Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Darlene....hope you get some relief from the inner ear infection so ypu can enjoy the graduations.

We have an appt in Dubuque today, but nothing else on the calendar.  Tomorrow is the busy day, and we're supposed to have a lot of rain and storms.  My three appts are here in town, but Ray has one back in Dubuque for the surgeon to check his wound.

Jane

MaryPage

This is my happy birthday, and also Queen Victoria's.  Started celebrating days ago, though.  Chip is taking me to Gambrills this blazingly sunny day.  We will lunch and shop at Wegman's there, and wind up in Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream.  Woo Hoo!

maryz

Have a wonderful "HAPPY" day, MaryPage.  I'm glad we got to celebrate with you early.

Well, hecky dern! I posted a while ago and now it's gone!! Darn cyber gremlins!

Anyway,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY PAGE, AND MANY MORE!!

Not much going on here. I did 2 loads of laundry yesterday, so stripped the beds and have the sheets in now.  Picked my first 3 hydrangea flowers of the year. They are so pretty and the bush is just covered with buds.

Get well, Darlene, so you can enjoy those graduations.

Jane, hope all the appts go well for you and Ray.

Mary, that's the way with bridge cards--up and down! Oh well, that's why it is a challenge.

Have a nice day everyone. Sharon

JeanneP

But MaryPage.  You just had a birthday. I guess they just come faster for us.  You have a nice one. Your plans sound good.  Just hope not as hot a we are having right now. Was 90 deg yesterday but they do say rain some time today. Just enjoy the birthday and then Forget it.
Long as they keep a coming. Numbers mean nothing.

I've heard from Kris, Sue's DIL, and have an address.  I don't want to put it here, so I've sent an email with it to our regulars here for whom I have emails.

If someone else wants it, please email me, and I'll get it to you.  Her DIL thought Sue would love to get cards.

Happy Birthday.  MARY PAGE.."Darlene

JeanneP

Jane. Good that a address out to us.  Goodness. That fall was a lot worse than I thought it would be. Going to take awhile. Sure taught me to not be doing a few things I thought I could still do. She will most probably be moved again so good idea to send to Son's address
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

On sue s address....is it just Opelika..then 36801?  Darlene

jane

Darlene, the state is Alabama.

I'll send the whole thing again.

Cottoncandy

Ok...got her add correct...will mail her a card tomorrow...thanks Jane. Darlene

MaryPage

I'm sort of wondering if anyone is getting Sue's mail that goes to her home, because I sent a get well card there a couple of weeks ago.

Before Bob died, he instructed me very seriously, and made me give him my solemn promise that I would NEVER climb a ladder, step ladder, chair or stool on my own.  He asked that I not do this at all, but that if I felt I absolutely had to, I must have someone right there with me. So I promised.  His idea was that he had known so very many old folks, both men and women, fall and never really recover.  I have, too;  and so I am extra fussily careful about this, and Bob has been dead over 10 years now, and I have kept my promise.  You just really pay too high a price when you sustain falls at my age!  Old bones, muscles and nerves cannot take the same thing young people bounce right back from.  So if you are 75 or older, think twice before you step UP on something!

THANK YOU so very much for all of the lovely birthday greetings.  I have had a wonderful 2 days of birthday celebration, and look forward to the rest of the week doing the same.  MaryZ, I don't know how you figured it, but your card arrived right smack on the day today!

jane

MaryPage....I think Kris said they had her mail stopped...which I assume means they're having it held at the PO and she or Tim picks it up and gets it to Sue.

MaryPage, My daughter in Law Sarah's Birthday was Friday the 20th  and Keith's is today. the 24th , Our wedding was in the middle the 22tnd.
\
We went to Safeway earlier and bought a 2 nice steaks  that I broiled tgo perfection for his birthday dinner. He also had mashed potatoes and gravy with a side salad and Cake leftover from Sunday and ice cream as well.  I had steak and salad, with cake for desert. I should be eating cake as my Dr said Said i was eating too m any carbs. My A1C was 5.7 and Blood Glucose was 110, she said TOO MANY CARBS!!!

JeanneP

Marilyn.   Does seem that you bake a lot of cakes and bread. (2 of my weaknesses).  Did you have lots of wedding cake left.  I take it you put some in the freezer for 1st anniversary And also suppose to save some for birth of first baby.  I think you can eat that piece now..
JeanneP

jane

Marilyn...your doc probably wants your A1c below the 5.7?  I think that's the "normal" standard now. Is she having you test yourself or just wants you to work on diet?

Busy day here...doc appt at 10:00, dreaded dentist appt for 6 month cleaning and check at 1:00, and then a massage at 3:00.  I need that with all this joint and muscle aches with this goofy weather pressure changes we're having.

This is Blue Angels Day here on the bay.  I can see them from my home, but not their entire detailed show.  That centers on the Naval Academy right where it borders Annapolis Harbor, but of course, because it is up there in the sky and because they are jets zooming across those broad blue skies at incredible speeds, they have a very wide range for their act.  I should say acts, because if you have seen a Blue Angels performance, you know that they come in all six in tight and unbelievable formation, and then two of them split off.  We never know from which direction of the compass they will choose to enter the space above us and start showing off.  Thousands of boats, little dinghies to grand yachts, fill up the harbor and the mouth of the Severn River where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay, for this is the very best place from which to view the entire circumference of their aerial gymnastics.  From my deck/balcony I can see watercraft pouring in from every direction.  I can also see heaps of my neighbors sitting out in yard chairs down at our beach or on the green, green grass next to the heap of rocks down there;  from there you can see just about everything.
First I HEAR them, and if you have never heard them, I must tell you the noise is deafening.  And I can see them from my front, kitchen deck/balcony, but only because they have to fly that far and further in order to circle around and back to the focus of their audience.  I see more from the back deck which faces the water and the humongous fleet of boats anchored out there to catch the Blue Angels.  I see a lot of their maneuvers in the sky from there, but most definitely not the whole show.  After the six come in together, four of the planes stay together and perform marvelous tricks;  but two take off on their own, sometimes doing 2 plane tricks and, more often, totally on their own and doing simply unbelievable stuff.  They perform for about an hour, and then all of a sudden they are tight together again in their six plane formation and heading way, way off into the distance.  And they are gone.  And a huge silence is left behind.  Then everyone emits a collective sigh, and the little to large boats gather themselves and toot all manner of horns by way of clapping and turn around, many saying goodbyes to their neighbor boats, and take off in the direction from which they came.  Until another year.  Until another Naval Academy graduation week.

Marilyn

Jane my fasting glucose was 110 along with that A1C reading. She isn't having me test myself, however, my cholesterol up a bit not much but it was the LDL that was up some from the last time a year ago. also the Triglycerides. sp.

Today I see the ENT to see if my hoarseness is anything to be concerned about.

SharonE

Hi Gals, it is another beautiful, sunny day here in SC and I can hear the landscapers' mowers headed down the street. So nice to have the lawn as part of the HOA. Of course we take care of the flowers and the garden we put on the hill in the back.

Jane, hope you get through your dental visit without too much stress. I know you hate them.  I really don't mind them unless they are doing surgery.  The massage should smooth out all the ruffled feathers.  I could sure use one too.

Marilyn, too bad about the glucose levels, but at least you have the warning and can remedy it.  I love carbs too.  My cholesterol levels are always awful but not much to be done about them.  Wish Keith a happy birthday for us.

Thanks, Jane, for the address. I haven't been to my email yet, but will be glad to get it.

Molly, you've been absent for a while. I hope the Egyptair crash didn't have any impact on Mohamed or his family & friends.

I wish Diane could find some time to post what is going on with them. It can't be good.

No plans for today.   Hope you all have good days.  Sharon

I've been to the Clinic, and ARNP agrees I don't need the second BP meds and I domhave white coat syndrome.  She checked it when Imleft and BP was down as was pulse...from 109 when I got there to the mid 80s.  I also had a bloodshot eye this morning that she looked at and had one of the docs look at...both think just a spontaneous rupture from rubbiing it or whatever.  I'm to use moisturing drops for a few days, and I'll see her again in early July for my annual "wellness visit."

Now to try to calm down and get ready for the dentist visit.

Ray saw my surgeon about the wound on the back of his leg....now in a "flexible cast" and has to go back each week and they'll change it, so he doesn't have to do the daily dressing change.  Doc said it'd be a long summer for Ray.  I'm glad we had no plans and have canceled the NYC trip we'd signed up for for early Sept.

I mailed a card to Sue this morning.   I hope the cards cheer her up.

I've been out on the kitchen deck watering blue pots full of geraniums and the yellow hibiscus, so have missed the activity out on the bay.  Wednesday is for watering plants.  So turning my attentions to the bayside balcony, I see hundreds of boats already anchored in their favorite spots, while hundreds more are pouring in from the north, the south, and across bay waters to the east.  My goodness, it is not yet twelve thirty and the show will not start until two.  They will have "Fat Albert," a WWII cargo plane, and some others do some show opening type antics for a while now, but then all will shut down and the quiet will come.  In the meantime, everyone will have been eating great food catered by the ladies aboard, while the men work the bottle openers and call back and forth to the other boats.  They love to ask everyone where they're from, sometimes discovering neighbors and sometimes making new friends from Delaware to the north or Virginia to the south.  Everyone checks their watches, and instinctively that quiet descends and all eyes scan the skies.  Which way will they come this year?  I always bet on the southwest.  Roar, wham, bang!  They're here!
But at this point, they aren't.  MaryZ, I WISH you could see the literally thousands of boats pouring in here!  It is a dazzlingly sunshiny day.  I hope Alison & Joe played hookey for the afternoon.
Our school system gave up decades ago.  They had been faced with no students after noon on Blue Angel Wednesday every year.  Both public and private schools finally gave up and gave everyone the half day.  No fair for teachers to have to stick around in near-empty classrooms.  So all Annapolis celebrates this day, including parents and kinfolk in town for the commissioning of over a thousand navy midshipmen.  We are full to the brim, and as I glance out towards the bay I can see the foamy wakes of hundreds of little boats speeding to find their place in the crowded waters.  Wish you were here!

maryz

MaryPage, we've seen the Blue Angels perform several times, including a last-one-of-the-season in Pensacola, and twice here in Chattanooga.  The second time was in 2005 when we got to see the rehearsal.  We were buying my car, and the dealership was near the airport.  We were in the flight patterns for their test runs, and everybody just hung out in the parking lot of the dealership watching.  Fun, but not as great as seeing them over Annapolis.  Always a treat!

jane, I know you're glad to get the dreaded dental visit over for another six months.  Sorry Ray has had such a problem from last winter's accident.

Sharon, I know you're glad to have the humdrum yard work taken care of, and you get to do only the fun stuff.  LOL

Marilyn, I know you'll keep good track of your lab numbers and see that they stay where you want them.

Nothing much going on around here.  I'm meeting some friends for dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant tonight - nothing much else going on.  Happy Wednesday, Buddies!

SHARON - Many thanks for thinking of me.  In response to your question RE the plane accident with the Egyptian passengers, NONE of the them were related to Mohamed -NO family, friends or colleagues.
He and I have talked daily - often several times! - about the horrible experiences and I have tried each time to encourage him with prayers and positive thoughts for HIS current responsibilities and University end-of-semester duties.  He has been do sad about the loss of the people on the flight, while at the same time absolutely exhausted by the number of final papers (several hundred!) he has to grade.  We pray together on the phone and I stay in touch with him online also.

David will be coming to stay overnight with me in a few hours.  He's been up this way to help his Mother-in-law transfer her household things after she recently sold her house and it's been a huge chore.  She's moving in with her eldest daughter and family in Charlotte, NC and that's only a few miles where I live in Concord, NC.  David is also preparing for his transfer to Korea in early June for one year, so tonight will be a good chance for us to catch up on family news.  Thanks to all good friends here for keeping David (also known as CHAPS ;) in prayers!

SharonE

Hi Gals, I have never seen the Blue Angels other than on TV, but I'm sure they are breathtaking.  Brian's base had an air show last weekend with the Thunderbirds and posted a video of them.  So awesome, both of them.

I'm back from the grocery and then Frances called for me to come over. Her daughter is visiting but also helping a cousin with decorating so was gone and she wanted company.

Lynne Lampman posted & tagged me on FB that she had a nerve ablation done today and was pain free in that hip for the first time since 1979! I do hope they can do that for me, but my pain is in a different place, so don't know.  Anyway, sure glad to hear from someone who had had it done.

Molly, glad all is reasonably well with Mohammed. I hope he is able to get through all the test grading quickly.  That was something I never minded as a teacher but then I didn't have 100's of students.  Enjoy spending some time with your son. I know you probably dread his being gone for a year, but with Skype, it will go fast.  Did you find out anything about your head pains yet?  Take care of yourself.

Jane, glad that you don't need another med and that the dr. realizes it is unnecessary.  Hope your massage was good.

Mary, hope you had fun with your friends at dinner.

I got some get well cards at the grocery, so will get one in the mail tomorrow to our Sue.

Hi to Ginny Ann, Darlene, Joy, Jeanne, Marilyn, and anyone else I've missed. Have a good Memorial Day weekend.  Put my flags out yesterday.  Sharon
