Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hi Gals, I've just gotten home from the Dr (primary) and doing the grocery shopping. The Dr put me on Cymbalta for pain and depression. Sure hope it helps. I used the motorized cart at the grocery as I didn't sleep much if any last night. I was back up from 2-4, but don't think I did more than doze before or after.  It was really hard to get up and get going at 7:45.  I suspect a nap will be in my future.

Mary, I know that you will be relieved when the last of all the paper work is done or redone. At least the worst of it is over and you're in control.  It is such a hassle. We need to make an appt with a lawyer and have him go over our wills and trusts, etc and make sure that no new laws have made changes necessary.

Mary Page, Jonathan took his 4 yr old for his first dentist appt a week or so ago. He did fine, but I didn't hear about any cute comments like Mateo's.  As my dad would have said, he sounds like a little pistol!

Hope all of you are having a good day.  Sharon

Update on my DIL Karen.  The lump was removed and surrounding tissue.....had not spread to lymph nodes...she will be doing 5 weeks of radiation....thanks everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts. Darlene

maryz

Darlene - sounds like a "reasonable" outcome - this is the type of situation I had.  I hope all goes well for Karen.  Thanks for the update.

Sharon, I wish you could get more relief.  Gentle hugs!

Nothing doing around here on a lazy Thursday.  Temps still in the mid/upper 90s, and still in the 90s for the next week.  And not much rain in sight, either.

Darlene....good news on your DIL

Home from Ray's colonoscopy.... just one small polyp removed and Dr. said he felt nothing to be concerned about..though they will biopsy.  He also said Ray's last one.that he'd ”aged out" of routine screening.

Neither of us slept well last night, so we'll be in bed early, I suspect, with company coming tomorrow night, and we need a teip to CR to get salmon for Sat. Night for the company.and I'll probably have a pork chop.    ???

GinnyAnn

Maryz ~ Your endnote is good!  I need to tuck Doug into my heart. Next week I will be talking with a "Talk Doctor" to help me do that.

Darlene ~ Karen will probably be low on energy on the days of her treatment. Does she have understanding people to help her?

This coming weekend there is an annual 'garage sale'.  Ray has been planning for it for weeks. The weather forecast doesn't look good.  :(

I've had a Fibro Day. Didn't even get dressed :cloud:

I am trying something new for dinner, it is all baked in the oven  on a cookie sheet. Red Potatoes, onion, chicken and broccoli   with olive oil Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and pepper.  It sure smells good. So I hope it tastes good too. Everything is cut in quarters.

Nothing much new here, Freckles and I did the hospital this afternoon. I am still taking her for 4 walks per day to keep her slim and trim. LOL I wish it was doing me some good in the weight dept. But I keep losing and gaining back the same two lbs.

Cottoncandy

Jane. At what age does one not need colonoscopy? Ginny...yes Karen will have lots help...Darlene

maryz

Ginny Ann, we don't ever lose our loved ones - even if they're not in our thoughts every minute.  They're always with us.  Hang in there, Babe!

Marilyn, sounds good - I love "one-pots" meals (even when they're done in the oven).

"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

MaryPage

The Love of My Life used to tell me that he would be with me always, and that every time I thought of him, he would especially BE!
So he is right here, all the time.
Things change.  The contours of our days become quite different.  But who we love and how we love them, and the love they offered us, THAT is an infinite and beyond forever thing.  It goes with us wherever we are.

I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die."

My absolute favorite, MaryPage, and one that I want my children to remember when they scatter Tom's and my ashes in the mountains.  We won't have a grave but the essence of what we were will mingle and ride on the wind.

Mary Page, good thoughts and a meaningful poem. I've seen it often.

Phyllis, I like your thoughts too.  Where do you live in NC?  I'm just south of Charlotte in SC.l

MaryZ, thanks for the good thoughts.  They told me my tremor med and the Cymbalta would have some counteraction, so I cut down 1 of the tremor pills last night. Not a good idea. I'm shaking all over the place, so took an early one a few minutes ago. Hope it levels out.

Jane, don't you like salmon? I think it's yummy.  Glad Ray's test went well and that it is the last one. I suppose I will have to have one more but I dread it.

Ginny, what are you taking for your fibro?  I hope your "talk Dr" helps you in working out your grief.  Take the Marys'  words of wisdom to heart. They know what they are talking about.

Darlene, good news for Karen. So glad.  As Ginny said, radiation causes fatigue, but no pain..

I have a load of laundry in and I need to brush Bunny. She's going to the groomer tomorrow & I don't want her in too bad a shape.

Marilyn, I hope your oven dinner was good. Sounds like it.  I know what you mean about gaining and losing the same 2 lbs.   :'(

We had our 76th 90 degree day yesterday!!  Supposed to be mid 80's today. We'll see.  Sharon

Well, Buddies, I've spent the last 20 minutes replying to your recent posts--and somehow when I was ready to post it, everything I wrote disappeared!  Could it have happened while I was backtracking to be sure I didn't miss anyone?

I'm so happy to see many of you posting and mostly feeling well.  Hugs to Sharon for the back problems and to Darlene's DIL(?) who is starting treatment.  I hope all goes well with both.

I've been watering house plants this morning and am off to fix my lunch.  I'll try to get back later this afternoon.  Mary, I'm so glad things are moving along with your paperwork now.

Big Hugs to all.
Sue

Marilyn

Good Morning all. Not much new here yet today.  I have taken Freckles for an early morning walk in the fog. Answered some emails and sent one out to the FF group requesting sign-ups for the October Wine walk, to be with me at one of the appliance stores with our dogs.

I also downloaded a form from the DMV to ask for a behind the wheel test for Keith who seems to be having trouble staying the the correct lane and crossing over the double yellow lines, He scared me something terrible the other day, I thought we were going to crash head on with a stopped car. He says he  gets confused about the ;lines on the roadway and what they mean. I keep telling him but he makes the same mistakes over and over again. His boys suggested that I do this since he refuses to let me take his keys from  him. If they take his license there will be no problem with him driving.

maryz

Oh, Marilyn - tough decisions to have to make.  Glad his boys are involved, though.  Hugs.

Sue - I hate it when I have lots of lovely words and they disappear.  Sighhhhh.  Good to hear from you in any case.

Just swimming/coffee this morning - nothing else.  Like Sharon, we're on our umpteenth day of 90+ temperatures, and no relief in sight for us...or rain.  Maybe cooler weather is just waiting for the "official start" of fall (21 September).

Good Afternoon from NE Ohio ~ Still having intestinal problems  :(  Ray is busy getting ready for his garage sale tomorrow. I didn't bother to get anything out to sell. Ray has been looking forward to selling some of his 'junk'. It is an annual area wide sale day.The forecast is for morning rain :tickedoff:

I'm in Cary, Sharon.  Just across I40 west of Raleigh.  Cooler here today so maybe it will reach you soon.  It's been a very uncomfortable summer here in NC...and all over, it seems.  I hope you are able to adjust your medicine so that you can get rid of the tremor.  I've been having difficulty adjusting to some new medicine that I recently started taking.  One day I feel pretty good and the next I feel pretty bad.  It's kind of a guessing game, isn't it?

Just enjoyed sitting on the front deck. There was a lot of birds across the street making a lot of noise.   There maybe a hawk in the area.  :yikes:

SharonE

Yes, Phyllis, it really is a guessing game. I guess that is 3 or 4 hours from us.     Yes, it has been an awfully hot, humid summer.  I've stayed in most of it due to my back, so I didn't really suffer from the heat. Thank goodness for AC.

Mary, one would think it would be cooler for you up in the mtns. I guess we won't have to wait too much longer for cooler weather though.

Ginny, I'm sorry for your intestinal problems. I have IBS also. I have an appt next week I think with the gastro guy to see if there's anything else I can do.  HOpe your garage sale goes well even if it does rain.  If it is a big area one, people will probably come regardless.

Sue, glad to see your post. Sorry you lost your long one. It happens to us all. Thanks for the hugs.

Marilyn, that is really scary about Keith's driving. Has he had his eyes checked?  I think the behind-the-wheel test is a good idea.  Good luck in getting it all sorted out.

I did get the laundry done and Bunny brushed, but not mmuch else.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I'm not really in the mountains.  Chattanooga is right on the Tennessee River.  Many times I wish we WERE in the mountains.

Ginny Ann, glad you're getting some "porch time".  I was enjoying being out on my deck in the mornings for a few days, reading the paper.  But then the early morning humidity returned, and I was back inside.  LOL  I've heard a hawk around here, but haven't seen one.  I wish I would - I love hawks!.

I have been on my BP med about 10 days now.....am finally getting adjusted to it....felt bad the first few days...Hope everyone has a great weekend. Darlene

JeanneP

Candy.  I am going to have to change mine back to before bed I think. I started doing it at Breakfast yesterday. It may be my imagination but I felt sort of dizzy and even sleepy for about 2 hours.  I think maybe my BP was low. When did you take yours.  I was changing thinking I wouldn't have to get up during the night. But as that was only once I think maybe that a better time for me.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

Jeanne......one of my Drs suggested I take my BP med in morning..he says a person is more active durning day and said usually ones BP is lower at night...so I'm taking mine after breakfast...so far so good also trying to walk more..did 7 miles this week. Candy

Cottoncandy

Also I'm not taking my BP every day...will do it once a wk...candy

Darlene...I don't know what other gastroenterologists say, but Ray's never had anything that was suspicious in his colonoscopies...and they called today to say the one small polyp he removed was benign.  Dr. said that at 81 now he didn't n ed any more screening colonoscopies.  Obviously, if he had a problem, that wouldn't be a screening or routine one.
My med person said it depends on one's history, family history, and personal decision.

Ginny...hope Ray's sale goes well.

Sue...so good to see your posts.  Did you know when you have the reply box open, you can scroll down below that and see many of the posts?

Sharon....salmon seems too strong to me.

Hi to Maryz, Jeanne, MaryPage, Phyllis, Marilyn
We're waiting for our company...they are about an hour away.  "Cardboard boat" regatta is tomorrow on the river, if it's not too high.  We've had lots of rain north of us and last night, so we'll see.

Jane

MaryPage

Only 71° here this morning, with a grey overcast day.  The sun is supposed to turn off and on as the day goes by.  Chip left a short while ago to umpire a couple of baseball games.  It is supposed to go up to nearly 80° as the day moves on.  I have the house open at present, and am enjoying the lovely breezes wafting through the rooms.  I so wish I could go out and take a nice healthy walk, but am hobbling about with the walker and pretty housebound.  I do so enjoy my decks full of lovely garden blooms.  Too soon it will be time for Debi & Steve to come and take the hibiscus and about 4 of the geraniums to winter over in their Florida room, but not quite yet.
They stopped giving me colonoscopies some years ago.  2007 was my last one.  Now they will only order one if something comes up and they feel they must have a look.  When I look at it, I realize they quit when I reached 80.  I never had so much as a polyp, though they did always comment that I had particularly kinky guts.  My daughter Debi always gets awarded that complaint, as well.  Genetic, I guess.

Weather is just perfect here, not too hot as 2 months ago.
I am thinking of going out more (with the wheelchair) before it turns too cold.  It's been ages I haven't been to the beach.
But like you, MaryPage, I sit at my front window, overlooking the busy street to the sea and it is fun to observe people going about, some very undressed ready for a dip, other -mainly tourists-  dressed for sitting at the cafes in town.  Fun!

MaryPage

Ah, but do you really SEE what is passing by these days, or do you fall into daydreams about a certain Canadian?

Marilyn

Good Morning ladies, Today is dog park day for freckles and I. IIt is only supposed to be  around 68° today. For me that is just a bit warm for me. We never get very high temps here, the highest this year was 85° a week or so ago, Anything above 72° is like a heat wave  here on the coast.
My Doctor gave me blood pressure pills for the Reynauds in my left hand. I quit taking them because I couldn't remember to take them 2 hrs after eating. Well for 3 nights this week I took them before bed, (Nefedipine 30mgs extended release) and the next day I had a headache all day and I never have headaches anymore. So I quit taking them  again, When I was taking the 10 mg tables I was fine.
