Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Jeanne - The Lawrence Welk Show, is always a favorite, with those who remember and miss the old music. It hasn't been shown on our PBS channels here, for many years.  You were fortunate to have enjoyed it for a much longer time.

Tonight we watched a bunch of HGTV episodes of Tiny Houses.  Amazing to me that people want to live in those small cramped spaces, and sleep in the lofts where your head is only about a foot from the ceiling!  I would last about five minutes in one of those cramped sleeping lofts! :yikes:

Then we switched to Amazon, and continued on with the series, The Man in the High Castle.  We watched episode #8 tonight, so only have two more to go to complete this season.  I like it more than I thought I would, and will be looking forward to more, coming up in a few months. Very exciting, and definitely not the same old/same old!

CallieOK

Hooray!    Masterpiece Classic and Indian Summers, Season Two both begin tonight on my PBS station.

Marilyne,  I agree about those tiny houses - particularly when there are two people living in one.
I understand the loft beds are popular among young people living in cramped apartments.  I'd sleep on the floor!!!!

Marilyne

Good morning Callie:  Thanks for the reminder about Indian Summers, returning tonight on PBS.  I checked my listings, and see that it isn't on here until 10:00 PM, so I plan to catch it later in the week, On Demand.

I think the "Tiny Homes", are just a trendy thing right now, but the concept won't last over time.  As you said, it would be doable for a single person, but many of these buyers are couples, with a child and a big dog! No bathtub, no closets, and no kitchen appliances except a microwave and a fridge that's small enough to fit into a drawer!

Sandy

What really galls me on "Tiny Homes" is when more
the one person chooses to live in one.     Especially when
"families" decide to  buy one and cram their family with 2 or 3
kid, into such a small space.

My daughter Kelly would love to have one when
the kids are gone.   (Just enough space for ONE)

************************

I am watching "One Mississippi"  on Amazon
right now.

It is "This semi-autobiographical dark comedy starring Tig Notaro follows her as she returns to her hometown after the sudden death of her mother.

Still reeling from her own declining health problems, Tig struggles to find her footing with the loss of the one person in her life who understood her. All while dealing with her clingy girlfriend and her dysfunctional family

**********

This is one that started slower then I like but after
a few episodes,  I really got to like it,  a lot!

I just could not get to like Watching "Indian Summers"  I really did enjoy watching "Churchill Secret" Last night. Acting was so fantastic. He took of Churchill like was watching the real person.  Now him having that stroke. In all the years I followed Churchill life I never know about that 3 month time.  Really was kept a secret.
JeanneP

FlaJean

JeanneP, I also really enjoyed Churchill's Secret, good acting and so interesting.  I just couldn't get into Indian Summers either.  I'm sure it is a good program but it just didn't interest me at all.

Marilyne

Jeanne - Churchill's Secret sounds good.  Here in the US, we were great admirer's of Churchill.

I'm looking forward to the new season of Dancing With The Stars, which starts tonight. They have an interesting selection of celebrities this time, who will be fun to watch . . . former Texas Governor Rick Perry, as well as the now infamous Olympic swimmer, Ryan Lochte.  Also, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, and Maureen McCormack, who played Marsha, so many years ago, on "The Brady Bunch".  Is anyone else going to join me this season?? :)

Tomereader1

Naturally I DVR'd "Churchill's Secret" and also "Indian Summers".   I had watched the series previously, and in my opinion, if you had not watched before, it probably would not be an interesting viewing experience. I'm going to have to make some time to actually "watch" some of the series I have DVR'd, as I'm running out of room again!

Sandy

I normally do not watch dancing with the stars,
but I might tune in tonight to see the first show.

Next week many of the new September shows will be
starting..   That should be fun trying to determine which
ones I am going to want to see.

I really enjoyed "Churchill's Secret" - particularly the "behind the scenes" comments that followed.  Interesting that the nurse who looked after him was the only fictional character.
However,  I only lasted about 10 minutes into "Indian Summers".  Looks as if this series will be too bloody for my tastes.

Marilyne,  I'll join you for DWTS tonight. Wonder if Ryan Lochte was booked before or after the Olympics?

Sandy, my dvr is going to be busy in the coming weeks - 'specially on Sunday nights.  Sometimes, I have to look for a later re-broadcast to record because I can't record two shows and watch a third one at the same time.  Don't have ti-vo - or whatever that's called.

Lindancer

Marilyne, I also will be watching DWTS, I will be watching The women  from Taxie, I cannot think of her name,   I met her when we went into the city, and saw the old Jack Ford and Alley morning show., many years ago.  Sara Fergerson was also on the show that day,  she gave us all a comera. I think Marilyn H. gave us a cookbook. I still cannot think of her full name.

The gal from Taxi is
Marilu Henner ....   She also has one of
those minds that  can remember everything...

(I am glad that I do not have one of those!!!)

Thanks, Sandy, I did have the MH right.  this old 92 year old brain is not what it use to be.  I need all the help I can get.

All I did was Google  "IMDB Taxi"
and up popped her name.

IMDB = "Internet Movie Data Base"   and
gives  most information on the cast and characters
of Movies and TV shows.

I use it all the time to "REMEMBER"...

Lots of unexpected excitement on DWTS last night! A group of people were there to protest against Ryan Lochte being a contestant on the show.  They were wearing T-shirts that said something like, "No Lochte", with a red line through the name.  Two guys stormed the stage and tried to attack him, but security was quick, and stopped them.  Everyone looked shocked, and shaken up.

I felt bad for Lochte.  I seems that nobody forgives anymore. When someone makes a bad mistake in judgment, or does something stupid when drunk, most people want the MAXIMUM punishment possible. They want the person to pay, pay, pay, forever. They never forgive. :(  No second chances - even when the person has never done anything before to warrant such hatred.

Anyway, I thought it was a good show, and everyone did a decent job of dancing. The "little person" was pretty brave to get out there with all those perfect bodies. i really admire her.

Also - I was impressed with Rick Perry!  Who knew, that the man had such a great personality!  I never really paid any attention to him when he was one of the many hopeful presidential candidates.

Lindancer

Marilyne, I agree with everything your wrote. I think we all have made some mistakes in life, but we grown from them. Of course he did make a big one, and is going to suffer from it the rest of his life. I also was a nice suprise with Rick Perry. Otherwise it was a good show.

If he had only damaged himself it would be different but his lies involved his friends and team mates.  And he not only shamed them but the entire American Olympic delegation, and his country, and his family, and many more.  I'm sorry but it is difficult to forgive that so soon and then applaud him on a TV show.

I still wonder if he was booked before the Olympics and DWTS couldn't get out of the contract.

Otherwise,  good show!

Sandy

One way to protest Lochte,
is to simply not vote for him.

Case closed.

Good for Lochte for allowing us this opportunity
to vote for him or against him,   if we choose to do
so.

Protest votes are very common in this country.
And this is the season for them!

For all the "Mad Men"  fans, AMC.com is running the entire series from the beginning.

Marilyne

Thanks Tome - I hope others will enjoy my all time favorite! :)  If you have Netflix, you can "binge-watch" all seven seasons with no commercials!

There's a good article in today's paper, on The Light Between Oceans, which is opening here tomorrow.  I loved the book, and hope to see the movie while it's playing in theaters.  According to this short review, it's a great adaptation of the book, and is already being touted as an Academy Award contender.  The article also talked about how very few good solid dramas are being produced by the movie companies now, and those that are, are usually adapted from books.

JeanneP

I loved the book and also the movie was in town last week but only showed at the 7pm and 9pm shows. So I am hoping that the Art Theatre here will show it soon. If a movie does well at the big theater then they will pick it up. Otherwise will wait and the Library will get the DVD

I got an email from Netflix today. Longmire, Season 5, starts on Friday, Sept. 23.  I'm looking forward to it.

I also got the email from Netflix, about the return of Longmire.  I'm looking forward to it, but wondering how long the break has been?  We only discovered Longmire last winter, so I don't know when the original series started or ended?  Just curious, so I'll know what to expect as far as the aging of the characters is concerned! ::)

Marilyne

Lots of college football on TV today. AJ likes the college games, so he's been switching back and forth all day. Stanford and USC are playing right now - but so is The World Cup of Hockey!  In this house, hockey takes precedence over every other sport, so he's watching that at the moment.

In less than an hour, I plan to retire to the bedroom, and watch From Here to Eternity, on my local PBS channel.    It's one of my favorite movies, so I never miss a chance to see it!  I hope that some of you also have it on your PBS channel, and will enjoy it along with me. :)

Mary.  I watch a lot of cooking on TV. Love to see that one but never seen it advertised. What station is in on?
JeanneP

maryz

Jeanne, it's on QVC - one of the shopping channels.

maryz - That's exciting news!  I will definitely be watching QVC, in anticipation of seeing your nephew's show!  Mac and cheese, is one of our favorites, so I'm always looking for new and different recipes.  Philly Cheese Steak Mac, sounds delicious.  I'm going to check the time it will be shown here in the west, and record the two hours, in case I miss it.
