Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Quiet around here, mostly.  Hot and humid for a few days and then hopefully rain.

I got out to the grocery stores for some groceries for a couple of days...bbq ribs, corn on the cob, and potato salad for tomorrow!

I'll watch fireworks on tv tomorrow.

Happy 4th!

I posted last night, but it must have disappeared into the stratosphere somewhere.
 Oh, well...

Greetings from Fort Morgan, AL. And Happy July 4!

We're having our annual week at the beach.  So far, the weather has been cooperative - storming overnight and with sunshine and a good breeze during the day.  The drive here on Saturday was awful for everybody, no matter whence they had come.  Margaret and I were last to arrive, with our usual 8-hour drive lasting 12 hours. Of course, she had to do all the driving. And it was 99 or 100 outside every time we had to make a pit-stop. Brutal!

But getting together with my daughters, son-in-law, three grands and spouses, and three great-grands (a 3-year-old and two 1-month-olds) has been terrific.  Getting to see the new babies and sort-of "know" them is very special. I'm not able to do more than hold them briefly, but at least they're not just photos in texts any more.

jane, have you had your eye surgery? Sharon, you've got a new fur-baby!!! Good to hear from Darlene and MaryPage.

I hope our trip home is easier than the one down.  I love seeing everybody and getting to eat all the good fresh seafood (so far shrimp, amberjack, grouper!), but this trip is getting pretty hard for me. And I hate having to inflict the extra work on those who "get" to help me. The grands are getting me to talk about things we did when they were youngsters, and that's fun for me - and for them, too, I hope.

I hope all have a good Fourth and some good weather!

Mary....enjoy Fort Morgan.  I hope the heat lets up for you all.

Yes, I had my cataract surgery the last two Fridays of April, so that's all over.  Now it's the cancer surgeries and healing periods.

It's suppose to be less humid tomorrow...very welcomed!

Hope everyone is hanging on.

MaryPage

Hi, Jane!  Hi, Mary!
I hope your trip WILL turn out to be better going back. I can understand the lure of family taking you off on such a hard ordeal, but I can flat out no longer do that, period.  I adore my family, but no longer see the granddaughters or the great grands.  We have decided it is a bad thing, and would most likely kill me, if these generations should gift me one of the germs the great grands are like to bring me from school or work, and most of the granddaughters still work and are exposed as well and all.
Oh well. I still see my children, as they take care of me.

I want to tell you about my latest passion, and no, it is not a handsome dude.  I have been binging on Endeavor for That!  What it is is a new ice cream flavor put out by Haagen-Daz.  Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle.  If you don't like it, you have really weird taste buds!  But I am a Virginian, and you may send me any pints of this you cannot abide.

Tomereader1

So, MaryPage, what did you think of the Final Episode of Endeavour?  I DVR'd it and have watched it 3 times already.  The entire Endeavour series was absolutely fantastic, cast, music, cinematography, story-lines. The ice cream sounds good, too!

MaryPage

I have watched each episode twice.  I find I see more the 2nd time around;  I do not know why that is.  Maybe I am more relaxed the 2nd time?  Whatever, after two times that is enough for me.

I watched all the Morse episodes years ago, and I generally dislike prequels that are written after the original, because these are confined to a certain plot from the git go.  We knew, for instance, when & how Morse would die, and so we did not sweat it during the prequels.  We knew he would never marry.  Bummer!
We knew him as a gorgeous young man, but then a rather ugly old one.  Double Bummer. And so it went.  I agree with you about the cast, etc.  It was a great, great series.  Probably the best ever.  Hope I have not spoiled it for anyone.

Oh, but DO try the ice cream!  Heaven!

maryz

Back home again.  The trip home wasn't quite as bad, but still really long.  It was fun to see the babies and adult grandchildren.  I have to admit this may be my last trip, though. Haven't said anything to my girls. We'll see how the year goes.  We already have our reservation for next summer.

The ice cream sounds yummy!!

Hi, Mary and MaryPage and Tomereader!  I can sure understand what you all mean about long car trips and visits with others.  My SIL (Ray's oldest sister) will be 100 the end of July and her remaining daughter is having a luncheon for her....in Chicago.  There will be her great grand babies, etc. there, and I've told her I can't make it.

I can no longer do those long 5-6 hour trips without a lot of stops and I don't want to be exposed to the germs from that many people before this next cancer surgery on Aug. 10.  I also don't want to be around/involved in all the drama her grands have all the time....poor "A has no money, etc., but she's going off to Africa with her boyfriend."  HUH!  In my day that took $$$., so grumpy "Aunt Jane" will stay home and safe.

Enough of my whining!  The days here are much more bearable with temps in the 70s and low 80s.

Enjoy that new fur baby, Sharon!!

Take care and stay safe.

We have a right and a duty to take up for ourselves and our comfort levels at our age!  Scheesch!

I do not travel.  At all anymore.  I am taken care of by my 8 children.  Not only can I continue to enjoy my own home, but they cook my favorite things for me.  I no longer see the 13 granddaughters or the 28 great grands.  Their infections might kill me now.  I do see the children, and take my chances.  They have no desire to kill me, and they no longer work or attend schools.  I do not attend weddings or funerals.  I only go out to medical appointments, with a few exceptions.  Granddaughter Judith is coming to show her two boys Washington and Annapolis next month, and I will see those 4 as an exception.  They live in St. Louis, Missouri.  The visit will be very brief.

I was just reading a familiar story in today's THE CAPITAL.  Our newspaper is called The Capital because Annapolis is not just the home of our United States Naval Academy, but Annapolis is also the Capital of the great little state of Maryland.
After slavery was abolished but blacks and whites were severely segregated, the land & waters I am looking at this very moment made up a couple of beaches known as Carr's Beach and Sparrow's Beach. Please do not look these up until After I have told you this whole story.  The reason being I do not want to spoil my delicious ending.  I have laughed and laughed about this for simply years  now, but it just occurred to me to let you in on the joke since I just read it again in today's paper.
Whites thought the important place to be was on the Severn River, which runs off the bay just around the corner from me.  There you will find the Academy and Annapolis Harbor and so forth and so on.  So Carr's & Sparrow's beaches went unappreciated by the white community and were peopled by the black community.  They enjoyed their bay views, and invited their own entertainment to come down to this unknown and unappreciated place with the incredible views.  They came, deed they did!  Sarah Vaughn came.  So did Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.  You may Google the Rest of the Story now, while I sit here and giggle.  The riverside bunch felt ever so superior, whilst some of this world's all time greatest stars played on those bay beaches.  Don't you just LOVE it!
Now the Federal Government and the State and the County and the City have put their funds together and they are going to revitalize what is left of those beaches in this one large lot I look out upon.  They will tell the whole story, which includes many. many more famous entertainers.  You or your children may wish to drop by one day.  You will not have to pity the poor black community.  They never felt you should anyway.  The Joyous sounds coming from here back in the day would have pulled you off the river, could you have heard them!

The Chesapeake Bay literally cuts the State of Maryland in two.  Google that.  I live in a community facing the bay that is called Chesapeake Harbour.  Some of our land is made up of what was once Carr's Beach and some of it was Sparrow's Beach.  A large lot, right next to my place, is not yet developed.  I look out on that very fully green and treed lot and on a section of the bay that is to die for.  Seriously.  Mary Z has paid me a visit here, and will swear to it.

MaryPage

OK, go ahead and Google "Carr's Beach. Annapolis Maryland"

maryz

Didn't know the background, MaryPage, but it is a lovely area. Just watching the water and all the boats would keep me permanently occupied.

MaryPage

Thank you, Mary.  That is just what I do, and I don't wish to leave here until I am taken out feet first.

If you feel up to stopping by again, the door is open and the kettle's on.

MaryPage...what a delightful tale from the past of your beautiful area.

Nothing exciting here.  I'm to see 3 docs on Thurs.  2 in CR...same office...and one in Dubuque...a 35 minute drive.  That should be interesting! ::)

jane

jane

Ahhhhh, the "blessed rain," as my sister-in-law always says.  And it is.  We had thunder and lighning most of the hours after midnight and the rain continues to gently fall.  It is so needed here and this is just the perfect way....long hours of gentle rain.  I hope it lasts all day.

There's nothing else new here....I'll be away much of tomorrow...on the road to docs' of various kinds.   ::)  ::)  ::)

Take care and stay safe,

jane

I was sorry to read Tisie's obituary from July 8.  It's above if you knew Tisie.

I decided in the dead of night to cancel my 3rd doc appt today.  The "weird thing" has dropped off somewhere, so it appears to be healing.  Years ago my dermatologist said if it "falls" off, don't worry about it!  I also didn't want to race from CR to Dubuque to make the 4 pm appt after two office visits in CR.

That's all the excitement from here in corn and pig country   :2funny:

So sorry to hear about Shirley. She and I "met" online, discussing a driving trip to Alaska. We met in person, having lunch, when we drove through Kansas on one of our trips. We kept in touch on the old SeniorNet and then when we moved to Seniors and Friends. My condolences to her family and the fur-family she left behind.

And, BYT, jane, have you heard anything about Sue lately?

Glad you've been able to "dispose" of one of your doctor appointments!

No, Mary, I haven't.  I think, though, that Tim and brothers are taking good care of her.  I think that those of us who knew her and had met her agree that she needed to be somewhere safe.

I'm so glad I canceled the 3rd doc yesterday.  I was exhausted when I got home from the two.
One  I don't have to see for a year; the other in 2 months.

It is so hot and humid today.  I ran out to WalMart for a few things for the weekend and it's hard to breathe outside.

Stay safe and healthy, Buddies!

AND, it's Monday morning again.  It's a quiet one here in Iowa, AND the sky is clearer.  We had a lot of Canadian smoke over the weekend.

Nothing exciting here today.  Same ol' same ol'   :2funny:

I'm still on oxygen & my husband has been trying to get a prescription from our dr. to get a smaller travel size oxygen concentrator fpr me .  He called the dr. last Friday & yesterday .  When I want to move to another room the machine needs to be moved & both our backs are hurting from disconnecting & moving the machine .  If we had two machines it would be less wear & tear on our bodies .

diglady

Alpiner, Hi. I too am on Oxygen-now for 8 years.
Inogen is the company I use for the Oxygen converters. They provide me with a stand alone unit and a portable one.
I have a 25 foot connector to the stand alone and that means I can reach most areas of my home. There are longer cannulas too. I have a 50 foot for outside.
I have 3 and 7 foot cannulas for the portable.
For the portable Inogen provides cords for recharging batteries in the Car and at home.
They provide the cannulas and I order them as I need them.
Medicare is the provider.

Inogen Phone Number> 877-466-4364

jane

Thanks, DigLady!

Alpiner....we got two concentrators when Ray needed so much oxygen.  And long enough cords that he could still be on oxygen upstairs.  With one upstairs and one downstairs and the long tubes, it worked.  I had to use the oxygen canisters...they brought me 12 a week...when I had to take him out for chemo or doc appts.  I ordered him a portable from Inogen but we had to pay for it.  It wasn't, however, sufficient for his needs, so we returned it within their return limit.

It's quite a "game" to find out what is available and get it delivered.  They first told me he'd have to stay upstairs to be on oxygen.  NO, NO, NO.  I talked to another person and we got it worked out.

It's been quite mild weather wise and it's a joy compared to the SW and CA.  The smoke from Canada is less today.

Stay healthy and safe.  I'm off to lunch with two women we used to travel with in our travel club.

The Inogen concentrators I have can only deliver up to 5 liters of O2 so if more is need than Inogen can't help. But you can get longer cannulas so ypu don't have to move machines.

Mine delivers about the same amount of  oxygen .   The cannulas are about 6ft . long .  Our house is long  & I try to figure out far I can go without disconnecting the cannulas .

I need a smaller oxygen concentrator also so I can take it when I'm away from home by myself .  The one I have is too heavy for me to lift .

MaryPage

I, too, am on oxygen full time.  I have a stand alone and 6 canisters.  Because I see a Pulmonologist, they do the ordering and all the paperwork.  I have great insurance, and don't pay a penny.  I am on their list to receive one of the personal ones.  My husband died of congestive heart disease, and he had a lovely light weight one on all the time at the end.  My congestive heart disease will probably be what does me in, as well and all.

I find the planet of today so different in a myriad ways from the one I raised my children in.  My great grandchildren have all gone to baby & toddler care, which includes schooling.  I got so tickled this week.  Her school has asked to put Cleo ahead by one class!  Cleo will turn two in November, and she has only been in 2 classes thus far.  But they want to promote her!  What a world!

DigLady....Yep, that's why I had to return the portable oxygen concentator.  Ray needed up to 15 whatevers.  It'd be ideal for someone on 5 or less.

MaryPage...Medicare was great here, too, and no cost for the various oxygen things....except when I wanted one of the small portables for Ray...even though it turned out he couldn't use it.

It takes a while to navigate the medical world of "needs."....oxygen, cannulas, tubing, and accompanying "furniture"...shower chairs, transfer chairs, etc.

I did get out for a brief walk this morning...first in months.  It's to be in 90s next week, and I won't be out walking in that!

Time to make a run to get some "dessert" for tomorrow night after dinner out with our little group.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Saturday greetings, Friends!

I made a run out to "the farm" where they sell "picked that day" corn on the cob.  One group of 3 was there loading up on 4 doz and she said she'll freeze some and again later in the season.

I was hoping for some women's world cup soccer today, but the times in AU make it hard to watch. I did see a bit of the US vs Vietnam match.  US won 3-0.

Take care and we're bracing for a week of 90 plus temps.
