Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

So glad that Joe is with you, Joan, and I know you are feeling relieved as well.  I'm praying for you (and for all of us on the East Coast).  Here in central NC (we are about 90-100 miles from the coast) all are breathing a little easier.  H. Matthew will turn to the East as it nears the NC coast  and we will probably only get about an inch or two of rain and some gusty winds here.  The Outer Banks will still take a hit and they are evacuating some of the islands.  Johann Mc.  and her husband are in Myrtle Beach and I know they will get hit.  I'm sure they are prepared as well as they can be or have gone inland.  I think Larry is far enough to the west that he won't feel as much except perhaps some rain and minor wind.  Is that right, Larry?

We have been told here that tap water is just as good as bottled water.  I have a large collection of bottled water down in the basement room that we can use for washing but I don't think we will find it necessary to use them.  I'll fill a couple of containers of tap water for drinking, just in case.  I will go to the grocery store today and stock up on some pantry items but that is just our regular weekly shopping.  Tomorrow we will secure outdoor furniture and trash cans so they won't blow around and cause damage.

The bad thing about living in NC is that we get BOTH tornadoes and hurricanes.  Aren't we lucky?  I prefer hurricanes because we have a longer warning time in order to prepare.  With tornadoes they can come up so quickly that often people are caught before they can get to a safe place.  We've have several of both kinds of storms since we moved here....and even an earthquake a few years ago!

Thank you for the birthday messages.  It is nice to be remembered by some of you.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  I have a busy day planned for today but know it probably won't all get done.

This is coffee day and will pick up my friend to go with me and then take him home and go back to the church for our Wisdom group.  Last week we had about 15 present, which was the biggest group I have seen there since I started attending.

Phyllis, you are right in that we don't expect to get very high winds (perhaps 35 to 40 mph) and not much rain which is predicted  and is to occur on Saturday.

Yesterday I did get to COSTCO right after they opened and they were already busy.  However, was able to get a riding cart to use and that made the shopping much easier and faster.  Unloading the car when I got home was the big job.  I stocked up on meat and today must get it ready and into the freezer.  I also want to make some more sausage muffins for Pat and perhaps fix my frozen fruit, if there is room in the freezer.

Yesterday our refrigerator ice maker quit working so I had to get a big bag of ice last evening.  I was surprised as the ice bin held the entire 16 pounds of ice cubes.  I also have to get something planned and ready for dinner tonight.

The Augusta area is already feeling the impact of the evacuation from the coastal areas.  That added with the fact that there was no school yesterday and won't be today and tomorrow filled up the restaurants and sure the motels are probably fully booked by now.  Our son said they had the biggest business he has ever seen yesterday and one lady at dinner last night said she and her son had gone out to eat yesterday and had to go to three places to find a place to park.

Joan, was glad to see that Joe was arrived at your home yesterday and that he had water with him.

Beverly, the weather map showing Florida isn't encouraging in terms of the winds and heavy rain.  Sure hope you and Chape and your home are OK after the storm passes.

Mary Ann, Jackie and Shirley, Jeanne Lee did get out of the hospital several days ago and her son was coming to visit for a couple of days.

Phyllis, Happy Birthday.

Jackie, I hope your visit today reveals a place you can participate in and make a lot of new friends as well as get the help you may need.

Amy, Happy Birthday to your husband and hope you have a delightful trip today to see the beautiful leaves.  That is a nice way to celebrate.

Sun, glad to see your posting but not happy to see you had a new injury as you sure don't need any new problems.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  You sure have a busy day ahead.  I'll be glad when the next couple of days are over.

Another day with above average temperatures - maybe even into the mid 70's.  But by Saturday the temps will fall ...  and so will the rain.  By then, though, things should be easing off in the path of Mathew.

Meanwhile, my son, Ken, arrived just after noon yesterday and I've been busy keeping him busy.  ;)  I think he'll only be here another day so the jobs that need his strength and know-how need to be taken care of.

Sorry I haven't been keeping you folks up to date as much as I should, but coming home after a week in the hospital there is sooooo much to contend with, including things such as cleaning stuff out of the refrigerator and getting the garbage gathered and ot of the house, etc., etc.  I hope unter the circumstnaces that doesn't involve demerits!   :o

Good morning Joan and all the friends.

Joan, my thoughts are with you this morning and hope you will not have any problems with the storm.  Are you going to stay put or are you going to be able to get to a shelter?

I am concerned about my grand daughter in S.C.  They have mandatory evacuation and I sure hope they are listening to all the warnings and not drag their feet.  You know,  the young ones are usually slow to get moving.

Happy Birthday, Phyllis.  I hope you have a wonderful day.   Hope you get to go out for a special birthday dinner.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe day, wherever you live.

Sun so happy to see you posting. I am so sorry to read you have hurt the other arm.

Happy birthday Phyllis.

I have already had 4 phone calls, so have to go and get dressed.

Amy, please tell your husband "Happy Shared Birthday" from me.  I am convinced that people born in October are handsome/beautiful, extremely intelligent, gracious, and kind.   And, modest, too!  ::)

At 87 years I strongly suspect that I have a few years head start on him.  My son, David, just invited me out to dinner tonight.  I'm delighted to accept!

Been a successful trip....everyone I spoke with at this MS day centre was very friendly...I am in the process of becoming a member, not sure R will be able to stay for the lunchtime dinner in the future, he was given information of local golf clubs he could attend after dropping me off but dont think he would be interested now, and through our winter months......

Mary Ann

I am watching the Weather Channel on TV with thoughts of Joan.  I hope she and Joe can ride out the storm and if not, that they find a nearby shelter.

Happy birthday, Phyllis; I have a few years on you.

We are to get into the mid-to-high 70s today.  And this is October!  The sun is not shining today.

Speaking of sun/Sun, it was good to see a post from our Sunshine this morning.  Welcome back.

Today we have our family luncheon at a new pizza place.  I don't know how many will be able to attend.  We have a potential of seven, but sometimes there are only six of us, maybe four or three.  I like pizza but I hope they have more than pizza such as a salad or soup and salad.

Good morning everyone, just heard the latest on Matthew, wonder how they can tell that Matthew will do a turn like that and hit southern Florida again. I have yet to see “them” forecast anything right. They  put in a new hot water tank here yesterday. No hot water all day but by 6pm it was back. Had to run all the hot water in our apartments to flush the lines.  The one they brought in was almost double the size of the one they took out. It was a nice day here and I never saw so many sitting out watching what was going on. Some  we seldom see were outside watching.

PHYLLIS  your brick mason sounds like a very thoughtful man and worth every penny you will pay him.  I am surprised you can take your rollator up and down stairs. I wound not be able to do that, but then you have the bigger wheels so maybe that helps. I would not be able to lift mine up one step. The last hurricane to hit this area was in 54. Mostly they hit the coast and have done a lot of damage. I love the pouch under the seat, most here have the wire baskets and you can see what they carry. What I carry all the time is not seen by anyone.

JOAN  I feel safer here than I would feel if I was in a house alone. I really am worried about you.

CALLIE  I have heard on TV lately about a big earthquake in Ca. Again. Makes me happy my daughter is not there any longer but my 2 grandsons are still in San Diego. Glad you escaped a bad storm. Hope it misses Shirley, too.

JOY  they had said that we would be in the path on Sunday.

LARRY  I hope Pat get some relief from that pain. Maybe she should see her doctor.

HAL one time coming back fro San Diego I had a business seat and was surprised they put me there but I enjoyed the more comfortable seat and service.

JOAN  I have you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope Joe is there with you now and they will let him drive in to you. I did see on TV how they had all roads open for leaving but not coming in.

JANE  looks like we did the same as you when we got snowed in at times.  My 3 wanted to go outside and into the fun in the snow ASAP.  I will stay here, too.

SANDY  have been through many winter storms here in RI many times. No electricity but always had a small wood stove and plenty of wood to keep the main part of home warm, had gas stove so could still cook. Never without running water.

JANE  I think we have all survived nature's fury in our lives and thank God for keeping us safe.

PATRICIA  Farrah is not a dumb animal. She is a smart kitty to look at thing the way she did and figured out how to get that food.

JOAN  glad Joe made it and glad he will be with you. He is a good son and wonderful man.

MARY ANN  thanks for letting us know about Jeanne Lee. I hope she is well enough to go home.

SUN  miss you. Nice seeing you this morning, take care of yourself. Prayers for you.

JOAN  good  seeing you post this morning. Hope Joe is there with you. Love
Food for Thought and quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.  Stay safe.

JACKIE  hope today's trip is just what you are looking for.

JEANNE LEE  good seeing you. Glad you son is there to help you.

Good Morning,

Good to see Joan here this morning.   Continued prayers for her and any others who will be affected by Michael.  "He" sure is wandering around!!!!

:hb3:  Phyllis

:hello:  Sun.  So good to see you again.

Jeanne Lee,  so glad to know you're home from your hospital stay.  Hope you continue to feel "betterer" and "betterer".

Jackie, it sounds as if this MS Day Center will be "The Place" for you to go.  I know we have Day Care Centers for Seniors whose caregivers need some time to themselves - but I've not heard of one specifically for MS sufferers.  Sounds like a great idea.

Larry,  I continue to be impressed with your thoughtfulness for the other men in your groups.  I remember how much my Dad missed interacting with his men friends when he could no longer get out and about by himself.

Gloria,   October is referred to as "the second storm season" because we can have tornadoes - but they're not usually as severe as the ones in the Spring.   I heard some rain last night but no storms, thank goodness.

I can lift my rollator up one step by lifting the front bar and setting the front wheels on the higher level but I can't get it up a flight of steps.  I'm thinking of getting a smaller walker without the seat to use when I don't think I'll need to sit down.

Project du Jour is to sort out the small freezer below my fridge.  I suspect there are freezer baggies of leftovers tucked away here and there that need to be used.  Also suspect I'll find some other things tucked away "in case I need them".....and I don't.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Safe and Good Day.

JoanFL

Good morning Jeanne Lee.  How nice that your son is there to help after you recently being in the hospital.

Joy--Good morning.  I hope your granddaughter in SC will be safe.  The plan now is to stay put.

Good morning Linedancer.  Enjoy your RH luncheon.  I continue to pray for your grandson and hope he is safe during the hurricane.

Vanilla-Jackie--Glad you had a successful trip.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  Right now we are going to try to ride it out.  Enjoy your family luncheon.

Gloria--Good morning.  Don't worry about me.   Joe is here to take care of things.

Good morning, Callie.  The hurricane is Matthew--not Michael.:)

When we arrived in the MS car park I approached a lady having a puff on a ciggy outside the building in a kindof  outside hideaway shelter, so went over to speak to her...told her I was new and was here to be shown around, so she told me which entrance door to take and the name of the lady I need to ask for....so we chatted briefly as she told me she was almost 70 now and was diagnosed with Primary Progressive, ( same as me, which is a rarity to not only find someone else with PPMS but to find someone diagnosed so late in life...) just seven years, so she was diagnosed age 63, a year before my diagnoses, she too said how much she hated this disease, hated what it had done to her, how its affected her life....well that I agreed with her on....

Good Morning Everyone! Running late.....will be back later.

Happy Birthday to Phyllis and Amy's Hubby.  Hope both of you have a good one.

Good Morning all, like Hal I am running late. Really didn't want to get up this morning, after having eight hours sleep....made myself a bowl of cream of wheat for breakfast so I am stuffed.

Bis, I feel SO relieved knowing Joe is there with you, as I know how I would feel in your position, and having Gary nearby would be a great consolation. My Dan is more of a dreamer, where Gary is down to earth and tells it like it is.

Phyllis, I know you will have a very Happy Birthday. And having your son take you out for dinner is icing on the cake. I wish you many, many more very Happy days.

Sun, I am so very sorry you have injured your other wing. If your skin is as thin as mine, I know how easily it can tear, and it seems it takes forever for things to heal now. I'm praying for your quick healing dear heart. Don't give up girl.....this too will pass.

I am passing up this mornings games, but I must go down for choir practice at 1:30. I may even stay home for lunch. All I feel like is kicking back in the recliner with a book and more sleep. But I had better get decent street clothes on. I would hate to be caught still walking around in my night gown. So off I go to dress.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

CallieOK

Joan,  I'm praying hard that you will be safe and have no damage from "Matthew" - "Michael" - "Whateveritsnameis".
Also praying that "Nadine" and "he" don't like each other and go their separate ways.

Another round of severe storms is predicted to move through the state later today.  Locations to be affected are more unpredictable than those for the hurricane.
I'm off to the grocery store in case something comes my way.  So far, I've only had enough rain to water the pot garden.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and dry, rocky coast
of Maine.

Lovely day!

I went out for a short while and walked down
to CVS to  pick me up some ice cream...
This is my treat,  because my Internet
went down and was down for a very long
time...   (4-5 hours) ...

I get a wee bit crazed when that happens.
But now that I have my smart phone
and my books on disc player,  I  can
entertain myself.     But getting out to walk
really helped me too.

(I know,  I know,  I have nothing to complain
about...   but I DO, ANYWAY)

Best wishes to all those in the path
of Matthew!!!!

Joan ...  glad to see that your
son is with you now....  Good luck  to
both of you as you see this through.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Joan - Not sure about your decision to ride out the storm!   :( I hope you will be safe. I am SO glad Joe is with you.

My niece, her husband and son live in Daytona Beach and they have been boarding up her house. She still hadn't left when I talked to her awhile ago. I've asked her to come here but  her adult children and grandkids have gone to relatives in Dunellon and they want her to come there.  She's going to call me after she leaves. My brother in Vermont (her Dad) is concerned that if she doesn't leave soon the roadways will be blocked. She also has another house on the inter-coastal and said she doesn't expect it to be there when she gets back.  :(

We're preparing for lots of rain and strong winds, also for power outages. It's already started raining here. Chape finally found gas at one of the Walmarts. The bread aisles in the stores are stripped. He found one bunch of bananas left!  :) They're green but will last longer that way.

Still hoping that the worst of it will stay away from coast.

Hope all of you on the east coast stay safe.

CallieOK

Just read that all of the Florida Theme Parks are closing early and will remain closed until Saturday.  Have to wonder how many tourists that will affect - particularly the ones who aren't familiar with the kind of rain/wind even the outer edges of a hurricane can bring.

It is very warm and "sticky" outside this afternoon.   In the Spring, we would call this a "weather-maker".

Shirley and Lloyd may be getting some stormy stuff, too.

angelface555

Good afternoon from a bright, sunshiny Interior day.

I have an eye exam tomorrow and am not expecting good news, but we shall see!

Joan, Beverly and all those affected or possibly affected by the hurricane, stay safe!

Sun, so nice to again hear from you and sorry your "good" arm was injured! We want you back and healthy!

Amy, I hope your husband has a nice birthday and the trees in your link were bright and vibrant in their colors.

Phyllis, Enjoy your birthday today and your dinner out with David!

And Gloria, Farrah sends her good wishes to Taffy and enjoy your red hat luncheon!

GloriaZ, no Farrah is certainly not dumb, probably why she survived as well as she has.

Good hearing from you Callie and all those I've missed!

Amy

Thank you for all the birthday wishes for hubby. We had a great day going through the Park and enjoying the beautiful colours of the trees,

I won't be on in the morning...we have to leave here 4;30 am to get to the hospital in the city, hubby is having surgery first thing.......will be a 3 hour operation they said .Please keep him in your prayers..

CALLIE  there are a few of those smaller walkers down stairs for anyone who has to use one. There is one that has front wheels  so only have to pick the side with handles up and one with sliders on the bottom and has a basket attached.  I have wondered about using that when when I go to my son's home. Would be easier for everyone except me.

JOAN  so you and Joe are staying in your home? I pray you will be safe. I am so glad he made it there so you are not alone. I do wish you and Joe had left the coast area though.

PATRICIA  those who call animals dumb have never had a pet.

AMY  glad you hubby enjoyed his birthday doing something he enjoyed, especially the day before surgery. I pray God guides the surgeon's hands and success.

Amy, A prayer has been said for your husband, and for you too. I know you too will be suffering while waiting. More prayers will be offered tomorrow too.

Bis and Joe are in my prayers off and on and will continue there. It sounds bad, with mandatory leaving of the area. One report said that Melbourne will be hit the hardest.  Why, they did not say.
As long as we are here, let's dance.
