Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Oh yes, Jane!  Every shoe store had one!  And we Did put first one foot and then the other in and out and in and out and look down through the top glass to admire the bones in our feet!  I have no idea how much exposure we got, but they sure did pull them all out in a Hurry just as soon as someone figured out xrays were killers!  By the way, I have diligently spelled them with an X, and something stupid in my software changes the X to a G.
I have no idea why it is so, but am aware it makes me look stupid.
Can't be helped, as I have NO idea how to attempt to fix the matter.  Hope it does not mean an expenditure for a new computer.
By the way, my youngest great grand, Clio age 17 months, is rather desperately ill with bacterial pneumonia, so please each of you say your favorite prayer or good wishes of any sort for her return to good health.  My heart is filled with fear and pain.  Thank you.

maryz

So sorry about your great-grand, MaryPage. I hope those antibiotics do their work quickly.

I, too, remember getting my feet x-rayed in the store to be sure the shoes fit. And now we buy them online without even trying them on first.  ;D

jane, good like with this next lens implant, too. Allergy season is in full swing here, too - but this is one of the worst areas in the country. Our "season" lasts 2-3 months in the spring. And for some, like me, it lasts all year long.  Kachoo!

Good morning. The only shoe apparatus I remember was a black and silver piece with sliders. You put your foot on it standing, and the shoe clerk moves a slider to your toes to get the correct size. Nowadays, you're lucky to find a clerk, let alone a sizing mechanism.

Tomereader1

Yes, I definitely remember the Xray machine in the Shoe stores.  Of course, I wasn't allowed to "play" on them, my mother wouldve whacked me good.  It was nice to see how your toes fit into the shoes you were trying on! I was thinking about those machines the other day (in my full-feathered memories) and wish sometimes we could have them back.
I know it would be great to see how the shoes fit nowadays, since they all seem to come from China, and you can never be quite sure if something in your size will actually fit.  I just sent a neat pair of shoes back to Amazon because one shoe was smaller in the toe-box than the other.  My toes have not grown or shrunk, LOL!

Tomereader1

Yes, I remember the "Maypole".  Guess I was too shy to ask the teacher exactly what the reason was for wrapping multi-colored ribbons around a pole.

MaryPage

I remember Maypoles and what Fun they were!

MaryPage...that tradition seems to have gone away, like hanging homemade (or school made in elem art class) little Baskets with violets on a neighbor's door.

Well, I'm home now with my second new lens and it seems to be working well.

I'm so relieved it's all over.  The man ahead of me had a "problem" of some sort so the Nurse and later other MD came by to tell me I'd be the last of the day and be a bit delayed.

So, I'm home for a much less stressful month coming up.  YEAH!!! We were supposed to have rain today, but nothin' yet.  My phone rang at 2:15 am....ADT telling me my neighbor's alarm had gone off as I'm their emergency contact.  I looked out my bedroom window and saw 3 policecars arrive, so figured they'd handle whatever, and I went back to bed. ;)

Nothing else exciting here.

Hi Girls, I remember the shoe xray alsp. Wdhen I got new tennis shoes recently, they had the metal shoe sizer there, which I used. I've gone up about half a size. My toes are arthritic and bend over to the side and all my arches have fallen, so now I take an 11.5 Wide! Look like clodhoppers. My brother used to say when I was a teen that I could get a job stamping out forest fires in Canada!

Mary Page, the computer was trying to suggest the word gray for xray. I've  been trying the dictation app on my computer because my tremor gives me fits typing, but that's even worse. I said a prayer for Clio. I hope she recovers quickly and fully.

Jane, so glad the cataract surgery went well. I had mine about 4 or 5 yrs ago and I paid for the really good lens to avoid glasses, but it didn't cure my astigmatism and I still have to wear reading glasses that correct it.

Melanie is doing better for now. Her next CT scan is in 6 wks.  John is sick with a rotten cold which I hope I don't get. Both I and the nurse here tested him for Covid and it came back negative.

May newsletter is out today.  Jane, we made paper baskets also for May day, but no Maypole.  The French give gifts of Lily of the Valley on May Day. Muguet is the French word for Lily of the Valley.  It's still a big thing there. Supposed to bring happiness for the coming year.

Lori still hasn't found a new job.  Did I mention that Brian quit his job with the aerospace company he'd beenw with ffor 5 yrs and got a new job with Boeing in St. Louis. He is still working with simulators for the C=17.

Weather has been weird here too. Currently 64 with a heavy wind. I just got back from a walk and had to wear a jacket and hat.

Darlene, how's your son doing?

No other news here. Take care and stay safe.  Sharon[/size,/color,/b]

Good windy afternoon!  This constant 30-40+ mph is getting tiresome.  My sister flew home yesterday.  She said Cedar Rapids to Chicago  was bumpy, but bigger plane to Cleveland was better.  BIL picked her up and they had 1.5 hour drive home in rain and wind.  I sure appreciated her coming and driving and babysitting me.  I'm amazed how good my eyes are already.

I'm looking forward to a quiet week.

Stay safe and healthy.

Jane

It has been 5 years since I had a lumpectomy & I saw my oncologist for the final visit .  She said I didn't need to see her any more unless I would like to come in once a year .   My husband was with me & he agreed with me that I would just continue with the yearly mammogram & save the appt. time for someone who needs to see the dr.

MaryPage

FIVE YEARS!  CONGRATULATIONS!!

maryz

We love every one of those milestones!

Congratulations!!!

Congrats, Alpiner, on 5 years!

It's apparently decided to be spring here finally.  Two days of temps in high 70s/low 80s.
The bright sun is wonderful and the wind if minimal.

I got out for some basics...had to go to two grocery stores, but it's over and I'm home.

I like the Foster Grant sunglasses I found yesterday with plain[non-prescriptive]  lenses.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Another nice day and a Friday where I don't have to go to Iowa City for cataract surgery! :2funny:  ;D

I did get out to cut off some old hydragena(sp?) blossoms.  I still have more to do, but my back and legs said "STOP!" so I did!

Nothing new here....maybe some rain today thru Sunday.  That's ok...we need it.

Yesterday I included clothes shopping to my grocery shopping day .  After going to one  clothing store & finding nothing I did a little grocery shopping waiting for Penney's to open .  When I got to Penney's  I discovered it didn't open until 11:00 a.m.  I left the mall not wanting to wait a 1/2 hour .  So didn't find any new clothes . I went on to 3 other grocery stores before going home .  It was after 2:00 p.m. & I had no lunch .  Finally got home & was exhausted .

Welcome to the first of my May great-grandbabies. Lyndy Elizabeth was born at 5:30 this morning, coming in at a whopping 9 lbs, 6 oz!  Lyndy, parents, and big brother (age 3) are all doing well.

I haven't really done anything to speak of, and our weather is finally warming up with 36 presently. I did get out with friends last Wednesday for lunch and shopping, but that's about the extent of my social life.

We seem to be about two months behind weatherwise; we still have the odd small piles of grayed snow in yards or vacant lots.

Good morning...just back from my walk..had rain last night and more forecast..went to my Dr last week...don't have to go back for a year...happy about that..He added the blood pressure med..Bystolic 2.5 mg awhile back..is keeping. My B/P low..but have to watch for dizziness...hope everyone has a wonderful Mothers Day..and get to be with family..stay safe and well

jane

Darlene...Hurrah for you on now yearly visit with your doc.

It' a beautiful day here with a comfortable mid 70s temp.  We're forecast to go into 80s and rain in the next few days, so I was pleased my heat/cool guy came out this morning.  My bedroom wall conditioner was very dirty, and I can't get up to clean the filters.  He got them out for me and then worked on cleaning the outside unit and I got those filters washed.  I also asked him to do the one in my dining room, so that's all ready.  He told me about some customers who are in their 30s and 40s who are so demanding and rude.

Nothing exciting going on here.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

jane, isn't a shame that people are rude to anyone.  You'd think their mothers would have taught them better.

We welcomed my fourth! great-grandbaby yesterday morning. Frances (another girl - yea!) was born in SC and weighed 7'9".  The next one (a boy) is due in two weeks!  It's a "fertile month"  :smitten:

MaryPage

Congratulations, Mary.  My mother's name was Frances, so I quite approve.  Wow, glad I never gave birth to a nine plus pounder!  Ouch!  Hey, Galfriend, you'll never catch up with ME!  I have twenty-eight great grandchildren now!
'

maryz

MaryPage, I'll certainly never catch up with you. There may be one or two more along the way, but.....  who knows. It's certainly not my department!

I missed Alpiner's quest  for clothes. The hunt seems hopeless, so I've stayed with online at stores I trust.

Patricia...hope spring finds you soon.  It's to be 80s today.

Mary...wow, a baby harvest for you!

Darlene.glad you can get out!

I see my primary today at 1:30 after I drove myself to the ER for blood in the urine.  Apparently A bladder problem.  A
Urologist is the next doc getting added to my list. Booo!

Jane

Jane...always seems to be something...I find it harder to keep up with my house problems...and Dr visits...here it's hard to get anyone who wants to work....oh how I miss my husband....hope you get to feeling better soon

patricia19

Good morning, Jane; we're in the mid-forties for lows now, but starting today and through next weekend, we're to have more normal temperatures in the sixties and seventies.

alpiner1

I would shop for clothe on line but I like to feel the fabric before I buy .  Also I am just under 5ft. tall & so many tops look like night gowns on me .  Some of my tops are getting thread bare ! Many of the stores like Macy's & Sears have closed .  Finding a shoe store is bad too .  Our son can't find the Reeboks like he use to buy , the company was sold & the shoes aren't the same .

Since my retirement in 2013, I've donated most of my office clothes. Since then, I've only purchased jeans, long-sleeved tees, tennies, and leggings. I kept two pairs of nice dress pants, two lined silk blazers, one pair of black low heels, and three French cuff shirts in jewel tones. Since I rarely dress up these days, anything else seems superfluous.

I'm of average height, weight, and size, so I haven't needed to replace anything.
