Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

HOT...HOT..here.....

maryz

From what she's posting on Facebook, it looks like Sharon and John are moving to a smaller apartment in their complex. I know that's a hard job.

All doing well here. At this point, just our usual summer heat - highs around 90.

Stay cool, Buddies!

diglady

Alpiner, Please get longer cannulas. As I said I use 25ft cannula around the house. And to that I add a 14 ft one for showering. I use 7 ft cannulas for the portable.  It is hot here but we finally got rain- wonderful rain!!

jane

DigLady....GOOD advice to Alpiner.

Maryz...I saw that, too, on Facebook that they were moving to a different place in the same complex...and maybe the same bldg?  I hope they're taking it easy in the awful heat.

Darlene...I know you know how to care for yourself and are staying in the AC.  I'm sure going to be doing that as that heat dome moves up over us, too.

Hope everyone is doing ok and staying hydrated and cool.

jane

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone...Yes Jane I,m good at staying cool...had a nice visit from 2 of my grown granddaughters today....miss the little ones...but they promised to bring them next visit...my sister in law..age 94 passed away a few days ago...will be graveside...ashes.....I will probably sit in my vehicle...hot even with umbrella...hope everyone is well and staying. Cool...have a great evening....

jane

Darlene....GOOD idea to sit in the car in AC for your SIL's service.  They've had a lot of warnings here and I'm sure you all are inundated with warnings.

Sharon...hope you're about finished with preparing to move.  Will you have help?

ALL of our Buddies need to stay hydrated and cool.

jane

MaryPage

I feel we have been the most fortunate people on the planet in that we have been able to stay inside and stay cool and comfortable.  We get warned of storms, but most of them never assemble here. I am able to keep up with all of my beloved family, Chip keeps the provisions coming in, and all is well.
I have been more dismayed reading Elizabeth Kolbert's piece in the July third issue of The New Yorker than any other bit of news lately.
It would seem death to our species will come in the form of a trillion little shards of plastic.  Well, it figures.

jane

MaryPage....you are so right about us being so fortunate to be able to be in cool air in this awful heat and humidity.

We are blessed.

jane

I definitely stay in the a/c when at all possible.  Having said that, it's been a busy and weird week.

On Monday evening, one of my gold crowns (probably 50 years in place) fell out.  I didn't bite on it with any pressure, so saved it intact. The lower back molar, from whence it came, seemed to be intact, and nothing hurt. Margaret got me in to see the dentist this morning.  Of course he didn't know what he'd find and what would need to be done.  Wonder of wonders, he was able to just clean and reseat the crown, tell me to call if I had any more problems, and sent me on my way. I have a regular cleaning appointment in two weeks, and he'll check it again then.

On Wednesday, I had my 3-month checkup with the cardiologist. He said all looked good, reduced my taking diuretics to four days a week, and sent me on my way.

Thursday was just for fun - a haircut, followed by my mani/pedi. Then we went out to lunch to a relocated-and-enlarged seafood restaurant. Good all around.

All-in-all, a really busy three days for me and daughter Margaret (who has to do all the transportation, etc.).  But with good outcomes all around.

I certainly have been staying indoors otherwise.  This heat is nothing to mess around with.

Stay cool, Buddies!

Jane, I am confused, but then that is a normal state of being these days.  I am on the list at my pulmonologist's to get one of those small, portable oxygen machines.
Are you telling me Medicare will not pay for that?  Mebbe my Blue Cross/Blue Shield FEP will.  Oh well, I'll find out eventually, won't I!  I am sorry they would not pay for it for Ray.  Honestly, the world I find myself living in is TOO MUCH!  All of a sudden like, a new car costs many times what my first (post World War II G.I.Bill) brand new house cost!  You KNOW what a new car costs: that new house cost $12,500.00!  I swear.  Our first brand new car was a racing green 1950 Plymouth two-door sedan, remember those? and it cost  $1,650.00! Now most of my thirteen granddaughters earn six figure incomes and I am stuck in a five figure one and a new car is out of reach for me.  Oh well, I no longer drive anyway.  Haven't done for over ten years now.
Chip does all of the driving.  Or one of the girls.

diglady

Mary Page. I have the large and small 02 concentrator. Medicare pays for them--not purchase but monthly rental. I doubt Medicare will pay for purchase. The company I use is Inogen --is wonderful! Run/owned by a woman. They supply me with all cannulas, power cords, connectors and whatever else is necessary. They have a 24hour line and things are delivered to me often overnight but usually 2-3 days.
BTW ask for the BIG batteries for the portable, Small ones work for about 2 hours. Big one about 5 hours.
Here is the phone number for you to give to your Doc:: 877-466-4364
Good luck and happy breathing!

MaryPage

Thank you so much, Diglady.
I will ask my lung doctor's gal who takes care of my current oxygen needs, which includes all of the equipment that goes with also, the very next time I go.  I note you are in Arizona, while I live in Maryland, so possibly we are not able to use the same suppliers.
I know almost nothing about it all, as it happens, because one of my sons has taken charge from the git go.  He always seems to understand how things work, while I almost never do.  I will let you know how this works out, and I really appreciate your input.

jane

Dig Lady....GOOD advice.  We dealt with Inogen, too, but were never aware Medicare would have paid for a monthly rental on the portable.  They did for the large concentrators and all the tubing, and delivery of the oxygen "tanks" we had to connect him to and take with us when I had to take him some distance for doctors.  I'd load a full one for him in the front seat and put 3 or 4 in the trunk....because what to do if we ran out?

It's cooler here...low 80s, but still feels oppressive to me.  I went to the hospital this morning for a lab test for Dr. Feronni to make sure I don't have an infection before next surgery on the 10th of August.

I'll have to look back and see if I told you all about "the wedding" on Sat. night.Nope, I didn't.

Soooo....it's 90+ degrees at 4:00 pm for the ceremony.  We arrived about 3:30 to a place in the country that used to be a gym.  We're informed the ceremony will be in the field behind the gym.  So, a shuttle bus takes people down the hill to the "field."  Yep..a field....NO tents or shade.  The "rows" were flat piece of wood wrapped in plastic and sitting on large round pieces of wood.  There were some metal folding chairs which Gary, Kathy, and I grabbed because they had backs.  So...none of us knew we needed hats or sunscreen...and it was bloody hot.  Gary's been told by his oncologist to stay out of the sun.  Hard to do when that's the ONLY viable option by the time you realize what's going on.  Then, about 4:35 the ceremony is over....and we're shuttled back up to the gym.  None of the bridal party appears, even though there are places for them on the stage.  Nope...it seems they had all taken another "party bus" off back to our town to go to a place there.  We learned this when his mother told us she'd told them to be back by 6:15 for dinner and dancing.   Yep. the hot roast beef and pork loin were simmering away under those heated serving canisters.

We got bored and left and went to another town for supper.   :idiot2:  8)

I guess that's the "Modern" way for weddings and receptions these days.

jane

maryz

jane - how rude (no other word for it) not to let guests know about ALL the arrangements.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

That was our feelings, too, Mary.

Cottoncandy

Good morning buddies..I would agree on comments about the wedding..things are surely done different these days..we are still having 103 and 104 temperatures...can't do much outside ...zaps your energy fast..I am trying to keep water in my bird baths and sugar water for my hummers..But this to shall pass...hope all reading is well and have cooler temps...take care

MaryPage

I have a daughter who lives in Arizona, but she has not been saying much about how it is out there lately.  Our entire clan has been sweating out my son Rob's hip replacement and that has been our email conversational topic lately.
Pam is a vet with an office in Sierra Vista and a post office box in Hereford and a ranch in Bisbie.  I have never been to Arizona, so more than that I cannot say.

alpiner1

I had a dr.'s appt. today with hope I would get a prescription to take to a medical supply store & get a small oxygen concentrator  .  The prescription did not have all the details they needed to for me to get the  concentrator .  We  got written detailed requirements & went back to the dr.'s office .  They will mail the needed information  .I  also asked about a handicap placard for our car for parking .  We were given the needed form & we went to the DMV but there was a line out the door so we will go in a morning .

jane

Alpiner...it sounds as if you're getting things in order.
The handicapped placard is a blessing.

MaryPage & Darlene....wow....don't know how anyone does anything in those TX and AZ  temps.

I'm finally caught up on all my doc appts before the surgery next Thursday.

Take care and stay cool.

jane

Hi Gals, I truly haven't forgotten you, but I just have been so busy, I hadn't been in to read till today. As you've heard from FB, we are moving from our villa to a 1 bdrm deluxe apt just up the road and in the same Senior Center. It has required a lot of downsizing, getting rid of furniture and "stuff" that we didn't need or have room for.. Habitat for Humanity is coming Sat for several large pieces of furniture and Salvation Army the day after we move to pick up boxes of clothes, household goods, etc. The movers are going to pack some of that up for us, so we scheduled the pickup for the day after the move.  We've sold a couple things, but not much. One WOMAN is coming Monday to look at and hopefully take 2 sets of custom drapes & rods. I tried to take two expensive dresses that I had bought for grandkids weddings to a consignment store, but they wouldn't take them. It looked like most of their stuff was for younger women and had short skirts, etc. That was a bummer because I'll never wear them again.  The admin still hasn't given us the keys to the new apt, so we haven't been able to take anything over.

As to the new furbaby, she was a love, but she wasn't housebroken at all at almost 6 yrs old and piddled everywhere, so we took her back a week after we got her. I hated to do that because she was so sweet and a cuddler, etc, but I just couldn't put up with the accidents.

I did manage to get the August newsletter out on time, as well as Sunday church bulletins and 2 Celebration of Life bulletins for members who have died recently.  So you can see I have been busy.

I was so sorry to hear of all the problems everyone is having with oxygen, etc. and health is general. It was so sad to hear about Shirley.

Mary Page, that is awful that you are afraid to see your grand and great grand kids because of germs! I'd rather die than give that up, although I only see mine once a year.

Melanie is still seeing her grands in spite of her compromised immune system. She has had more radiation and is on a high dose of oral chemo, but seems to be doing well.

Lori still hasn't found a new job, although she is to hear tomorrow if she did or didn't get one she has been interviewing for.

Brian is working for Boeing now and likes it pretty well but he has to travel quite a bit. We had hoped he could come help us with the move, but he was scheduled to travel that weekend.

Jane, I hope you are doing okay in your battle with cancer again. I couldn't quite tell from your comments.

John sees the eye dr. tomorrow, so we may know something more about his eyes then. He felt rather nervous about driving and has turned in his driver's license. That means I am doing all the errands and driving him to his Dr's appts which would be fine if I didn't have so much else on my plate.

Oh yes, my computer broke down and I had to buy a new one during all this too.

Mary, I'm glad you got to go down to the beach with the family again and hope it won't be the last time. Maybe you'll have to have a family reunion around Chattanooga.

Darlene, I don't envy your heat or Alpine's.  I hope your son is winning his battle with cancer. He's still in my prayers.

Well, I just got back from dinner and am ready to watch the news and then read before bed.
I hope you all stay well and cool.  We cooled down to the 80's today! A real cold front, but a brief one.

So good to hear from you, Sharon!  I don't envy you your job of getting ready to move.

I need to get dressed to go out in public and pick up a few items for the rainy weekend.

Stay safe and well, Buddies!

Good Morning, Buddies!

It seems the promised rain had not yet made it's way here, so the weatherguessers have now said this afternoon and tomorrow.  Whenever, it will be needed.

Nothing else exciting here.  I need to catch up on my bookkeeping and get all of that in order.

I was sorry to see the US Women's Soccer be eliminated from World Cup.  Too many young players I think and so we'll hope for next year.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Our little town had their yearly "Old Settlers DAY YESTERDAY..I braved the hot temps to at least go with daughter to watch parade..was surprised to see so many people out...mostly younger ones....Sharon..I see you are fixing to move to a smaller apt....I would like to do that..It's hard keeping up a 3 BR 3 baths...would simply like a 1 bed room cabin....but will probably not happen..my son Johnny is doing fairly well...he has sold his auto body shop and is retiring...so he's less stressful..thank you for asking and the prayers..Hi Jane..Mary..ALPINER and others looking in...have a restful rest of day..may our GOD meet all our needs

jane

Darlene...glad to hear Johnny is doing well...and retired!

Sharon....a 6 yr old untrained dog would not be for me either.

The forecast of rain has been a dud...a couple of dribbles here and there.

Stay cool and safe,

Jane

Not goin to complain today...just thank you GOD for your many blessings

I still haven't got the smaller oxygen concentrator . My primary care doctor wants me to have a 2 litr. constant flow machine .  The medical supply store didn't have  it .  I got a call from my pulmonary doctor & will see him later this month .   The person calling said they will take care of getting me the machine  .  .

diglady

Alpiner,My Inogen: the small (portable) concentrator supplies 02 on demand. The large one (stand alone) supplies 02 constantly.
I have both large and small I don't notice a difference in delivery.
I am sorry you are going thru this hassle. My Doc called the 02 concentrator company (Inogen) and 2 days later I had the machine with all the supplies.

Just to stay on record here, I have not yet received a small, portable oxygen dispenser, either. I still have my large one, and five (5) canisters, which we take everywhere we take me.  Not all five, of course:  just one at a time.  We take those that are empty of oxygen when I visit my pulmonologist, and they refill them for us.

Daughter Becky is here from Kansas City, Missouri taking care of me for two weeks while son Delmore (Chip) visits his sweetheart in Seattle.  Becky & I are having a lovely visit together.

Yesterday morning, she drove me for all of two minutes over to the other side of our community to watch a Pickle Ball game.  Games, actually.  Great fun, and the participants were wonderful at explaining the game to me.  I loved the rackets and them.  Great fun!

jane

Sunday greetings!  We're cool and a bit of drizzle from time to time.

Patricia, my niece who was here for my surgery, is on her way home to N. Wisc.  She did some weed pulling and painting some posts, etc on the front porch.  It looks so clean and wonderful.

Nothing else new...3 weeks with restrictions on what I can lift, etc.  Good excuse to be lazy! :smitten:

MaryPage...nice to have daughter with you while Chip is off on holiday.

Darlene...better weather for you, I hope.

Alpiner...hope the oxygen gets sorted out soon.

Jane

Got out today for a couple errands before the 90+ temps start tomorrow for a week.  School starts here Monday, of course!! 8)

I did get the car filled up with gas.  Ray never liked us to leave the tank below 1/2 full in case we had to make an emergency trip to Chicago.  That fear is no longer here, but old habits are hard to break. ;D

Nothing exciting here...our "Friday night group" is going to Chinese restaurant tonight which I like...and always have enough to take home for a couple meals later.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane
