Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Marilyn, sorry to hear Freckles has a UTI. Does she take meds well?

Mary, the wheelchair transport at the airports were wonderful. They whisked us through security in about 3 mins. Didn't have to wait at all.  It was wonderful.  Brian also had a wheelchair available for me on base for a couple activities that involved walking.  I have 1 pic that shows Leyton, the 5 yr old, hitching a ride on Gigi's lap.  Fun for both of us.

We had a brief storm but have no idea how much we got since my rain gauge broke. Probably a qtr inch.  I've taken my sponge bath, dressed and am ready to go get my hair washed.  We're going out for dinner tonight at Ruby Tuesday's, our standby for a night out.  They have such a good salad bar and generally good food at reasonable prices. Our neighbors are going with us.

It is supposed to be in the low 80's with low humidity all weekend. Whoo Hoo!  The humidity at 11:00 last night was 94% according to the forecaster.  Yuck!! Hope everyone is enjoying cooler weather. Hi to all. Sharon

SCFSue

We had what sounded like a torrential down pour in the middle of the night--maybe about 3:00 a.m.  It woke me, so I got up to use the bathroom, didn't turn on the lights, and tripped in the bathroom and cut my left hand on something--couldn't find anything sharp when daylight came, so don't know how that happened.  I've worn a bandaid on since then but have now removed it and it seems to be healing.

This morning I slept late and have lazed around except just returned from a walk down to the corner.  It is a bit dreary out there and cloudy and I think we'll have more rain today.  We're usually in drought by now and I'll have to say this must be the wettest summer since I moved here in 2004.  Very unusual for Alabama.  Our rainy periods are usually December through February or March.

I went to the Farmer's Market with a friend yesterday before going to Kroger, so I have lots of fresh fruit and veggies.  I need to start cooking some of it for lunch--I have enough to last through this next week.  Yesterday I peeled, cut up, and cooked some of the pears which have fallen from my pear tree.  I put about 8 pears out on my deck for the squirrels--most have bad spots and the squirrels will eat what they want and I'll put the rest in my trash can for pick up on Monday.

Happy Saturday, Every Buddy.

Marilyn...hope your pup feels better soon.

Sharon...good news on the reprogramming seeming better for you.

I'm with Sharon on ships....the bigger the better and not at all is even a better choice...like trains...experiences in US and on smaller ships haven't been good.

Beautiful morning here...I need to try and walk a bit, but I may have waited too long.  Cleaned out three more pull out drawers this morning and have bed stuff in the washer and the bed redone for this next week.

Not much else on hand for this day.  I need to start the sprinklers as no rain in the forecast.

jane

JeanneP

Weather is perfect today. Should be out walking but feel to lazy. I never care to go and do much on a Saturday. Places always so crowded. Hope tomorrows weather will be the same. Then all week backin the 90s again.

Jane. More than drawers need doing in my Kitchen and dining room. If only I could just get rid of all the Pots, pans. some gadgets I never use. Also still have all the china, Silver every thing for 50 years ago. Never will use again. Women in family dont cook and sure don't want all the things. Collection in China cabinets. Must be 40 Teapots and all the Glassware . All i brought for UK. Better get onto soon. Think a mother and daughter just opened a Tea Cafe over in the next Village. Maybe should see if they would take the teapots. I always thought I would open one years ago.
JeanneP

jane

Good idea on the teapots. They might want them for decoration, etc.

Do you have a consignment auction place anywhere nearby? You take what you have there and they auction it off.  You get a check.  Yes, here they take 20%, but you're rid of the stuff and get whatever you get.  No work like a yard sale, etc.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm up, showered, dressed, and ready to go to church.  Olyne (my ride to SS and church) called this morning and said she was out late last night and only wanted to go to church and that was fine with me.  She'll be here about 10:45.

I've been reading to pass the time--a detective paperback.  So far pretty interesting and might be able to finish it this afternoon if I don't find something more productive to do.

Happy Sunday, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Sue...enjoy your Church service this morning.

I've been out for my walk and now home to cool off and get some eggs and bacon and toast...Sunday treat.

I've started to pack for our Ohio trip...leaving here Tuesday...but will do laundry tomorrow for those essentials that I need.  It'll all be a casual visit, so no fancy duds needed.   :2funny:

I'm reading this afternoon, too.  I only watch news and sports on TV and I'm not into baseball, so that leaves the news and an hour or so of that is more than enough!  I think I'll turn on a music channel and just veg out with my book.  I don't read heavy, depressing things...just light fluff to enjoy and know nobody is going to die or be killed.  Enough of that on the news!

Hi Gals, we went to church but there was no SS today as it is the 5th Sunday when they have a Fellowship breakfast. John doesn't like to go to those, so we just went to church. Stopped at Lowes on the way back to pick up some more birdseed & suet.

I've put towels in the laundry & started a tuna/macaroni salad. Need to go put it all together now that the macaroni & eggs are cool.  I've also had lunch.  John just put the stuff in the dryer and the undies in the washer for me. I guess he decided he wanted to pack them before I got in gear.  Suits me!!

Lovely day today.  Sue, it's been the rainiest summer we've had since moving here too. Usually, we're complaining about drought.  Nice that you got to the farmers mkt.  What are you making with all your veggies?

Jane, I think it has cooled down some in the MW, so I hope you have a great trip.  How long will you be staying?

Jeanne, I agree with Jane's suggestions.  If that doesn't suit you, donate to one of the charities.

Sharon

Nice here again today. Just getting ready to go over to the grocery store. Don't want to go far n my car as something seems to be wrong with the lock as when I put my key in it just needs  a lot of work turning it before it starts. It is going into the shop Tuesday while I go to movie next door. Car need good check up. I may be looking at what they have in on their Honda Lot.
Now I am reading a book at the moment. It not bad. About a girl 21 gets in a little trouble and the Child service talks her into signing her 4 year and a 6 month children away. She was going to prison for 10 months. Sort of goes through all their lives. The up and downs. Called "Somewhere out there" by Amy Hatvany. Never heard of her but then never heard of 3/4 of the writers now. Seems like all can get book printed.
Off I go.
JeanneP

Beautiful morning here...laundry in and trying to then finish the packing for the Ohio trip.

Stay cool and safe,Buddies, on this last day of July.

What a beautiful day we are having here on the Oregon southern coast. I've been to the gym and taken Freckles for a walk. My next trip out of the house in a few minutes to over to a friend house to have her put a few little Purple stripes in my hair. Never too old for some fun. I want it that way for the wedding to go with my dark purple full-length dress.

Saturday We met up with one of Keith's college roommates. We had a great lunch at the local craft brewery. They sure all organic foods. the  Deep fried chicken with sesame Asian sauce was so delicious. Yesterday was a church and hanging out at home other than walking freckles about 4 times. she escaped Saturday wehile I was washing the windows on my car and took herself for a walk, I was frantic looking for her but finally did  find her. Then yesterday Keith left the sliding door in the bedroom open and she got out again and came around to the front of the house. I saw her out the window and brought her back in.

SCFSue

Hello Every Buddy!  Tim came over this morning to help me with some computer stuff and some paper work.  After he left I called Vanguard for some information (Tim's suggestion) and they said they'd mail it today.  Our Teacher Retirement System where I invested lots of my salary while Bob was receiving his retirement pay has been trying to pay me back on their estimated age of death--which I believe they are under estimating as I'm expecting to live into my late 90's!  So we're having to find new opportunities for that money now.  I'm hoping this new account with Vanguard (I have several with them) will increase my assets.

I've just finished eating a late lunch because of him being here and am planning on my usual lie down with a book.

Jane, have a great trip--and Mary, when are you leaving? And I hope your trip is fantastic!

Marilyn, your lunch out with Keith's classmate sounds great--and I'm very glad that Freckles had the good sense to go to your front door!

Sharon, besides grilled fish I had pear and cottage cheese salad (the pears are from my prolific for the first time in years tree in my back yard).  I also had fresh corn on the cob from the trip to the farmer's market last weekend.  I still have about 4 ears left.

Hello to other Buddies who might be looking in today.  I wish every one WELL!
Sue

SharonE

Hi all.  Marilyn, glad Freckles is safe inside.  That's one reason I love the electronic fence.  If Bunny goes out, she still can't leave the yard without getting zapped and she learned early that she didn't want that.  You're brave to put purple stripes in your hair. Not something I would even think to do, but have fun with it.

Jeanne, hope you get your car running or a new one soon.  Glad the weather is better.

Jane, I'm sure you're busy getting ready to leave. I hope you have a good trip.

Mary, have a wonderful trip to AK. I'm so glad you haven't stopped traveling.  Eat some of that wonderful salmon for me!!

Sue, I hate dealing with investments. They worry me. It's good that you have Tim to advise you. Our money is mostly in annuities.

John got to Colombia safely by about 11:00.  I wrote my church articles this morning.  Had to really improvise as there isn't much going on in August.  I also went over to the Lake House to drop off a donation check to the group that does "Back-to-School" collections.  They collect lots and lots of supplies as well as cash.  I just didn't feel like going to WalMart to buy supplies, so wrote a check.  While I was over there I picked up some books from the free library.  I just finished a pretty good Danielle Steel one called "Precious Gifts".  I've read most of hers, so its hard to find some I haven't.  I really need to go to the library, but was too lazy.  Maybe tomorrow. I need to pick up the book that we are to read for our Sept. church book club.  It is "Bathsheba, the reluctant beauty" by   ? Hunt. I hope they have it and that I don't need to order it.

BTW, did you all know that Walgreen's gives Seniors 20% off the first Tues of the month on everything they buy? That can be quite a savings if you wait and buy then.

I need to take Bunny out for a walk as it is really pretty today. My back hasn't been hurting too much but my hips have. However, it may be that the hips are due to arthritis.  The stimulator only blocks nerve pain.

I hope everyone is having a good day.  Sharon

Marilyn

Oh, my I sure did get in a bunch of typos. I have a program called Grammarly on this machine and they made some of their own corrections. I  don't like those self-correcting programs.

maryz

We're off this morning.  Y'all take good care of yourselves.  I'll check in when I can.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Bon Voyage, Mary!  I know you'll have a great time--and am hoping for fantastic weather for the trip.  BTW, I like your new avatar (is that the right word for picture?)!

Marilyn, I've not noticed many typos in your posts--are you sure you've been leaving them?  Any news on Keith's eyes?

Sharon, I do rely on Tim's advice for investments and also day to day things that I need help with.  I'm fortunate that he lives nearby and is self-employed which makes him fairly available when I need some help.  You've been pretty busy, as usual.

I'm guessing Jane and Ray might be on the road this morning.  I hope they have a safe trip and a nice visit with their family.

Jeanne, that book you're reading sounds like the poor heroine has a miserable life--probably won't have a happy ending.  I often wonder how people like that get so stuck in the wrong choices.  It's a sad situation.

My cleaning ladies came early this morning, about 8:45.  They sure can get things cleaned up in a hurry.  They were off to my neighbor, Libba's house, by about 9:20.  They damp mop my wood floors, dust, sweep, run the vacuum cleaner of the rugs I have out (I still haven't put down the hall runner as I don't have a non-slip pad which I can put under it).  My plan for the rest of the morning is to peel and cut up more green pears and to cook them to an edible state.  I've been enjoying pears and cottage cheese daily for over a week.

Not much else to report--tomorrow I'm getting a much needed haircut--Hurray, hurray!

Sue

Hi Gals, I've been to Walgreens to pick up a few items on their Senior day. Saved about $20!  Also went to the library and put in an order for the Bathsheba book and picked up a couple other books.

The guy who is going to prune the big bushes and trees in back is supposed to be here now. Hope he shows up soon. I think he is just going to look things over and see what needs to be done today.

John found a good partner at the tournament and made 4.5 pts yesterday!  Plans to play with him most of the week.

I took Bunny for a short walk last evening. My back seems to be doing okay.  So I think I am going to commit to the reunion in mid Sept.  It may be a strain, but it will be my last chance probably to see any of these people. I also plan to take a bus up to Chicago to visit Lori and see her new condo.  Not excited about the bus trip, but guess I will do it anyway.

Hope Jane and Mary both have good, safe trips.  I hope they ck in frequently.

Hi to Marilyn, Darlene, Ginny, Joy and all.  BTW yesterday was Ginny's birthday.  Sharon

We're 1/2 way to Ohio.  Rain and construction made for a long day on the road.

Jane

JeanneP

Dropped my car off at Honda today and then went to the Movie across from them. Saw "Dunkirk" It is O.K. They did a good research on it but it was just all the Fighting in the air and the Evacuation . Not type of personal story and very little talking.
Had them go all over my car. I still may buy that little "Smart Car" that honda has. Keep my car I have now and use the smart car just around town. I have always wanted one since I saw them when first out in UK.
Just found a couple of things on my car. Airconditioning and the Key Switch. Key Switch is a $495.00 job but right now it seem to be working O.K It is wearing out. Air Conditioning $139. I will do the AC but hold off on the switch until it acts up again.

That is the best picture yet Mary. You have a great time. Take some pictures.
Going to be only in the 70s for next 2 days. Feels so good to me.

So much construction going on around my town. Wondered why I was seeing and feeling so much dust. I like to open window but right now feel awful if I do. Can taste it in the mornings when I opened them.

Hi Buddies.  I've been out this morning getting a haircut.  One of the Village Friends came to drive me.  She brought a book and sat in her car reading--it is pretty cool here this morning after rain last night.  I had the first appointment, but had to wait a bit for Cynthia to get her towels out, set up her station, and chat with the other operator who was already working.  I didn't mind, but hated to keep the driver waiting.  She was early because she lives in Beauregard, a small community east of here.  She drives her 2 teens to a private high school here in Auburn, so came to pick me up after she dropped them off.

It looks like rain here.  Cloudy and dark and we can always use some rain--although this has been a pretty wet summer.

I hope Jane and Ray get better weather for their trip.  Traveling in rain is not a lot of fun, plus I always worry about the other people driving in the lanes next to me as they often cut in front too close for my comfort.  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a safe trip.

Jeanne, it sounds as if your car is doing OK, but using a smart car for short trips might be a good idea, too.  Do you know anyone who has a smart car?

Sharon, it sounds as if John is having a good time at the tournament.  Have you considered taking a train to Chicago from the reunion?  Then perhaps flying back home from Chicago?  I know there are passengers trains (Amtrak) serving that area with local stops at larger cities.  I enjoy going to New Orleans on Amtrak--although haven't done it since I had to quit driving as Amtrak doesn't go through Auburn anymore--had to drive up to Birmingham for that.

It's time to start fixing my lunch.  I have fresh corn and tomatoes from the farmer's market and will probably fix that with a ground steak patty or maybe frozen salmon.  I still have some poached pears (from my pear tree) which are in small chunks which I'll put in a small dish with some cottage cheese for a salad.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.
Sue

Weather still a little cooler here. Feels better. Would like to see it rain more.

Sue. Now a man down the street has a Smart car. 7 years now. Loves it.  May go and drive it home tomorrow and check it out. Not in the mood today. Still having a BP problem. I have to change from this Dr. All she does is changed Prescription. Never had a problem in the years I have taken the other one. (Given by a dr. now retired.) The young dr. are so different that the old ones. Getting not to trust her.

Jane could get a little rain in Ohio but cooler I think.

Sharan.  That should be a nice trip to Indy for the Anniversary. Will be lots missing now. My Eldest is putting one together for one of hers next year. She lives in the same town which is good.
I could not get a group together anymore. I came to this town in 1965. Friends I made all gone. All the women and men and was close to working Also. I am amazed at the young ages they past. So try to get there and enjoy. Will you husband attend also?

Hi every buddy, Freckles and I had a visit this morning at one of the care homes. We always look forward to this particular visit since we have been going there twice a month for the last 2 years. There were some new people there and one had passed away. That is always sad for us since we come to know each one over the years and/or months we have visited that person.

It is pretty warm today for the coast so after taking her for an early morning walk I am waiting to take her for another until later. I baked a loaf of bread after we came back from our visit. Oh, I do love my new Air fryer. I cooked steak in it last night, It came out so tender and good. Tonight I am cooking chicken in the air fryer.

maryz

Long day of travel, but uneventful. Weather okay, mostly overcast and cool. Drove lots around area. Trying to post a picture on FB, but haven't managed it yet. Using tablet, and won't do much without keyboard.

Jeanne, friend here has Smart Car. Got it mainly to pull behind R V, but she likes it to srive around town.

Sharon, congrats to John.  Glad back iis doing well.

sue, hooray for haircut.

Hugs to all Buddies.

We're here in Ohio and temps are lovely.  A few sprinkles along the way, but that was all.  Lots of traffic around Indianapolis and Columbus.

Good to be here.

Enjoy your visit. Could have nice weather. Always bad traffic goig through Indy. Did you use int 74? You didn't honk..

Hi Gals.  Glad you got your haircut, Sue. Your lunch sounds yummy.  According to Lori, the Mega Bus (not greyhound) is much more comfortable than the Amtrak. I will see.  I am going to Lori's first because of a work conflict the week after for her.

It's very comfortable here but is supposed to rain Fri-Mon to some extent.  The landscape guys I called did come yesterday and got all the bushes and hollies trimmed back. Looks so much better.

Jane, glad it is nice in OH and that you arrived safely.  Traffic in INdy is always heavy, I think.  Have fun with your sis.

Mary, glad you got to AK. Hope you have a great time.

Jeanne, several people around here have Smart Cars. They are cute, but definitely wouldn't want to take them out on the interstates.  No John isn't going with me to the reunion. He thinks other people's reunions are boring.

Marilyn, I heard that both Portland and Seattle set records for high temps and will again today.  You are smart to walk Freckles early and late.  Too bad about losing one of your patients, but I guess that is to be expected.

I've been busy today. I had an eye appt at 10:15. Everything was okay except that a cataract is growing. I'm to see her again in 6 months.  Then I went to a new store, Wireless Medic to have him get my new cell phone up and running. He did it in about 3 minutes and for no charge!  Did I feel stupid.  Then I went to the grocery and have those put away. I got a crab cake for my dinner tonight and some salmon for Sat. night.  Tomorrow evening our SS class is taking a couple that is moving away to a retirement center in a different city out to dinner at the Olive Garden.  One of  the gals is picking me and a couple other singles up, which is nice. They are the first people we met in our church--just happened to sit next to them and got acquainted.  Such a sweet couple.

All for now, Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm doing laundry--am showered and dressed for lunch with Tim and a Kroger trip afterwards.  He'll be here about 11:00.  I had my haircut (which I probably mentioned already on Wednesday--and does it feel good to be all trimmed up and neater!).  Yesterday I went to lunch at Chicken Salad Chick with my Thursday bridge club.  I had a scoop of chicken salad and a small fruit salad for my lunch--pretty tasty, too!  I had so-so cards and didn't play them well, but had fun any way.

I'm doing laundry and still trying to locate my retired Army cousin in Florida as my cousin Martie doesn't have an address for him and I can't find the one I have.  Martie's mother, Anne, the cousin who was like a sister to me, died recently and Martie doesn't know how to reach Fred--who was also a close friend with Anne.  This morning I sent a request to the WVU Alumni directory about Fred.  When he was a senior there, he was the Student Body President.  The person in charge is out of the office until Monday (a long weekend must be nice!), but I left her a message and hope that she'll have a better address for him.  I'll probably dig through some of my old Christmas card lists and hopefully find a current address for him.  He was a career Army officer and like us, he moved around a lot--but I know he retired in Florida.

I hope Jane and Ray are having good weather and lots of fun in Ohio with their relatives.  And I hope every other Buddy is having a good day, nice weather, and enjoying the last month of summer.  I am so glad I am no longer teaching.  School started here yesterday!  Which means the schools will finish by the middle of May.  I hated that when they started it some years ago while I was still working.  Classrooms were stifling in August and usually only one window unit which didn't really cool anything!

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

Marilyn

Good Morning, I was so foggy here this morning but it lifted enough by 6:15 that I went to the gym an hour earlier than I usually go. After having breakfast I took Freckles for an early walk. I enjoy the cool morning air for a nice brisk walk with her.

This evening, it is the monthly Wine Walk in Coos Bay, Furry Friends sets up a table at one of the appliance stores where we set up a table with a donation jar and a poster with pictures of the places we take the dogs. I am in charge of seeing that it is set up and that there are two teams to showcase their dogs. This month it is my turn with another team to sit there for two hours, let people pet out dogs and tell them about Furry Friends.
