Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Patricia, it is obvious Farrah has found a great home and many ways to play, and rest.

angelface555

Thanks Jack. The other earlier photos show how fast fall happened here than in other states.

Beverly

Angelface - Some of your trees are already bare! Farrah looks very trusting with her belly up. She has certainly found her safe place. She's a pretty cat.

Mary Ann

Patricia, the picture poses look familiar because Kendrick does the same things.  I am interested in the ring; what kind of food do you put in it?  I don't have any trouble with Kendrick eating, but it would be something more to interest him.  He came to me at 10 pm to let me know it was time for treat but I wanted to go online to see how the Atlantic coast people are faring.

Mary Ann

Amy, both you and your husband will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight and tomorrow.  I know that three hours will seem like eternity. You will be on tired lady. On the humorous side, your hubby gets to sleep all the way through it.  ::)
Go ahead you can hit me.

Patricia, beautiful animal (and pictures) I like that park.  It has a small town feel to me.

Thank you for all the comments! Beverly, those photos were taken from 9/23 through the end of the month. While it is sunny out now, all the deciduous trees are bare of their leaves. Only spruce and fir are still covered in needles.

Beverly, cats usually do not lay on their backs or with their stomachs exposed unless they feel safe. I knew the first time Farrah lay on her back, that she was going to be okay. I tried to get a photo of her sleeping on her back, however, just reaching for the camera, woke her. My favorite photo is the one with her paw over her eyes!

Shirley, feral cats in the wild, do not play once out of kittenhood due to the necessity of staying alerted for danger. Feral cats seldom learn to play and ones like yours, outdoors, probably would never feel that safe.

MaryAnn, Petsmart, an offshoot of Websmart, said cats have an active, curious streak and high prey instinct. They don't, according to the vet's article, do well with food left out or easy to reach. They said it tends to lead to obesity.

The report recommends having them work for their food for optimum health and to stay in shape. I feed Farrah a 3-ounce can of wet food with a bowl of 2 to 3 ounces of dry kibble alternating every other day.

She was not too enthused over the ring until I put her dry, never wet food, in it. It took her a day to figure out how to get to her food, but now she is an old pro. Maybe I'll start hiding the dry kibble in some of my wooden bowls and steins to keep her interested

Hal,  thank you. Fairbanks is small, just a little over 100,000 residents! The park, "Golden Heart Park," (its fountain is off for the season); is one of several set up along the Chena River's winding way through town. They have brick walkways and bicycle paths joining together the series of parks with old time style light poles, and the fences have Alaskan figures and scenes welded into them

It is a project spanning some years, and they are practically finished with it.

Shirley and Hal; were a couple of those comments meant for the Soda Shop?

Shirley

I'm not sure what I'm doing tonight, Patricia.... I discovered my post missing over in the Soda Shoppe & found it here.  Yes, I started it  on WordPat over there & not sure how I ended up in here but it's missing again.  I'm working on 2 computers so not helping my scrambled brain.

This computer has not worked for a couple weeks & I managed to do something right last night & the monitor (external) came back on.  I had tried everything my sons recommended but nothing worked.  No clue what kicked in last night but was hoping to get a photo in here that I had wanted to use for the "sky" challenge.  Hey.... I know it's over!  Just a test run to see if I can get something into the Gallery.  I do have a watch/clock but no sense taking the photo if I can't post.

So here's my challenge, to see if the photo actually went into my Gallery & will work.  I don't see an option to post from my gallery in here, only from my own computer.  What am I doing wrong?

I'm going to bed.... this is stressful~   :'(

By the way, I notice my clock in here is also wrong.  How can it be tomorrow when it's before midnight tonight?  Even my cell phone was wrong last week end.... it was CO time zone the week before & forgot to change back to central.  Sure messed up my week end since I set the RV microwave clock by the cell phone because my FitBit watch had died the day before.  Talk about being confused.   :crazy2:

Wanted to show you my sons new 8 week old Leonberger Pup.   Showing a photo of him, one with my Jessie to show his present size.   In a year he will grow to 175 pounds, a giant but gentle breed. My third photo is of their 2 year old.

MaryTX

Jack, it is darling :). Is their two year old one of the parents?  I have never heard of that breed before.

They are cute, but I will always be partial to Jessie and my Goldens :).

Good morning, waiting for friend to take me shoppin

Jack, that is such a cute puppy.

Patricia, thanks for posting all those pictures,  beautiful town.  Farrah, is sure a fun cat.  Taffy, has been getting into trouble all morning, and keeping in my way, running up and down the hall, jumping on the bed off again, then down the hall. She has been on the dresser, playing with my makeup, and jewerly.  She does not play with toys, and she is not a feral cat. My ride is here I have to go

Good morning, Jack. Beautiful large dogs! I remember you posting about the first one your son had. The puppy almost looks like a stuffed toy!

Morning Gloria, hope your day out shopping is nice. I guess Taffy is determined to be the exception to the rule.   She sounds as if her day has been full of energy!

Farrah is most active early in the morning. She has taken to waking me by purring and walking circles around and around my prone body in bed to have me get up and fetch her breakfast!

Beverly

Shirley - I see your photo of clouds/sky in the Gallery. You should be able to post from there. You can't post it directly into the reply box on Photos but if you copy the Gallery photo BB code and then paste it into the Reply box, it will work. Clear as mud?

Jack - Beautiful dogs and such a cute puppy!

Thanks for the comments.   The Pup is from another blood line, but he and the older one may someday start a new litter with the breeder.  The older one is a beautiful specimen but they want to be sure no health issues prior to breeding.  The Leonbergers are from Leonberger Germany and several years back were recognized by the AKC.

Here is a fun video of playing with the 3 pups, he is the only male, with the blue collar.

Jack, did a Google on Leonberger and found this.  Think I will pass.

You son must have lots of energy (and money).  They are a beautiful dog.

JACK WV....
...Lovely puppy but afraid too large for me when it becomes adult....My favourite still has to be your Jessie....

Mary Ann

Jack, nice puppies.  It is hard to imagine them at their present size that they will get to be so large.

Mary Ann

Jackie I have had 3 Goldens for over a period of almost 40 years.  Know Jessie will not be with me much longer, do not know if I would get another.   I love most breeds but think the next, if I would get one, would be another Golden.  Doubt I can handle another pup with their energy.

Hal the list was no problem with my sons big boy.  His wife did most of the training and he loves people, never jumps and the kids think he is a big bear.

Shirley

Jack, I've never seen a dog sit on it's tail like the middle photo..... that is SO cute!  How is the other little guy doing with 2 monsters in the house now?  Wonder if it knows how big this one will get.... to be extra nice to it while this size.   ;)  I remember when our German Shepherd was a pup & a Siamese across the street loved to hide behind a bush & run out to scratch the pup when I took her for a walk.  By the time Dede was 6 months old she realized she was bigger than the cat & every time she escaped the yard I would find her on that cat's porch, waiting for it to come out so she could chase it~!

Neat link, Hal, & I do think probably true of any big dog.  Early on ours decided that Cas was boss & I was her equal...... even when I blew my top, she weighed what I wanted her to do against what she wanted.  At the time we were each about 100 pounds & for sure she was the strongest.  At this stage I don't think a giant of a dog is what I need or can handle, but I do want one that is protective & will convince the bad guys they do not want to deal with her.  When I make up my mind I am ready to deal with cats rebelling & a young pup, I will just visit the Humane Society & look until I meet one I can't live without.

Patricia, Tiger is the one that loves to lay on my face if she stays in the bedroom at night.... but Lauren is the one that gets to watch all night at my face when in the RV.  Tom just gives into the girls.... he is my gentle giant... lover.  He rubs against everything & purrs so loud you can hear him across the room.

Hope all's well on the coast.  My niece stayed in their home so will call my brother after while to make sure they are safe.  I have 2 big pot roasts in the oven.... can smell them already, only been in about an hour & half so long way to go.  I will clean a pound of those little carrots to dump in both Dutch ovens but think I will skip the potatoes.... maybe one to eat tonight.  Will add the vinegar & sugar when I put carrots in (French gr-mother's way, vinegar to tenderize & sugar makes flavor pop out).  Already have a couple cloves of garlic & several bay leaves in.  I will cut some meat & gravy up & put in single serve ZipLoc tubs for travel.  Funny how good home cooking tastes after a couple days of eating out on the road.  Better go check on those smells~

Jack, I don't think you'd be happy without a Golden and know both of your kids would give it a good home if you ever needed them to.  On the other hand, you might leave your name with the Golden group to take in someone else's baby or old lady if they needed a good home for it.  Foster home sort of.

halkel

Jack I cant picture you without a golden.  They are such a gentle animal, although my daughters could be frustrating when it would get in her pool without permission and then go roll in the yard and get back into the pool.  And stand there with that goofy look on her face.

She also, along with her black lab, didn't like being left alone and would scatter the trash all over the house.  Both have now passed on.

Hal and Shirley you are right, my number one is a Golden but the Labs the same personality and love people.  I meet so many different breeds when walking, and all are great.   When Jessie was in Agility we would be out with 125 to 150 competing and most of them, regardless of breed, would make a  great pet.

Shirley you mentioned the little girl and know it is a   Miniature Dachshund.  They got her for my DILs mother but in a home now and they kept.   She is the boss and will probably be with the new one, but now must know he is a pup and plays a bit with him.   Here is a photo of the  little one with the big one, they play but when she gets out of line he will tap her with a paw almost as big as her and she settles down.

JeanneP

Jack. Those dogs are beautiful as puppies but fantastic once grown. I would like to have one if just stayed like a puppy. Like big dogs but don't know if I could handle walking with theirs.  Now do they have it well trained already?
I think you could handle a new puppy just the breed you have always had. Maybe your son could keep it and train for the first 6 weeks. After that would be fine.  Hope it will be awhile yet for Jessie to be with you.

Sorry to mention but my friend sent a E-M yesterday to say  that her Corki just had a stroke and passed.  it was 16. Lived next door to me for a long time and them across the street.  Great dog.  He did well to the end. Was walking 2 days prior. never had to much go wrong with him in 16 years.
Hope they get another one.
JeanneP

Marilyne

Jack - That's a wonderful picture of the two dogs! Consider entering it in a photo contest.  A Miniature Dachshund and a Leonberger, playing together, has to be an unusual sight!

jackwv

JeanneP  the corgi is another wonderful breed.  They have a genetic problem with their rear legs, neighbor just lost hers.

Marilyne that is my sons photo, and a great one.  The little one even will take food out of the big boys mouth.

Jack, I know this is probably something you or your son has heard before, but that photo of the larger two-year-old and the miniature dachshund, actually reminded me, especially with dachshund head shape; of the lion and the lamb.

My middle sister breeds dalmatians, my mother bred Pomeranians and my older sister for a time was breeding Lhasa apsos. My dad didn't breed various types of bird dogs, labs, retrievers and Weimaraners, and the like. However, as a side line, he trained a few champions for folks and worked with those deemed impossible. We also had a couple of miniature schnauzers and wirehaired or fox terriers as pets, extremely smart dogs too.

If you want an active, intelligent companion, go for poms, mini schnauzers or terriers, but they are active, intelligent and energetic, sometimes a bad combination. Terriers like huskies, need a purpose, a job daily to keep them out of trouble. If you want a good midrange dog, may I suggest looking into basset hounds? Beagles tend to get into trouble, chase other dogs, birds  and animals and have a very doggy odor. pugs and bulldogs are cute, funny and enjoy being babied. Yet they have a very short lifespan.
