The mama cat missed her own babies, evidently, and knew what these kitties needed - and responded.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

That picture is adorable.  I hope they all do really well, and will be healthy and ready for adoption, when they're old enough.

angelface555

Just look at that expression on mama cat's face, don't mess with her babies!  :)

We once had a barn cat who had kittens in Kentucky. There was a male bluetick hound who kept swiping the kittens and curling up with them. After about a week of the mother cat and that old hound hauling the kittens back and forth, the mama gave up and moved everyone to the hound's tree where they all stayed.

Meet Jack the rescue cat and Tommy the baby squirrel who was rescued in the yard by the owners of the home. After being saved from a certain fate, Jack and Tommy have become the very best of friends.

:snoopy: I'm a beagle lover!  Current pal is a male 8-yr old from a local shelter some three years ago.  He's a mama's boy, for sure.  Follows me around from room to room.  He will share the recliner when I want to stretch out!  The shelter director said he was a 'yapper'.  So true.  But only when he decides it's time to eat.  (I think he wears a hidden wristwatch!)  He didn't seem to notice when his housemate, Ouisie, another beagle, had to be given release from her suffering a couple of years ago.  Time for me to get Bo a girl friend?  :snoopy:

angelface555

MaryAnn, those kittens were so lucky to find a savior! What a great story and photos!

Bubble, that made me laugh seeing Jack accept and play with that little zooming Tommy! Another wonderful rescue story, especially with how many folks feel about squirrels!

Pooh1, Bo sounds like he's enjoying his life and doesn't want to lose sight of you, (and dinner!);   ;)  Do you think he needs a new pal? My neighbors have a beagle, Pete, who believes he's the one in charge. He's a bit of a drill sergeant!

Marilyne

Hi Pooch - Welcome to the Pets folder!
Great that you rescued Bo, from the shelter, and that he's turned out to be a good dog for you.
My daughter has wanted to get a beagle for years, but the apartment she lives in does not allow dogs.  As soon as she moves, she will be searching for the perfect companion!
Please return often, and tell us more about yourself, and whether you've decided to get Bo, a girlfriend?

Mary Ann - I love the story of the rescued kittens in Florida.  I hope they all find a perfect home!

Bubble - The video of Jack the cat, and Tommy, the squirrel is such fun to watch.  Stories like that are truly remarkable!

angelface555

FDJ went to the Lynwood Pet Smart, near Seattle where one of his fosters moms had been returned. Gamora, at about a year, had five kittens and everyone had been adopted, but she was returned for being too aggressively playful for the two older cats in the home.

I'm hoping she will soon be adopted but the other two cat, brothers, I found interesting. They were returned as more work than the adopter expected. They were born without eyelids and unable to blink, necessitating keeping all hair trimmed from around their eyes and twice daily eyedrops.

FDJ was going to show the red-haired Fabio bunny at the end, but he had been adopted. That was a type of rabbit with very long hair.

I found a set of photos of the Fabio Bunny! There are so many animals here and around the world that need our help, security, and love. Altho I don't know about a mongoose!

[attachimg=1]

Mary Ann

I've spent quite a bit of time with animals just from the first link.  In that one, Jack looks like Kendrick; they'd be a good match.  I didn't look at all of the videos, but maybe three or four.  I saw the dog living in a trash pile, I saw the shy cat in the mountain and I ended up with Vlad the injured dog found along the roadside in Romania.  I could have watched all of the videos, but I didn't have time.

I can see why they named the bunny Fabio.

:smitten: Marilyn, I go way back to Chatback, then SeniorNet, and now this format.  I've not posted here for several years but shall return to this spot.  I'm a young (?) 87 and can't live without a dog or two!  Have had dogs and cats all my life.  Never a problem.  Animals forgive us our trespasses and we forgive them theirs.

Pooch - I'm glad you're back with us in S&F, and hope that you continue to post here in Pets, and in other folders as well.  I also remember the early days of the internet, and the popularity of the many different chatrooms.  Those were exciting times, when we realized we could "talk" in real time, to people on the opposite coast or in another country!  I was also an early member of Senior Net, and a couple of other message boards that no longer exist.

Mary Ann - Yes, Fabio! ha ha  That long golden hair!

Marilyne

Patricia, The kittens are very active right now.  They sure do like that yellow fluffy thing, and have been taking turns running through it, or over the top.  I notice that Niffler, the dark tabby, seems to be stronger, faster and bigger  than the two others?  He’s actually running from one side of the kennel to the other.

I'm in love with Fabio!  I've never seen a rabbit that looks like him.  Is he what is called a lop eared bunny?  I always look at the rabbits when I go to Petco, but they only have the standard albino bunnies.  For now, I have to be content with the little wild cottontail, who lives in the junipers in my front yard.  I haven't seen him for over a week now, so I'm hoping that he is okay, and has maybe just moved on?

Marilyne, while there are commercial rabbits in the area, the one resident wild rabbit all over everywhere here is the snowshoe hair which is similar to a jackrabbit.  https://www.google.com/search?q=snowshoe+hares&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1

I Googled long haired rabbits and the photos most resembling Fabio are called Lionshead rabbits. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1&ei=B9vEW4O0Crur0PEP8u22oAs&q=lionshead+rabbits&oq=lionshead+rabbits&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i10l10.47938.55303..56143...0.0..0.287.3341.0j10j7......0....1..gws-wiz.......0j0i71j35i39j0i67j0i131j0i20i264j0i131i20i264j0i131i10.wESuCoDihrM

Between five to six weeks old is when kittens began to control their movements and start climbing and zooming. It is also the time when wild mamas begin bringing their prey to kittens and allowing the feral kittens to play with their food before learning to kill it. This is why Seraphina has instinctively been bringing them toys as now they are old enough to attempt that type of play. Everything is a learning experience for kittens, wild or not.

It looks as if Seraphina wanted to keep that last toy to herself.  I was trying to figure out what it was.  To me, it looked like fabric fastened at the center.  I wonder what Kendrick would think of something like that.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Its called a kicker and usually, it has a pocket for catnip but FDJ prefers to let the adopters introduce the cat or kittens to catnip. The amount of toys in the kennel is mama's attempts to teach them about prey, just as kitten and adult "zoomies" are the result of new or built up prey instinct.

An interesting fact about feline litters is that each act produces one kitten and the tabby, along with his deceased brother were probably the first two acts, (size and type); whereas the smaller Siamese twins were two acts by a second different father.

The yellow toy is supposed to be a chicken.

what a sterling idea! I bet the cats never tire of going up and down there. And it is entertaining for the viewers too :)

MarsGal

YouTube servers were down for a little while according to the news this morning. They are back up now.

I watch Cole and Marmalade whenever I see a new one pop up, but they are not as frequent as before. Chris also runs the Cat Man Chris channel on YouTube which focuses mostly on his cat rescues. He spent some time last year with a big cat rescue group in Africa. Here is one of his most recent posts showing them rescuing over 60 cats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npkIgHVSRGg

angelface555

I think Cole and Marmalade along with Simon's Cat,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0ffwDYo00Q were my first Youtube subscriptions. Chris recently adopted two young female sisters to go with his two boys.

Marilyne

Patricia, I love that name, Cat-man-do! ;D  That cartoon by Simon is cute.  I remember pulling the covers over my head and face, in hopes that Winnie, or any other cats we had over the years, would just go away!  Instead, it presents a challenge for them.  They become even more determined to find you and get you out of that bed!

I just looked at the Critter Room, and the three little kittens are tumbling all over each other, having a great time.  Mama is no where to be seen at the moment.

FFDJ has put up an enclosure just outside the kennel and plans for a breakout between 5-6 PM his time, and I believe yours,  Marilyne. He will set up a 30-minute timer beforehand. If you miss the event, Brookivy will have it on her channel
