Being "funny" again, Kelly?  ;D  You do like to do that...

Kelly

Hi Bubble
Yes I do like to be funny!

But I don't know what 'getting a spot is'

It's making a minimal post on a discussion so that when there's a new post you can get back to it easily.

"getting a spot" " To get a place in somewhere"" Show you are in"
Rammel jumped in before my posting but his is closer to the meaning over here.

I think it's a bit too "local".

Thought I might confuse things but you folks are too smart.   I was thinking dot and dash, and remember when my Father a Telegrapher tried back in early 40s to teach me, but gave up.   Not much later he was training folks for the railroad and almost lost his job when he suggested not much of a future for it with telephone etc coming along.   Boy would he have loved the computer.

I remember us being taught Morse Code.  ..--I was in the Girl Guides in the UK.  It was during the war and and think they were told  soon not to be teaching it at the time.

Hi Everyone
I tried to learn shorthand, well a type of shorthand called Teeline.

:knuppel2:  "“The creators recently modified the DGA (Domain Generating Algorithm) so that the Command and Control servers are different each day. They also made a new variant of Locky, which attacks network shares and other attached storage, using blank/null credentials and/or the locally logged in user credentials. For the most part, they are sticking to 104.239.213.7 as the server, but are registering multiple domains. Lastly, they are partnering with the Exploit Kit (EK) developers to bundle Locky, so I expect to see a drastic increase in the number of samples being distributed via exploits and spam.”
"Now, even more than ever, it is recommended that you keep offline backups of your data as malicious files can find their way to networked storage or devices. I personally have a backup that is always attatched and runs several times per day, and an offline copy that is secure in the case that my attatched backups are compromised. Getting started with backups is very easy, especially as storage prices are steadily decreasing. A simple 1 TB (TeraByte) external hard drive will work perfectly for most consumers, and only costs around $50.00.

There are currently developments in creating a vaccine to prevent Locky from encrypting your files. Sylvain Sarméjeanne has an article here that dives very technically into the workings of Locky and how vaccines can be developed. One Locky vaccine, which is being used as a proof of concept has been published by cryptobioz here. We’re still testing this vaccine for it’s effectiveness, and will update this blog with our findings. It is not expected to be a complete fix to stop Locky encryptions, just proof that the ideas presented by Sylvain Sarméjeanne in his article can be effective and further developed.

PC Matic users with SuperShield running should be aware that these files will not be able to execute on their machines, as SuperShield will stop them."

Kelly I had a year of shorthand, never used.  Did learn to type that is a big help, even now.

Patricia, afraid that article is way over my head, except for the suggestion to get the external drive,  but even it can get hit.   I do feel more secure with Windows Defender updating and scanning every day.

RAMMEL

Speaking of external drives. ------ I sure hope this site is really being backed up now. Sort of like

Ehhhh, ---- that could be. But I suppose it varies with what you are raising. At this age I would have to say --- What difference does it make (A stolen quote).  We had cows where I lived as a youth.

But I will change it to Horses.

I always thought  that cows were more placid and would stay in their place.
But then I never raised cows.

RAMMEL

Even if they got out they would be back at milking time. They seem to know what the routine is. They are placid. We never had a concern when walking through their areas
