Hi Gals.  Sue, I'm so glad you have the cleaners and that your neighbor's workers did some work for you. I hope you don't get too much rain from Cindy. Believe it or not, it's supposed to curve its way up here and douse us some more. It's raining lightly again today. I'm getting awfully tired of gloomy days and we really don't need anymore rain right now. Come August, it will be another matter.

Jeanne, I"m so sorry it's so hot there. I hope it cools down soon.  Yes, Molly's Maids is a franchise, so you should be able to find them there.  I have an independent worker which carries a risk since she isn't bonded or insured, but she was recommended highly by a neighbor who has had her for 15 yrs.

Jane, so glad you're feeling better.

Mary, sometimes quiet is good.   ;)

Darlene, sorry your week has been so lousy.  Why do things come in bunches?

I'm back from PT, the cleaners, and the grocer. I got stuff put away and am now eating lunch. Bunny's appt is at 4:15 to get her staples removed.  Nothing much tomorrow.  Sharon

maryz

Nothing going on here.  We've have some lovely soft rain today - so far since midnight 1.5".  I'm delighted to have some right now.  My plants are loving it.

Happy Thursday, Buddies!

SCFSue

Jane, I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope tomorrow brings 100% improvement!

Jeanne, that kind of heat up north must be unbearable when you're used to cooler summers.  I hope you've had some relief now.

Mary, we had a lot of rain overnight, but my rain gauge broke during a very cold night during January and I haven't found a replacement.  I'm always glad for rain, although I'm ready for sunshine for a few days.

Buddies, I'm going back to the last page and will return with more replies as soon as I do.  When I try to go back after posting, it disappears!
Sue

SCFSue

Darlene, I'm sorry about your black and blue eye, the blisters, and how hot and humid it is.  Have you had lots of rain, too?

Marilyn, it's great that you back and side are now free from pain.  It must have been due to your long trip back from your vacation.

Joy, we haven't heard from you for a while.  Did you get lots of rain yesterday?  Check in and let us know how you are.

Sue

Rain comes and goes here...clears off, sun comes out, clouds come over, and it rains a tiny bit...repeat...repeat.

It sounds like we are all pretty much in the same weather pattern--heat, rain, clear, rain.  Our grass is growing so fast, the landscapers can't keep up with it.  The HVAC guy was back today.  A little low on freon, but otherwise okay. Since the unit is 10 yrs old, we are kind of holding our breaths.

Last night I got by with a Tramadol and 2 Tylenol.  I was so happy as that was the first night without even half of an oxycontin.  I took the same tonight and am wide awake at 1 AM.  Grrrrr.  Glad I can sleep in tomorrow. It's such a pain not to be able to sleep!  And yet, I have been dozing during the day.  Go figure.  My knee is hurting some tonight too.

How is your knee doing, Mary?  I remember what the dr. said, but pain wise and walking wise, how is it?

It looked like Birmingham got a tornado and bad storms yesterday. Did you have any problems, Sue?

Jane, I'm glad you're feeling better.

All for now.. Guess I'll play some solitaire.  Sharon

maryz

It's been very quiet in here lately.

Sharon, my knee is doing much better pain-wise - except when I "sit to stand".  And, surprisingly to me, during the night - toward morning, actually.  I don't understand that, but....  I've been doing with just my usual muscle relaxant before bed, with maybe some XS acetaminophen once or twice sometime during the day.  The injection on Monday in the right knee (non-operated one) didn't seem to have much effect - at least not yet.

We just got the edge of "Cindy" here.  I have about 3" of rain in the gauge since early Thursday morning - and that was as a nice slow rain.  We're headed to Fort Morgan (which got hit pretty hard) next Saturday, so hope there wasn't too much damage, and that there isn't another storm heading that way.  Margaret is planning to come here next Friday evening and sleep here.  Then we'll leave first thing Saturday morning.  It's about an 8-hour drive.  It's looking like we'll have about 14-16 through the week.  I'm looking forward to some good seafood and maybe even some blue crabs.  Yum!

Happy Weekend, Buddies!

Actually,we did not have the predicted flood and inundation that was predicted (and
possible hurricanes) at least not here in Baton Rouge.  However, a lot of places DID
have flooding due to heavy rains.  The grounds here are still soaked from the flooding
we had in the Spring. Sun  is shining brightly right now but that can change at any time. ::)

Good morning, Buddies.  It's almost 11:00 and I'm just "putzin'" around this morning.  I stayed up late to reread a book I've read at least 3 times--you can see that boredom has set in!  It's pouring rain right now--we've had so much rain the past couple of weeks--and this is quite a down pour, so no yard work for me this morning.  I'd planned to dig up new mimosa trees in hopes of curtailing their growth.

When I looked out my bedroom window when I got up this morning, I see that the bush beans I planted last week have sprouted and unless they get TOO much rain should produce quite a nice fall crop of beans.  Probably some weeds, too!

I guess I'll be looking for something to read shortly and won't do much else today.  I have lots of weeding and pruning to do, but it won't be done in the rain.

Jane, you sound more like yourself this morning, and I hope you're well on your way to feeling great.

Sharon, we didn't have a tornado or high winds here yesterday, but that could change any minute.  I'm sorry that you had a tough night and hope you can catch up on your sleep today.

Mary, I'm sorry about the continued knee pain.  I hope it clears up in time for your trip to the Gulf.  I envy that!  I wish I could go down to the beach and just enjoy sitting outside in the sunshine (and there's not much of that down there today!).

Joy, it's good to see you checking in and that you didn't get all that heavy rain.  My son's family in the New Orleans area have had fairly nice weather, too.  Hurray for the sunshine at your place today!

I guess I'll be staying inside most of today--I need to find something to read that I haven't read in a while.  Tim didn't have time to take me to the library after we had lunch yesterday.  I have a volunteer taking me to the dentist on Monday--maybe she wouldn't mind stopping at the library afterwards--it will depend on the length of my teeth cleaning.

Have a good day and stay tuned to the weather forecast!

Sue

SharonE

Sue, I bet you're really bored without a new book to read and wet weather outside.

Mary, it doesn't sound tooo bad if you can get by with a muscle relaxer and ex tylenol.  Too bad your shot didn't work though.  Your trip, as usual, sounds wonderful.   Eat lots of seafood for me!!

Joy, glad you didn't get anymore rain in BR when you're still drying out.

I got to sleep about 2:30 and slept till 10:00. Then I read the paper and my SS lesson and got dressed. After that, I went to visit the wife of our SS leader. She has been house bound for months and now they've called in hospice. I had sent her a note but hadn't visited, so did so.  She doesn't have an ounce of fat on her body and spends much of the day sleeping.  She gets up for a late breakfast and stays up in her wheelchair for 2-3 hrs, so I timed my visit for then.

I still haven't done my exercises, but will in a bit.  I hope everyone has  a nice day.  Take care, Sharon

jane

Afternoon, Buddies!

Cool, beautiful day here....upper 60s...so I got a walk in early and then did the grocery store thing for a couple items for supper tonight. We're having Gary and Kathy who just got home from a trip through the Canadian west and Glacier, etc. with our bank club.  They're exhausted from the train travel...24 hours on Amtrak out here is NOT a nice experience.

Time to sit down and rest for a bit and then continue with the laundry.

jane

SharonE

We're back from SS & church, getting gas & picking up some furnace filters. Have now eaten and put in a load of towels. That's about it for my constructive activities for the day.

Jane, glad you're getting some nice weather for a change. Enjoy your dinner tonight with your friends.

Hi to all.  Sharon

GinnyAnn

Hi my Buddies  :)  I've been doing stuff slowly.  The med I am on has me somewhat lightheaded. Sat on the back deck for awhile. Blue sky and a breeze made it very enjoyable. When Max wanted back inside we came inside.

SCFSue

Good afternoon, Buddies.  It was still damp from last night's rain when I woke up, but the sun came out before I was dressed for SS and Church.  Olyne picked me up and afterwards brought me home.  We had a guest preacher as our two pastors (a married couple) were at Montreat leading a couple of camps--I think some of our youth were attending summer camps/conferences.

The sun is shining and I should have been outside weeding and trimming shrubs, but instead fixed and ate lunch, finished reading this morning's paper, and after cleaning up the lunch dishes, I went back to my bedroom and have been reading a paper back novel I've read previously, but had forgotten the plot.

It's nice to see posts from Jane, Sharon, and GinnyAnn this afternoon.  I hope all are well and enjoying a nice day.

Sue

jane

Evening, Buddies....a strange day here....upper 50s most of the day.  I had to dig out a fleece jacket and heavier jeans for a short walk.  Weird for this late in June.  It's either way too hot or way too cold!

Jane

SharonE

That IS odd, Jane, but I saw a cold front moving across the country. We are to be down in the low 80's with low humidity (unheard of here in the summer), but that is cool for us at this time.

Ginny, so glad to see your post and that you got out on your deck with your dog. Have you talked to your doctor about the light-headedness from your med?  If not, you should.  You could fall with that.

Sue, you sound as motivated as I do.  I started a new (to me) Danielle Steele book last night. Had trouble putting it down.

I took a Melatonin again last night and am so sleepy still at 11:00 AM that I can hardly keep awake. Think I will break it in half tonight. I did sleep well though.  My knee is still hurting a lot, so I put a brace on it today to support it. It is helping a little.  I haven't done my exercises yet, but my cleaning girl is here, so I'll wait till she leaves.

I did get my church news notices in, so that's done for the week.  Yesterday, I sent in our passport #'s to Brian so we can get on base without much hassle.  SC does not have an approved drivers license yet, so we have to use our passports.

Not much else to report here.  PT tomorrow.   Hi to Mary, Joy, Darlene and Marilyn.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Hi gals....still nursing the blister on my heel....haven't walked last few days...because of it....can sure tell the difference....I do enjoy my walks....thinking of looking for some heel protectors.....our church is having VBS..this week..so I volunteered to go in and help with getting them registered...some of them did it on line...we had over 50.....so far....will go back in morning...9 to 12.....it finally cooled down some...really need rain....well better go get clothes from dryer....hope u all have a good week..Darlene

maryz

Hi gals!  It's been very quiet and dull around here.  I got my pre-beach haircut this morning, and will go for my mani/pedi on Wednesday.  That's about all the excitement until we leave for the beach on Saturday.

I got my copy of The Tennessee Conservationist magazine today.  It's mostly about the state parks and natural areas of TN.  There's an article about the upcoming eclipse in this issue.  Do y'all know about it?  The eclipse will be 21 August, and will literally cross the US from around Portland, OR, to the Georgia coast.  Chattanooga will be in the "area of totality" about 2:30 that afternoon.  I'm excited that we'll be able to experience that. Unless Marilyn is getting some of it, I guess I'm the only one here who will get such a good view.

Hi, Buddies....still very pleasant weather-wise here...in mid 70s today.

Plumber finally came this morning...and apologized...he said our request got buried in all the AC calls they had when the weather was terrible, and he thought one of the other guys had taken care of us.  When Ray went back Friday, Jim (one of the co-owners) saw the request and he called at 8:00 this morning and was here by 8:15.  He had to "rotor rooter" out the kitchen sink line.  What a difference now.

We then went on to CR to see about a new dehumidifer. We found we could get the same one that was highly rated online from Amazon for $40.00 less than Best Buy wanted and it'll be delivered to our door. The interesting thing we found, too, was that this same dehumidifier is available at Amazon for about 4 different prices, so it pays to check carefully!

Home now and then tomorrow afternoon we have to go to Iowa City for my eye appt at Visual Sciences there at U of Ia Hospitals and Clinics.  It's a followup, so hope for good news.

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I started this post and hit the wrong key and was totally knocked off Seniors and Friends.  I got back in and here I am.  I've been outside for the past 45 minutes pulling up oak tree sprouts and weeds as well as cutting back unwanted trees.

One of the Village Friends picked me up this morning at 11:45 and took me to Tim's dentist (now mine) for my 6 month checkup.  The hygienist I had today did a good job and gave me some tips about cleaning a bone thingie that has been in the roof of my mouth since I was a kid.  She gave me a plastic thing that can squirt around it to help get food out--it's been a problem all my life.  So I was happy with that.  Nothing new to fix, though, so that was a good visit.

When I came home, I fixed lunch, ate it, and laid down on my bed and read for a hour or so.  Then I went outside and pulled up oak seedlings (2 trugs full) and other weeds.  I'm trying to get my yard back into shape and I have lots of unwanted plants running amok!  I'm inside for the rest of the afternoon.  I'll turn on the evening news programs soon and try to find something I'd like to eat--I might make a Waldorf salad with apples, nuts, and celery.  That usually hits the spot on a hot day.

Sharon, I'm guessing Brian has quarters on the base.  I forget just where he is stationed now.  When are you going to visit?  I'm glad you slept well last night.  If we had high winds here in Auburn, it must have happened when I was sleeping.  No reports of damage here.

Darlene, I'm surprised that you are needing rain.  We've had more than enough the past week.  We're finally having a sunny day today.  Our church is having VBS this week, too, but since I can't drive yet, I am not able to help.  Last year I helped with registration.

Mary, I envy you the upcoming beach trip.  I'd sure love to leave town for a week!  I have been reading about the eclipse, too, and we are expected to see some of it during the day.  Don't wear yourself out getting ready for the trip to the beach!  Are you renting the same condos this year?

Jane, hurray for plumber Jim to realize your request hadn't been answered!  I'd like to hear your results of the dehumidifier purchased at Amazon.  We've been so dry here until this week that I haven't even turned my dehumidifier on this summer.  I have my fingers crossed for good news tomorrow from the eye appointment.

It's time for the evening news programs and I need to think about something to eat.  I'm not hungry, though, as I woke up late for breakfast and ate lunch about 1:30 after my dental appointment.

Have a nice evening, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

Hi again!  Duplicate tonight.  I don't think we did too well tonight, but probably not a bust, either.  They haven't posted the results yet.

Sue, we're in the same house (both sides of a duplex) that we're rented for the last 10-12 years.  We've never used a condo - always too many people for that.  Fortunately, I don't have to do much any more to get ready to go - just get stuff that I need.  Nowadays, I just pay for the house.  Everybody else does everything else.  :smitten:
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Hi Sue, glad you didn't have weather problems.  I don't envy you your tree sprouts all over your yard. That sounds like a really major job.  Good on the dentist and good luck on the eye dr.   Brian is stationed at McGuire AFB in northern NJ. It is part of a tripartite base representing Army, Navy & AF.  Brian is Vice Commander of the Mobility Unit there and yes, he's required to live on base. They have a hotel on base, too, so that's where all of us will be staying. We will be there 5-9.  On the 10th, the moving packers are coming in to start the process of moving him out.  He and Traecy closed on their new house in Belleville, IL last week.  Traecy and Braeden flew to St Louis, rented a car and went to the U of Mo Freshman orientation for 2 days.  In the meantime, Brian & Sean drove one of their cars down to meet them at the house, where he was able to garage it, use Traecy's rental and then all 4 fly back home after they did the paper work on the closing! It's a good thing he is good at strategic planning!  :D

Mary, I hope you have your usual wonderful seaside vacation with your family.  I think you've got it right to write a check and let everyone else take care of the rest.

I'm back from PT. My knee was hurting quite a bit yesterday and I was worried about it, but my gal says that it is probably some scar tissue forming and did some deep massage and laser work on the sore area as well as doing my usual exercises and bicycle.

I don't remember if I mentioned that I had lost my little tracfone cell phone, but I had. I had called Kohl's-negative, stopped specially at Harris Teeters today--negative, went to pick up cleaning & asked there--negative, went out to hang the cleaning in the back seat of the car and guess what I saw on the floor?!!  I was so happy, because I was about to go buy a real smart phone and I really didn't want the hassle right now. I had looked everywhere in the front of the car but hadn't considered the back seat.  Anyway, I'm a happy camper now.

Nothing else  scheduled for the rest of the day.  Finish my book, maybe.  Sharon

Marilyn

Good afternoon Ladies. Sorry I haven't been here for a couple of days, but I did come to read. Not a whole lot is new here, Just going about the usualy daily things I always do. the gym, walking freckles, making bread, and so on We will be leaving agin  the week of the 16th to go to Vancouver Washington and to Portland to the the Eye Institute for Keith's eye exam. We will stay at Craig's in Vancouver and Corey will drive us to the Eye Institute on Wednesday. Vancouver is just over the Columbia river from Portland. I still have some paperwork to fill out and some additional paperwork to go over w2ith Keith so that he fully nunderstands the details.

Freckles and I will visit the cancer center tomorrow. So I need to wipe her down with the foam dry shampoo so there will be nothing on her that would affect  the patients having Chemo. (not sure if that is affect or effect)

SCFSue

Hello Buddies.  I've been out to my once a month luncheon bridge at Azalea Place, a local retirement community.  Some of the members live there.  We had lunch and then played cards in a different room than we usually use.  They were having a party in that room today--might have been someone's birthday.

It's sunny and finally pretty warm here.  I really should go outside and do a little more pruning, but I'm not in the mood, so will change into my "soft clothes" as Mary calls them and stay inside where it's cool.

Mary, I know you'll enjoy being at the beach with your children, grandchildren, and ? whoever else might be coming.  I am VERY ENVIOUS!  Enjoy--and I know you will--and don't eat too many shrimp!

Sharon, is Brian retiring or is now reassigned to Belleville?  Either way, it sounds as if they've chosen Belleville for a permanent home.  And Braedan will be eligible for in state tuition--which is always a good deal these days.

Marilyn, you are ONE BUSY WOMAN!  I'm glad Keith has an appointment at the Eye Institute--and hope that they can find a solution for his vision problems.  Keep us posted.  I am sure that Freckles will be a big hit at the cancer center tomorrow.

Not much else to report.  Hello to Jane, GinnyAnn, and other Buddies looking in today.  Have a nice afternoon and evening.

Sue

SharonE

Marilyn, I, too, hope Keith finds a solution to his eye problems at the eye Institute.  Have a safe drive.  How many miles is it to Portland from your place?  I'm sure everyone was delighted to see Freckles today at the Cancer Ctr.

Sue, Brian is retiring after 25 yrs, but he will find another job.  Scott AFB has said they will offer him a contract position in October when he is officially retired, but I think he is kind of looking around to see if there is something better. Anyway, he has Scott as a backup.  Braeden will be going to college in MO, so not in-state tuition, but he has some scholarships.  I'm still surprised he chose MO over Purdue or U of IL. I'll find out the details during our visit. Anyway, they like Belleville and are in a good school district for Sean as he has 3 more years of HS.

I played bridge today too and had lunch there. My cards were horrible and so was my play!  But the company was fun.

A guy was supposed to be here at 1:00 to detail my car, but he misplaced my information, so after I called him, we rescheduled for Friday. Obviously not too well organized.

Mary, you were talking about the eclipse. Colombia, SC (2 hrs south of us) is supposed to be the best site to see it on the east coast.  I doubt we'll drive down, but I do plan to watch from here.  I remember seeing a total eclipse in Indiana back when Melanie was in 1st grade!!  If anyone plans to watch it, do be sure to buy the special protective glasses. Sun glasses won't work.  The website is https//eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety  It was listed in our paper today. Hope your bridge was better than mine.

I've done my exercises and am currently icing my knee.  I sure will be glad when it gets back to something like normal.  Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Hi folks!  I haven't written much, because I haven't been doing much.  Mostly playing on the computer, knitting, and watching NCIS reruns.  Pretty bad!

Marilyn, I hope all works out for Keith.  I know you'll be letting us know.

Sharon, best wishes to Brian in his retirement.  When is your NJ trip?

Sue, we always had oak seedlings in the yard, but the lawnmower took care of that (operated by someone other than me).  They can be a nuisance, though.

jane, I hope your doctor visits go okay.  Seems that's all we do.

Hugs to Darlene, Jeanne, Ginny Ann, and anybody else I forgot.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Sharon I'm not sure of the exact mileage to Portland I do know on a good day with just normal traffic it takes about 4-4.5 hours depending non potty breaks and a lunch stop. Maybe 5 hours would be more accurate. However, The traffic get pretty dicey and the last time we went it took us 2.5 hours just to get through Portland traffic., with a grand total of 7 hours driving. I am n ot looking forward to another long drive so soon.

Corey and Maddie are getting Married on August 21 in the afternoon. We have all been invited for Brunch in our pajamas at 9am and the eclipse starts at 9.06.  They are getting married at Black Butte Ranch  which is another long drive for me.  Then I get to take a long break until Christmas and the california visit to Gilbert's. I am wondering about that visit since Sarah is divorcing him and he might be losing the house.

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  Another busy day here.  I woke up about 7:30, ate breakfast, read the morning paper, dressed in work clothes, put in a load of wash, and went outside to dig up more oak seedlings, pull weeds, etc.  I came inside about 10:00 and showered, dressed to go to bridge, worked today's crossword puzzle, and ate lunch.  I talked to Merilin on the phone about her upcoming surgery in July, phoned Kathy at the church office,  and Terri pick me up for bridge and we went around the block to pick up Libba and out to Sara's house to play.  I had some good hands and some not so good, played some well and some not so well--a fairly usual day at my Wednesday bridge club.  Terri came in after we dropped off Libba and we drank a glass of wine.

Now I've watched the news and will check out a long western movie on TCM.  Tim is coming by tomorrow to take me to lunch and afterwards to Kroger, so I must get my grocery list ready this evening.

I hope you've all had a good day.
Sue

GinnyAnn

I've been having Fibro days.  :(  Didn't even bother to get dressed today. Ray usually suggests I get into day clothes but he let it go today. So far I have been able to prepare supper for us.  :)  Read all the posts, but didn't take notes.  :-[ Hi to all the Buddies.

jane

Storms here again and rain possible through the 4th, so getting some reading and knitting done.

Eye exam went well...no signs of macular degeneration or glaucoma.  They want me to try getting along without my glasses to get an idea about lenses when cataract surgery comes up.  I have "monovision"...one eye is far sighted and other is near sighted...which some people wear a contact lens to get...so they think I could pass eye test for driver's license without glasses.  I feel safer wearing the glasses for driving, though.

Bridge was fun though I didn't place in top 3...still enjoyable.

Quiet days ahead with all the rain and storms.

Jane
