Jane, my daughter was visiting today, and we ordered out.  I had the craving for eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy.
She just wanted a Big Tex BLT, and boy was it Big.  Everyone talking about doing laundry:  Well, sad story.  The other night my dryer quit working, a friend/neighbor kindly dried the load for me. So Yesterday I was washing another load, and my washing machineQUIT on me.  I have a service policy on this, but not on the dryer.  Can any of you believe it is nearly impssible to find a business that does appliance repairs. I guess everyone just tosses out the old ones, and buys new.  I can't do that.

SharonE

Hi Gals. I'm so sorry the Covid hit you so hard, Jane, but since you have had so many cancer treatments, your immune system may be down. Hope you're getting over that fatigue by now. It does last a while though. Hope you enjoyed your big breakfast.

I finally got my Covid shot last week, so hope I won't get it again.

I wanted to tell you all that Marilyn had to put Keith in Memory Care recently, as she could no longer take care of him. Her vision has gotten so bad, she has a care giver come in part time to help her.

I have seen Jeanne post a couple times recently on FB. She said she had had vision problems too, but the doctor cured it, whatever it was.

John had some sort of spell last week when I was at the clubhouse. Lots of different symptoms that lasted about 6 hrs and carried over as a woozy feeling for a couple days afterwards. Scary! Our primary dr. is coming Thursday to check both of us and he has an appt with the cardiologist Fri. As soon as we get a referral to a neurologist, she wants him to see him too. This is unusual for him as he is pretty healthy except for his glaucoma.

I just finished typing my Christmas letter and also finished the Dec. issue of my newsletter. Nothing else much going on with me. Mid 60's this week.

By the way, what has happened to Patricia? She hasn't posted for a long time. Did I miss something?

Stay well everyone and stay warm. (I've got my cords out too, Jane.)

Hi everyone...it's. Finally cooled off in. My. Part of Tx..Sharon what is. Memory Care...is. It like. A. Nursing. Home..I have a friend whoose. Husband. Has. Dementia and really. Needs to be. Placed. Some where..but. Can't afford. The. Cost. Of. Nursing. Home...I sure. Don't. Like the. Time. Change...dark. To. Early....take care all...CC

jane

Darlene....Glad to hear you're getting some heat relief.  Here "Memory Care" is a facility or part of one that is for dementia patients.  Here the one for those who are mobile, is locked and the one for those bed ridden is a section of the regular nursing home.  The cost is higher than a regular nursing home situation.  Here in a small town in a rural area of Iowa and not part of a commercial owned facility, the cost for a year is in the $100,000 range.

Sherry...sorry to hear of John's spell.  I hope you can get him to the specialists he needs soon.

Thanks for the info on Marilyn.  She's sure had her hands full with his care for quite a few years.

Tomereader...you must have the same cravings I do! :idiot2:  :2funny: It sure was good.  YIKES on the washer and dryer.  You may find the cost of any repair is as much as the high cost of new units.  I'm told they're only built to last less than 10 years.  Sad, but true.

I hope Patricia can check in soon.  I, too, miss her posts.

Tomorrow I have to drive to CR for two appts dealing with my hearing aids.

Then nothing until the Wed. before T'giving when I have another cystoscopy, but they bring the equipment and can do it here at the local hospital.

It's quite windy here today and the temps to fall and then tomorrow is "welcome to winter" with highs in the low30s and below 28 at night.

Nothing  else new here.

Stay safe and healthy.

Hi, Darlene...maybe everybody is in the same...uh..."funk" that I am.  We've been quite cold and windy and even had snow...but I just can't seem to get in a Christmas mood.  I have put up some of my "winter decor"...snowmen, a tiny tree, etc.

My dentist appt was cancelled...hygenist was sick, so finally got one for this next Friday with a different person.  I don't really care, but it seems to be a big deal with the hygenists...I just want it done.

It's quite warm this weekend...I did finish filling my medicine box for the month of Dec. and will pick up a refill on Monday and get some money envelopes and maybe buy a box of cards.I use to have the mailed by now, but I send so many fewer than years ago.

Stay safe and healthy,
jane

Hooooeeee....it got very cold over night here and a bit of snow...now gone.  But the wind with 15 degree temp make it unpleasant to be out.  I do love winter....from inside my warm house. :2funny:   I went out this morning to get my 2025 calendar from the bank.  Everyone used to have these, but my bank is the only one now.  I need it for my "fridge" schedule or important appts.  So, I came home and filled in the appts I already have for 2025.

jane

Hi Buddies...Jane it finally cooled. Off here..and the wind. Has blown. Leaves everywhere..I also got the new calendar..for 2025..I put all my appts on it and all my kids...gkidsand ggkids Birthday on it..otherwise I could. Not. Keep. Up...hope. Everyone is doing great...well. And. Safe...especially. When out. Shopping

jane

Darlene...good for you getting everything noted for 2025.

It's been a real winter day here...temp down to 2 this morning and it doesn't take much wind to make that air VERY chilly.

Tomorrow is dentist day...glad it's here it town and not until 11:00. They're saying freezing rain maybe tonight and tomorrow night.  UGH.  I hate freezing rain.  You never know what's slick and what's just wet.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Hi everyone. I hope you are all getting in the spirit of Christmas by now. We put out our Christmas decs on Friday after TG, not that we put up that many--my creche, a Christmas tree made of ball ornaments and some Santa stick-ons on the sliding glass door and a crystal bowl filled with favorite tree ornaments.

I'm glad you all have had good dr's appts and tests. We still haven't figured out what John's problem is, but probably will have to have a pacemaker. He has an appt for Jan 6 for a complete physical and to see if that's what he needs.

I've been having PT to strengthen my legs and help my balance. It seems to be helping.

My coumadin tests have been all out of whack. Working with the nurse to get the #'s down.  I think when they are, I will be able to go on Eloquist instead of Coumadin. I originally couldn't do that because my tremor meds conflicted with it. Now that I am off those, I should be able to take it. It will be so much simpler--can eat what I want without affecting it and no more finger sticks.

Brian and Traecy were here last night before going down to Columbia to see their son, Sean, graduate from basic training. He will go to OTC after Christmas.  They will all 3 stop back here and go out to dinner tomorrow night.  So good to see them.

I was elected to the Residents' Council again for the coming year, so that was good.

No other news here. We've been having pretty cold temps for us--down to 20 one night. Supposed to be up to 60ish today and tomorrow then down again.

Take care everyone and if I don't get back in before Christmas, I wish you all a very happy, healthy Christmas and New Year.
Sherry

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and are ready for the New Year.

I flew to Ohio to my sister's and saw her grands and great grands.  It was great, but I'm also glad to be back in my own space and on my own timetable.   :2funny:

Stay safe and healthy!!

Happy New Year. To all ..may we all have good health and. Lots. Family. Time..I. Sure. Miss mine. Stay. Safe...May. GOD. Bless us. All

SharonE

Darlene, you said it all. I will simply say "ditto"!

We had a very quiet Christmas and New Years.  Our family is so scattered, we can't get together for the holidays, but I sure miss our big celebrations together of the past.

The cold temps have found us and combined with a strong north wind keeps me inside today.  I've also been on the phone with the Iowa Public Employees Retirement group, who have notified me they are switching to all digital messaging, for the last 15 minutes.  They're still "busy with other callers" so I'll try again next week.

Nothing else exciting here.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning to all looking in..26 degrees in my part of. The world..soo getting. Caught. Up. On inside. Stuff...Ilead a boring life...but. I'm. Thankful. For it...stay. Warm. And safe

jane

Darlene....I, too, lead a boring life by many younger people's standards...I'm not at all interested in going to concerts, large groups anywhere, shopping for latest fashions, etc.  Any of those things make me shiver! :D

I tell people my social life is going to various doctors' offices! ::)

I keep getting notices that there is a lot of colds and flu going around.  Another good reason to stay home.  It was -1 when I got up this morning and I had to go out for a few groceries and some 'scripts at the drugstore.  Back home and trying to get through to my teachers' state website...and getting nowhere.

This afternoon I'm treating myself to a pedi...just no color....but the massages and all of that feels so good.  I'll do color when it's sandle time....not -1! ;D

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Go to church today...lots sickness. Going. Around..Hi Sharon...Jane...anyone else looking in?  I will watch the new president get. Sworn. In. Tomorrow...God Bless. AMERICA....TAKE CARE YALL

jane

It's been so cold here, I haven't had much to say.  Yesterday it was -15 degrees and today was 35+ degrees warmer!   That kind of change is very hard on this old arthritic body!  It's also snowed today, but not like Houston an NOLA rec'd.  Seemed so odd to see all that snow on Bourbon St.

Nope, I haven't been out to grocery shop...been cleaning out my fridge and pantry.  I did go out for our Tuesday lunch with my neighbor.  He's been in and out of the hospitals...local and airlifted to Univ.of IA hospital ... blockage in the right carotid artery.  He drove and we had to try 4 places before we found one open.

Tomorrow I go locally to the lab and  then Fri I drive to CR for my last intravesical chemotherapy this maintenance schedule. Then I get about 6 weeks off from those "activities," though I have other doctors appts in there.  There are more "ologists" on my medical list than I care to count.

Our local hospital is full...lots of flu and other respiratory stuff.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

Cottoncandy

Hi...cold and. Damp here...Jane sounds like you been busy...my next. Dr appt is. April...lab before that...our church is hosting. A Widow/widower. Valentine dinner on. Friday. 14  That's. Always. Nice..always more. Women. Than. Men....there is lots flu bugs around. Here. Also.Take care..be. Safe..be happy

jane

Same health notices from our County people...lots of flu, colds, RSV and norovirus.  Ray and I had that on a cruise...feel fine one minute and OOPS so sick the next.

I'm not doing much this first full week of recovery from the treatments.  2 loads of laundry about finished and the 3rd will wait until tomorrow.  I wouldn't want to get too much accomplished in one day!
  ;D  ::)

It's warmer by far than just a week or two ago...more like spring...but lots of wind.

I've been catching up with my bookkeeping...getting the old checking account up to date and paying some bills.  I hope nobody is impacted by the "freeze" by the new Pres.

Stay safe and healthy, Dear Buddies!

jane

SharonE

Hi everyone! Sorry that I haven't been in for a while. Just not much to report. We had really cold weather for over a week--down to 16 with a high of 30 for a few days. Even had about an inch of snow. It is hilarious how out of shape everyone here gets when the "S" word is in the forecast. It was gone in 24 hrs except in the shade. Now we are in the 60's and supposed to hit 70 one day next week! So nice.  50 is the average temp for here at this time.

John is still undergoing tests, so we still don't know anything. Just lots of appts.

The Feb. issue of the newsletter goes out today. We're going to a surprise birthday party for one of our friends who is turning 90. Her girls are hosting it.

Brian had a burst appendix and was in the hospital for 4 days. Fortunately, it was encapsulated and he has been taking antibiotics for about 3 weeks and is to have the surgery the 28th. Kind of scary! But I think/hope he will be fine.

I finished PT and think it has helped my leg strength some.  Other than that I'm fine.Hope you all are too.
I'll check in when I have something to say.
Sherry

jane

Sherry...yikes  Brian's burst appendix...serious business!

I haven't had much energy lately, but our temps are leveling out, so it should improve.

Two of my docs have had to cancel appts because of their illnesses!  A lot of Covid and flu and norovirus around.  Our hospital is full.

Take care and stay safe,

Jane
