Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Candy...my husband take Amlodopine and he usually takes it in the morning.

Sharon...I'm working on the enrollment for Latin over at SeniorLearn.

Marilyn...it's too bad the car dealership didn't offer a warranty for a period of time.  But, those are things that can't be ignored or you'll have a useless piece of junk and a lot bigger bills.

Mary...I have a cart that folds that we use in TX for taking groceries from the parking area to our condo and for when I walk to the grocery store for water refills.  It's a huge help and, while the condo, has lots of carts downstairs by the parking area, those have to be returned back down, and I can keep my cart in our condo.
One less trip, even on the elevator.

Jeanne...very dark here this morning...more rain coming, obviously.

Cottoncandy

Jane. That's when I want to take my med in the morning,,,,but when u start out taking it at night.  How can u switch to morning....because it's low in morning. So if I took another..afraid it will drop to low. Candy

MaryPage

Some suggestions, Darlene;  but mind, I am not a medically trained person.  I do have extremely high blood pressure, and I take two different medications; one of them twice a day.
(1) Ask your doctor about the timing.
(2) Go to your pharmacy and buy a wrist machine for taking your own pressure.  Write it down each time you take it, and take the list to your doctor next time you go.  Or fax it, if it worries you.
(3) ask about taking half a pill in the morning and half at night.  Your pharmacy will usually supply you with a FREE pill cutter.  Or you can ask for a prescription of twice as many half strength pills, if these are available, and take one in the A.M. and one in the P.M.

Cottoncandy

MP. I have a monitor and do take it in on Dr visits.Im breaking into a 5mg tab taking once a day.  Never had to take BP med...so this is new to me...Thanks for your input. Candy

Marilyn

Jeanne and others it was a used car dealer and there was a 30 day warranty even though it was an As Is purchase. I did however call this morning and put off the Timing belt as it  won't need replacing  for another 5000 miles. I won't be driving that much until about 4 -5 years from now so that part can wait. The bill will now bee around 900$. a far cry from the 1800$  that I misquoted to you yesterday as being around 15000$

Today I am taking Freckles to the Vet to be weighed and see if she is going to have to take prednisone again for the itching.

I know it is just me, be I just can't see how some BP the Dr. give you can buy for $4 when mine are so high. Its same with so much medication. Goodness one can't buy Asprin tablets that cheap.  I did tell another doctor who I think that I  may have for just a primary. Not had one of them since mine of 25 years retired. She said let me give you a prescription for another kind of BP med.  Now it was $10 for 3 months. I tried it for a few week. I then thought it not doing as good so quit and went back on the expensive ones  Even the cheap on my BP went up just to 134/69/76. Wish I could get a Dr. to explain what the heck a healthy BP is for our age.  I have had them say that I don't need to be taking any. And I hear people saying that theirs is up to 180/90 and their Dr. don't seem to worry much.
And then when I go to my Specialist Dr. like ENT or Dermatologist they take your weight. BP etc.  and always say.  Got good numbers on your physical chart. Can't Believe you don't have to take meds. Can't understand why the BP one as it has been the same on their records for years.

Now yesterday news was saying that big mistake these people taking meds for Colestrol. Gov. saying They need looking into.  I never did do them. The BP one is the only thing I take and if I could find a good answer on them I would quit taking.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

Me to Jeanne. Don't really want to take the BP med.   but don't want to be foolish either.  My Dr says I worry to much about my BP and makes it go up....I am going to start trying to walk 3 miles a day and see if that helps...what's the name of your med? Candy

MaryPage

I take 160mg of DIOVAN twice a day: at breakfast and before going to bed, and 50mg of Metoprolol right after dinner.  Both are for blood pressure.  They did have me on a third BP med for quite a while, but then took me off of it because of side effects it was causing.

junee

For what this worth to others.  Was on Zocor for years. Used to have terrific spasms in my legs during the night, so unbearable had to call for assistance. Told from my back. I accepted that until one day read a small piece somewhere about statins so quietly asked my Dr if I could go,off Zocor. She said yes and after about 4 months have never suffered again. Put up with those painful spasms for about 10 years.
Information may help someone.
Like to add I do have faith in my medical adviser and have managed to reach this age is unbelievable.

Cottoncandy

June..I quit the statin drug for same reason...Use to...before Drs wanted cholosterol low low and now B/p. Always heard the top number on b/p should be 100 plus ur age.....they don't go by that any more....candy

Marilyn

The top number Systolic should be around 120-130, low is 100, the Diastolic bottom number should be around 50-70./ Anything over 130 is hig, 130 is borderline. That is what I've been told. Keith take Atenolol 50 mgs and Hczt,

maryz

Lots of problems can be caused by high BP.  My docs have usually said that, though there are general ranges of "normal", each person has a personal "normal".  Anyhow, I take Irbesartan/HCTZ 150/12.5 once a day.  That's a generic (I don't know what the brand name is) plus the diuretic.

Now I know my normal blood pressure is low. I normally read 90 over sixty. So by what I read here, I'm a long way from normal even after 65 years.

phyllis

Last Wed. at the doctor's office my BP measured 138/65 and the doctor said that was perfect.  I take a blood thinner and Metoprolol daily but it is for Afib, not high blood pressure.  Apparently it is used commonly for several conditions.

Candy: Ray takes 10 mg of Amlodipine everday.

My BP is affected by "white coat syndrome"...it's high when I'm at the doctor's office and ok when I'm home.

They had me take mine several times a day...and it varies a lot during the day...as it's supposed to.  When I took my numbers to them, they said it was fine.  I take 25 mg Losartan

Jeanne...Do you have Part D Prescription Insurance?  Mine more than pays for the premium and even deductible in the savings over paying the "cash" price, according to the slips I get from the pharmacy. And, I've found that WalMart is not always the cheapest on the same drug.  I called all three of our pharmacies before we had prescription insurance, and WalMart was often the highest priced.

Talk about Blood Pressure!  Just had a call from Debi asking if Chip were here (he was) and telling me she and Steve are ON THEIR WAY to Eastport from Edgewater, but I live in Eastport, and Maria, who lives here, too, has just been held up AT GUNPOINT in her home!  And the police are there, but she needs FAMILY asap.  So Chip tore out of here, unwashed and all, and I called Debi on her cell phone to let her know he will get there ahead of them.  And I have emailed Becky and Anne and asked that they not call, as I want to keep the line open for news.  Kathryn, John and Ava left last night for a beach weekend, so they are hours away.  Hey gals, it isn't Just In The Movies!  MaryZ, tell your darling grandchildren to Keep Their Doors Locked!  The world just isn't what it used to be.  Eastport is the greatest place in the world to live, and No Slum!  It would seem there are just no safe places to be anymore.

jane

OMG, MaryPage...what a horror.  I hope they didn't hurt Maria.  I think she's the attorney?  I hope it wasn't a disgruntled piece of trash had legal dealings against.

A real fall day here...cool 60s this morning.  We'll be trying to get a walk in this early afternoon before watching football games.

Oh, my!  What a frightening call to get.  I hope everything has turned out well by now.  Do keep us informed, MaryPage.  We do care.

Oh my, Mary Page, how frightening!! I hope everything is okay and no one hurt.

I have taken an ACE inhibitor(Zestril) when I was first diagnosed with CHF, but it gave me a cough and a dry throat.  After my heart got back to normal the cardiologist said I didn't need to take the Ace inhibitor any more.  Then a couple years ago, another dr tried to put me on Losartan. I took one RX and discontinued it. I can't remember what the side effects were, but I didn't think it was necessary anyway.  My BP  is usually around 120/60 which is perfect.  I used to take various cholesterol meds, but after my chemo, I got liver enzyme spikes from statins.  Tried everything else. Nothing really effective, so I said no more! I still wonder if the weakness in my legs might date back to some of those meds.

Nothing going on here. Very sunny and hot.  Sharon

Chip just called.  He said Maria and Chester, her dog, have not been injured physically at all.  Maria very traumatized.  The police there and the detectives have arrived and they are all to leave to allow for the fingerprinting, etc.  Debi & Steve arrived and will take Maria home with them.  Chip will be home soon and fill me in on the details.  Yes, Jane, and you are amazing, Maria is the one who is an attorney.
Well, I guess when you have 13 granddaughters, everything in the books is apt to happen at one time or another.  I'd just as soon miss out on the possibility of anything in the least threatening in future, please God!

so_P_bubble

What an experience for Maria! I hope she will not retain any fright once she gets over that.
TG she was not injured. Did the dog help her?
Hopefully your BP is back to normal too :)

maryz

How scary, MaryPage - I assume the guy got away.  What did he take?  Please tell Maria about all the "family" hugs she has from here.

Here, it's another day just like yesterday - nothing exciting.

I too am hoping that Maria is feeling better soon and know that Chester is staying close to comfort and be comforted. That must have been very frightening in a place we expect to be safe!

JeanneP

Candy.  I take Benicar for BP. Keeps me around 29/68/72  Now most Dr. Say that at our age being up to 40 /80s is normal.  Like I say. I don't think they really know that much about it. Sort of like the Cholesterol.  Was at the Dermatologist the other day and mentioned people taking drug for Cholesterol and he said would never find him taking any. The don't agree with me. Tried for 2 weeks 20years ago and joints really hurt.. Even back then a Dr. I knew in UK told me never to take the Sta tins.  Now they are saying it in US.
I say that the Drug Companies have all the say when it comes to Health and Drugs. Not Doctors.

I am happy to be with you all today. What a storm we went through yesterday. About 6pm and then at 9pm. Tornado warning and Sirens going.  4 tornados came to ground. Went over my town but hit in 2 of the villages 10 miles east.  Everyone O.K and just damaged a few building but did competely distroy one Farm Home and all the buildings and also a Motor Home where the people had just driven in from Alaska. Shame on the farm house as it had been in the same family for 137 years. Built by GGF.  Seems they lost their dog and 2 cats.
We are pretty much farm land  close to the interstate. Think that the reason that these Tornado seem to come down on land with not a lot of building. Although 3 years ago one did take down half of the town 9 miles south of me. And about 12 years ago another larger town 14 miles east. Again only 2 people died in those. You sure feel good though when the all clear goes.  They happen so fast.

Oh my MaryPage what an awful experience for maria. Traumatizing  is a mild word for what happened to her. I do hope she will have someone stay with her for a week or tw or that she stzysa with the others for a few days at least..

MaryPage

As I write, Debi and Steve and Maria are at the police station finishing answering questions.  Maria, that is, is finishing answering questions.  Debi & Steve are minding Chester until they are finished, and then Maria will go home with them.  All will be well eventually.  Big trauma, but this, too, will pass.  Chip is home now, and doing stuff for me because my left knee got so very bad in the night that it is a really bad day for me, and I am using a cane and in pretty big pain.  Chip had planned to go to Virginia, and he cancelled his plans this morning for me, and I was having a huge guilt trip, and then it turned out to be a blessing for Maria that he was here.  He says she was being a stoic heroine until he showed up, and then she burst into tears and flew into his arms.  So I am connecting the dots and complaining to invisible Arrangers that they might have thought up something not QUITE as painful to keep Chip here today so he could be there for Maria.
