Michael...do you think there will be many changes when this is no longer a beta version?

Oldiesmann

There shouldn't be many changes at all now. At this point most of the changes are just bug fixes and various improvements.

jane

Any chance you can bump font size up to maybe a 4? People are having to code that each time they post in discussions I've seen.  We have old eyes, Michael.  :coolsmiley:

  Jane...
...another solution - suggestion would be to up our own computer monitor screen ( customise and control panel )...I have mine set to 110 but I could go higher, maybe 125 if I want the page writings to look larger print, or to read other posters smaller print...

jane

I use an IPAD, and that's not an option I want since I'd have to change it for every other site I go to.

If others are happy with the default print size, I can live with it.  I just hate to see more people leaving because they don't want to try to do the coding or the highlighting or resetting their settings for one website in order to read the tiny print.

Something I would like very much to get rid of!  When I click on Mark all messages as read, on the forum, an annoying little box pops up on my screen that says "Are you sure you want to mark all messages as read?" Then you have to click yes or no, to make it go away. Is that supposed to be an upgrade?  We got along fine without it in the past. Is there any way to get rid of that box forever? :knuppel2:

Vanilla-Jackie

Can we have our old forum back? .... ok, I know that is not an option just wishful thinking on my part...it was worth asking anyway.... ;D

Getting rid of that is just a simple code change, so I can do that if it's a huge deal. That was added to make sure people don't click that button by accident.

I can increase the default font size some more, but I'm not sure there's an easy way to make the default size "4" without affecting other things as well.

angelface555

I know of three who've left and one plan to take a break. However, the former three may find it hard to stay away. These changes, unexpected as they are without simple, concise instructions for those not computer literate caught everyone by surprise.

It doesn't have to be 4.  But Iif you can't change from this apparent font size 1 or 2, then people who stay will live with it.  Thanks for explanation.

I use size 3 and it seems ok.
And yes, that "are u sure" is annoying!

Another thing is, when you are posting as the 1st of a page, you cannot see anymore the previous posts that are on the other page, as it was possible previously. Any way to change that?

roley

I'M JUST PLAIN CONFUSED !.

I've edited the code to remove the confirmation when clicking that button.

I'm not sure what you mean about previous posts. When I try it in this topic, all of the previous posts show up regardless of which page I'm on when I click "Reply".

Michael, I have something happening that is new.  I do not use the Spell Check since I'm a pretty good speller.  It isn't happening here in this message, but in the folders the red line starts when I type a word and continues until I am nearly finished with the word.  It happens with every word.

If there is some way to get it to quit, I'd appreciate it but if not, I can live with it.  If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

I think you have an almost thankless job.

I finally after ten days, was able to post a photo in Pets. Please, could we have a simple basic explanation of size and compressing that all could understand and use, grafted into Attachments and other options? Also for some reason, in my posts, my IP address shows under my location. Since no one else seems to have that issue, I'm assuming hopefully that I'm the only one who sees it?

That's the browser's built-in spellcheck feature, not the one here (the one here only works when you click the Spell Check button).

Your IP address only shows up for you and the administrators. It's hidden for guests and everyone else.

Mary Ann

Michael, the last time I posted, the spell check thing was not doing that.  If it does it again, I can live with it.

Michael just wanted to thank you for working things out.  Shame you are unable to get into my mind (it is generally blank)  Believe I have things sorted out after the last change, and for my part all is working well.  Again thanks.

jane

I'm hoping the real version will take us to the first new post since we posted last and not just to the top of the page where that new post is.  Maybe??

so_P_bubble

On that new page I click on "go down" and work my way up  to the last I read.

Marilyne

Still, it seems like it takes too many steps now, to post a message, compared to the old way? Then we seem to miss lots of posts, because we have to either scroll up or down to see a message. We used to be able to click on "See new replies to your posts", and the replies would show up. I know the "unread posts" is at the top right, but it isn't the same? Not sure why that is?

Oldiesmann

The "show unread replies to your posts" feature is still there. It's just known as "updated topics" now.

Vanilla-Jackie

I haven't made any postings for a day or two on this forum but this morning I came into 137 emails of which at least 120 - 125 were from notifications from our site, even from  rooms I haven't posted in for some weeks, many being back-dated...I had originally unticked these rooms for notifications so have no Idea why they have started up again...I usually only come in to a maximum of 30 normal emails but was overwhelmed with the amount of emails this morning...I have now gone into my S & Fs account and unticked them all, lets see what happens..

Also when I press the preview button before posting, it only shows part of my post, not all, as it once did, so in that case how can I look for spelling mistakes before hitting that post button...

Oldiesmann

I made some changes to the notifications code recently to fix the problem with duplicate notifications and such. It appears that the bug with the code (prior to my changes) caused it to miss things, so that's why you're suddenly getting old notifications. That should hopefully clear out soon.

I have no idea why it would only show part of the post when you click "preview". It's showing all of it for me.

Mary Ann

Michael, your post was small and probably would show the entire post.  I recently clicked on Preview to see what I would get.  I write "books" and it did not show maybe the bottom third of my post and I couldn't move it.  I will say I usually do not Preview my posts, posting instead and using Quick Edit if I need to make a correction.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Michael - I am again getting the pop-up box that says, Are you sure you want to mark messages as read? This happens every time I click on Mark all messages as read. I told you about it, and you removed it, but now its back.  Can you please get rid of it once and for all?   Also, my preview box is only showing a fragment of my messages, so I'm unable to proofread them.

Vanilla-Jackie

Michael ( Oldiesmann ) quoting:
"I have no idea why it would only show part of the post when you click "preview". It's showing all of it for me.."

...try posting something in font size 3 or 4, then you might see what I mean when you " preview it "...if one posts in our regular small font size it will show a preview of all the post but not when one uses larger font..
