jane, hope you're getting your strength back.  Laundry can always go slowly - fortunately!

Always good to hear from folks in here.  Nothing exciting going on around here. Our temps have finally turned seasonal - highs in the mid-to-upper 60s. Hopefully no more swings up to 80 before spring.

I can't believe it's nearly Thanksgiving - although it is early this year. I've probably told this story before, but John was born on 29 November 1934, which was Thanksgiving that year, but his birthday was never on Thanksgiving Day again. When Thnx was originally designated, it was on the LAST Thursday in November - to set off the Xmas shopping season. But a year or so later, during the Depression, it was changed to the FOURTH Thursday in November, to lengthen the shopping season and stimulate the economy.  So the closest his b-day could come after that was on Thnx Friday.  Of course, now, the Xmas shopping season starts after Labor Day (almost).

For a variety of reasons, my immediate family has it's Thnx get-together and eating on the Saturday after the official Thnx.  Whatever you and your do, enjoy your time together.

I tried to respond yesterday, but my internet wasn't working here where my laptop is.    >:(

Today it's fine.

Maryz...I'd written it was so good to see you posting and remember the good visits Ray and I had with you and John in Weslaco at that Mexican restaurant and in Dubuque.

I've been enjoying this week without having to go for Lab work and not spending tomorrow at the Cancer Center.  I did go to the dermatologist and he zapped a couple spots on my back and on my face.  He assured me they weren't pre Melanoma .  He says they're seeing more and more melanoma.

I got an email saying there's more and more flu and colds in the area.  Be careful out there!

Hi Buddies....not much going. On with me...routine stuff...Jane Glad you are getting a break from the lab...I also had to have a spot zapped on my nose...Just stayed in the sun too much when younger..MaryZ...my family is also having turkey day After Thanksgiving....Im washing load of towels...so better get off here...stay safe and well

jane

Darlene...It's good to have these yearly derm checks, I think.

Nothing new here with me, either.  I'm trying to catch up with my "bookkeeping" that I got so far behind on while doing the weekly treatments.

I'm sneezing a lot this morning...maybe allergies/maybe a cold???  ::)  ::)

Stay well,

jane

Now that we've all made it thru Thanksgiving, I'm going to tell you about my hearing aid appointment.  I found a Connect Hearing office fairly close to me, and since I had already had two audiology tests, both showing basically the same results, we just did the instructions and put me in their computer, set the aids, and did the paperwork $$$. It was expensive, but not as expensive as I thought it would be for two hearing aids.  They are, by the way, the Phonak that most of you recommended. I go next week for the first "tune up" or whatever it's called.  So far they are working really well, but the one in the left ear does seem to make that ear itch.  I'll ask questions about that. They are very small, and almost invisible, easy to put in and remove.  I got the volume adjusted this morning.  It was magnifying every sound till I was about to go bonkers! Thanks for all your help!

jane

Tome...I had that, too, and she said part of it is my hair which touches the "hearer" behind my ear and part is getting used to hearing all the noises...the cracking of my knees when I get up, etc.  I guess I'll get used to it.  Living alone, it's hard to tell if they're "working," but my niece who was with me, assures me they are....I can hear her that I absolutely couldn't before.  Yes, they are expensive, but I deserve it! ;D

It was a chilly 14 this morning, but up to 22 now.  I haven't gotten any shots yet...going for flu today...lots in this area...and then in a couple weeks the covid and then later the RSV.  I need to space them out because of the inflammation caused by the cancer treatments, according to my urologist.

Take care and stay safe and well.

Jane did you get the phonak hearing aides .Ive got to get a pair soon...if you don't mind me asking what approx did you have to pay for them...I have a very sick son with pneumonia...appreciate your prayers for recovery...Have a great day...

maryz

Darlene, hope your son is well quickly.

Tome and jean, glad your hearing aids are working well for you.  Fortunately, I haven't needed them, so far.

All quiet here - even the weather.  Yesterday and today are unseasonably cold, with highs only in the 40s (we usually don't get that until January). But it's supposed to gradually "warm" up over the rest of the week - to our normal highs around 60. That will bring some much-needed rain, though.

Hope the rest of the week goes well for all the Buddies!

CottonCandy, the price on the Phonak, the simplest one, since my insurance and or Medicare does not pay was $2,000 for the pair.  They give a discount if your ins. doesnt pay.  The actual price for this Standard version is $3,400.
There is an Advanced version; a Premium version and an Elite version which is top of the line.  Pricing goes up with each level.

Good morning..Jane I did receive your email...thx so much...also thanks to those who commented on the hearing aides..Have a great day

And another Monday rolls around.  It's quite mild for Dec. here...low 30s and snow has all melted except for the edges of the roads.

Nothing much going on here...just being lazy.  I put up a few decorations for winter...snowmen, etc.  Every year I do less and less.  With no one here and flying to Ohio for Christmas, it doesn't seem to be worth the bother.

My finger joints are achy as heck, so this won't ramble on too much.

Tomorrow is a "jane's treat"....a pedi.  Next week a haircut and a massage.  My presents to myself, for sure!

Lots of covid and flu around...so stay safe wherever you are.

jane

maryz

jane, glad to hear you're treating yourself. I get my mani/pedi/haircut about once a month, but unfortunately, I haven't had a good massage in years. I know I couldn't turn over on the table now.

As far as I know, no covid or flu among the residents here. But I did get the latest covid booster last week.  No side effects, except a sore arm for a couple of days.

Folks are decorating around here - at least some are. John and I quit decorating when the grandkids started getting older. Neither one of us were getting any pleasure from it, so we stopped. Glad to see others enjoy it, though.

Our big family get-togethers are Thanksgiving weekend and our week at the beach. We've never done a lot at Xmas-time. The other day, I realized that I had gotten to see my entire immediate family (children, grands, in-laws, and great-grands) Thnx weekend. Not all at once, but over the course of two days.  Quite a treat!

Happy Holidays, Buddies!

[size 6]Hi everyone. You probably thought I dropped off the face of the earth. I have just been so busy.
Tomorrow, I'm having a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I just took the first meds. No solid foods all day.  We always put up our creche but don't have a regular tree this year. We bought a 2 ft. made from colored glass balls and sits on a small table. We also bought a new wreathe. We had to throw our old one out as it was quite large and lighted. That doesn't work on an apt door.

I'm glad for those of you who got the Phonak hearing aids and that you like them. One doesn't realize how isolating hear loss is until you get aids and are now able to be part of the group.

I am on 2 councils now in addition to doing the news letter and the church bulletin. I also play bridge 2 afternoons a week and a couple weeks ago started PT. Since John quit driving, I have to do all the grocery shopping, take him to get his hair cut and both of us to the library

Thanksgiving wasn't much. We had dinner with friends in the dining hall. Mary, you were so lucky to see everyone over the holiday. I sort of saw all mine at the wedding, but didn't get to spend much time with them due to my hospitalization.

Jane, I'm so glad you're getting a break from the treatments etc. Great that you are treating yourself

John sees the eye dr. tomorrow. Crossed fingers.  We are both trying out the medical transport tomorrow since I'm not allowed to drive after my procedure.

Nothing much new going on here.  Take care of yourselves and enjoy the coming holiday.

Cool greetings from Iowa. We're still in the high 20s and the wind is slowly dying down.  It was quite strong Fri and Sat.

Tomorrow ADT is suppose to come by and do an upgrade on my alarm system that's supposed to also lower my quarterly payment.

Nothing going on here.  Stay safe and healthy!

Jane

Hi Buddies...supposed to be a light freeze here tonight..our first...we hardly ever get snow..last was 2020...seems like lot of people been sick with bad cough..flu symptoms in my area...I am doing most my shopping on line..how did we manage before Amazon..lol..Have a question...feel free not to respond...BUT..is your Drs still recommend getting colonoscopies..there should be an age when one can stop ...unless they have digestive problems...hope every one is safe and good health..have a great week

maryz

Darlene, I think the last colonoscopy I had was when I was 70. (I'll be 88 in March.)
I was told to come have another one in 10 years.  I decided since I had had two normal tests by then, I didn't see the need to do one at about 80, so I never went back for another one.  What does your doctor say?

We had no damage in our immediate area the other night from the tornadoes. But our area did go under a tornado watch and we had to go into the blank (non-windowed) hall at about 7 p.m. for about 20 minutes.  By the time the front got to Margaret's house, it had been downgraded to a severe-thunderstorm-watch.  But it was a scary night, even if not the the death and destruction of the areas just west of us.  There was a lot of damage in Hendersonville, where we lived from 1963-1986.

I've had a bad cold or some crud for the last week. I don't know what it is, but they obviously didn't think it was covid. They never tested for that.  I was told a number of the other residents had it, so I guess I got it here.  Lots of coughing, sneezing, nose blowing, etc.  I stayed in my room for three days (last Wed-Thurs-Fri) and started going back to the dining room on Saturday. I still feel punk, with a lot of the symptoms, but am trying to get back to normal (whatever that is).

Glad to hear from Sharon and Darlene.

Happy Holidays to all the Buddies!

Darlene, most drs say stop aT AGE 80m byt U have a family history of colon cancer--an aunt & an uncle, so I decided I better get tested 1 last time since it had been about 13 yrs since I'd had one. I don't plAN TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE UNLESS THE dR INSISTS IT'S NECESSARY. Pardon aLL THE CAPS. mY TREMOR CAUSES ME TO HIT THE CAPS LOCK KEY.

HI EVERYONE...MaryZ and Sharon...on the colonoscopy.my last 2 showed no polyps..,so Dr said I don't need one unless I just wanted it...the only trouble I have is constipation..and I'm trying to eat more fiber and water....Im almost done with my Christmas shopping...which wasn't much..take care and have good rest of day

diglady

I don't have ANY test except for thyroid blood level. I decided when I turned 70 that if a test came back positive (Cancer for example) I would not do anything about it such as surgery. So no tests but I am 87! Guess that is the question each of us has to ask ourself-would I do anything about negative results?

jane

Darlene,
I, too, stopped colonoscopies at 78 or so when my three previous ones had been fine.  My primary doc agreed, and my paps stopped, too.

There's a lot of Covid here, according to local medical news.

Nothing else exciting except I'm flying to Ohio Dec. 19 and be back Dec.27.  I'll be at my sister's house.

Stay healthy!

Jane

Have a safe trip, enjoy Christmas with your sister.

SharonE

Have a wonderful visit with your sister, Jane. Brian is in Charlotte for work and we had dinner Sunday and will again tomorrow before he leaves Thursday. That's our only family Christmas. The rest of the holidays will be here as usual.
John and I both played bridge this afternoon. Found out one of our friends here died in her sleep Friday night.

I went to the orthopedist about my knee, but he said the xrays were fine. My muscles apparently didn't like it and to do PT and grin and bear ot. That was about what I expected, but thought I'd try. I've also been for a Coumadin check the past 2 Mpndaus. Okau uesterdau sp dpm't meed to go back till Jan 9.

No other news here. Take care everyone and have a wonderful Christmas with your families.
