I haven't used the Word Pad on my Windows 7 lately. I need it now.
is there a way that I can change the tool Bar at the top Making it Lighter. Right now it is black so that I can't read it well. This is the line that I need to see what open . Up above the Home . So can get to the Quick Access tool bar. I can't see it good.  Need to see the up and down arrows better.
That area seems to be only dark when in Word Pad.

That line is dark blue , with white lettering. I opened a new Word Pad and it said, "New Word Pad". That's all that is on that line - except, to the left is a small icon that allows closing, maximizing, minimizing.
I don't think you can readily change the color of that bar, but you should see printing on it.

Jeanne, if you can see the two curved 'undo' and 'redo' arrows pointing to left and right, click a little bit past the right-pointing arrow and that should bring up the Customize Quick Access Toolbar, which I think is probably what you are needing. I agree, it does not show up at all well on that dark blue background. You may need to click around a bit to find it.

jackwv

Don posted a photo in the photo discussion that shows the Wordpad screen.  This is what I also see when I open it on windows 10.  Wonder if the solution for you Jeanne is to move over to the right and you will see the question mark.  Just to the left of the question mark is an arrow.  If the arrow is pointing down click it and it should open all you need for using Wordpad.   I use if for all my correspondence.  If you click the arrow and it is then showing pointing up leave it that way and that should be how Wordpad opens.

When you open a NEW Wordpad, Right click to the right of VIEW (in a blank spot). Remove the check in the Minimize Ribbon box if it is checked. ALSO remove the check in "Show Quick Access Toolbar below the Ribbon".

Does this Help? ?  ?

I think I have all checked O.K.  Maybe it shows dark up there because the photo on my desktop is really dark up high. It shows a little when I have the wordpad wondow open.  Will play a little more with it later.  Thanks

Jeanne, when the top of the page is "transparent" then it takes the coloring from the desktop image.  That is why I always have my rotating images in subdued hues.  The icons on them also show better.

Question:  How do I get the msgs. from all on the right side of the pagte to perhaps the middle?  Or spread out a bit?

Some good tips above on the WordPad working.  Going to start using in more.  I don't really have use for the full MS Word anymore.

Looks like we have lost the place to just post the problems with E-Mails.

Well now I have a strange one that I can't remove. I use Gmail on a W7 desktop
When I go to COMPOST  I have no room to write the message.

It shows the TO
SUBJECT.

Then not enough space between an area bar saying

Sans Serif  tT  B  I  U A.   =========

Then the Bar under it with the SEND

I have tried different things but get get rid of it.

I have a question about the wordPad:

How does one change the default font?  I hate calibri 11!
Verdana 12 is much easier on my old eyes,

Bubble, no help here, as usual.   I was able to change once in a mail program, but not on the present.   On word pad, believe I would just set it to Verdana 12 prior to typing.  Now this is Verdana 12

You should have the screen that permits you to change font and size and Calibri is not bad if increased.

skeeter

Bubble:   here's what I found.  Not sure it's what you're looking for.  I haven't tried it.

Bubble, I wonder if you have it set on View at the top of the page, instead of having it on Home? If I open Wordpad and have it on Home it gives me all of the usual fonts and font sizes to choose from. Either choose what I want before I start typing or else highlight what I have typed and then change the font and size to what I want. If I have it on the View page I don't get those options.

Jakkims, yes I can change the font but I have to do it every time, and I would prefer to have the default I want and need, to stay there always.

Kelly

Hi Rammel
Is wordpad a basic piece of software on Windows 10, as I am sure it was on Windows Vista and Windows 8.

I prefer Windows Office as you have Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Kelly

RAMMEL

So far I have not seen a live Win-10 computer. Hopefully somewhere in the near future. I've got too much going on to get out and buy one. also still seeing adds stating "Comes with Win-7 but can be upgraded". I want a native win-10.

Most likely Word Pad does come with Win-10 but some light research indicates that it is not a readily available process to change the default font. This is true of Win-7 also.  But, I'm sure there is a way to do it. Logic says that if MS can designate a font, someone else can change it. Somewhere it has to be designated. Trouble might be that it is a Registry thing.

Rick I have windows 10 and use Wordpad.  I sure will not mess with the Registry.

Bubble no solution from me but can cut your work in half.   Calibri is not bad if you just enlarge it to say 14.   We do not have Calibri as a Font Face in posting (it may be the default),  But simply changing size will do this.  Know it is a lot of work :) but when you open Wordpad, save half your time, do not change fonts, just boot up the size :)

This is the regular font size for posting.

This is the font size set at 14

jackwv

Time to turn the computer off, traveling around the internet has my head spinning, but was intrigued with Calibri and found this.

Calibri Font was first introduced in Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007. This font has been so popular that it replaced the default “Time New Roman” default font on Microsoft Word and other office applications. It continued to be the default typeface in Microsoft Office 2010 applications.
Calibri was originally design by a guy from the Netherlands called Lucas de Groot, exclusively for Microsoft ClearType rendering technology. This unique font features subtly rounded stem and corners that can be visible at larger sizes.

Thanks Jack. I might do that if I don't follow with Skeeter's tip. Apparently saving a page in verdana will keep the font for further  documents. It just needs to keep that 'template' on the desktop and use/click it as a reminder for the format.

Kelly

Hi Jack
I prefer Times New Roman

Kelly I just use what they provide, usually the default.   I read all my mail regardless of the fonts and never a complaint from those that receive mine.  Just good we have a choice.  Strange with fonts, recall when I was constructing contracts for the bank where I worked, having to use Helvetica type.    Understand one of our politicians mentioned liking it and the state passed a law requiring it, till there was a backlash and the law changed.  Without the change every business in the state would have had to change their documents.

angelface555

When using a font for email or an office program, be advised that the person receiving that email or document will only see HIS default font unless he also has your font downloaded and also that he uses it. The majority of emails and documents will use the recipient's default if the person has chosen one no matter how yours is sent.

Tomereader1

And I don't even see Helvetica as a choice on my Write screen where I can choose a font.
