Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hi Gals, sounds like all this hot, humid weather everywhere is producing lots of severe storms. Last night's here just skirted us and gave us only a light rain or sprinkle for a few minutes. Hot again today, but not quite as bad, only projected at 90.

I've been to church and SS. We stopped for gas on the way home. Do your grocery stores sell gas debit cards for discounted prices?  We buy a $50 card for $40 at our regular grocery (HT). Of course you have to spend a certain amount in order to qualify, but that's no problem for us since I shop there regularly.  Our gas was down to $1.95 today. Whoo Hoo!

I've put a load of towels in to wash and eaten my lunch, but probably won't do much else.

Marilyn, your town festivities sound like fun.

Jane, you are so good about getting your walks in despite the heat!

Jeanne, hope you got your errands run.

Mary Page, how cute for Alex.  They do  a lot of fun things for kids that they never used to.

Another horror in Joy's Baton Rouge!  Will it ever stop?
Sharon

Thank you Jane. Darlene

jane

Sharon...no discount cards like you mention here.  At one grocery in CR, you can get a "fuel saver" card to buy at a discount at their pumps.  It doesn't pay for us to bother.  Sam's Club, too, has discounted prices, but again...it's 70 miles away round trip.  Our gas here locally is 2.09 today.

Time to get off the computer and do some reading, I think.

jane

maryz

Sharon, We have a Walmart card which gives us a 5-10 cent discount at their pumps and a rebate on all purchases on the bill.  On our way home through AL, gas prices were from $1.76-1.79 everywhere we went.  I guess local taxes make the difference.

Hot here, but no storms - at least not yet.  I've gotten my laundry done, but nothing much else today.  With no house maintenance, of course, there's no backup stuff to do.  8^)

These shootings are awful.  Saturday, Chattanooga marked the one-year anniversary of the attack here on the Navy recruitment office and the Navy/Marine Reserve Center - five servicemen killed.  Such a sad day and remembrance, but the city has cherished the families and the new slogan "Chattanooga Strong!".

I guess I'll be getting back into the usual routine tomorrow.

Molly, Some folks were talking on SeniorLearn about having been over here, and letting others know that they had to reregister after the crash several months ago.  AdoAnnie was particularly looking for "Persian".  I told her you were over here and using "Molly" now.  I hope she comes looking for you.

Someone also posted that Radioman Don and So'p Bubble were engaged - and that's exciting.  So congratulations are in order to those folks - and much happiness!

SharonE

Mary, so glad you are safely home and have the usual vacation laundry caught up.  My memories on FB showed my picture of support for the Chattanooga Marines.  So much violence. And it continues on.

I fell asleep for a while at my computer. I guess it is the tremor pills that are making me so sleepy. Always some side effect.

Good for the engaged couple! I wish them much happiness.

I can't believe you missed their announcement; seems like several weeks ago now, at least.  It had me rolling around laughing!  Much discussion back and forth at the time, too, as to where they were going to live.

maryz

Don't know where I was, MaryPage.  Where ARE they going to live?  LOL
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Where was that announcement?

MaryPage

Oh, I would have guessed it was in here, but since you ask, I guess it must not have been.  Probably Norm's Bait & Tackle, then.  I mean, it had to have been, n'est pas?  I only POST in Bosom Buddies and Norm's.  Wonderful announcement with an obviously older couple holding hands and jumping off the end of a pier into a lake.
Seems neither can move to and live permanently in either Canada or Israel.  So they will visit back and forth.  Unconventional, but needs must, and terribly romantic.  I mean, LOVE does, indeed, conquer all!  I get a huge smile all through and over me when I think about them.

Morning!

Quiet day planned here.  It looks as if the storms skipped around us last night and this morning.

Have a good Monday.

joyous

Jane and All: Yesterday was, to say the least, terrible.  There were 3 dead--2 police officers, and 1 Sheriff deputy.
The shooter supposedly was found and also died.  Everyone
in BR was at a "stay at home and off the streets" order before finding the shooter.  The streets in BR were almost
completely devoid of cars ----a sight hardly ever seen here.Authorities think there was only 1 shooter.
JOY

jane

JOY...it's beyond sad and troubling.  And, the guy was from Kansas City, it seems.  What a terrible thing all this violence is.  I saw somewhere, a group who was going to protest were talked into doing a BBQ, with police invited.  That seems like a much saner way to try and calm things down and establish some communication and caring among both groups!

JeanneP

Jane. Storms you say missed you but they are hitting us. Was bad last night and storming now. Dark as night.  Naturally I need to go out soon as it starts to clear. Between the heat and storms I am not enjoying this summer at all.

Had to call the ENT finaly today. Keep loosing my voice and sore throat so it needs checking out. The Sinus Meds not taking care of it.  Still have to wait until Aug. 8 or keep checking for a Cancellation there.
JeanneP

SharonE

Jane, I agree that the barbecue is a much better idea.  They have had a number of similar type get-togethers in the past couple of years here in Charlotte. All of the protests, so far, have been peaceful. I pray it stays that way.

Joy, I'm sending prayers for peace and reconciliation in your city.  It is so awful. I thought that when the son of the slain black man pleaded for peace and a stoppage of the violence that maybe it would carry some weight.  Stay safe.

The storms skipped us too last night. It got quite dark and threatening but then nothing happened. Jeanne, I hope they clear off for you.  Have you thought about going to a Minute Clinic at CVS to see if the nurse there can help you.  Aug is a long time to wait.

Don & Bubble, I've heard of long-distance romances, but I think you two take the prize! Best wishes to you both.

Nothing happening here. Stripped the bed & have the sheets in the wash. My back actually feels fairly good this morning. Who knows why. I sure hope it stays that way.  We will see when I get up on my feet for a while longer.  Hi to all.  Sharon

Marilyn

Good morning I just went over to the place where the Yoga class is and no class today. However, I will be going to Tai c/hi this afternoon. Keith and I took Freckles for an early morning walk. She seemed to be an bit slow today compared to  how she usually walks. She usually wants to be ahead and take me for a walk bujt lately she has been at "Heel" for the last few  days.

I bet you girls must get tired of me talking about Freckles all the time huh?

It rained here this morning, not for long though. When I got the animal's food ready I went to the door to call the two cats that e=were outside. There was Harry the long haired one, sitting in the rain at the end of the driveway. What a wet cat.

MaryPage

Speaking just for myself, Marilyn, I never get tired of hearing about Freckles.  Wonderful dog who does so much good for people.  Always lovely to hear of such heart warming events.

maryz

There were strong showers in our area last night, but none at my place.  Today, there were none where I was, but obviously were some here at home.  Obviously they are small and scattered, if strong when you're under one of the cells.  We're supposed to have temps near 100 by the end of the week.  Yuck!

Sharon, have you decided what you're going to do yet?

Marilyn, we enjoy hearing about all your activities.

Back into the routine for me today.  I went to swimming and coffee, then some errands.  Early voting for our state-wide party primaries and county general elections started last week.  I cast my ballot this morning.   At bridge I had a few good hands, but mostly just routine stuff.  For some reason, Uncle Arthur really decided to act up on me this afternoon.  Just about all the parts were achy and stiff.  I didn't even go up to dinner when I got home.  I made some egg salad, and just had that on crackers - along with some pain medicine.  I'll probably get to bed early, too.  Hope tomorrow is better.

Happy Monday, Buddies!

Saw the endocrinologist today. He upped my insulin a bit and suggested I see my GP for the swollen feet. He didn't think it was diabetes related.

The world seems to be going to hell in a hurry.

I am feeling melancholy this evening. Really missing Doug.  :'(

SharonE

Mary, all these weather fronts and storms going through are playing havoc with my arthritis also. I hurt in every joint and muscle.  Not fun.  No rain yesterday but supposed to be some today. Up to 98 for the weekend.  Yuck!  Now, what were we complaining about last January?!   :D

Marilyn, always glad to hear about Freckles.

Ginny Ann, I hope the insulin increase helps, but I agree that you should see your internist. Lots of hugs.

Not much going on here. My last load of laundry in and that's about it.  Sharon

MaryPage

I almost answered Mary last night to chime in with "me, too!"  But I have slowed down my responses to anything and everything.  This balloon of oppressively hot, humid heat brings me to an almost motionless state of being;  truly comparable to molasses in January!
Will putter around in my air conditioned aerie until Becky & Debi pick me up at two thirty to go to a three o'clock Happy Hour and dive into a delicious marguerita.
But Sharon and Mary, this heat and humidity make my arthritis scream at me from every possible joint.  Fingers are the worst, since I need them most; but feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows:  they're all OW! OW! OW!  Oh, I tell you!  Three o'clock cannot get here fast enough!

jane

Me, three!

The heat and humidity are building again...heat advisory already issued for Thurs and Fri when temps to be in high 90s and heat index in the 110 range. WHEW!

We walked earlier and my old joints were not happy about it.  I cut my walk short and came home.

Load of laundry is in, AC is on, and we're hermits for the rest of the day, except for my needing to water my new landscaping plants and going out for Taco Tuesday later this afternoon.

The landscapers finished yesterday...tore out everything on the south side of the house and planted all new.  It really looks nice...more hydrangeas ...Vanilla Strawberry and a Pinky Winky! ;) and a pine and some new spirea that turns yellow in the fall and some low flowering grass and catmint and a couple large hostas.   We have one small corner by the fence and they'll do that this fall.

Off to water new plants!

jane

jane, your yard is/will be looking so pretty.  I'm just happy with all my neighbor's plantings and the crepe myrtles blooming nearby.

We're having a lovely rain that started about 30 minutes ago  I hope it keeps up all afternoon - but probably not likely.

I slept until 8:30!!! this morning.  And then blew off my two Tuesday morning activities.  I didn't get dressed until it was time to go up for lunch.  And now I'm here on the computer, listening to one of the music channels, and watching it rain.  Sweet!

Good morning from the left coast. I am really hurting this morning. I was really hurting Sunday after walking in  the parade on Saturday. I was OK yesterday and back to hurting today it is my lower back. I took a 15mg Meloxicam already and I'm thinking about rubbing on some of the Cannabis  and Peppermint  massage oil to get some instant relief.

This afternoon Freckles and I go to the library for the Children's reading hour. There were only 5 kids there last month with no others waiting their turn. They usually read for 20 minutes then another group comes in; during the school year there are more children coming to read to the dogs. We usually take 3 or 4 dogs only. Last Month freckles didn't have anyone to read to her until almost the end when the kids changed dogs.

jane

The rains just started here, too, and it's very dark out there! Lots of thunder and lightning, too.

Marilyn....I hope Frecles gets somebody to read to her today!  Poor puppy needs a story.

Jane

SharonE

Sounds like Uncle Arthur is visiting us all simultaneously!  I think Mary Page has the best remedy--go out for Margaritas!!  Sounds wonderful.

Jane, your plantings sound wonderful. I love hydrangeas and mine have done so well this year that I am able to keep a bouquet of them on my bar top most of the time.  I've seen pics in the magazines of the 2 you planted.  When they bloom next year, you will have to post a picture.

Mary, glad you're getting a nice rain and that you were able to sleep in.  Why not?!

Had to chuckle at Jane's comment on Freckles needing to get his story time too. :)

I'm not accomplishing a thing today.  Guess I'll go stretch out and finish my book. Sharon

MaryPage

We sat outside at Cooper's Hawk yesterday afternoon.  Becky and Chip each had TWO of their huge margueritas; Debi and I only one each.  We had four different platters of appetizers, and we all four voted the spring rolls the best.  They feature half price hors d'oeuvres between three and five.  I got quite tiddley.
Alas, Becky's visit is over and she is winging it back to Kansas City as I type.  Debi had to go to her mother in laws bedside this morning and catch the visit of the Hospice nurse, so she brought Becky here and we had a short visit and Chip took her to BWI (Baltimore Washington International Airport).
This is great granddaughter Emma's 4th birthday today.  She is one of my favorites;  she is such an IT girl!  Emma lives in Oklahoma in a suburb of Oklahoma City called Yukon.  She is granddaughter Angela's only child.  Angela is a favorite, too.
We are expecting some really high temps for the whole coming week, so I will just hunker down at home and do an awful lot of nothing.  I have a real talent for that.  Bet I can accomplish more nothing in a day than ANY of you can!
Hugs to my sister cancer survivors!

JeanneP

Today it is going up to 96 deg they say. Already 89. I think staying in the house is getting to me.  Going to start complaining and Sending Letters to the Editor of our local paper. See that my number one appears today.http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/letters-editor/2016-07-19/heres-new-one-stickers-mail.html
JeanneP

jane

We don't get notices here at all, either. It's up to the car owner to know when the plates expire.  We can, however, buy the plates...or usually stickers...here at the County Court House.  That's where we can renew our drivers' licenses, too, and there are no reminders about that either.  The licenses now take longer because of some Homeland Security thing...and they come mailed out from the State in DesMoines.  The local gives you a paper copy, good for a month, I think it is.

We made the doc run early to Dubuque and hit rain four times.  Back home it's cleared and the temp is rising fast.

I played bridge; we had 8 and I came in 3rd, so not too bad.  Got my .25 back!

Tonight is the Methodist Church supper, so we're going with neighbors and will fill up on "Maid Rite" sandwiches, sides and homemade desserts.

Back to sit in the cool and watch the convention, I guess.
