Did you also give them a name?  Here the most popular name for a cow is "Nitza"

I grew up in the inner city, had heard the Horse bolting saying, but we had another issue.   Was in a family with 10 kids ,
when we went out mom locked the door to keep us out.

so_P_bubble

ha ha ha Jack, were you that unruly?

jackwv

Bubble was fairly well behaved, in private school and had a few issues as a teen - fights no guns.

Even if they got out they would be back at milking time. They seem to know what the routine is. They are placid. We never had a concern when walking through their areas

Really, Rick? :2funny:

Hi
I went to the sunshine school!

Kelly I just had a pleasant visit to The Sunshine School on Google Image.   My school and church were both torn down years ago.

Jack, what the article is talking about is sometimes called ransomware. Do you remember news reports about the hospital who had to pay a ransom as its records and operating systems were locked? They had to pay to get their internal information and records back.

More and more businesses are being targeted by these issues and what the article is saying is that "they," scammers'  are ready to begin using it against the general public.

What they are telling folks is to always keep a current back up and not leave your backup connected to the computer.

jackwv

Patricia, thanks, I had one issue years back and got it solved.   I will, on occasion get a fake Microsoft message, and found I was able to remove by rebooting.  Guess the day will come!

angelface555

Ransomeware, Jack, is where your entire computer no longer boots up and you receive a message saying you will need to pay money to get any and all info returned. Your hard drive is destroyed.

In the business world they are told to pay as the police have not been able to find anyone to arrest. Both Apple and Windows have been affected

Lets hope we are small peanuts and they won't be interested in us!

JeanneP

Not a worry for me either .kill my computer and could just buy another hard drive and start over. I still prefer my info on paper. Nothing secure on the Internet

Its ironic and scary that the authorities advise the businesses to just pay up. Hospitals have medical records, banks have financials. One was a county seat and I don't know what type of info they have. This is worldwide but they think it may have partially originated in North Korea.

"They also made a new variant of Locky, which attacks network shares and other attached storage, using blank/null credentials and/or the locally logged in user credentials. For the most part, they are sticking to 104.239.213.7 as the server, but are registering multiple domains. Lastly, they are partnering with the Exploit Kit (EK) developers to bundle Locky, so I expect to see a drastic increase in the number of samples being distributed via exploits and spam.”

"Now, even more than ever, it is recommended that you keep offline backups of your data as malicious files can find their way to networked storage or devices." Which means OneDrive or other cloud type storage.

My dairy-farming son had a favorite cow that was extra large, so he named her Bulldozer!  :2funny:

Hi Rammel
I have a notebook and have tried to download Windows 10, but it says it has not enough memory.

Are notebooks small in memory that Windows 10 cannot be installed. It is a year old notebook.

Kelly

so_P_bubble

Can't you check what memory is free?

Kelly

Hi Bubble
I have, it requires 9.1GB and available memory is 4.9GB.

I have next to no music or photographs on the notebook.  I must check the manual to see what the original memory was.

Memory is (usually, if not always) RAM, the temporary area area where programs are run. Memory, or RAM does not retain any info when the computer is shut down.

The hard drive is where you store stuff - music, pic's, programs, on and on.

Often Memory can be increased by buying additional memory modules, or replacing smaller ones with bigger ones (bigger in content, not physical size). Memory often tends to be more costly than other computer parts so the makers often just put in the minimum. Check your User's Manual. They usually have info on memory and how to upgrade it.  Depending on the rest of your puter it still may not like W-10.

Hi Rammel
Thanks for the information.

I tried to install Windows 10 again, but again it says not enough memory.

Do you think an external hard drive would be best.

Adding a hard drive would NOT help. Due to strange computerese when they refer to Memory they refer to the RAM,  not the amount of hard drive space you have. If you can find the User's Manual it probably will tell you how to add more Memory.

If you can tell us the make and model maybe we can find some info for you.

Just looked at S&F and won't be back on S&F for a few hours.

When I am home I will send details of the notebook.

Hi Rammel
Still not at my computer, so handy these smartphones as I can pop in and post, wherever there is a wireless comnnecton.

Kelly,

Are you typing in with your fingers on that smart phone? Or do you have the Voice Recognition on that?

Hi Rammel
No finger typing, only one thumb on the computer if the voice recognition is not working.
