Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Another dismal day.  Rain and mist.  I KNOW the bridge is there, and therefore I can make out a just slightly darker than the sky grey smudge where it should be.  The "Yard Boats," as the Navy calls them, which are miniature destroyers, are the only moving objects out there on the choppy waves of the Chesapeake.  Young men and women learning to become Admirals.

Well, I shall snuggle down in my easy chair and read, read, read.  Hope some of you are getting some sun!  Hugs & kisses from MaryPage

jane

We had ao many of those days last week, MaryPage.  Only thing to do is nap and read.

Overcast here earlier, but a bit more sunshine, now, though still cool and windy.

Not much energy here...cold and cough slowly getting better, but still in my ears.

Well, we are having another such day.  It is not raining yet, but promising to.  The bridge and the Eastern Shore are chalky blue smudges against the paler milky sky.  Not a cloud in sight, as the whole sky IS cloud!

I am having a good time just diddling and piddling around.  Puttering aimlessly, getting all sorts of tiny, insignificant matters taken care of.  Chip has reglued all of the leather layers on the plastic inserts for my shoes.  Since these cost a handful to begin with, and the podiatrist wants $50 each pair for this repair, I am happy with the savings realized.

Happy Day, Buddies!  Hope we hear from Sue soon.  Isn't this the day she was due to go home?

SharonE

It's very overcast here too with a chance of showers. Same through the weekend except to be more storms and rain Saturday.  Yuck.  I know we need rain regularly, but it would be nice if it were spaced out.  I still think someone needs to lobby Mother Nature to only have rain between midnight and 6 AM.  Don't you all think that would be a good idea?   :D

My cleaning girl was here this morning, which always makes me feel good.  John is off to bridge and I really should find something constructive to do but I'm really leaning toward curling up with a good book!  Sharon

MaryPage

I've always thought that would be a good idea, Sharon, except I would choose eleven P.M. until five A.M.

And temperatures would always be a low of 50° and a high of 70°.  And the sun would shine all day long.  Way to go!

jane

Made a visit to Clinic to have my blood pressure checked and it was sky high....so they tried 3 times which only makes it go higher.  Finally they made me sit there and "relax" and tried the 4th time and it was just slightly lower....so I'm getting another med for it.  Now to see if the ditzy nurse who I spoke to has bothered to call it in.  I'm just relaxing and trying to "destress" so I can get it down some.

Always something!!

jane

Marilyn

Well I got that dreaded letter from the Women's Imaging Center. I have to go to the hospital this time  for either an Ultrasound or another mammogram. This has happened to me before as i have the dense breasts, so it is no biggy, I am not eneveconcerned about it.

MaryPage

Well, we'll think positively about it, too, Marilyn.

Jane, I have the extremely high blood pressure problem, as well and all, and it comes as such a huge surprise to me after a lifetime of always low (not extremely low, just low) blood pressure.  I am taking the maximum amount of medication possible, and it is a real worry.  And hey, that is precisely what you are NOT supposed to do:  worry!  Being old is a constant series of attacks from a myriad directions, until you just flat out get totally confused as to what is going on.  Good luck to you!

Hey, I just bumped into a brand new, to me, little bit of trivia.  Today The Capital did a feature story on this year's plebes having to finish out their first year at the Academy with a grueling 14 HOUR series of extreme physical trials.  One guy, who graduated from a local High School and was pretty much describing most of the stuff they had to do all day to the newspaper reporter doing the story, told how between events some of them were hurriedly tossing little packets of mustard down their throats because mustard is full of salt and would prevent muscle cramps in their legs!  Woo hoo!  A new thing to try!  Do you think it would work with night time leg cramps?  Worth trying, say I!  So grab some of those little packets next time you get a chance and stash them in the drawer of your night table!  First one to actually try it, report in!

maryz

MaryPage, I've heard about mustard, too.  But also, I've heard of athletes drinking pickle juice to prevent leg cramps.  And we all know about the potassium thing (bananas, tomatoes, etc.).  A chiropractor friend said that a calcium deficiency could cause them, too, and suggested I take extra calcium (I take two 600 mg caplets/day) in the evening, if I think I might have leg cramps at night.  (I get them really bad when I've been doing a lot of walking or general traveling.)  Calcium and bananas did seem to help on the recent trip.  Never fun in any case.

Marilyn, sorry about the retesting.  Good thoughts from here, too.

jane, sorry about your BP.  Mine always runs fairly high, too, and I'm on medication.  I know weight loss and more exercise would help me, but.......   You know how that goes (or doesn't).

Sharon, I hope you got some good reading in this afternoon.

I haven't had much to say, so haven't been writing much.  I've been having a sort-of background sinus headache today, so I've decided not to go up for dinner tonight.  And I'm already in my soft clothes and slippers.  I have some homemade soup from the freezer (from last fall) in a pot warming on the stove, and that'll be my dinner.  It feels much better already.  LOL  There's a bridal shower for Clare (Matt's fiancée) on Saturday.  Margaret's picking me up and we'll make a day trip to the Atlanta area.  I think this will be mostly friends her age, so I'll definitely be "background".

I hope we get some news about Sue soon.  I haven't tried to get in touch with her, but she is on my mind.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Boo on having to go back for another mammo, Marilyn.

I've been thinking of Sue all day...think she was to go home today...the 18th?

Finally back home after having the pharmacist (a former student) called doc's office for a different drug since the first one could give me a sulfa reaction. I'm very allergic to sulfa.   I took my bp here at home and it's fine...134/60.  That's a huge reduction from what it was, and I haven't  taken the new med yet.

I hope we can get up to the greenhouse tomorrow to see about geraniums for my hanging baskets and front landscape.

Jane

SharonE

Jane, glad the BP is down. Usually they let you monitor it and keep track of it at home and show it to the dr before starting a new BP med.  White coat syndrome is so common. My pressure has always been low, but has been higher lately. Not sure why. Maybe my weight gain.

Mary, the book I started was one I had already read, so I got involved with other stuff, including making an appt to get my car windshield replaced. I got a ding that caused a crack last week. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. HOpe the soup helps.  I had good luck taking SlowMag for my leg cramps, but it also caused me to have diarrhea, so I had to stop it.  No problem lately though.  I take 1200 iu of Calcium daily and have for years. I'm lactose intolerant + I'm on the cusp of osteoporosis.

I sent Sue an email today. I also tried her cell phone, but the voice mail is full. It did give me the option of leaving my phone # so they could page her. Don't know if that is on her phone or what. I've been worried too.

Jane, I'm sure you're ready to get your pretty geraniums hanging on your porch. The pictures I've seen of past years are always so pretty.

MP, I'll let you know if I try the mustard thing!  However, I would think it would be most effective after hard exertion.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Positive thoughts to Marlyin...Jane. Every time I go in to Dr.    My BP is up....says white coat syndrome.....when I get home..it's fine...so I take  daily numbers to the Dr on my appt...There's been rain all around us...dry here...but cool...Hi to all Darlene

JeanneP

Now it seems like about every two years. (I get mamo yearly). they call me to come back for a Sona one done.  Been doing it for past 15 years.  It usually if when a new one reads it. I have a couple of little fibroids that show up . Little white specs. I always look at them after she takes them and see them there so know what is happening.

Tonight I had the fun of finding out what Miranda Hart has been up to.  She is the British actress who plays Chummy on Call The Midwife, only she has been missing for a couple of seasons.  I remember when this series started I read a piece that said she was a really huge favorite in the UK, so when it was written into the script that her character was supposed to be elsewhere for a while, I figured Miranda Hart must not have figured on Midwife lasting so many seasons, and had other contracts.  Well, I just saw her in the movie SPY on HBO, and she was wonderful.  The movie was a hoot: a huge spoof of the James Bond movies, but featuring our CIA.  My one objection was the filthy language, but I watched it anyway because I am such a big fan of Melissa McCarthy.  I did not know about Hart being in it until she popped up, but she had a Big part and was GREAT!

GinnyAnn

We had a lovely, altho cool, spring day. I enjoyed sitting on my front deck and Max wandered around the front yard before laying down under one of our apple trees.

I'm worried about Sue. I miss her daily posts.  :(

jane

Morning, Gals...
It sounds as if you had a pleasant "sit out," GinnyAnn!!

I hope our Sue can get back to us soon, too.  I'm glad she has Tim right there.

It looks to be a beautiful day here...Ray is running some errands and then we'll go to the two greenhouses in town and see if I can find some geraniums.

I've been checking my blood pressure here at home and it's good.  I haven't started the new med yet...want to see what it is without it.  I know I have White Coat syndrome when it comes to BP.  I guess I have that "old age" thing of not wanting to be overmedicated!   :idiot2:

Have a good Thursday in your corner of the world!

jane

JeanneP

I am surprised that Sue's Tim has not posting something in here letting us know how she is.

Sue.....we need to hear from you......Darlene

SharonE

Hi Gals, if Sue doesn't get in touch with someone tomorrow, I will try to contact Tim and make sure she is okay.

I just got back from a late trip to the grocery. Yuck.  Before that, John and I were photographing all our valuables to itemize for our estate for the kids and also in case of fire or theft.  Now I have to print them all out and put them in the lockbox.

Other than that, I haven't done a whole lot.  Ginny Ann, glad you're enjoying time on the porch. Nice time of year for it.

Our weather has been dreary and drippy all day. Not a smidge of sun.

MP, glad you found where Chummy was hiding. I, too, always enjoyed her. She was so perfect for the part in The Midwives.

Have a nice evening.  Sharon

I also have been going through the mammogram re-testing . I had a repeat mammogram & ultra sound on Tuesday of this week . Today in the mail I got a letter that the doctor wants another evaluation .  I don't see the doctor until May 31 , long time to wait & be in the dark !   My imagination runs wild & I get all nervous .

jane

Very understandable, Alpiner. I know it's easy for everyone to say "don't worry," and that's not easy, but I hope you can.

We did get out to the greenhouses here, and the flowers are really not very plentiful.  We went on down to Cedar Rapids and got some there.  The one clerk said a lot of people have had to re-buy as the first ones froze last week.  I will go back to a local greenhouse for flowers for my baskets.  They are 1/2 the price they wanted in CR.

So, tomorrow will be planting day here, I guess.   :smiley6600:

maryz

alpiner, keep coming here to talk.  We've all been there and are only to ready to listen and answer questions and just sent hugs.

Marilyn

My Dr. Appointment today went well. She said that in the report she got from imaging said that on both breasts up by  my arm pit shows something asymmetrical so I will have a different mammogram that will squeeze  much tighter, they will read it and if necessary will do an ultrasound. I am not worried about them finding anything. She told me if it was her she would be freaking out. My dr. is also afraid of needles. Who woulda thunk it. I also have to see the ENT because of the hoarsness in my throat. That is another thing that has happened before and turned out to be post nasal drip caused. However it really pays to be on the safe sideeaand rule things out.

Only 3 more sleeps untiil the big day Tomorrow is  finally a free day for me so i am doing to wash my hair and do my so short nails. They are still recovering from having the acrylics for so many years., I had tham taken off about a year ago and rub iol into the nail and around the  cuticles every  night trying to strengthen them and get them healthy again.

I sure hope we can find out any news on  Sue pretty soon.

jane

Your Day is almost here, Marilyn!  Are you enjoying the new car?

Bad night...didn't get to sleep until 1:30 with all the joints being painful, and then neighbor two doors down woke me at 5:30 am as he reved up his motorcycle and left, I assume, for work! GRRRR!

Today will be an easy one....planting the flowers we bought yesterday, and one more trip outside of town for larger pots of geraniums for my hanging baskets.

Jane

We here in Baton Rouge had a humongus(sp) storm last night----lightning, thunder, trees down , AND outages all

and TV >:( Computer just came back on (it is 3:45P.M.).
Still no TV :(  How did we ever live without all these things
before????? :'( :'( :'(

Glad you're OK!  Maybe having the TV off will be peaceful.

We are due for a NorEaster tomorrow.  They are saying the worst of it will be between seven A.M. and two P.M.  Wish us luck!

Sharon, can you try Sue again?  I am beginning to really fret over not hearing anything.

MaryPage

#448
It's here.  The NorEaster.  Dark as can be for nine o'clock on a May morning, it is pouring buckets.  I guess we are in for it for a while.

I had a lot of fun yesterday afternoon and evening.  I discovered a television channel I had not previously known existed:  Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.  It is channel number 157 here in Annapolis for Comcast.  I watched the Chocolate Cookie Mystery and the Plum Pudding Mystery and the Peach Cobbler Mystery.  Fun.  Silly, perhaps, but no sex, no gruesome violence, and no filthy language.  It was a pleasant indulgence.

jane

I, too, hope we can hear from our Sue soon or Sharon can find a way to reach Tim.

MaryPage....yikes!  Stay in and safe.

Beautiful day here...to get to 80s.  We want to walk this morning, and then finish our planting of pots.

Jane
