Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Good morning, a late start today as I had some necessary phone calls including much too long time wasted on holds, plus meet and greets and general household chores.

Farrah has become quite demanding since she knows I have treats again, and now she's decided she only likes salmon for a wet food. She's not happy because while I've changed the amount from a morning tablespoon to a teaspoon of wet food. I am still cycling through all the wet food. She always has dry food and fresh daily water.

This morning I found another bag of apples outside my door. I took it back to the giver and told her, I meant it when I said no more. If she continues, I will no longer be available to accept her packages.

Meet and greets had a number of people not feeling well. A couple of colds and general disenchantment with the temperatures cold one day and warm the next with snow or ice and repeat.

Last night, between ten and midnight, both the University and the city had their solstice fireworks display. The arctic solstice is a big deal here, celebrating the return of more light until the summer solstice's almost 24/7 daylight and those festivities. Then after that, around three AM, someone here set off the fire alarm, necessitating a firetruck coming with the keys to turn it off and go to the man's apartment to see if he was okay.

The alarms here are very sensitive, which is noted both in our leases and when shown the apartment. And the fact that, in the vestibule, is a large digital panel with lights showing where the alarm originated for the fire/police. It's also the first place disgruntled, sleep-deprived folks look when herded out of their warm beds and down to that foyer.

Barb, you wouldn't like it here as I live in a valley surrounded by foothills and four mountain ranges. We have at times had lows of minus seventies to highs of over one hundred. Of course, since climate change, we rarely go that low or that high. This city is also the hub for the Interior, and for both oil/gas drilling and gold mining. It was founded in 1901 as a gold rush town and is now a hub for oil, military, and tourism.

I spent two years in San Antonio, most of that time pregnant, but enjoyed my time there. My husband at the time was in Vietnam.

BarbStAubrey

Wow that would be a lot of temperature change to adapt to - and as long as I have the choice you are so right I would not enjoy living where you have made your home - how did you get to the area in the first place - were y'all stationed nearby and just stayed? Does not sound like this was your childhood home or am I wrong - where in Alaska are you located, what nearby city - I'd love to make a Google map visit.

patricia19

With two husbands, various military bases and organizations, I have been in 46 states, Mexico and western Canada, after the Vietnam War, I only wanted to return home to Fairbanks.

I have photos, but evidently the formatting has changed, and I am unable to post them.

That's not me. I live a few hoots and hollers East of Jane --- Just North of NYC in Yonkers. Right on the East side of the Hudson River. Our weather here seems to follow close to what Jane gets. Were running pretty much at or below freezing for a while.

Hello, You All!  This has been "one of THOSE days!  I came home from church and found a BIG box on the porch.  My ride friend helped me move it inside and then she left.  It had daughter Cindy's name on it and I texted her to ask about it.  She told me I should open it but I held off a bit because it was sort of heavy.  She said it was my Christmas present fro her and my son who lives here.  I finally got curious and I started to work on it.  I had it out of the box and it turns out it's a replacement wicker settee for my front porch.  It's to replace the one out there that's falling apart.Cathy came over in tme to move the box to the shed until we have a chance to put it together and we know we have all the parts so we don't have to think about sending it back.  I love the brown color of the wicker and the working picture looks pretty neat!

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  Cooper will be here tomorrow a bit before 7 and I'm going to welcome the company!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  Make the day yours in every way.  And don't forget to let us know how you did that.  We might want to try it out!

Jane, what a wonderful gift for you!!

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, and happy birthday, Callie! I hope it's one of your best, along with the following year! 🎂🍨🍬

I left those photos, re Bubble, for Barb as she had questions about my hometown.

Amy, we're at 13 presently, but due to drop below soon. This month has been two or three days above, then two or three days below. January and February have been notorious for frigid weather, but we'll see.

Amy

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas.. :snowball:  :snowman:
I will have a dance with Mr SB in the morning, he is already gassed up and ready to go.

Deliveries made, cheescake made, laundry done and me too! Putting my feet up for a bit..

Where is Miss Jane???

Thanks to each of you for the bday wishes.

Family celebration and Christmas are both "on hold". Ellen flew home on Friday and was diagnosed positive for flu on Saturday.
She is better and, if nobody else feels sick,we'll celebrate Christmas with brunch at #1 son's and bday dinner on Thursday at other son's.
I'm spending "my" day in the recliner reading and playing Solitare on my Tablet.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CALLIE!  I SURE HOPE IT WAS YOUR BEST ONE YET!

And hello to Everyfriend!  I was busy today and didn't make it in here!  I hope you all had a great day.  I got a lot of stuff done.  And tomorrow is going to be a busy day, too.  Grandson Kyle and his wife, Tori will be at daughter, Cathy's and I've been invited to join them for a late Brunch.  They are leaving around 1 to return to the Philadelphia area to spend Christmas Eve with Tori's family.

I don't know if I'll make it in here tomorrow.  We shall see.  If I don't, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hannukah.  Bubble says this is the first time in many years that they are on the same day!

I'm off to hit the haystack now because I have to be up and attem in the Morning!  Make your day great!

Good Morning Everyfriend and Happy Christmas Eve.  Also, Happy Hannukah Eve!

They are picking me up later this morning and I need to get myself organized.  Lots to remember today and I must admit that my memory lets me down sometimes.  I've had my breakfast and it's time to put the bedroom back together and hit the shower.  Then I must decide what I need to take with me for the rest of the day with family and a 4 o'clock church service.

I have to hit the shower because I'm getting a face time call from my daughter in Oklahoma and it's going to include the whole family,,,kids included!  I'm looking forward to that.  If I can't see them, talking is next best!

I wish you all one of the best days of your life both today and tomorrow (just in case I don't make it back in.  And Christy and her hubby will be arriving the day after Christmas.  So more fun and busies!

25ish and snowing here. Should be stopping soon, but enough to make driving a bit of a hazard. Hope everyone slows down, but City drivers often don't know about that.

Tornado watch here this afternoon - sky looks ominous - dark and brooding - off the phone with Paul and Sally and they have another 2 hours to go - looks like they will come in less than the 9 hours but for sure more than 8 - they sighted lots of DPS and so feel good the roads are being kept safe. Just waiting for the late night TV when Christmas is featured on most channels. Not really hungry think I will heat up some soup and have a few crackers with chive cheese... have a good evening...
