Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Patricia thanks did not know that.

Tomereader  It may still be around but not in the long list available on Wordpad.  You can Google it for a look at the type, but do not know if even used now.

Kelly

Hi jack
I learned about computer software and its uses, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher at College in my mid fifties.  And we were advised to use Tahoma and Times New Roman.

I think that people or companies should choose their owns fonts and not have interventions from administrators.

As of this morning I have lost the possibility of using Icons, bold, colors, images. links, etc in S@F replies.

Anyone knows how to return to normal formatting?

maryz

Bubble, that's the case with me when I post on S&F on W-10 Edge.  When I use IE (which I still have on my computer), I can use the icons.  Usually I use Edge, so I forget about it.  You might see if they work using another OS (or is browser the correct term?).

so_P_bubble

I don't use Edge, but always have used Firefox...

so_P_bubble

Mary, I tried with Chrome, but even if the icons now show, they are not active!  Frustrating.

MaryTX

Bubble, I use Firefox exclusively and I still have them  ;D :( :o

When something like that happens, I just reboot the computer and the glitch goes away.  Might not be the proper way to take care of it, but it usually works for me :).

That is an idea!  I'll try it.

so_P_bubble

I tried rebooting but that did not help either.  Then I used CCleaner and tried again.
Now, having deleted history, it is back to normal!  I hope it stays putt (sp?)
Thanks Mary for the suggestion

Lot's of reports this morning about removing Quick Time due to security risks.   Giving the link to just one.  I removed it from my Windows 10 and suggest you might do for other operating systems.

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2016/04/how_to_uninstall_quick_time_fo.html

Tomereader1

QuickTime is not listed in any of my Windows Programs.  Thank goodness.

jackwv

Tomereader1 Your post got me to wondering about not having the Quicktime Player.   I have cameras that would take video in the Mov  format and needed Quicktime to open.  I then learned how to convert video to MP4.  I just took a short video with my iPhone and while it is the Mov format it opened in Windows 10 and that is after I removed the Quicktime player.

Tomereader1

Well, I am still a dinosaur...using Win7!   LOL  That may explain some of it!

wjoan

I too am still using Win7 and so is my son.  Neither of us are ready to tackle Win10 as yet.

JeanneP

I am not in any hurry to use W10 Either.  I have w7. Works for me.  I would be happy still using WXP.  I still have one in the closet.  I have all the system. some W98SE still new in boxes. Even W95s.  Need to do a clean out one of these day. Doubt they ever come back.

Thanks, Jack!  I hadn't heard about QuickTime and found I had Quick Time 7, but it's being uninstalled as I write this.

Have you read this?

Yahoo will be discontinuing Yahoo Games on Friday 13 May 2016 and, starting today, you will no longer be able to make in-game purchases. Yahoo will continue to make the site available for game publishers to allow you to play their games and use the remainder of any in-game purchases until Friday 13 May 2016.

Please refer to the specific games you play for in-game information about that game publisher’s plans in connection with the sunset of Yahoo Games.

We would like to thank you for your support over the years!

Read they were selling a lot of their subs off.  I keep worrying about yahoo email.   Guess I should go get another email address just in case, eh?

angelface555

Microsoft, Google and another entity I've forgotten are purchasing various parts of Yahoo on bankrupt status. I used a yahoo address for business but also have Outlook and Gmail. I am waiting to hear about the Yahoo PSP groups as well as the email.

JeanneP

Now I thought I read where Yahoo was setting up a new kind of Network. Never read about financial problems. I don't use it all the time but my E-M did change the home page and lots of ways of working on their Home page.  I just have it one for a extra one where I have to give a E-M address on line at times.  Are they showing losing money on the stock Market?
JeanneP

angelface555

Jeanne they have been bleeding money for years, haven't caught up with new ideas and social networking. Had many CEOS in a short amount of time so this was probably not unexpected.

I presume you mean a discussion for Mac Users. ---
I have no experience with Mac's so have not started a discussion (I'd be of little help). If there is anyone who feels reasonably Mac savvy who would like to lead a discussion, --- PLEASE let me or another Moderator know.

I use Yahoo mail but have not seen an announcement of it closing.  I also use Hotmail which has been pretty unreliable.  I use the Yahoo for mostly mail from friends and have been using Hotmail for family and really close friends, but the Hotmail link I use is down a lot of the time.  What are you others with Yahoo planning when it closes?

Sue

maryz

Sue, I never used either yahoo or Hotmail, but I've been very happy with gmail for about 10+ years.  You might give that a try.

Gmail has always been my choice, and a happy one.

wjoan

I have always been ok with Yahoo mail til recently when they took it over for their ads on videos.  Been using Thunderbird since they did that.

JeanneP

I also use Gmail as my main one for E-Mailing.  Now had a problem with it over 7 years. Think they like you to have a Google acct. also. I do use them for certain things.  I have Comcast as my Internet provider. Just about the only one in my city.
JeanneP
