Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hi Buddies.  Tim picked me up at 8:30 to take me to Montgomery to see my oncologist.  We got down there about 9:40 and I signed in electronically, then went to the vampires' room for my blood stick and then to a waiting room to be called by Dr. Davidson.  It turned out that I was called back in about 10 minutes, got my shirt and bra off, and his nurse practitioner came in to tell me he was out of town, but she examined me and my blood results and told me I was good to go until next year.  I made a mammo appointment for March and am to see Dr. Davidson in October.  By then I hope I'll be driving myself! (I HOPE!)

Tim and I stopped at Schlotsky's Deli not far from the Cancer Clinic and had lunch.  He had a large sandwich and chips, plus a soft drink and I had a cup of chili, a half of a veggie sandwich, and a cup of coffee.  I didn't sleep much last night so I'm off to take a nap now.  I hope all of you have a great weekend.

Mary, I know you'll have fun with your kids and grand-kids.  I hope the drive up and back to Kentucky is a safe one.  I'm sure the wedding will be lovely.  Which of your daughters is the mother of the bride--is it Sue who lives in Kentucky?

I didn't sleep well last night worrying about getting to Montgomery on time, so I'm off for a nap now!
Sue

P.S. Jane, I hope the rain has stopped and you're still high and dry.

maryz

Sue, The groom is Kate's son, Andy.  Sue lives in SC.  (It's hard to remember the players without a program. LOL)

It is 6:30 pm on a rainy day. Not sure, but, think we have been down on rain so the grass and trees welcome it. I didn't get into the walk-in dental clinic this morning.  :tickedoff: Overslept. Took a pain-pill 50 minutes ago. It only took off the top of the pain.  :'(

It is Saturday.
It is the first day of October.
How I am doing so far?  Hard to get oriented and get going these days.
We have another one all wet and rainy, with the breeze tossing the water in the bay every which way.
Apparently we are caught between weather patterns.
I will have a cozy day.  Have swept out the stale air and let in the fresh (is there really any such thing anymore?  I read there is not!) simply by opening the front and back sliding glass doors and letting the stiff breezes whoosh through like a locomotive train.
Have plenty of good books and am well provisioned, so I'll survive.  Happy October one to you all.  Oh, and Our Pam is 59 today.  She is the youngest of my 5 daughters, and lives in Arizona.

Thanks for reminding me we are moving to a new month! My desk calendar is still on Sept 15  :-[
Time flies. I wonder if it is a good thing or not.  Sunday is even a new year for us, but I stopped counting.

Bubble, did you catch the news last night? We had a small blessing: a hilarious moment in the midst of all the ghastly news bulletins.  I laughed myself silly.
President Obama attended the services for the wonderful Shimon Peres, and the film clip showed him standing inside the doorway of Air Force One calling and beckoning to someone still on the tarmac to come on, the plane was in line to take off to leave Israel.  And this someone did not come, and did not come, and President Obama stepped out on to the top of the stairs and called and beckoned some more.  And I was wondering Who In This World would dare to dawdle when the President of the United States was ordering them to get the heck on the aircraft!  I just couldn't figure it!  And then, when the latecomer finally hustled up the stairs, I burst into joyful laughter.  Did you see it?

so_P_bubble

No! they did not show that here :(  Don't leave me hanging.... what was it? who?  the pilot?

MaryPage

It was Bill Clinton!
And I could just see him schmoozing away with dozens of people he would have known and just had to have a word with!
Just like him!
But, after I stopped to consider the situation, I realized that only four (4) people in the World could have held up that plane: former presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Himself: William Jefferson Clinton!
Oh, (gasp), it is Funny!

so_P_bubble

Well Clinton just love those hugs and kisses... lol

SharonE

MP, I saw that too. So funny.

Bright and shiny day here, high 70's or low 80's with lower humidity, so very nice.

We just got back from a memorial service for our SS friend. It was done ever so nicely, but still sad.

My ant bites are much better, thank the Lord!  I was going crazy for a while.

We're going out to eat with our neighbors tonight. That should be fun.

Ginny, I didn't realize you had more dental problems. I'm so sorry. I hope you can get in to see someone quickly.

Sue, sounds like you had a good day yesterday with a good report from the onc and lunch with Tim.  Hope you got a good nap.

Happy New Year, Soap Bubble.  Sad to have such an important person's funeral on the first day of the year. Hope the rest of the year is happy and upbeat.

All for now, Sharon

GinnyAnn

Good Afternoon Buddies.  Oct is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  After 2 types of Breast Cancer, I am grateful to be around. It is a grey sky day. Not raining right now, but probably will later. Seem to have the 'runs'. My body is not a 'happy camper'.

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I'm moving slowly this morning.  I didn't wake up until almost 9:00.  I'd just heated a cup of coffee when my sister, Anne, called.  We had our usual one hour chat--she has ATT with free long distance.  So I didn't get breakfast until almost 10:30.  I usually eat cereal, but decided to have scrambled eggs and toast.  My mail lady came while I was eating, so I've gone through the mail, cleaned up the kitchen and now have the Florida/Vanderbilt football game on.  Florida is ahead and just got a break when Vandy fumbled near the Florida goal.  YUCK!

GinnyAnn, I'm glad you're still around and me, too!  I remember when we and Jane were posting over on Third Age long ago.  I think Jane steered us to SeniorNet.org (that's what I think it was).  Bosom Buddies was already open there.

Sharon, I'm glad your ant bites are better.  You were fortunate they didn't trigger an allergy.  I'm sorry to hear about your SS friend and know you must be still feeling sad.  It's cooler here, too.  I really need rain--I'm not up to hauling hoses and sprinklers around my yard and my azaleas are suffering.  They should be watered thoroughly every other day.

Bubble, you are so right about our former hug loving Prez!  I thought it was amusing that President Obama had to stand in the doorway and wave him on.  My sympathy to you for the loss of your beloved leader who did so much to help establish Israel after WWII.

MaryPage, our former President DID and DOES like to schmooze!  I hope you're having a good day--any celebrations for you today

I've got the Florida/Vanderbilt football game on and I'm pulling for Vandy but they are still one touchdown behind.  They are playing at Vanderbilt, so maybe they still have hope to recover the ball and run it in for a TD, but only 1:25 to go in the 4th quarter.

Have a nice "fall" day, Buddies and enjoy yourselves!

Yes, Sue, my youngest daughter, Pamela (Pam), has a birthday today.  She is 59!  She lives in Arizona, so there is no local celebration.
Son Chip went to a Nationals game this week, I think it was Thursday, but my memory, you know, and had a triumph he has looked for for simply years now: he caught a ball!  It sits in all its glory on the kitchen table, as I write.  I am so happy he has achieved that lifetime goal!
My entire family tends to be bonkers for baseball.  Except me.  I will admit to never wanting to miss a Tee-Ball game, because they were so funny, but otherwise I do not enthuse over sports.  Fact of the matter is, I am almost allergic to them.  I get all itchy, and yearn to be reading a book.  Did get into Women's Soccer for a while, just because I loved having the world know it Could Be Done, but my interest has pretty much disappeared.
It is still raining.  I expect THE ARK to appear out there on Chesapeake waters any minute now.

angelface555

Now MaryPage, I was expecting it to be his youngest daughter!  ;) Teens
will do that sometimes when you are ready to go!

Sue, I don't remember seeing you or Jane post in ThirdAge, but I was typically in the cats or the photography discussions.

GinnyAnn, I know how it is when our body can get out of whack. I have IBS, diverticulitis, food allergies and am lactose intolerant so I've had a few of those types of days.

Marilyn

Freckles and I went visiting this morning  at one of the Nursing homes. After lunch I took her to the pet store to shop with me, we bought her food and she picked out a big braided  piggie treat for herself, then we went to the Thrift Store and bought a nice pr of dress pants for me and cute western style blouse that snaps up the from and is long sleeved to go with the pants or my jeans.

We had Mexican dinner out last night at one of the places we used to love going to, however last night the food was  so greasy it left grease on the plate and Keith has had to spend a lot of time in the loo, I too had more than the usual amount of bathroom trips this mornien but I got over it. We won't be going back there for a very long time.

SCFSue

Angelface, the 3 of us were posting in the breast cancer forum--and I was posting in another--can't remember which.  I had my B.C. in 1996, so it was about that time.

Marilyn, what fun to find a couple of bargains at the Thrift Store.  I'm sorry your Mexican dinner was a disappointment.  And led to night time visits to the loo!  I hope you're both feeling better today.

MaryPage, when I was a kid, the neighborhood boys let me play baseball with them.  I wasn't any good, but they let me play first base.  My hero was Johnny Mize of the NY Yankees (I think that was the right player) and he was a great first basemen.  Me, not so much!  I hope your next post doesn't tell us that you're floating in an ark!

I'm watching an old movie on TCM, with Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson.  Morgan is a prince trying to be "normal" and Carson is a cab driver.  I'm just waiting until time for Grantchester on PBS.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

Greetings from Ohio.....

GinnyAnn....I waved to you as we came down I-77 and passed the Fairlawn-Medina exit!

It's been a great visit.  Yesterday, we did a "tour" of several hundred miles to see the kids and babies...so amazing how fast they grow....a 5 yr old, a 16 month old, and the twins at 9 months who are "cruising" around and pulling themselves up and standing alone.

Today's a day of rest before we start for home tomorrow.  I'm up because my knee is giving me fits.

Jane

SharonE

Marilyn, what a disappointment with your meal. I hate it when a restaurant that was once good goes downhill.  Your thrift shop finds sound great.

Sue, I started in Sr. Net about 1996 in the Cafe, I think it was called.  I know Jane posted there then.  I got my BC in 2001 and Jane invited me to BB's where I've stayed ever since.  I rarely go the other folders. I played softball or an approximation of it with some of my girlfriends when I was about 9 or 10, but my only real sport was golf and that didn't come about till I was about 35, but I really loved it and played for over 20 yrs till my back got so bad I couldn't. I cried when I sold my clubs.

I hope Mary has had a wonderful time at the wedding and arrives home safely.

I also hope Mary Page has some sunshine today.  It looks like another hurricane may be working its way up the coast and will hopefully bring us rain but little wind. Maybe it will veer east and skip  your area.  One can hope anyway.

John left early this morning to go to an all-day bridge tournament. Consequently, I set the alarm to wake me in time for SS & church.  However, the sound is so soft it didn't wake me and I slept till about 9:30 so missed both SS & church. I guess I will have to buy a new alarm for my side of the bed.  I don't normally set one, as John & Bunny wake me at whatever time I tell them the night before.   I hate to miss.  Sharon

MaryPage

I just rushed to the computer to tell y'all that THE SUN came out, but now that I am all positioned to tell you that incredible news, it has disappeared again.  BUT IT WAS HERE!  IT WAS!  I SAW IT!
It is still round and yellow, and splashes light on everything.
But it has gone away again.
We were not due for rain all of this coming week, but the hurricane may come up here and change that schedule totally.
Who is that ADORABLE little ballerina in blue?  It says "by Shirley."  Cutest thing EVer!

JeanneP

I saw that was so funny.  President  yelling at Bill Clinton.  "Come on Bill, we gotta go. I need to get home"  The only natural thing said among Politicians in a long time.  I miss Bill Clinton and hate to See the day Pres. Obama says Bye...Hope one day to see his wife run for a high office. She is great.

Hi Gals!  Sounds like it was a quiet weekend in here.  The wedding was lovely and Andy & Erica are well and truly married.  The venue was lovely, with beautiful weather.  The ceremony was outdoors beside a lively, lovely small river, just at dusk, and just outside the mouth of the cave.  The reception was held just under the overhang at the entrance to the cave, beautifully decorated with lights and white and black flowers.  And it's always great to get to spend time with my girls, their spouses, and good friends.  Sue and Randy got me back home about 2, so I've had time to get my papers read and will be going up to supper shortly.

I'm going to have to check with my rheumatologist this week.  I've had five once-weekly doses now of Fosamax, and my back is killing me.  I've been taking more pain medicine, but not much help.  I don't know if this is something new or a side effect from the Fosamax, so I want to ask his opinion and what my options are.  The knee did pretty well with the walking at the wedding.  I was very careful with the cane, and the girls and SILs are so solicitous with me.  Anyhow, we shall see......

I hope everybody has a good week coming up.

Fosamax.  Now I remember one Dr. giving me a prescription for that. Can't think what is was for now. Think it was after taking a bone Scan.  All I know is that I hurt in every bone. Quit after about a week.
What ever it was for I don't have the problem now.  Latest bone scan was no different than was 15 years ago.  Not taking any more tests for Osto.
JeanneP

SCFSue

Jane, it sounds as if you have had a great visit.  What fun to visit with your family and to enjoy the newest members!  I hope you have a safe trip home.

Jeanne, Fosamax does strengthen bones, but taking it too long (more than 10 years I think) found many women getting upper thigh breaks.  I was afraid that would happen to me, but my doctor took me off it about 9 years out.

Mary, the wedding  sounds lovely--and how great that the weather was beautiful.  I think you'd be wise to check out the Fosomax.  And if I remember correctly, I was taking it daily.  I didn't have any problems with it, but I know it  was not the best for everyone.  I think Jane was taking it when I did.

Jeanne, I like Bill Clinton, too, although not his womanizing.  I'm not so fond of his wife, though--and sure don't want to vote for Trump, either!  It's a dilemma this year.  That was funny with President Obama waving B.C. on to the plane.

MaryPage, I'm glad you're getting some sunshine today.  As for me, I don't think it has rained once since I came home in June.  I haven't pulled my sprinklers around my big back yard because it's just too difficult.  I keep hoping we'll get rain.  I have been able to water 2 small flower beds in the front as they are closer to the faucets and not as much hose to spread out.  I'm afraid my azaleas in the back will not recover.

Sharon, I'm not much of a golfer, but I still have my clubs.  I played a lot with Bob, though, especially in the summer when I wasn't teaching.  I usually had to hit about 9 or 10 strokes to get to the greens.  He'd hit 2 or 3 to get there so he'd walk along the woods and look for lost balls while waiting for me to get there.  We went to an Elderhostel at one of the South Carolina beaches before he got sick.  The instructor took videos of our swings, putting, etc.  He said my swing looked great, but it didn't go very far!

Later, Buddies.
Sue

jane

I never took Fosamax because of the jaw problems I think it was people had.  I did take Tamoxifen and I think Sue did, too, for help with not having BC reoccur.  I took that for 5  yrs or so, and then they said no added benefit beyond that, so I was taken off.  I now take Evista.

We're in Bloomington, IL, tonight and about to go get some supper someplace.  On home tomorrow.

Jane

maryz

Home after my long Monday.  Not much in cards today, but the time in the pool was great.  My back pain has eased off over the day, so I guess it wasn't the Fosamax.  I don't much care - as long as the pain has stopped.

Sue, we now have a 14" rain deficit for the year, and have no rain predicted for the next two weeks.  And the highs over the next five days are supposed to be in the mid80s.  Crazy year.

Hi Buddies, Today was a disappointment for me. Ray had remembered the wrong time for the dentist's open office.  :tickedoff:  So I still have two teeth hurting.  >:( Living on aspirin.  :tickedoff:  I sure hope everyone had a better day than I did.

so_P_bubble

SCFSue I took daily Fosamax for twelve years until the doctor decided I wouldn't get more benefit from it. I felt better after that: I could finally  have my first coffee as soon as I was awake!

Ginny Ann, I am having a very difficult time trying to understand why you can't get to a dentist!
My dentist, with whom I have a regular every 6 months cleaning and check up, will take me THE VERY DAY I have any pain, as an emergency.  He will stay late, if need be, as will his dental assistant, and his wife, who is the receptionist.  I have had this particular dentist, who is about a 5 minute drive from my home and right around the corner in the same little shopping center from The Main Ingredient, for just over 16 years now.  So what I am trying to say is, he will never, ever let me down and will work me into his schedule the very day I am in trouble, and I don't understand why yours won't do the same.  I cannot bear it that you are suffering so.

SharonE

Hi Gals, not much going on here other than my cleaning girl is here.

Sue, your azaleas are so well established, they should come back when the rains finally come. John started golfing before I did but since I had summers off, I played a lot more and actually beat him part of the time. I hit a very long ball.

Mary, the wedding sounded delightful and so nice to have all the family together. Glad you got home safely.

Jane, your trip sounded great. I know you enjoyed seeing all the little ones. I was surprised that you were going to Ohio in Oct when you usually go at Christmas, but it is a nice time to travel in the fall.

I took Fosamax and had lots of pain from it, so went off it.  I also took sfhots for a couple years and then decided the side effects were in line with the pain I was having so stopped that and went on Evista.

Ginny, you shouldn't be taking aspirin with all your stomach problems. Try Tylenol or enteric coated aspirin.  I agree with MP that your dentist should be willing to work you in when you have such pain. Have you tried calling him?

Today is supposed to be our last day in the 80's for a while. Dropping into the 70's then. Hurricane  Matthew is looming out there.  It is uncertain whether it will impact us or not.

Hope you all are having a good day.  Sharon

maryz

Ginny Ann -  I'm with the others in your trying to get hold of the dentist directly.  Or check to see if there's an emergency dental office in your area.

I'll keep on with the weekly Fosamax, since the pain has eased considerably.  I guess it was due to the unusual activity/long time in car/sleeping in different beds/etc.

I got my flu shot this morning (here at the Terrace), and then have been to Silver Sneakers.  I'm meeting friends at a new "Caribbean cooking" restaurant for dinner tonight, but that's it for the day.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!
