Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Yes, I think Chicken Salad Chick's is a chain.  I had take out from there in Tallahasseee. It was good.

Sue, yes, I am planting my pots.  I have a yellow hibiscus in 2 of my pots + a variety of other fillers--angilonica (sp?), some white and purple viney flowers, some Sun Patiens, etc. In back, I also have a variety of different annuals. I still have those to plant.  I'm heading to the grocery soon and then a haircut at 3:00. When I get back from that, the sun should be off the patio, so I can work on my pots there.

Jane, I was glad to hear that Mayo's didn't recommend the surgery either.  I only know 2 people who have had that surgery and both of them are worse off now than before.

It's very overcast and about 70 some today. Rain predicted tomorrow. I do hope we get a good amount. We sure need it.

Mary, I remember that John enjoyed rowing and being on the water.

Not much else going on here. Hope you all are having a good day.  Sharon

jane

That must be a Southern chain...nothing like that around here that I've seen.

We're to have our third day of rain...but that's ok.  I need to get some "inside" stuff accomplished and it's easier on a rainy day, for me.  We should get a walk in, though, before the rains return here about 2:00 according to the radar.

Ray's been putting some bird away stuff on our porch light. Every year a bird tries to build a nest there, and it's right by our front door. VERY annoying to have a bird flying at you every time you open the front door!  We got some sort of stuff from the "wild life" guy, and I hope it works.  I'm tired of knocking down all the nest building stuff every day and sweeping it away!

jane

JeanneP

Jane.  let me know if that works on the birds.  I have a 29 ft. porch with a roof above.  Birds always start building nest about the end of March. I put screen wire in the gutters but they still seem to find a way. I climbed up yesterday and cleaned 4 big nests out . turned the sreeen wire the other way. Will put moth balls in . They are such a trouble.  They don't make the gutter screens for my kind of awning.

We did a mile walk in this morning....slow with my gimpy knees and hips, but we did it.  We then tackled the linen closet upstairs that is very nice size with lots of shelves...and so becomes an easy place to put everything.  We took things out and organized all the stuff...and threw away a garbage bag full of expired meds and whatever.  It looks so much better now and I can find the dental stuff or the bandaids or the thermometers, etc.

This afternoon, I want to do the bathroom vanity and finish up a load of laundry.  I saw on Pinterest that it's good to wash towels in hot water with a cup of white vinegar to get out the soap or detergent buildup.  It's suppose to revive the absorbancy of the towels.  I ise white vinegar instead of fabric softener to get soap residue out, but am going all out on this load of towels.

I'm also going to be needing to switch clothes around...put the turtlenecks and heavier jeans in the extra closet and get out the capri length pants and teeshirts.  It's SPRING!   :2funny:

MaryPage

Does the vinegar (white, of course!) go in the wash water or the rinse water?

Marilyn

Mary Page the vinegar goes in the rinse water.

I vacuumed today, at least the bigger part of the house, i didn't do the family room or upstairs because there is all kinds of stuff stacked around from Keith's office, hopefully we will get all that moved out of sight before the company starts arriving next month.

I also got one walk in with Keith and Freckles this morning, had lunch, and shampooed my hair. I will get in another walk in just a little while.

MaryPage

Thanks, Marilyn.  Sunday is wash all the towels day, and if my creaky old so called mind still has this information then, I am going to try it!

Hi Buddies, I slept until 8:30 this morning and piddled around getting breakfast and reading the paper, but had time for a good walk before my shower and dressing for bridge at 11:00.  I chose a cup of potato soup and a half chicken salad sandwich for lunch at Chicken Salad Chick.  I didn't realize it might be a chain.  It was started here by a youngish widow (less than 40) in a small shop which just sold her chicken salad, but has grown into a  restaurant with lots of dining area and a dining room where we could play 2 tables of bridge.  I had good cards today and won 75 cents for second place.  This is a bridge club with friends from church and one Catholic friend.  I was so happy to see her today.  Terri is my friend who had a major stroke about a month ago.  She is definitely back to normal now, thank goodness!

This evening after the church supper, a member who is a lawyer reviewed Alabama laws about death matters.  Very interesting and although I've already researched much of it, I learned a few things.  One thing I need to do is copy the material Tim and I have talked about and send a copy to Bill and Jon. They need to be kept into the loop, too.  We also received a form from our pastors to fill out if we wish about which scripture we'd like used and also which music.  I got an extra form and I'll discuss it with Minnie tomorrow during our weekly visit.  She told me a few weeks ago that she wanted all 6 verses of "Amazing Grace" sung at her funeral.

I hope you've all had a good night and will rest well tonight.

Goodnight, my dear Buddies.

Going over a carpet with a cloth damped in vinegar will revive faded colors.  Especially on Persian carpets.

Quotefrom Marilyn: Mary Page the vinegar goes in the rinse water.

NOT  for this method on the towels.  The problem is the buildup IN the towels, so the white vinegar is a cup INSTEAD of soap or detergent and hot water.  I put a cup of white vinegar in the soap dispenser [and I always add a smaller amount to the "fabric softener" cup for all my laundry.]

Good tip, So P Bubble, and it is great for spots on regular carpet, too, and cleaning off hard water deposits on chrome faucets, etc.  Lots of good uses and it's a cheap cleaner.  I use it on my swiffer pads for a quick wash on my kitchen vinyl floor.

We're off today for our day in the "city."

Jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, I use vinegar in my towel rinse cycle also but hadn't thought of doing a wash cycle of it only. Will have to try it.

Yesterday was a long hard day for me. I went to the grocery, came home & put stuff away and then went to get my hair cut. It's a little shorter than I would like, but it grows so fast, it will soon be where I want it.  Then I came home and took a pain pill and finished planting flowers in the patio pots.  They look so nice and I'm so glad they are done. I was ready to drop by the time I finished. John carried all my tools, bench, excess potting soil, etc back around to the garage and then carried all the trash (flowers and soil) & put it out on a pile behind our garden.

Today, I've done a load of laundry and putzed around a bit, but not planning on doing anything too energetic.  Hope you are all doing well. Jane, I hope your joints are getting better by today. We have rain today, so I've got plenty of extra aches and pains too.  Sharon

Marilyn

Freckles and I went on a Therapy dog visit to the hospital this afternoon.

I wash our jeans in only vinegar in the wash cycle. I don't use soap because the soap fades the color. My jeans are dried over the shower rod in the the bathroom, Keith's Levis go in the dryer.

JeanneP

Yes, they do say that good expensive Jeans should not be washed in a modern Wash machine or put into a dryer.  Not made to be worn just one time and then washed. I use to have lots of those. Did they call them Stretcher. Wire things that dried your jeans on.  I don't wear them as often now. Have a pair on today. feel good.

We had rain off and on today until about 4:30, so I didn't get any yard work done today.  I did work at the church 9-12 and then had lunch with Ard.  Afterwards, I put gas in my car and visited Minnie.  Today was not a good day for her, so I didn't stay too long.  She had a broken molar earlier in the week and had to have it removed, so was still having pain with that--although the nurses on duty gave her pain meds on schedule.

I didn't get a nap, but am reading a Margaret Truman murder mystery, so enjoyed my afternoon.  Not a very exciting day, but I am enjoying the book.

I hope you all sleep well this evening.  I'm planning on it--Tim has asked me not to take my allergy pill, so I left it off last night and was able to sleep without coughing.  He'd read an article that said cetirizine (generic for Zyrtec) has been found to cause a bit of loss to one's memory.  I hope NOT.  I need all the memory I have!

Sue

Our new baby girl has a name.  She is Ava Mason Windsor.  I am pleased they chose my maiden name to be her middle name.  That ties her in to her ancestry and makes her a Virginian.  You know what they say:

"To be a Virginian either by Birth, Marriage, Adoption, or even on one’s Mother’s side, is an Introduction to any State in the Union, a Passport to any Foreign country and a Benediction from Above."

So this little honey chile is a Virginian on her Mother's side!  Kathryn also has Mason as her middle name.

JeanneP

I love the name Ava.  Nice and short and also can't be called anything else.  Back in years past. My time and before me in the UK.  Very seldom did you get a middle name . It was usual to use your mother maiden name for it.  Then to use your Maiden name before your married name once married.  Did have one girl friend though. They Named her Dillis,Deloris, Diana Deere.  I can always remember her. They must have wanted to please a lot of family members.
JeanneP

MaryPage, I'm glad your beautiful Ava has finally put in an appearance.  She's obviously going to have a mind of her own - but then I'm sure that's true of all your wonderful family.

Hi Buddies.  I was up about 8:00 this morning, had a leisurely breakfast, took a 20 minute walk, and then went to Ace Hardware to get 2 large flats of Marigolds.  One flat was of large bloomed yellow marigolds and the second was the smaller bloomed multi-colored oranges.  I planted all of them this morning--and it took quite a while.

Ethel and I had planned to go to lunch about noon, but I didn't finish the planting until 12:30, so called her to ask if we could meet about 1:30 at Panera bread.  I jumped in the shower and washed my hair, used a fingernail brush on my fingernails as they were filled with black dirt.  I managed to get down to Panera Bread before she did.  The traffic was terrible.  Kenny Chesney was performing tonight at the football stadium and lots of his fans were driving all over town.  So far I haven't heard anything.  Sometimes when they have those big speakers on, you can hear them here at my house.  This morning's paper said that 57,000 tickets had been sold in advance and there is lots more room if people were seeking tickets today.

Since coming home from our late lunch, I've walked another 30 minutes and have been reading and have finished Margaret Truman's murder mystery.  So now, before bedtime, I'm looking for something else to start.  I have 2 library books I haven't read yet, so one of them might suit this evening.

I hope all are well, feeling good, and having a nice Saturday.  We had a beautiful day, lots of sunshine and temps in the high 70's.  I feel pretty good about the planting I finished today.  Now I need to get started on the weeds coming up everywhere!

Sleep well, Buddies.

Marilyn

I see I haven't posted today. Not much new here, it is raining off an on here today. , Freckles and I went to the dogs park left when it started to rain; we hadn't gone 3 blocks when it stopped. As soon as we got back home I took her for a walk.

Have any of you eaten the Birds Eye steamers?  I fixed the Roasted Red Potatoes with string beans, that had olive oil and seasoning. i just cooked it in the microwave right in the package. they sure tasted yummy with the Breaded curry chicken I cooked in my Nu wave oven.

MaryPage little Ava is a doll.

I have been unable to reach anyone at Roger's house. I called his job Thursday and they told me he had been pout a few days sick. But  I can't get anyone there to answer  the calls or texts.  I am very worried about him I texted my daughter, his twin, and she  didn't even acknowledge that. I feel like I am being shut out. I  sent a message to my grand daughter in law on Facebook and she  didn't respond either.

SCFSue

Marilyn, I'm praying you hear something soon.  I know it is distressing.  Big hugs to you.  I know you love Roger with all your heart and that it hurts not to hear.

Sue

MaryPage

Marilyn, I use those steamers all the time.

I am thinking about you in your great distress, and hoping you will have news, and good news, very soon.

jane

I've also used the steamers.  I hope someone will let you know about Roger and his health.

Beautiful day here yesterday, and it looks like a repeat today, until the rains come.

Nothing planned...relax and enjoy the day.

SharonE

I also like the steamers.  Marilyn, I'm praying you will hear from or about Roger very soon. God knows you love him and is watching over him for you.

At SS today, I think I learned more than my kids.  If you remember, I've mentioned a pastor's son who was so inattentive and distracting in my class.  Today when he walked in, he had on shorts for the first time that I've seen him.  He has a prosthetic leg!!  I felt so humbled that I had judged this child who has such a challenge. I'm sure that is why he feels he needs extra attention.  His parents adopted him from Russia or the Ukraine. That is probably why he was up for adoption. Bless this couple for adopting and caring for him, knowing he had such a disability. I'm sure he would never have gotten a prosthesis over there. He walks and handles it beautifully. With long pants on, you would never know.

I decided this week that I would quit teaching SS because of the strain on my back sitting in small chairs and having to move around a lot. I still need to inform the other teacher and the pastor though.

I did practically nothing yesterday and have hurt so much ever since I planted the flowers.  I still have 3 small impatiens to plant by my sunroom. I guess I will try to go out and do it after bit.

Sue, your marigolds sound pretty.  Are you ever bothered by rabbits?  Are they rabbit proof? Ms Frances has a small bed in front of her house that she likes flowers in, but everything that has been planted has been decimated by the rabbits.  You got a lot done yesterday.

The weather has been gorgeous this weekend. We got about .3" of an inch of rain Friday, but that wasn't even a good start on what we need.  No rain forecast through next Thurs.

My appt at the pain specialist is in 2 weeks. I will see then what he recommends.

Mary Page, I thought I had posted a reply about your gorgeous baby Ava, but I guess it went into cyber space.  Anyway, I'm so glad she finally decided to make her debut.  She hardly looked like a newborn.  Nice to have your family name continued.  I wish that someone would continue my maiden name, as my nephews who have no boys are the last to bear the name, but Fordyce would be a rather strange 2nd name.

Ginny, I do wish you would come in and post. We'd like to hear how you're doing.  Diane, you as well.

Hi to everyone I didn't mention.  Sharon

Molly

SHARON - After I read your comments RE your withdrawing from teaching SS, I wondered if it would be possible for you to request a different chair to sit in?  One with wheels and a strong back support which would allow you to move around when you needed to, but would be comfortable for you.  I recall a few years ago changing chairs in the SS which I attended and it made a huge difference for my back - less strain and easy mobility.

RE rabbits in the yard:  Would it be possible for Miss Frances to arrange to have different flower pots in her front yard to hold whatever plants she might enjoy.  I learned at my son's house when we first relocated here years ago that the there were often Rabbis wandering around and I did NOT want them to damage the plants I'd placed in the ground.  After purchasing some attractive tall pots and had the plants arranged in them we enjoyed them for the season.

SharonE

Re: the rabbits, that is what I do, put my flowers in big pots. However, Ms Frances, for whatever reason has resisted that suggesstion. I guess at age 98, she has a right to her own opinion, but it is frustrating to see the flowers devoured year after year.

As to the chair, there doesn't seem to be any available. Also, I have IBS and a tremor which entered into my decision. I had to leave the kids alone while I went to the bathroom yesterday. I was worried to death what they would get into, but they were angels and continued playing the trivia game on the CD that I had started for them.

I've been out and planted the 3 impatiens and watered some other flowers and brought in the hummer feeders and have made some new food for them. I've also stripped the bed and have the sheets in the washer.  Not a lot of work but probably all I will get done! My back is hurting and I'm out of breath.  It's not fun to get old.

I hope you all have a good day. It's lovely here.  Sharon

Marilyn

Roger called me and he is feeling better this week, He had a fever last week of 103° for several days. The Dr. put him on antibiotics and it finally broke. He is back at work today. His cancer Dr. at University of San franciscco said he should have been on those when he was hospitalized two weeks ago. I am so relieved that I heard from  him.

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm so glad you heard from him and that he is doing better. How awful not to know what is going on.  Sending a big hug!  Sharon

JeanneP

Sharon. to me it seems like you try to do to much in one day.  When you get to hurting. Take a rest.  You are not that old yet.  My saying now to myself is. What I can't get done today will get done tomorrow.  Works.
JeanneP
