I have had MS Word/Spreadsheet on computers for some time.  In fact, I have the disk.  It is on this computer and I have had trouble with the computer - cursor jumps all over, font goes big and small.  I have W-7 on this computer.  Two others started out as W-7, but I downloaded W-10 on those.  I think I want to remove MS Word/Spreadsheet from the computers but I have files on them and I'm wondering if I will lose the files when/if I remove (uninstall) the program.  Does anyone have any experience - or advice?

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, I would put those files and spreadsheets on a removable disk.

jackwv

Patricia right and MaryAnn you might also copy them to a separate file on the computer.

I have an old flash drive, giving to niece with some info she wanted.   Told her to keep it.   I just purchased a SanDisk Cruzer Glide for $20   It holds 128 GB, more than I need for every photo, video and document on my computer.   I still have a desktop with a disk player but believe the time has come to go just with Flash Drive.   Next computer will probably not even have the disk player.

RAMMEL

" I just purchased a SanDisk Cruzer Glide for $20   It holds 128 GB....".

That's a good deal. Where did you get it.

Rick   Best Buy and it is 2.0 and 3.0 compatible.   Do not know the speed of my old Gateway, but it copied 3.32 gb of old family video pretty fast.

CallieOK

I'm copy/pasting this from my post in the Windows 10 folder (with some editing  :) ) - hoping someone will have some information or suggestions.

An icon for Windows 10 installation has been on my toolbar for a long time.  This week, I noticed a yellow exclamation point on the icon.  I thought it was a “warning” of the upcoming deadline but when I clicked on it, a screen popped up saying Windows 10 is not compatible with this computer.

Another area says:

“ NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
The display manufacturer hasn’t made your display compatible with Windows 10.  Check with the manufacturer for support”.
( NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 is on a sticker on the front of my computer.  I don't know what this means.)

I bought this computer in June, 2010.

It invites me to View the Report, which I have not done â€" and to “check out new PCs”, which I did not do.   I can also click  “No thanks, maybe later”.  I have not done this, either.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

jackwv

Callie I saw your earlier post and did some looking but way over my head.  It is probably the drivers on your older computer, but would not recommend a source  for the download, many are scams.  Are you able to click away the warning and still use your computer.  Hope someone can come up with a decent solution.

CallieOK

Jack,  thank you.  Oh, yes, my computer is perfectly usable with Windows 7  and I assume Windows 10 will not load unless I okay it.
I had never heard of the program not being compatible with some computers.

I just right-clicked the icon and see various choices for learning about Windows 10.  One of them is "Learn more about new Windows PCs".   Beginning to sound like an ad!!

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430  - is your computer's video board and it has "DRIVERS" that make it work.  The usual answer here is to get updated drivers so that your puter will work with Win-10. Using a search I see that others are having the same problem (  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/NVIDIA-GeForce-6150SE-nForce-430-is-incompatible-with/td-p/5169927  ).

One poster there states there is a "workaround" for the problem but IMHO these are often not reliable - used when there is no other choice or if you are a gambler.  For me, more reading at that site is necessary. If I find more I'll post it.

Thanks, Rammel.    I'll be interested in knowing what you find - if anything.  However, Plan A is to stick with what I have.

I really appreciate all the help - and so will my son, who works with the computer programs at Hertz but hadn't run into this issue.  I'll share your comments with him.

RAMMEL

Callie,

I would stick with "Plan A"

I never liked making an old dog run harder or faster than it was designed for.  Even if some puters can be upgraded to W-10 they may not be able to "keep up the pace". I'm keeping my Win-7 laptop as Win-7. When the Win-10 dust settles I will get a new puter with Win-10 as the native software.

Now I know few people that got the message on their computers saying that W10 was there to download. It never would do it.  I even tried mine one time and left it over night running and still never came up. Yet they still sent me the message almost daily.  I found a way to finely say not interested in using it and then i got one saying could no longer download. However there is still that little window on the right of my task bar and if clik on it says Get windows 10 but a little yellow triangle on it

Didnt even tell me Bye Bye.
JeanneP

jackwv

Rick and Callie, yep plan A.    I had read the ivanrf link and did not like all the downloads they pushed.   Tried to determine if they were safe.   They had their own post claiming so but spotted one that said there were complaints from folks that used.   I try to download from the mfg, not always possible.   Callie if your machine is working, fine, but do believe when and if you buy a windows 10 you will be pleased.

Things changing so fast, now many feel better with a laptop, I always liked the desktop and full keyboard.   Now many laptops do not have disc players, you can buy an external player, but believe like floppy's and vcr's they are going out of style.  Like the flash drive and may not use the few dvds I have.

CallieOK

Rammel and Jack,   I agree completely.  "If it ain't broke - don't fix it!"

Jeanne, the yellow triangle is what I've been talking about seeing.

I just don't know what I have hit on my keyboard but been trying for 30 minutes to get my screen back to right size.  Just will not centre. So can't read about 3 inches over on the right side.
I was in my E-M program and hit something also making the print about the side of a pin hole. Only does that in the E-M.
This this hot weather is getting to me.  Can't get anything right today. Should maybe just take a nap.    I have played around with the arrows on the sides. Getting no place with them.
JeanneP

jane

Have you tried turning it off and restarting it after a few minutes?  Sometimes that seems to get everything back to where it should be for me.

jane

jackwv

Jane is right, that may solve it.   If necessary go to settings and screen resolution.   The default for mine is 1920X1080

JeanneP

Yes. It has been off all night. Just turned it back on to look at E-M but still the same. Just to small to read. So crazy. I was working in it and sending a e mail out when my fist must have hit something on the bottom of the keyboard.. Not a problem any other place.
Will see what happens if I open such as the Wordpad.
JeanneP

JeanneP

The Fonts seem to be messed up in there also.
JeanneP

jane

Can you do a restore on that computer, Jeanne?

Mary Ann

Jeanne, have you tried to put your finger on the Control key, then the + key?  My computer sometimes makes the font go either larger or smaller, one after the other, (and it just did it), so I do Control +, both at the same time.

Jeanne, quote from Jack, have you checked your screen resolution?

angelface555

JeanneP

Now I found something that says Display. My screen Resolution shows at 1600x 900 Must have been there all the time.
Mary Ann. Yes I played with the Ctrl and the + and -. Works on other areas but not on  my E-M .program
Sure wish I could figure out what I hit with my wrist.

JeanneP

O.K. I played and found a zoom button. It came up a little larger and then worked with the + and - . so just going to leave it alone. Got my Icons back to where I want them also. Have to watch from leaning down on my keys.

Thanks all
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP try going back to settings and screen resolution, try the 1920X1080   If you change you have to click to have them change.

Be aware, using a wrong screen resolution can cause circles to appear un-round ( oval ).

JeanneP

I would try a RESTORE to an earlier date first. If no good, ---

What OS - Win7, 10, xp?
What is your mail program that is with small print?
What other programs are small, if any
Does your Desktop look normal (as it did in the past)?

Jack. Maybe what you use would be to high for this 17 inch screen. Its flat screen but inside a Armoire. Space only for this 17.

Off the message, but saw a report on Pittsburgh TV about a town with no cell phones or wi fi, and very little on the radio.   We visited there years ago to see the huge dish the government was using in a so called "quiet zone"   Here is a utube story that is better than the tv story.  Now I constantly use my wifi, computer, and phone but think I would appreciate the way things are now in this small town.  Now it is 2 hours south of me in the mountains.  Worth a look.
