Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hello All: Thousands and Thousands still flooded out of their
homes here.  It's SO sad!
We had a very nice lunch today here at Williamsburg Retirement Senior Living-to celebrate Labor Day.  We had
BBQ ribs (delicious), potato salad, baked beans, corn on cob, and chocolate chip cookies (we usually have pie).

Glad to hear you're safe and sound (and eating well) at your retirement place, Joy.  How are your kids doing?  I hope they're making some progress on recovery.  I see LA is still getting intermittent rains.  Tough stuff!

Just saw the most Amazing documentary biography on PBS.  I know, I know;  this is a breast cancer buddies forum and NOT the what is on television forum.  But I feel so close to each of YOU guys now, and not anyone else, and when I get enthusiastic about something, I want to share it with you as though you were all my sisters.
Well, probably a lot of you are into fashion.  Me, I never have been.  What I am wearing does not concern me other than that it be comfortable and cover me up decently.  So I have never paid any attention to anything about fashion.  I have been known to attend a few, and believe me, as few as possible, very local fashion shows in the name of charity;  often to see a family member who modeled some outfit or other.  But I have never been to a Real fashion show put on by a designer.  Just not my world.
So tonight I sat through nearly an hour and a half of a POV (Point of View) documentary about a woman named Iris Apfel, who is older than even I, and apparently a biggie in the world of fashion.  Not a big name designer, but a setter of fashion.  She puts outfits together and adds a lot of costume jewelry.  The colors and the shapes and sizes just blew me away!  Not at all artistic myself, I do love color.  Bottom line, if you see POV Iris listed on your PBS schedule, do stop and watch it.  I think you will be utterly, utterly fascinated.  I was!

Thanks, Bubble - what fun!

Another lovely morning, sitting out on the deck.  The back is much better today - just the usual background achy stuff.  I saw the orthopedist this morning, and will be scheduled for one (possibly both) knee replacement in midOctober.  They can't get me a firm date until near the end of September, but the process is underway.  Right now I'm down for only the left knee, but if the right one starts acting up, he says he can add it a day or so ahead of time  (Gee thanks!).  Then I got to have lunch with my friend Missy who was on her way through town - always a special treat!  And back into the regular routine this evening.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies.  The orthopedist was on call over the holiday weekend and said he has seen 10 broken hips during that time.  Glad it wasn't one of us!

Joy...thanks for checking in so we know you're safe!

Maryz...glad the back is better.

Bubble...Thank you.

MP....we can talk about anything here we're interested in!

It's so blasted hot and humid here today....storms for tonight, I'm sure.

Sure don't like being outside, so got my errands done and now I'm in for the rest of the day.  Cars are in the garage in case of hail or high winds.

SharonE

Yes, Mary, glad to hear that. Good that you've got the knee surgery in the works. Will you go to a rehab afterwards or to one of your girls'?  You will need someone with you for at least 2 weeks. I couldn't believe how handicapped I felt when I had my partial one done. That's not to scare you, but to prepare you.  If you can work on strengthening your quadriceps between now and then, it will help immeasurably.

I went to the ATM, to the vet to get flea preventative pills, to the grocery for a couple things, and then to the beauty shop to get my hair cut. I was really getting shaggy.  All those places are in a strip shopping center that opens into Sun City so very convenient.  After I got home and rested a while, I made a banana bread for John to take up to his sister. It's in the oven now.  I've taken 2 pain pills today and am hurting big time again. I think it is Lean Cuisine for dinner. I just can't be on my feet any longer.

My cleaning girl comes tomorrow and I have to go in for a blood draw at 9:15.

Lori is back at work for the first time today since her concussion. She said working on the computer was giving her a headache though.

Nothing else going on here.  Sharon

maryz

Glad Lori's back to work, Sharon.  I hope she continues to take it easy for a few more days, at least.

I'll probably be going to a rehab facility for a period of time.  The current plan is for Jean to come here and stay with me for a while after that.  I'll be able to get some "post-rehab" PT here at the Terrace, if need be. All this will depend on how I do, whether I have one or both knees done, etc.  I appreciate your input.  Keep taking it easy.

JeanneP

MaryZ.  I think my daughter is down to have one knee done October 7th.  I have had friends do both at the same time. Most doctors will not do that.  I think also your size has a lot to do with how well the surgery goes. I worked with one who had both hers at same time. Did really well. Seemed to only take her vacation time. Now she is getting her hip replaced this month.  That also seems to happen. Get one place done and after awhile need another area.  I sure try to watch my climbing around anymore. Hate to get started. Just my Thumbs at the moment.

Rain on and off today, and that was suppose to take the humidity and "mugginess" away....NOT SO MUCH!! :2funny:   It's really uncomfortable out there.

Bridge was fun...I came in 2nd of the 11 players, so can afford to go back for a couple of weeks.

Ray's come down with a nasty cold and so we'll be staying close to home for the next couple of days which works well for me with the computer work I'm doing at the moment.

jane

jane

I'm up early to work on the computer project I'm working on and my poor old shoulders feel the strain of the last days on the computer so much.

I guess the storms missed us again, but we did have rain off and on most of yesterday which will make the farmers happy as harvest time will soon be coming and they want dry then.  Some areas north of us were to get another 5-6 inches.

Happy Thursday to you in your corner of the world.

I'm just home from the optometrist (regular appointment) - mostly just a few little age-related problems, but nothing significant.  Except for the development of a secondary cataract in one eye.  That'll require a laser treatment sometime soon.  I've had that before, and it's no big deal.  I go back tomorrow for the second part of the exam (they can't do these at the same time - insurance stuff), but then I'm through for another six months.  Patch, patch, patch!

Almost weekend time, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

MaryPage

Oh, Mary, you've sure got that right!  That's just what I always describe it as: patch, patch, patch.  And I've had that 2nd cataract on the lens business, as well.  Strangely (to my way of looking at it), only one eye.  The subsequent laser surgery IS a piece of cake.
Glorious day here on the bay, except that our heat and humidity have returned.  Bummer, that, but the world here is beyond beautiful.  And it is around 90°, and not near or at 100°.  The pots full of geraniums are flourishing, Eastport is bustling, and all's right with Chesapeake Country!

MaryPage.  I  still have a pair of glasses like those. Fact have 2 pairs. One is tri Level from when working. I still only use glasses for close work.   I had my cataracts done at least 10 years ago. He never mentions having any Laser treatment . I know they are no longer as good as when first had the cataract surgery. Get dry eye a lot. I go in every 6 months now.

Like Jane says.  this rain  will make the Mid West farmers happy. They should have a good year I think.  Not heard them complaining as much as usual.

Still trying to get all my computer things back to working. Spent a lot of time. Still not connecting right with Desktop to IPad. or to Tablet.Tablet O.K with its just the E-Mails between the Desktop and IPad messed up.I don't have the patience to work on the Phone with Apple right now.

Feels so good here right now.  Having heavy rains. They say it is 83 deg but feels cooler. I turned AC of and have window open. Get some air into the house.

JeanneP

jane

Nice here but still hot and humid...now it's tomorrow when it's to get better....but storms tonight and tomorrow again, too.

I did walk and was glad to get back home...

I have my days mixed up today...keep thinking it's Friday.

Hi Gals, I was up until 3 or so this AM, so slept in till nearly 11!!!  But John left at 6:30 Am & just gave me a kiss goodbye, so didn't really wake me up. He called later and said he was at a rest stop in Knoxville, so expecting him to call from Melanie's before long.

I just got back from the grocery. With the help of a pain pill beforehand, I was able to do it with a regular cart and didn't start hurting too bad till I was finished. The only problem was that I had to carry it all in myself and put it away. Usually John carries it all in and unloads the bags so that it is easy for me to get it all put away wwith minimum effort.  Oh well, done for another week.

I haven't had to have cataract surgery yet but suppose it is in my future.

It's really hot and humid here and to continue through the weekend, then to start coming down in temps and possible rain.

Jane, hope Ray gets over his cold quickly.  Good for you getting out and walking.

Mary, that's what my brother said--After 50 or so, it's just patch, patch, patch!!   :tickedoff:

Well I took my new car in  for routine maintenance and lo and behold it is time for the timing belt to be replaced, This is the bad part, they have also to  replace the radiator and water pump. to the tune of 1200$. Thhey also found a vacuum leak and they have to run  a test to find out where that is. Well all in all the bill will be about 1500$. Today they changed the oil and did the inspection and  ran the test to check it out, that is how they found out there is a vacuum leak,  leaky radiator etc. they emailed me the test results and photos of  what they found. Wow hows that for  being detailed Photos no less. Keith has known the owner since he was just a little kid, his father owned the shop before him and lived right next door to here. The daughter lives there now. Oh and I need tires, one is very bad and the front brakes have 3000 to 5000 miles left. That will  come much later.

Marilyn.  Now this isnt't the car that you bought just about 4 months ago is it.?
If it is I would be heading back to were  you bought it unless they sold it HAS IS. That is a lot to go wrong on a car.  Maybe it is your old one that you had for long time.   I thought you had a lot of work done on that awhile back.   I don't want to buy a new one but hate to think of what could be wrong if buying used.  I just trust my old Honda. Bought it new and taken great care and so know it well.  Although I do think I maybe have a small leak in my gas tank.  Need to check it and see.
Storm has let up for now here.  They do say more later.

With the big storm on this morning it got cool enough for me to make a Shepherds pie. Made a big size so will do 4 meals. Not done one all summer as it was so hot.
Got all the filling done  on top of stove and so could just put it under the broiler for 10 minutes. No oven.
Rain gone now and it is getting up to high 80s again. Will have to put A/C on but at least the house got a good airing out.

Sharon.  I jumped the gun on my Cataracts operation. My Dr. retired and before that he told me would maybe need in a year or two and so with his replacement Dr. next year appt. I just asked if he could do them just before I retired. Get their insurance to cover.at 100%  But I guess Medicare  does for the 80% after 65.

My time posting on here is really off.  It is just 5.05 here and it is saying under my posting.6.37pm.  I just lost my Area and Clock when we had the changeover last year.  Not smart enough to put it back on. My time on the task bar is correct.

Jeanne...change the time zone under your posting by going up to Profile/Look and Layout and scroll down to the time.  Mine has a -1 which gives me Central Time.

Be sure to go to the bottom and click Change Profile if that's there.

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone.Has anyone took or taking the blood pressure med..Amlodipine Besylate...if so. Is it better to take in morning or at night?  My Dr said didn't matter...just curious. Darlene

Marilyn

Yes it is the car we bought in MAY, we should have taken it in  right away to c e checked but didn't as we were heading off to vacation, then when we got back didn't think aobut as we were planning that trip to Washington. Every time I wanted to take the car in Keith didn't want me to so finally I just said I am going to take the car in and did that today. I told the garage man to make the appointment for the rest of the work without consulting Keith or he would have put that off until it was too late.

JeanneP

Candy.  I started taking BP med also. Mine Is Benicar. I am trying to figure out the best time. Thing is mine has a Diuretic in it. its 20/12 I now decided to take about 10pm when going to bed. Just have to get up at about 4am for the loo.
I started out  taking at Breakfast. But I also drink a lot of water during the day and so meant needing the Loo more.  Think will stay with the night one.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Marilyn.  Now was it a Car from the New car dealers or on that sold just used cars.
If a big New car place they should stand behind some of those problems. Suppose to check out before selling. That is a lot of money to shell out in that short a time.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

Jeanne. Mine is a low dose. 2.5mg...I have to check my bp before I take it.  On my second dose it went down to 100 over 50.  Which is to low... But it seems to go up durning day.....I need to walk more. Darlene

JeanneP

Candy.  So yours is for Low BP.  Mine is to watch so that it keeps level.  Usually I am now 129/68/75  I guess for good and when younger should be 120/80.  I just don't understand all about BP.
Your is below $10 and mine even with discount is $149 even at Walmarts. Another Dr. told me to try another  one and it was for $10 a month also.  Most are Generic and Benicar isn't. they dont have a Generic.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

No Jeanne. My blood pressure was high. 170/85. But after taking the med for two days. Went to low....hope to get it worked out..my med was four dollars for month supply. Candy

maryz

Hate that for you, Marilyn.  Car repairs always hurt the pocketbook.

Darlene, I take my BP/diuretic med in the morning.  No particular reason.  I take meds after breakfast and after supper, with most of my Rx meds at breakfast.  Again, no particular reason.  Glad yours is working for you.

Sharon, I looked for a "little red wagon" to bring my groceries from the car to the house, and couldn't find one.  I had 2 document carriers that I used for art supplies, and I dedicated one of those to groceries.  It's like a light-weight box on two wheels with a long handle that pulls like a wheeled suitcase.  The handle collapses down, so the box fits in the trunk of the car.  It's great for bringing in the groceries.  It wasn't expensive -maybe $30 at Staples.  I use mine now to carry my laundry to and from the washer/dryer - and still for Walmart stuff, too.  Maybe something like that would help you.

Quiet day today.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Marilyn, so sorry to hear about all the car repairs needed.  It sounds like the seller wasn't very honest with you.

Mary, I have seen similar carts, but John is normally home to bring in the groceries. It's only when he's gone that I have to do it.

Jeanne, I can see where you would have gotten your cataracts done early in order to be covered. However, at my age MC and my supplement will pick it all up for me unless I decide to have lenses implanted. Depends when they say I need them.

I had to set my alarm to get up early enough to take the paper to Ms Frances. She gets up early and enjoys her paper immediately. John usually has it at her door by 7:00.  I got it there by 8:30 :) !  I'm just not an early morning person.  John got to Mel's safely and is on his way to Rockford now.

I don't have anything much planned for today.  Jane, what kind of computer project are you doing?

Have a nice day, everyone.  Sharon
