I'm so happy!  I was able to get my back doctor's appt this Friday! It is not at the usual close place, but we can make it. My back gets so sore after therapy.

One of our SS members came by to visit this afternoon. I was so glad because John couldn't come. She eve brought me a bag of Hershey chocolates!

Jeanne, I hope you get into the doctor tomorrow.

Jane, I also hope you are able to sleep later.

All for now.  Hi to everyone.  Marilyn, hope you get the carpet out soon.  Sharon.

jane

Jeanne...yes RMD required for me, too, since I turned 70 1/2 from my IRA and Ray from his, of course. And it's all taxable since it was put in without paying taxes.  However, with his passing, I understand this year's RMD still will be made to me and the rest of the IRA either transferred into mine or made a separate one. I'm not sure which.

Sharon...nice to have a visitor and to get to see your doctor.

Marilyn...will K know his old classmates at the reunion?  I'm assuming you'll be by his side at all times.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I wrote a post and when I went back to add to it, it had disappeared.  I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen.  I'll go out for my morning walk shortly.  I'm glad to see that Jane is tying up loose ends.  I hope Every Buddy is having a good day.  Sharon, I hope you're feeling much better.

Have a nice day, every Buddy.
Sue

Marilyn

Well Jane he knew some of them other he didn't recognize. Last night I took him around so he could greet people, good thing everyone had name tags. So he did get to see most of them. Tonight the dinner at the casino will be a little easier  at least for me. I can always get one of his friends to take him to the mens room if necessary.

jane

Marilyn...sounds as if it went well.  I didn't recognize most of my hs classmates at our 50th.  Of course it was the first and last one I'll attend, and I haven't lived in that town since I was 18...a few years ago.   ;D

Sue...I, too, got out early this morning while temp was just 60.  Nice and cool for a walk...and a sign fall is coming.  The kids here go back to school tomorrow...yep, a Friday...first legal day they can start, and so they do.

Mary...I made an appt with a CPA where I have my taxes done to go over all these forms.  22 pages of boxes to fill out for a very small amount of money intimidates me when my brain isn't very clear at the moment.  Medallion signatures, etc. sounds like overkill to me.

Sharon...hope your PT is going well and you can look forward to getting back home in the next few weeks.

I need to get out and attack some of the weeds. They're beyond plentiful.

Quickie.  I'm in hospital.  Went to er instead of doc office.  Pacemaker being put in tomorrow.  Home first of week.  Team consult to decide what's next,  about valves.  Using tablet for now. Kate's gone home, Margaret here now. Both tomorrow.  Will keep you posted.

Mary....GREAT thinking to go right to ER!  Nothing wrong with your brain.  Now to get your heart and lungs fixed up.  I'm so glad you're in the hospital where people who know what they're doing can get you comfortable and ready for your "Fix It" job.

Today is Back to School and I walked and the traffic was incredible.  Kids with backpacks on bikes trying to cross the busy street and school buses rolling all around between the Catholic primary school and the public primary. Add to it all the parents with cameras out taking pictures of First Day.

It's a beautiful early fall day here...temp was 60 when I walked and now I need to get into the shower and get cleaned up for my lunch out at noon in a neighboring town with old friend from teaching days I haven't seen for a while.

Hi Gals,  I'm showered, dressed, fed and ready for the day. Have even ordered a doughnut pillow from Amazon.  I hope it's better than others I have used.  I was exhausted last night from the long trip to the doctor and the waiting, etc. They took pictures and agreed that there might be a problem, however, there was only one spot that looked questionable and they are going to do another scan. She reported to John and he couldn't remember. We're going to wait for the other scan till I'm out of rehab since we found out we have to pay for it if I'm in rehab!! I was in therapy and didn't get the call. Boy was that therapy hard after the long trip.  My OT is much better than any I've had, but harder on me.  Apparently, she has taken additional classes in kenesics (sp) and can tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong that might cause me to fall.  I have always gone at things like "killing tigers" according to my mother, and it causes me to hurry and put my feet wrong. She's trying to correct that and slow me down and explain when I misstep. Of course I'm using a walker, but I felt I learned a lot yesterday even though it's difficult to change a lifetime's habits. As she says, we can't do at 80 what we did at 20 and get away with it. I think I have the weekend off, but I'm not sure.

Mary, I hope everything goes well in the hospital. As Jane said, you're where you need to be.  That heart business is scary and serious.

Jane, we also get money from our annuities and have to pay taxes. Almost everything is in my name, so John will have a lot to do if I go first.  We are considering moving into a retirement center, not immediately, but maybe within the year. This crisis with me has made John think more seriously about it. We will find one near here since John will want to continue with his bridge.  We're trying to get the 3 kids here before the end of the year to decide what things of ours they want and what we want to keep and the rest we will try to sell or donate.  I hate to get rid of my sentimental items, but most of them will have to go.

Marilyn, there were quite a few at my 60th reunion that I didn't recognize, but there were a lot I did.  My BFF's from HS were there and we had a separate dinner together the first night when nothing was scheduled.  Of course, I stayed with one of them while I was there. The others no longer lived in Indy.  Keith & you looked really nice at the reunion.  I won't go to any more reunions. They are just having luncheons every few years now.  It's too difficult to arrange a 3-day weekend.  I hope you get your carpets out and floors sanitized soon.  I worry about your lungs too.

Hi to Jeanne, Alpiner, Darlene, Joy and anyone else that pops in. Hope you are all doing well. I'm a little more mobile now and that makes a big difference, although I still can't walk without a walker.     Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  Jane, I'm glad to see your post this morning.  I hope the paperwork, etc. is going well and you are able to have some time for yourself.  I know this is a tough time for you and hope that you'll be able to finish up soon.  I suspect you're very well organized and all will soon be taken care of.  Is your sister still visiting you?  I know the loss of Ray has been devastating--it takes quite a while to get used to being alone after a long and happy marriage.  Thoughts and prayers continue for you from here in Auburn.

Mary, good luck with your new pacemaker.  I've had one for 2 years now and I'm feeling 100% better every day.  It's certainly made a difference in my life and I hope will do the same for you.  I'm able to walk outside daily and also to work in my yard when it's not too hot (which means getting outside pretty early!).  Keep us posted.

Eddie took me to the library and to Kroger yesterday.  He has been doing this for over a month now.  We ran into Bonney on our way into Kroger and talked for a bit.  I'd had an early morning phone call from Ethel's daughter who told me that Ethel had died early yesterday morning.  Ethel has been pretty much a recluse since her husband died about 4 years ago.  She dropped out of our bridge club and stopped coming to church.  She was severely depressed.  Her daughter lives near Chicago and works there.  My son Bill is an aquaintance of Ethel's daughter as they both attend meetings in Chicago annually.

Not much else to report this morning.  I hope Every Buddy has a nice day today.

Sharon, I was signing out when I saw your post.  I hope you are feeling better today and will soon be on the road to a full recovery.  Keep us posted--and big hugs for a good day today!

Sue

Got my laptop, so I'm able to write more.  The results after the pacemaker installation was immediate.  My heart rate had been about 40, and it was up into the 70s!that plus the oxygen has been wonderful.  Now that they've the emergency problem under control, they're going to work on the underlying major problem - the heart valves.  I had another echocardiogram this morning, will have some PT/OT tomorrow to help me get up and walking, and have a cardiac catheterization on Monday.  Maybe go home on Tuesday.  Then the "Valve Team " will get together and come up with some recommendations. They'll then talk with me and the girls about it, and we'll make decisions.  It definitely won't be the new, easy, through-the-catheter type fix, though.  The girls and the hospital folks have been great, so now we wait for more data.

jane, glad you're getting some cooler weather.  Predictions here are highs in the 80s for the next week - and that's a good thing...more seasonal.

Sharon, sorry the trip out was painful, but glad you're making progress overall.  Keep using that walker, even if it's permanent.  There are worse things.  I know what you mean about moving too fast.  I finally have learned to slow down...actually my body just made me do it.  I'm also glad you're considering moving into a retirement center.  It always sounds like a lot of money, but when you consider the costs that you don't have anymore (groceries, maintenance, insurance etc., etc.), it pretty much balances out.  Always major decisions, though.

Sue, good to hear about your pacemaker.  Good for you for the walking, too.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

well Mary...I ended up in the hospital Wednesday..got out yesterday..Friday...my BP was really high...so I was admitted for some test..did a heart cath ...no blockage or anything....so Dr has added Metoprolol to take besides the Losartan I was already on...try to get something that works...follow up with my Dr in 2 weeks...hope everyone is doing ok....

alpiner1

My primary care dr. has sent in a request to our insurance for me to see a dermatologist . Primary care dr. said I have a skin cancer , have had it for about 6 months & its getting larger with a white spot on top . .  I keep a band aid on it because it looks bad & I keep bumping it .

maryz

Well, sorry Darlene.  Looks like we were sharing stuff.  Glad you're out and getting some new meds.  Keep us posted.

And alpiner, looks like we're all falling apart,  It does pay to watch those "places", and see the doc when something changes.

I had a rocky start to my night, but it ended well.  I started feeling like I had before I started on the oxygen, and was concerned.  Then I thought to ask for a mask for the O2, rather than the nasal cannula.  I'm pretty much a mouth-breather, so I've had to concentrate to do all my breathing through my nose.  And my nose was getting stopped up - hence, more mouth-breathing and no O2.  It got much better with a face mask, and I wound up sleeping very soundly from 2 until 7.  So I guess I'm back on a forward path again.

Happy Sunday, Babies.

Good morning (early afternoon here!) Buddies.  I've been to SS and church.  Olyne has one of her 3 remaining sons (her youngest died of cancer several years ago) here and they didn't come to church.  Nancy G. picked me up and told me that the son who was here was leaving in early afternoon to go to Atlanta for his ride home.

On Friday my friend Ethel's daughter called to tell me Ethel is in the hospital with heart problems and isn't expected to live much longer.  Ethel's husband (and daughter and son's father) died about 4 years ago and Ethel pretty much gave up living.  She shares a cleaning lady with Bonney but just quit coming to bridge and going anywhere.  The daughter told me that Ethel has been depressed since her husband died and has just been staying at home in a depressed state.  The daughter has a similar position at her university similar to my son Bill's (he's now a dean at SIUE) and the young woman works in the Chicago area.

Ethel went up there not long after her husband died, but didn't stay long as the daughter was not home during the day and Ethel wanted to come home.  But when she did get home, she quit playing bridge with us, didn't go anywhere other than perhaps the beauty shop for haircuts, and has became pretty much of a recluse.  The daughter called me Friday to let me know that Ethel is in the hospital here in Opelika, but is very depressed and seems to want to let go of her life.  The daughter was hoping that we friends might be able to visit her, but unless someone takes me there, I won't be able to do that.  I hope you Buddies can continue to drive yourself as long as you are able.  Believe me when I say that not being able to drive is the PITS!

Mary, hooray for the pace maker!  I know you'll feel a lot better with it--I hardly know it's there and am so happy that my cardiologist put mine in after a big scary collapse in the emergency room 3 years ago.  When he examined me recently he told me the pace maker had skipped a beat several times, but I had not noticed it.  I feel so much better now and hardly know the dang thing is ticking along every day!

Jane must be busy today with company (I think her sister has been visiting?).  I hope she's coming to the end of the paperwork and all is well.  There is always a lot of paperwork to do when your husband dies.  But I think Jane and Ray had it all figured out long ago.  Bob had his ready for me and Tim helped me with it--he said "I knew Dad would have had it fixed so that we (he and I) wouldn't have a lot to do at the end.  Now he's trying to get my estate in ship shape order so it won't be a problem when I kick up my heels!

I hope every Buddy is having a good Sunday.  We are having a cloudy day and I hope it brings us some rain later on today.

Have a nice day, every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Sharon...good to see your post and know you're making progress.

Mary...hurrah on the "emergency" pacemaker making it easier for you.  Ray had the same oxygen problem. He was a mouth breather and the cannula made his nose so dry it would bleed and clog up so he got no oxygen.  The mask was the only solution...and I had to order a larger size one online because the usual one was too small for his face and kept sliding up and hurting his nose.  Getting one with elastic around his ears and not over his head also worked better for him.

Darlene...yikes!  Good thing they were able to come up with some more meds to help your BP!

Alpiner...I see a dermatologist once a year to keep an eye out for any skin cancers, as I have very fair skin. I don't need a referral as we don't have either an HMO or PPO.  Maybe once you get on a dermatologist's patient list, you can see him every year for a check.

Sue...I've been alone now for over a week, but mornings and evenings are the hardest.  Tomorrow I see a CPA to try and get one of the investment's paperwork completed.  They want to charge extra for all sorts of things. They are the ONLY ones who are doing this, and I'm too stubborn to pay them ...$70.00 if I don't have the original certificate of shares we bought; $50 if I don't want to get a "medallion" signature guarantee...and the latest...$35-$85+ for someone on their support staff to "help" me fill in the paperwork.  I find this outrageous.  I want the paperwork finished and these shares sold ASAP.

Grrrr!

It's cooler now and getting overcast...suppose the rain is moving in.  We're to have thunderstorms tomorrow...and that's ok. ..we need it.

jane

Kate and I are sitting here waiting for me to be taken for the cardiac cath.  Kate got here about 5:30, and I've been awake since 4...it's 8:40am now.  Who knows when they'll come.

jane, I commented about your issue on the Other Medical Conditions board.  We're getting some rain here, too, at least here.  Hope at my place too.

Good morning buddies...A hot week coming up...I'm finally getting my strength back after my heart cath...Mary prayers for you with yours...they were supposed to do mine 1.day and I got bumped to next morning...Jane thinking of you trying to get necessary things done...my kids think I need a dog...for company and have something to nurture...Sue be careful with your walking...I will hopefully get back to mine in a couple days...Hi to Marlyin and Sharon and others reading...Have a great day

Hi Gals, just now getting in and finding out all the health events happening to everyone. I think we're all going downhill.

Mary, I'm saying a prayer for you for your heart cath this AM. I've only had one and that was in '97. I'm glad you were in the hospital when you needed the pacemaker and that you realized you needed an oxygen mask at night.  I also need one, but my machine is broken and I have to see a doctor before I get reconnected with the company.  My grandson-in-law words on perfecting new pacemakers, so maybe you are benefiting from his work.  Prayers and hugs for all your medical issues.

Darlene, so sorry your BP put you in the hospital.  Mine has bounced all over the place since I've been in rehab.l I guess it's from the pain.  So glad everything seems ok for you now.

Alpiner, definitely get the spot checked immediately. One of the men on our street died from a melanoma.  I get my skin checked every year like Jane.

Jane, I would be angry at the extra charges too. When I switched accounts from Mom to a different account, I didn't have to pay anything.  Good luck in getting it worked out.

Have a good day everyone.  Sharon

SCFSue

I was in here earlier, Buddies, but Tim arrived to look over my paper work and I'm still in my P.Js.  He just left with my check to the IRS (YUCK!) and they are going to Disney World sometime next week, so I probably won't see him until he returns from the trip.  So now I need to get out of my P. J's and into some clothing!

Sharon, it's good to see your post.  I hope you continue to improve and will soon be back to normal.  I'm praying for a complete recovery for you.

Mary, I hope your procedure today goes well and you'll soon be back to normal.  Keep us posted. Or if you're still exhausted from the procedure could one of your girls give us a heads up?

Jane, evenings will be tough for quite a while.  I was OK during the day when I could work in my yard and walk in my neighborhood, but being at home alone at night was the pits!  I'm praying that the paper work will soon be accomplished and your friends will see you often and keep you busy.  Thoughts and prayers continue for you from here in Auburn.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Mary...hope the heart cath is over and you're more comfortable.

Sue...Tim and Kris seem to be enjoying their travels.  Now's the time to go while they're healthy...as we ALL know.

Darlene...take the time you need to get back up to speed after your hospitalization.

Sharon...hope your PT and OT let you get back home soon.

I met with the CPA this morning and left all the papers with her.  She also acts as an Independent Agent and can handle all of our various investments, if I want her to do that.  It's a one place shopping sort of thing, I guess.  It's something I want to think about and talk over with my sister who understands these things better than I do.  She's also going to do a budget thing so I know how much money I have to work with now that I don't have Ray's pension and SS for our bills, etc. I've already got a pretty good idea on that, so will see how her analysis lines up with my own.  I left her with my spreadsheet of what I have and where.

I don't foresee any big expenses on the horizon.

Good Morning, Babes!
The promised rain for yesterday amounted only to a couple drops on the windshield and not the heavy rain forecast.

Not too much planned here today...perhaps clean out some more clothes of Ray's for donation.  It's a hard task, as many of you know, but I hope others can use what he had.

SCFSue

Good morning Jane and Every Buddy looking in.  I've been up for a while, but have finished breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen.  I have bridge today at the retirement center, so I need to get dressed and also need to call my neighbor Libba to see if she'll be able to pick me up.  We go there once a month, eat lunch, and play bridge afterward with some of the residents.

I hope Mary's surgery went well and we hear from her or the girls about the outcome.  I've had a pacemaker now for about 3 years and am feeling so much better since the surgery.

Jane, I hope you're coming to a conclusion of all the paperwork and can relax.  Also trying to tie up all the loose ends.  I remember how tough it was at the end when Bob was gone, but he'd made provisions in his will which helped with the paperwork and Tim helped me with that.  One thing Bob had done was to pay into Tri Care for Life, so I'm receiving a small pension from them and it is nice to get that check.

Sharon, it was good to see your post yesterday and I hope you'll continue to improve and soon be back to good health again.  Keep us posted.

I need to get dressed for my bridge game at the retirement center and hopefully the cleaning ladies will be here soon so that I can lock the door when Libba picks me up.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Hi Gals, it's been a busy morning. I was up and dressed by 7:00. Ate at 8:00, then off to therapy. It doesn't seem like they are working me very hard  in PT.  When I got back to my room and started to get my laptop out, a nurse came in and said that I could get my hair done then if I wanted! I had been on the list forever. She did a nice job cutting, washing and styling it! She was only going to charge me $15, but I gave her $20. I guess they aren't going to give me OT today.  I talked to the Social Services this AM and she said my date for discharge is 9/18. Why, I don't know. However my insurance will cover it all.

Hope you have good cards Sue.

Jane, I hope the one-shop gal is good and can get it done quickly for you.

Mary, we'll look for a post from you that you are doing well. Thoughts and hugs going out to you.

I think I have a UTI now.  Sent a sample off for culturing yesterday. Just what I need.   Sharon

Sharon...hurrah for getting your hair done and liking it, too! That always makes me feel better, I know. Maybe the PT people don't want to take a chance on injuring your back since you were just at that doc's.

Sue...I was simply overwhelmed by the amount of paperwork for the one investment.  I needed someone else to look it over and decide what of the 22 pages, I really needed to complete, etc.

YIKES:  Just saw the Farmers Almanac forecast for winter....https://www.mcall.com/news/weather/mc-nws-farmers-almanac-polar-coaster-prediction-20190827-oyqj53aq2rf6joexkloz5pkceu-story.html

"If weather prognosticators wanted to toot their own horns about accurate winter outlooks, they'd stop at "frigid temperatures and snow." Winter is winter, after all, and such weather is likely to arrive at some point. But the Farmers' Almanac often looks at the change in season with a sense of foreboding that suggests a Siberian-type chill will wrap the U.S. in its icy grip and never let go."    See more and map at link above.  BRRRRRR!!!!!

I took a small frozen lemon poppy seed loaf down to Kathy and Gary.  I'd made it for Ray, and I don't care for lemon, and they do, so they have it now.  I stayed for a cup of tea, and now back home.

I finished up what I think is wanted on my paperwork and I'll drop it off when I go to bridge tomorrow.

Time to go upstairs and bag up some more of Ray's things.

Good morning, Jane and Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I am still in my P.Js, and need to shower and dress for bridge at 12:30 at Terri's house.  Olyne will pick me up.  She comes by my house on her way to church and also to Terri's and it is a big help to me.  I am still not driving my car, but Tim has me keep it in my driveway and uses it to take me to medical appointments.  Be thankful that you all Can and Do drive yourselves!  As you probably remember I pay Tim's friend Eddie to take me to the library and Kroger on Friday.  I hope he's here early this Friday as Ethel's funeral is on Saturday and I need to have time to get ready for that.

Sharon, you had a busy morning yesterday.  I'm glad you were able to get a good haircut and know it makes you feel better.  I've been trimming my hair a bit in the back and sides and am so far avoiding a trip to Great Clips.  However, it won't be long until I'll go back to G.Clips for another haircut.  I like to keep it short and easily managed.

Jane, hurray for finishing the paperwork.  Were you able to straighten out the place which was giving you a hard time?  It seems to me that they should have bent over backwards to make the paperwork much easier.  Bob was sick so long but he was able to take care of paperwork and it sure made my life easier.  I know how hard all this has been for you--and hope you've put the paperwork behind you now.

Mary, I'm hoping your surgery went well.  I know you'll feel much better following it and you'll be surprised at how soon you'll be fully recovered.  Hugs and best wishes for a complete and quick recovery.  Keep us posted.  If you're not up to posting, perhaps one of your girls can give us a quick update.

I had a nice lunch (which was much better than their usual) yesterday.  After lunch we played bridge for several hours and I had some good and not so good cards, so didn't win any money, but that was to be expected!)  I'm playing again this afternoon at Terri's and I'm sure we'll discuss our plans to attend Ethel's funeral on Saturday.  Our bridge club is sending a large floral arrangement to the church for the funeral.  Ethel had been depressed after her husband's death about 4 years ago--she stopped attending church, playing bridge with us, and became fairly reclusive--didn't answer her phone, etc.  It's been very hard for her children.  We've missed her and our only contact has been through her cleaning lady who also cleans for Bonney.

I need to get outside for my walk before it is unbearably hot this morning and get home in time to shower and dress for bridge.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

Sue...paperwork is getting there.  Everything was in place...just couldn't do the switching to "surviving spouse" before he passed away, of course. CPA is also looking at the things in my name to tell me how much income I can have, if needed.

It's a cool, fall-like day here.  58 when I walked this morning, and now getting ready to go to bridge.  Then later this afternoon, going to Dbq where a friend is hosting a potential Presidential candidate's support staff for a "meet and greet"

SharonE

Hi Gals, I forgot to check and see if I already mentioned it, but they have extended my discharge date to a possible 9/18.  Not happy with that, but they want to be sure my balance is stable first. I can't argue with that.  My UTI test just came back and sure enough, it was positive, so I am now on Macrobid for 3 days.

I had both PT and OT this morning, so haven't had time for much else.  John comes at 4 PM most days and has been having my dinner taken to the dining room, so he can keep me company and I can get out of the room. He also takes me out on the front porch if it's not too hot to sit and enjoy some fresh air.

I hope everyone's bridge turned out good. I'm missing mine, of course.

Mary, hoping to hear about your procedure soon. Thoughts ad hugs going out.

Jane, it would be nice if some of your friends could help you box up Ray's clothes, but maybe it is too emotional for you to have anyone there.  I know it's a hard time for you. My mother came up from FL to my house for 6 weeks to stay and many of the papers, etc, she needed to fill out could be done there. Then she went to my brother's for 2 weeks, so by the time she got home, it was easier for her.

Hi to Marilyn, Alpiner, Joy, Darlene, Jeanne, and anyone else popping in.  Sharon

Good almost  late morning every Buddy. I went back to the podiatrist yesterday for more shots in the bottom of my heel. I have another appointment on the 24th of Sept unless I need to go sooner. If there shots  don't stop the pain I will opt for surgery which is probably a better idea than getting the shots. I am not supposed to be walking on the asphalt but one either grass or sand/dirt. It looks like I will be going to the beach and the hiking trails to walk the dog.

Keith is doing so much better than expected. His friend took him to the Blackberry festival to walk around on Sunday while I went to church. They will be going to the local high school football games again this year. That is the same high school they both attended and just had the reunion. He is the same person we go to friday night dinner with every week.

I hope Sherry and Mary are both doing well today. Darlene glad to hear your procedure was a success. Sue, Jeanne, Alpiner. and Bubble  hello to you all.
