Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

A great song by a highly underrated artist. Narvel put out quite a few singles and albums from the 60s through 80s but apparently never hit it big despite his vocal talents. His biggest hit was a cover of "Reconsider Me", which hit #2 on the country chart and #1 on the pop chart in 1975.

Oldiesmann

The big hit by Narvel Felts that I mentioned in my last post. This guy sure could sing.

"In the Evening By the Moonlight"
For reasons I don't understand, I often dream of an old song from the past, being sung by someone. Usually this dream is right before I wake, so the song stays with me all day. Not a lot of recordings of this oldie, which is usually done in Barber Shop Quartette style.  The best I could find was this one by a Lawrence Welk quartette.

Oldiesmann

A fun upbeat Latin tune from 1958. This was written by Ernesto Hernandez and originally recorded by Brazilian group Grupo O Passos no Chôro way back in 1916.

Marilyne

I liked this song when it was popular in 1973,  but hearing it again today, 55+ years later, the lyrics now have real meaning to me.  It's a beautiful uplifting song of hope for the unknown future ahead.
Beyond The Blue Horizon, by Lou Christy

Oldiesmann

I love Lou Christie's version of that song. Michael Nesmith (of The Monkees) also did a version of it with The First National Band in 1970.

Oldiesmann

A song that was a hit for an Elvis soundalike. Elvis originally recorded this, and his version was released as a single first, but the flip side of that single, "Kiss Me Quick", ended up becoming the hit, and Elvis' version of this didn't even hit the top 100.

MarsGal

Sorry Michael, I don't equate Terry Stafford with Elvis. Unlike many others, I did not care for Elvis. The only Elvis movie I actually saw was the only one I know of that he did not sing in it, Flaming Star. Did he sing in Charro? I didn't even know he was in that one, never saw it.

MarsGal

I do not remember hearing this one, but Pete Seeger set to music Welsh poet Idris Davies' The Bells of Rhymney. This is John Denver's rendition and explanation.

Rhymney is near where my Mom was born and raised in Merthyr Tydfil.

Great song. Although it's probably his best known song (and led to his nickname), it wasn't his biggest hit. This one was. This hit the top 5 in the US, Canada and the UK - five years after "Ain't Got No Home". Quite a comeback.

Oldiesmann

Found this recently. This was written and originally recorded by Jesse Winchester in 1970 and has been covered by a number of artists - Don Henley, Joan Baez, Ralph Stanley and The Everly Brothers among others. This version is from 1972. John Henry Kurtz was a singer-songwriter who recorded the original version of "Drift Away", which was a huge hit for Dobie Gray.
