Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

It's a beautiful fall day here.  Just the kind of day that I wouldn't mind having all year round.

I'm waiting for David to get back from picking up this week's groceries and then will do a few kitchen duties.  Other than that it is a quiet day.

Take care, All.

Good morning, crisp, clear, and cold out there this morning at 12 degrees. Winter in the arctic is when you want those clouds rolled in to hold in some heat! Clear skies mean it's going to get very cold, and the longer those clouds stay away, the colder it will get. It is too cold to snow as you need moisture and humidity for that. We have built up frost on roofs and metal and some on the grasses. Multiple trees never had a chance to shed their leaves.

When I opened the curtains and blinds this morning, I saw the smokers huddled in their lawn chairs and benches in the fenced-in smoking area at the far end of the parking lot. I am so glad I don't smoke! Several used to smoke on their balcony even though the buildings and parking lots were smoke-free other than that one area set out for them. It took two evictions for folks to realize management meant business. When it gets frigid, folks will warm up their cars, gather friends and cohorts, and travel to a service station's parking lot to get their smokes in.

Amy, you're right. I was restless yesterday and kept thinking I was missing something, but I couldn't think of what it might be.

Amy

Patricia, I was sent photos from my son and they got hail! Hail and high winds  in their area and although we did get some high winds we were spared the hail.

Amy, On October 9th, I posted, "Yesterday and today, we had rain clouds but no real rain. Then around eleven AM, it started with rain that quickly turned to hail. I can count on three fingers the times I've seen hail here. So, we expect another record-breaking year as in the last four. At 3:30, that hail turned into light-blowing snow mixed with rain.

Since we often receive weather from Siberia that travels across western Alaska and then to Canada's Yukon Province, I wonder if that weather is only now reaching David's area.

I think most CD rates are 1.75% maybe 2% if you're lucky and know somebody who can tell you what bank to go to! Last accounting was:  25 cents on a single CD of over $10K. How does that grab you?

Lloyd Hammond

well I am a little earley this evening, but I am bidding you all good night and sweet dreas. If  I rember I will get where and how much our cd's are getting.and tell you tomorow, but I think it is just under 5%.

On CD rates, they pay a bit more for longer terms, like 5 years.  I just have mine for one year so I can get to the money quick without forfeiting any of it. 5 Years will pay you 3.50% with Capital One.  At my age, who knows if I'll be here in five years ;D ?

Lloyd I can't think of ANY banks that are paying 4.5%.  You must have an awesome amount of money in them, and for many (5+) years.  I will keep my banking down here, thank you.

Good late morning at 9 am and 25 and cloudy. Nothing is going on today that needs to be done, most chores can be put off until after the weekend, and I'm enjoying this period of staying lazy until the next big thing appears. Here are a few more quotes from my senior desktop calendar;

"We now have exactly the same situation as we had at the start of the race, only exactly the opposite."  Car-racing commenter Murray Walker

"I know now what is tragic isn't the moment. It is the memory." Writer Jacqueline Woodson, Another Brooklin.

"We're still as sharp as a button here." Sportscaster David Vine.

A trip to get rid of garbage this morning and sewing I hope.

Jane, hope you are having a grand time with family. We miss you here..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My daughter left to return to Maryland and Frankie is getting ready for work.  I'm ready to go to church and we will both be leaving at the same time.  Then I'm on my own for a while.  Frankie will come by around 7 to get her sleepover stuff and her doggie and this house will echo with it's emptiness!

I've read everything that was posted and maybe I'll remember to comment later!  Have a good day everyfriend...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Everyone is gone and my supper is ready to eat!  I'm going to turn on the TV and eat my supper in front of it.  I have a feeling that when I'm finished eating, my eyes will close and I'll be napping!  I'm really tired!  I went to church this morning and then I did some stufff when I got home and now I'm ready to "throw in the towel" or maybe I'll "roll up the sidewalk"!  I had such a good visit with my daughter and did lots of things with her and Cathy joined us for some of them.

Today was a beautiful day!  It never got above 66 but the sun was out and there wasn't any wind and it just felt good out there.  Cooper spent a lot of time in the yard and so did I!

I don't know if I'll be back to say "goodnight" so I'll say it now...Goodnight Everyfriend!

Shirley

We have a freeze warning for the next couple nights, that always helps the allergies but I am concerned for my hibiscus. It is way to heavy for me to move, everyone busy doing catch up (summer to winter clothes & all that stuff).

Tomorrow is my meeting with the new cardiology group & doctor. Not sure how that will go but it's a start. The pool guy called to say the people next door want their pool closed tomorrow so he will do mine as well. He's done it several years so will leave the side gate unlocked & he can start if I'm not back from the doc yet. Gotta go to the car tag office to get new tags & pay the yearly tax for both vehicles... the car is more expensive that the motorhome, crazy, huh?  Gonna be busy, for sure!

Nothing exciting going on but am eager to hit the bed, out of steam!  Sounds like from north to south we are seeing fall and winter move in. Oh, Patricia, I think some of your robins came through today. They were playing all over my front yard. I put out some grapes that were kinda yucky but one robin was delighted & worked on getting the goodies out for the longest time, right in front of the window I bird watch out. I slice the grapes in half so they can get to the goodies inside easier.

Good night to all and God Bless. Hope tomorrow is one of those happy fall days and we can all dance in the cool sunshine! Love ya, Shirley

Haha, Rick, by the time he gets the pool ready to close & dumps all those chemicals in I will already owe him an arm & leg! I honestly don't have any place inside the house I want to put it, have one corner of the master bedroom that already houses several big pots of nearly dead looking flowers from other years. Trouble with me, hate to dump any plants that act like they want to survive, they have feelings, you know.  ;)  ::) Thanks for the thought.

I have several plants that I keep alive in my garage near the window. They are from Boyce Thompson (in Yonkers), where I worked for a while after I got out of high school. I move them inside or outside with the seasons. This year I forgot to put them out and now they are hurting. Maybe one or two will survive. When one flowers it can be smelled as soon as I enter the garage. So they are over 68 years old. Just can't let them go.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this  morning and waiting for the coffee pot to finish up!

RICK, I can't imagine having plants that old!  They must be real survivors!  When Christy was here, she planted some tulip and daffodil bulbs so I have something to look for in the Spring!

I don't know what's on the schedule for today.  I think I'll just take things as they come.  I do have a couple of new recipes waiting to be tried.  Maybe one of those will jump out.  Cooper won't be here today because Frankie has the day off.  I'll miss him and I'll miss having her stop by!

Right now, it's 45º and only heading for a high of 61 and cloudy!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

They are not hardy so must be brought in every winter. One is from bulbs, the others from tubers. So easy to propagate. Through my neglect I may have lost them. If so, I'm down to some cactus that the kids started from seed when they were small. My wife's grandfather , who was in the Florist business, laughed when he heard the kids planted cactus. I guess he knew how fast they would grow.

Covid and Flu shots today.

We're at 28 and clear this morning with an expected high of 39. Yesterday we had boiling snow clouds and were told to expect an inch in the valley and 4 to 6 in the hills. Instead, those clouds swept up and over the foothills and passed east toward Canada.

Amy

Patricia, you go right ahead and send the snow!!! Mr Snow blower is at the ready for the dance and now the vehicle is ready with snow tires on. I do need to take it back in for a brake job (ouch) but rather be safe than sorry.

Drug store called could we come in tomorrow for our flu shots, yes, early appointment then home to drop off Kyle  and then back into town to get my hair finally cut!

Amy, in the past, we've always gotten our cold weather in the Interior from Canada with our warmer weather from Siberia. Lately, all bets are off as those roiling snow clouds headed into the Yukon Territory. I'm unsure where it goes from there or if it heads east or south back in the US.

As long as it stays cold, or at least cold for this time of year, we won't have snow. There is no humidity and no moisture in dry cold, and the clouds aren't covering enough to seal in the heat. So, snow isn't a real possibility.

The city maintenance crews and this building's maintenance aren't equipped to handle another year like the last two, you'd think they'd take the past into account, but you know what they say about expectations.

Weather reports say we'll get a second chance as the weather warms back into the forties on Friday through Sunday. I believe I'll wait and see.

Lloyd Hammond

well I am late closing up again to night, good Night and sweet dreams, hope to see you all tomorow in good health and good sperits.
