Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's bagels to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “December” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Birthday

A fellow who just reached his 120th birthday was giving a press conference to the assembled media.
"Excuse me, sir," one of the reporters said, "but how did you come to live to be 120?
"It's actually quite simple," the old feller replied. "I just never argue."
"That's impossible," the reporter responded. "There must be something else, like diet, or meditation, or something. Just not arguing won't keep you alive for 120 years!"
The old fellow stared hard at the reporter for several seconds.
"Hmmm," he finally shrugged, "maybe you're right."

Food For Thought

Christ’s Body

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Mark 14:12-26

Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
Mark 14:22
As a little girl, Olesya often observed holy communion at her grandmother’s church. As a young adult, though, she drifted away from the religious life of her grandmother. But somehow she was still interested in what communion was all about. She called our radio talk-show to find out more about the sacrament. During the conversation I had a chance not only to ¬respond to her questions but also share the gospel of Jesus with her.
The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is a time for thanksgiving. We gather around the Lord’s table to be vividly reminded of what Jesus did on our behalf.
During his last supper with his disciples Jesus used vivid imagesâ€"bread and wine. Bread is still a popular food item in Middle Eastern cuisineâ€"and around the world. After giving thanks to God, Jesus broke the bread. It’s a profoundly symbolic act pointing to his upcoming death on the cross. Then he gave the pieces of bread to his disciples: “Take it; this is my body.” The bread is a symbol of his body, broken for us.
This is the gospel story in a nutshell. When we participate in the Lord’s Supper, we are still offered the bread that points us to Jesus’ body. We are encouraged to turn to him and partake in his sacrifice for us with ¬humility and thanksgiving.
Father, thank you for your Son’s body that was ¬broken for us. Remind us daily of what Jesus did for us on the cross. In his name we pray. Amen.

Amy

Good morning everyone.

I sure didn't want to get up this early as it makes for a long day. A day of rest here, I did start the spare ribs last night so a slow cooking to finish them off today. I remember my Mom would stuff spare ribs and roll them up into bundles, goodness they were delicious!

Phyllis , love the graphic and your right, just top it off with a cold glass of milk

Gloria, we would have fun in the choco shop, lots to choose from then go next door for a delicious lunch.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  Since you got up so early, maybe you can get a nap later today.  Those spare ribs sound so good.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and running, too.  Today is my day to read the Old Testament lesson at church and it's also my day to take soup for the Soup Sale.  I've read over the reading a couple times and the soup is all packed up.

This afternoon, I'm going back up to the Country Market to get another wreath.  This time it's a large one to hang on the end of my house that faces the driveway and the road.  My neighbor across the street will help me hang it in a way that I don't have to drive any nails in the siding.  I've always wanted to do this but could never figure out how.  I'm also going to hang my Christmas flags today.

As for the candy making, the only thing I have to do is spread a few more peanut butter saltines and the Gluten free ones with natural pB for my grandniece.

I better get moving if I'm going to be ready to leave for church in time.  Have a good day Everyfriend!

Amy, it sure would be easier to just visit the chocolate factory instead of doing all this extra work!

JoanFL

Good morning, Janie.  You have a pretty busy day ahead.  Visiting the chocolate factory is less work, but those chocolates don't have "made with love" in them.  Your house is going to look so pretty with all those wreaths and flags.

That's Amazing!

When Mary was pregnant, her five year old, Billy, was utterly amazed and a little bit disbelieving that his sister was growing in his mom's tummy.

So one day when the baby was especially active, she asked Billy to place his tiny hands on her tummy to feel the baby kick.

But when he did, the baby was suddenly still.

"Oh, Billy, she must have decided to take a nap," shrugged his mother.

"A nap"? Billy marveled. "You mean there's a bed in there too?”
c u later have a good day

Hi everyone.  It is going to be a very chilly and rainy day here in South Carolina.  It is not suppose to get above 50 degrees and that is fairly early this morning and then into the 40's the rest of the day.  Once again I plan on going to Sunday School but will leave early to come home and get Pat so she can attend church with me.  We will have to get something to eat before we come home and then just have a quiet rest of the day.

There were many cars on our street yesterday as people came to see our neighbor's home on the Tour of Homes.  A couple of the ladies in my Sunday School class were helping with it.  It obviously was a big success.  Downtown yesterday afternoon they had their annual Christmas parade.  I was glad I was at home.

Joan, unless our neighbor invites us to come over and see her house we won't be seeing it.  We were not going to pay $20 each for a ticket to view just one house and we just aren't up to taking the tour.  The chair that Pat got is more like an office chair that adjust upward and we hope it will be high enough for her to work at the cabinets and stove.  I didn't get it put together yesterday.

Jackie, glad you had such a nice meal and good time.

Callie, I have participated in the type of Christmas exchange you describe but had never heard it called by that name.  It can be a lot of fun until you get something you would like to keep and someone takes it from you on their turn.  You were fortunate to get such quick medical help.

deAngel, sorry to read that your PT doesn't seem to be helping.  When I started working for the Federal Government in 1962, right after I graduated from college, it was a salaried job and I just calculated that based on the 2040 hours of work in a year I was making $2.80 per hour. Prior to that I had worked on the farm but received no set pay although was provided everything I needed, including a little spending money when I went to college.

Patricia, what a frightening experience with the flood waters.  Like Hal I have wanted my house at the top of the hill.  Of course, when I lived in Moore, Oklahoma it was flat land all around.

Joan and Phyllis, a perfect graphic for this time of year and the type of balanced diet I can relate to.

Lloyd, that is a cute story.

Amy, glad to see you didn't miss the opportunity to get some chocolate at the chocolate factory.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Cute story.

Good morning, Phyllis.

Larry--Good morning.  I don't blame you for not paying to see your neighbor's house.  I sure hope that chair works for Pat in the kitchen.

Good Morning Everyone!
Still plenty chilly and rainy.  Guess it will be that way all day.  Suppose to clear up tomorrow.

Got to finish getting ready for church.  Wife has greeting this morning so we have to be there early.

Oh, Larry, I am not quite on top of the hill about five houses down about half way down the hill.

JoanFL

Good morning, halkel.  Sure wish some of that rain would come this way.

Gloria

Good morning everyone,
I was a sleepy head this morning. Cloudy and cold here. I woke early and when I went to get out of bed it was cold so got back under the covers and went back to sleep. I did get up and turn the thermostat up before getting back there though.

HAL  what a wonderful way for all the family to see your granddaughter get married. Would have cost a fortune for everyone to go over to France.

LARRY  the one thing I do not like is that all my gmail comes in on the iPhone and I just keep deleting them. Re they really gone ot taking up space on the phone?

JACKIE  love your new avatar. Glad you had a good meal at that MS Christmas party.

MARY ANN  like you, I tell my family not to buy me anything for Christmas of my birthday. I do not need anything, no more things. A nice visit is all I want at any time of the year.

GLORIA de  my back got worse after I had PT. The shots in my back did nothing either. Will be seeing a pain doctor next month.

AMY  heading for the hidey hole to see if there are any of those cherries left.

JANE  raspberry must taste great, love that flavor.

JUNE  sorry your leg is still painful.

PHYLLIS  love your graphic for this week. Sounds like a great diet to me.

JOAN  a bagel will be great this morning. Love that man's last reply in Chuckles. Christ's Body, I had never read of heard it described so simply before. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  if they had samples at the chocolate factory who would need lunch?

LLOYD  that was cute.

LARRY  around here at Christmas parties they have a Yankee Swap. Everyone brings a gift and they go into a pile. Everyone gets a number and when theirs is call they go and get something from that pile. Open it and then the next one does the same thing. The second one has the choice of keeping it or swapping with the first one. It is funny how one gift can keep changing hands.

Dot and I have already done our usual Sunday morning - church then OTB.  We had Tuna Melt and Coconut Cream Pie this morning - we split them.  One week I buy and the next week Dot buys so one person doesn't have the burden every week.

Our temp is at 37 degrees now at 11:30 and I doubt it will get higher than 40 today.

I told my family I would prefer "services" for Christmas.  There is so much that I cannot do - or reach.  Tom is a great delegator but also there is much he can't do because of a bad back.  The bad part is that no one lives near so it is inconvenient for all.  If Annie needs money, she will come to clean - and does a good job, but there is no set day she comes.  We do manage, however, and I'm not complaining.  I'm still able to live in my own home and that's worth a lot to me.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Gloria--It's good you have those geemogotchees.:)  I did quite a bit of online Christmas shopping this morning.  One more go around, and I think I will be done.

Mary Ann--It's great you and Dot get together for a meal and to catch up.  Services are a wonderful gift, IMO, when we get to the point there are things we just cannot do.

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Interesting how many different names there are for the same game with gifts.   Those posts reminded me of one summer when my husband was in summer school and we lived in a student apartment building with other families from different parts of the country who were there for the same reason.
We had several conversations about this sort of thing.   Some prepared dinner and others fixed supper.  Some ate hamburgers on rolls and others on buns - and vice versa for the hot bread served with a meal.   I know there were other examples but I can't think of them.

I always enjoy reading the British words Jackie uses for various items.

Hope to finish the decorating this afternoon.  I'm really keeping it simple this year.  I've also done more on-line shopping than usual.  Still need to order and print out some gift cards/certificates.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable day.

Mary Ann

Callie, I grew up with a davenport in our living room.  Now everyone calls it a couch.  Someone told me that davenport was a Midwest term.  I often wonder when I use that term if others in other parts of the country know what I mean.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Mary Ann,  I would but the alternate to "couch" I hear most is "sofa".

JoanFL

Callie--When we moved from NY to Arkansas we found they used many different terms for things we referred to as something else.  My decorating is going to be VERY simple this year.

Mary Ann--Some folks I know use those three terms--davenport, couch and sofa.  One family calls that piece of furniture a divan.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

JaneS

When I was growing up we had a davenport in the living room but my best friend had a sofa and my boyfriend liked to entertain on the couch.  Another friend had the same kind of thing in her living room but it had an Italian name which I've forgotten.  My mother's good friend always asked if we'd like to sit on the divan.  What an eclectic bunch we were.

Also, we cooked on a gas stove and my grandmother had a wood burner but my friend's mother always cooked on the Range.  I thought that's where the cowboys were.

At home we slept in beds but at Girl Scout camp we slept in cots and they looked pretty much the same to me.  We always had supper in the evening but my friends sometimes invited me to stay for dinner.  Language is so much fun!

Checking in from the studio.  I'm back in the Santa saddle again: A nine-hour shift at London's biggest mall. I got through it, although I was exhausted at the end, but it was nice to be back.

angelface555

At girl scout camp, we slept in bunks and cots were what you saved for guests.  :)

I've always loved hearing about differences between folks, and I've always loved history and how we as people are shaped by their environment.

My shopping was completed back in October when I sent out Christmas cash and one engagement gift. The youngest in our family is twenty-one and thousands of miles away, so cash is always welcomed. I don't decorate; there are trees, bulbs, and swags enough all over the building.  I did bake several types of cookies and some sweet potato fudge to go out with the cookie platters the crafts club always makes for volunteers, police, fire and ambulance.

As I was on the other side of holiday sales for so long, I seriously enjoy not having to be in those malls during the holiday season. Unfortunately for those in retail, the season begins the beginning of August and finishes the month of January with sales and inventory.

Farrah had a moment this morning. She tossed her felt mouse all about and growled impressively while doing it and she sat beside the closet where her treats are and tried to look very somber and downtrodden, crying "Win," until she saw I wasn't that impressed. So she decided a nap was in order instead.

JoanFL

Janie--I agree with you.  Language is fun.  I wish I could speak more than one language.

Radioman--Glad you got another Santa "gig", but nine hours is a long time.

Angelface--Good for you having your shopping done, nor do I do the extensive baking I used to do at Christmas time.  Farrah is trying to outsmart you.:)

Joan you are right; nine hours is a long time, but I was too busy to notice it until I was done. Then it hit me.

Well, I have a wreath on the front door and one on the back door (where everyone comes in) and now I have a nice BIG one on the end of the house toward my driveway.  My son came over and hung it and then he took all the bags of leaves away with him.  I hung the Christmas flags on the porch.  I now have "FROSTY THE SNOWMAN", O CHRISTMAS TREE" and "JOY TO THE WORLD" decorating the outside of my house.  I don't look like Scrooge any more.  Maybe sometime this week, I'll get the candles in the windows.  I can't do any inside decorating until I finish the chocolate because it takes up too much space.

And I better get back to it or I'll never get it finished.

Good late afternoon, quite cool again to day, with the wind. Maybe light snow tomorrow. I have been so tired this weekend, I guess being out every day last week caught up with me. Tomorrow and other appointment.  Wed. Lassies Christmas party and of course Homemakers on Friday. the following Friday is out HM Christmas party.  Somewhere in there before Christmas I have another RH Christmas party. Then comes Jan. and nothing going on.

Phyllis thanks for graphic.

Joan, I enjoyed good reading, thanks again.

Lloyd, funny story.

Larry, your neighbor should have Open House for the neighbors. Even the years Cyriel passed, we had open house Christmas week for the neighbors.

Gloria, I also got up and put the heat on and went back to bed. I had been awake most of the night with restless leg.

MaryAnn, when I was asked what I wanted, I said dominos, I do not know what happen to my set.  We are going to be taught how to play Mex. train, at Homemakers in Jan. I also want to stay in my house as long as I can. Some things I cannot do, but I can takecare of myself, wash cloths, and pick up around the house. cook light meals. Go out once in a while, to lunch. As I have wrote before I depend on my beautiful neighbors.  I spent 3 weeks in rehab, and that was enough, they got me up at 7 put me in a wheel chair, had to call if I needed to go to the bathroom, got put to bed at 9. Given a shower twice a week. If I had stayed another week I would have been a cripple. I pray I never have to go back there. The one thing that saved my  mind, I had my lap top, and knitting.

I don't know Joan...
I think that we here in the USA,
speak many different languages,

(But we all call it "English")

And not only do we "speak" it differently,
but for sure,  we "hear" it differently,
and from that the   "conclusions
we form",  are as different, as night
