Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hi Everyone
I was replying to a question if the Vikings arrived in my area, which is the Isle of Man.

There is a lot of history on the Island in relation to the Vikings.  From the way we are governed, to place names, to the culture of the Vikings and the culture of the Isle of Man.

And the invasion by the Vikings  and the defeat of the Manx in about 1079AD took place about two to three miles from where I live and I can see the hill it took place on again from where I live.

HAL - I'd be interested in how your Bible Study is set up since our group has talked quite a bit recently about how to "modernize" the one that is now offered.  I don't think that "modernize" is the correct word to use, since the content is OK, but the manner in which it is offered sure leaves room for updating.
During some of the times when I've been asked to lead the group or t give specific lectures in SS class, several folks have commented "I've never thought about that" in reference to some of the Biblical issues I mentioned in my comments.

Joy

Joan,  I was thinking the same thing as you do about how slow the SS has been all day today.

In fact, it seems most of the boards  have been very slow for a couple days now.  Maybe everyone is enjoying some nice spring weather.

Let's hope for a better showing tomorrow.

JUNE  that might work where you are but not the machines here. What you see is all there is.

KELLY  Hope you had a good day. We finally had a warmer day  and sunshine all day.

CAROL  I never got into genealogy but have a niece who did for awhile.

JOAN  you cranky? That I will never believe.

HAL  at 80° I would be looking for someone to put my AC in. I spent a lot of time outside today. Felt great.

All that fresh air I had today is already having me fighting to keep my eyes open so I will bid you all a good night.

Molly our group is very informal.  We do meet every Thursday at 8:30 and everyone brings what they want to eat.  Usually the first hour is just eating and visiting, although, sometimes we get into the lesson early if someone has found something interesting  in the chapter/verse we study for that week.

Our group is made up of retired/older men.  Originally our group called itself the rusty buckets, then later our leader changed it to "Men Above The Sun"

Our group is very small, sometimes there are only 3-4 in attendance and sometime we have six or seven.  There are only about 4 of us that attend on a regular basis.  And sometimes we have some young men attend because they are out of work.

Dick, our leader, usually sends out what chapter/verses we will be studying along with some suggested questions we should ask as we are reading.  Dick is a retired college professor.  He has a doctorate in insects (cant think of the formal name of people who study insects). (Entomology).  During the actual study part, class, we take turns reading the verses and and give our comments on what we have just read and the group as a whole discuss the verse and ask questions of the parts we are not sure of.  One things is that there are several versions of the bible, as you know, and we all, it seems, have different versions.
I use my IPad and Biblegateway and it has I don't know how many versions you can access and I do at times.  We also have maps and we study the different journeys that the disciples took.  It is very interesting and something that I had never taken the time to actually look to see where all the towns were that are referenced in the bible.

He had a hard time working in teaching in Universities because he admitted to being a Christian, he eventually went to work in the Ag department in government.

I hope I haven't rambled too much and if you would like more information from me, feel free.  That site I referenced is a free site but has a premium program for less that 5 dollars a month that gives you many more references.  If I ever learn how to use it.  You might ask Chap about it, I know my Grandson, a minister, uses it to check references.

Gloria, they are promising us heavy rains starting this weekend and suppose to stick around for a couple of days.  Also flooding.  But so far no storms like we just had.

Good evening to all, Sun is still shining out here, and Gloria is probably sleeping by now.

I am very tired. Spent three and a half hours in the dentist chair. He could not locate a canal to remove the root. Took numerous xrays, and finally located the darn thing. So I am home and ready for an early bed. too much tension for an old lady.

Have a God Blessed night my dear ones. I love you much. June

A good Thursday evening to all.

I want to thank all of you for your kind and so appreciated comments about Michele. We all know the power of prayer and once again it has proven so.

JOAN, I know you can understand what a clear report means.... And I hope and pray YOURS will continue to all be clear for you.  HUGS.

The concern continues for a BIG storm that is headed our way for the next 3 or 4 days.  I was sure hopeful that it would change and not pan out to be what they were fearing. They are saying we could have 14" of snow.....but it remains to be seen if that will pan out or if much of it will be in rain.  My friend is driving to Denver tomorrow from Rock Springd, WY.  I am very worried about her safety.

Pleasant dreams to all.  Sleep well dear friends.

CHUCKLES

Too Expensive

A very cheap man was looking for a gift for a friend. Everything was too expensive, except for a broken glass vase which he could purchase for almost nothing. He asked the store to send it, hoping his friend would think it had been broken in transit.

In due time, the man received an acknowledgement from his friend. "Thanks for the vase," it read. "It was so thoughtful of you to wrap each piece separately."

Food For Thought

My Hand in God's Hand
(by Florence Scripps Kellogg)

Each morning when I wake, I say,
"I place my hand in God's today!"
I know He'll walk close by my side
my every wandering step to guide.

He leads me with the tenderest care
when paths are dark and I despair,
no need for me to understand
if I but hold fast to His Hand.

My hand in His! No surer way
to walk in safety through each day.
By His great bounty I am fed!
Warmed by His love, and comforted.

When at day's end I seek my rest
and realize how much I am blessed,
My thanks pour out to Him, and then
I place my hand in God's again.

GLORIA, Happy Birthday to you and may you enjoy many more.
Hope your weather is nice now. I have a Grand daughter with her husband and daughter visiting  New York at present and she wrote "the sidewalks are covered with tulips and daffodils and cute dogs in coats"

Our days are getting shorter and colder but I do not miss the humidity of Summer.

Good Morning Bis, and Amy and Junee, I woke up about 1 a.m. and could not go back to sleep so got up and did some medical research on the computer and cleaned up a lot of email. I don't know why but I get dozens of repeats of the same information and it takes forever to clean it all out and into the trash.

When I woke up my mind was so full of past history, some happy, some sad, but very busy, so there was no choice but to get up early. So for me this will be a quiet day at home with naps when needed.

Junee, I am sure you will welcome winter in your area, if you dislike humidity as much as I do the coolness will be a blessing.

Amy, I hope you have a fun and restful day with your quilting friends. You certainly deserve a time of relaxation with like-minded friends. You are one hard working lady, and I admire youl

Gloria, May your Birthday be filled with joyful messages from all your family and friends. And hopefully some surprise calls and presents. God Bless you !

As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's pretty cool here (around 34º) but supposed to go up into the mid 60s later today.  I had a restless night last night.  I dreamed some pretty weird dreams and when I dream, I don't wake feeling refreshed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GLORIA, MAY YOU HAVE MANY HAPPY RETURNS!  TAKE THE DAY OFF AND DO WHATEVER YOU'D LIKE TO DO!

I'll be off to feed the doggies and myself soon.  There is already one under my desk and soon the other will be in the doorway breathing heavily.  I really don't know how they know when it's 7 o'clock but they do.

I'll be back later to see what Everyfriend is up to today!

HAL  we have had enough rain here for awhile. A few warm days are in the forecast now an I sure enjoyed being outside yesterday.

KELLY  Moghrey Mie, hope you are having a good day.

JUNE  when you posted last night I was in dreamland.

JOAN  good morning. Too Expensive now that is being too cheap. Thought of the Day, isn't that what they did in China, limiting the number of babies a couple could have to control the population? Thank you for today's goodies.  Thank you for the birthday wishes.

Amy  thank you. Enjoy your day and for a change someone else will do the driving.

JUNEE  thank you. The humidity of humidity is something I dislike, too.

JUNE  wow you are up early. Thank you. One gift I know is on the way across country. Some See's from my daughter.

KELLY thank you. Weather will be good and that is the best gift for today.

JANE  wow I wish I could do what I would like to. I would get in my car and go for a nice long ride in the country. No car and can no longer drive. I think dogs have a built in clock.

BUBBLE  thank you, wonder if I can blow those candles out. Then we can all have a piece of it.

JOY  thank you. Every day we wake up is special after we get older.

PHYLLIS  thank you.

LLOYD  thank you.
