Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Bubble.  I think if in the US they were look a little more into Herbs and Plants etc. instead of spending Billions of dollars making all these pills that the charge a fortune for.  I think that people knew more about what nature put out there. Seems the Asian countries do quite well using natural things. I remember my grandmother use to always have something steeping away. Children here now have been on so many antibiotics by the time they are 5 years old that they will never be able to take anything in years to come that will work on them.  Never had my girls to Dr. nor did they with theirs and never sick. But my GD out east seems to have her to doctor for least little thing.

I've been in Vermont for a week and arrived home late last night. We decided to stay only a week so I am going to miss the best of the foliage.  :( My son said he would send me a photo of his trees when they are at peak color. Had a wonderful family reunion while we were there. Would you believe I forgot to take my camera to the reunion?  :'(

Lots of nice photos since I was here.

Shirley - My granddaughter's father was my former son-in-law. Sadly and tragically he took his own life about 6 months later.

Beverly and Bubble, great photos.  Loved the farm and sunset Beverly, and your handiwork Bubble.

Bubble, a really nice table garden, I'm envious! And such a thoughtful New year's gift!

Beverly.  Now that is a Farm I could live on. Beautiful. Looks peaceful. Even has cows. Bet some chickens some place.

Bubbles. I never got my table garden to look that good.  Nice ideas to put the photo's on it.  I even tried A Cacti one.  Just don't have a green thumb.Allergic to all flowers and never could work on outdoor garden so think may that is the reason. Just have to work with Silk ones.

Nice with the Apple and honey plant.

Beverly. Vermont and Maine areas are about the only states I have not been. Always planned to drive up there. Only thing now can't find anyone who wants to go. Maybe in Spring I will just get into my car and drive up.

Jeanne, Bob's first duty station when he finished flight school in Corpus Christi was Brunswick, Maine.  We drove up there with our 9 month old son at the end of May.  There was still 3 feet of snow packed under windows and it was raining.  He had to leave in a week to join his squadron on deployment in Sicily.  We quickly bought a small house and I moved in.  The snow began to melt, but it was still VERY CHILLY!  We finally got used to it, but oh boy, did it start snowing again in late October and all winter long!  When a storm was coming, I parked our car down at the end of the driveway so that I didn't have to shovel the whole drive if I needed to get out.  Shoveling is NOT an easy job!

So if you plan to go up there, be sure to go in July, August, or September!  It is really beautiful up there, even with the snow and the people are friendly.  And we developed a great love for lobster which at the time we could get from the lobstermen for about $1 each.

These days,   May through the end of October are pretty mild....   June thru September are beautiful times of the year....  The prettiest of course,  being the end of September thru Halloween.

But, by the time I get through New Years Day,
(With the Holidays etc making the end of the
year very festive),  I am looking forward to
and early Spring.   Which sometimes comes as
early as April Fools Day...

I don't like the heavy Winter Months of January,
February and March...   but to each his own,
and many people do love  playing in the snow
(Not ME!!)

Any time there is ice on the ground,
especially covered by snow,  is hazardous
for the elderly and disabled to get around.

So I believe that the best time to come to
Maine is Late May thru Halloween..

(Of course, it is all in what you get used
to  and how much "change" one can
endure, through out the Seasons!)

Ayah!

Jeanne - Most of the farms are dairy farms. This is one of the prettiest I've seen. I can remember a time when Vermont boasted more cows than people. My daughter has chickens for the eggs and for awhile she had sheep.  My granddaughter and her husband raise chickens for meat and eggs, a pig and usually a beef cow.

I love Spring in Vermont but it can be unpredictable. May is usually beautiful. My favorite part is the lilacs. If you want to make the drive there, the best time is late September. By October the foliage is beautiful!

SFSue - As you said, snow can come as soon as late October. The long winters are what drove us to move to Florida. I loved it when we could go snowmobiling, etc.

Where we lived in VT and our reason for moving here.  :) It's beautiful but as we grew older our winters seemed longer!

No posts today.......I think I scared everyone off with my snow picture.  ;)

MaryTX

LOL.  I like a "little" snow, particularly when I am inside looking out :)

Well I did post in Gatherings and Meeting Friends~Old and New...

Bubble - And I just replied!  :) I wonder how many people have found that discussion. It's kind of "out of the way".

MaryTX - I like snow for about two weeks!  :)

JeanneP

Beverly. Oh! I love to see snow like that. Just for one week.  We use to get them here in Illinois. For the past 4 years hardly had any. Last 2 didn't even have to have my driveway cleared.  I miss them.
What I miss most is seeing the Ocean. People tell me that up there would remind me of my HOme area in UK.  Just have to get up there.  (1st thing on my 2017 Bucket list)

I love a nice snowfall, particularly on a sunny day.   Looking for a photo of mine in the snow and found one, but first wanted to post my old home as it was in 1964, and now with a few improvements.  Jessie joins me in the family room and seldom visit my 2nd floor.  Hate to think of ever leaving, it is home.

jackwv

Now here is a photo following a nice snowfall.

JeanneP

Jack.  I love the style of your home.  Looks like you just added that room on the side. It adds to the style of the house.  Hope you can get to stay in it for a long time yet.
Sent you a photo using my Yahoo. mail. did you get it?

We were in New England for two weeks several years ago in late September.  The weather was great and the fall colors beautiful.  That is one of the things we miss here in Florida, but we sure don't miss driving in the snow.

JeanneP, sorry, no email.

Several years ago I looked at a unit in a close by high rise.    No pets at the time, now will permit small, but not sweet golden that never barks.   The unit was about the size of my family room addition.   Posting a photo of part of the room.   It has a full bath, and the front of the room (not shown)  is a large bay window, day bed, two recliners and large tv.   Have mentioned in the past my down sizing and hate clutter, enough in my mind.  This it the back of the room, the bathroom on the left and my  :) work space, with a large door to my patio.  Like being alone, but could easily rent out the home and live in the family room.

so_P_bubble

Very cosy with all that nice wood.
If you were renting the house, you would have no kitchen!

JeanneP

Like you Jack. I will have a hard time changing living places.  Daughter on my almost daily about moving to Texas. I know its hard here being 1100 miles away but I love my life here.  Don't think I could live in a Condo, Assisted Living. To private a person. Been alone now 50 years and was raised almost like a only child. Health has got a lot to do with how one lives I think. Right now I feel as good as years ago. go out daily, drive a lot. Lots of things go on in this University town. Still love cooking, fixing things around the house.  I would be content in that kind of a space that you added on. But mine only 940 sq ft. But don't care about perfect house cleaning now.  Think I need a cleaner in about every other week.  Think we will know when we need to make big change. Your dogs have kept you active.  Don't ever rent out space to anyone. We are not use to people close.  Only thing is with me I have traveled all these years all over.  I would like to have someone who is still wanting to travel now.  Afraid the friends I have left now can't do it.
