alpiner- I don't usually post in this discussion, but I saw your message this morning, and thought I would respond.  I had the stereotatic biopsy, about five years ago, and it was a total disaster for me.  It's a long story that I won't go into here, but they were unable to get a good biopsy the first time, and had to do it again a week later.  It turned out to be benign, which I was thankful for!

This January, I had another spot that didn't look good on the mammo, so I had the ultrasound.  The radiologist talked to me, and said she had read my previous problem with the stereotatic biopsy, so she wanted to do this one right there in the ultrasound room.  They numbed the area, and did the needle biopsy.  Fortunately for me, this one was also benign.

Maybe you can ask them to try the needle biopsy like I had, in the ultrasound room. If that doesn't work, or shows malignant cells, you can then see the surgeon for a full biopsy.

I had a needle biopsy last July on another spot .  The attending doctor is waiting for approval from my doctor to also do a needle biopsy on this one .

MaryPage

Marilyne, how kind of you to explain your procedure.  We will all be together in our hope that Alpiner's new tumor, if it proves to be one, will turn out to be totally benign.

Marilyn, that IS some house!  Very attractive.  It is always an amazement to me how much house you can get for the money in most parts of this country.  Everything is very expensive here, and that house would be priced at over a million, easily.

Mary, are you coming up here?  Or are Alison & Joe going down there?

I went to my dermatologist this morning, then took a swing by one of the best private groceries in town: Graul's.  Got some lovely barbecue and cole slaw and an adorable and forbidden chocolate eclair, which I devoured immediately upon arriving home.  I call that my award for bravery out in the field.  The field of slight wounds from having the doctor zap two spots of relentless eczema on my face.

maryz

MaryPage, they're coming to our week at the beach.  You can be assured that I wouldn't come to Annapolis without letting you know!  Sorry about the dermatologist, but at least you got an éclair out of it.

jane

Marilyn....wow!

Alpiner...I hope you hear soon, and can stand the wait.  As Mary said, I find that the hardest part, too.

Jeanne...I've never tried that spray.  My allergist said Allegra and then Flonase and a prescription spray.  They're working well for me and don't make me sleepy during the day.

Marilyne....thanks for sharing your experience.

Mary...enjoy the beach...back to Fort Morgan?

Hi Sharon and Mary Page and Darlene.

More storms coming tonight and so I may skip Knit Night.  We'll see how things are about 6:30.

jane

maryz

jane - yep, back to Fort Morgan - the same house we've rented for about 10-12 years.  We're going to be putting some of John's ashes in the ocean there.

Bridge got cancelled tonight - so at least I didn't get any bad cards.  LOL

Reading your post about your John ashes....Mary's.Im thinking cremation for me..not sure if all my kids would approve..pretty sure 3 would...have a good eve all..Darlene

maryz

Darlene, John and I had decided on that years ago - so a no-brainer when the time came.  It's so important to talk about with family and have your wishes known.  Of course, you won't be there, so they can do whatever they like - LOL - but you can always tell them you'll come back to haunt them.  8^)

SharonE

Alpiner, good wishes and prayers going out for you for a good outcome.  I had the usual mammogram, ultra sound, and needle biopsy. They found a couple cells in one of the sentinel nodes so I had to have chemo and radiation. Not fun, but doable.

Marilyn, that house reminds me some of Melanie's house. It is also quite large and expensive. If you haven't been to Vancouver before, you'll love it!  It is a beautiful city with lots of parks, etc. If you have time you should also go over to Victoria Island which is supposed to have the absolute most beautiful gardens anywhere.  Unfortunately, we didn't have time but I've always regretted it.

Jane, I hope all the dr's appts go well. I agree that they aren't much fun. Hope you had a good lunch with your friends.  We've had a few sprinkles this morning, but not much.  I was feeling fairly good when I went to the grocery yesterday, but was hurting big time by the time I got home.  We ate "summertime" yesterday. I grilled hamburgers with fresh tomatoes on them for lunch and then had salmon, rice, and corn on the cob last night.  So good.

Mary, sorry you were up in the middle of the night but that you got back to sleep later was good. I've had about 3 good nights' sleep in a row.  :)  Have a wonderful time at the beach.

MP, I sometimes reward myself with a pastry after grocery shopping. I figure we earned it.

Cremation is our choice too.  Burial uses up too much land and one day they will dig up all the cemeteries anyway.

I'm going to get a haircut and highlights this afternoon. The latter is long overdue.

I hope you all can find some place cool to hibernate today. Heat index here is to be 104 or so. Have a good day. Sharon

Sharon, I thought Marilyn was talking about Vancouver, WA, right here in the States.
When Bob & I went to Vancouver, Canada, we absolutely adored that city.  Then we were talked into taking the ferry to Victoria, mainly to see the Butchart Gardens, and we were sorry we did.  We wound up wishing we had stayed in and seen more of Vancouver itself.
Those gardens are extremely hilly, and Bob was 80 and unwell.  He simply could not navigate the hills.  So we got a wheel chair and I had to push it.  Ruined the day and the gardens for me.  The gardens were perfectly lovely, but we have even better ones here in the States.  Longwood in Pennsylvania, for one!  As for the ferry ride, it was much too long and boring a trip.  I am one who loves being out on the water, and also appreciates nature in the raw;  but that trip was just flat out long and boring.  The excursion took up a Whole Day!  Victoria itself was not much;  as I say, Vancouver had Much More to offer!  It is an exciting, vibrant city.
Yes, as we've said before, cremation makes the most sense to my family.  I have donated my body to a medical school.  When they have finished with it, they will cremate my remains and give them to Debi.  She will mix them with the portion of Bob's I have held on to and take them into the mountain woods of Virginia or West Virginia and leave them there.  I am one who does not believe in an after life, but I do love the thought of our mixed molecules lying together under the trees of a mountain forest in my beloved Blue Ridge.

maryz

Marilyn did indicate Vancouver, Washington, I think.  MaryPage, we loved Victoria, but I understand if it wasn't something you had planned.  We loved Butchart Gardens, but it can be a challenge (it was built into a quarry, so is basically in an enormous hole, and down the sides.)  We were lucky enough to have been there twice, and just loved it.  Vancouver, British Columbia, is a great city, too, though.  I generally don't like big cities, but this is a good one.

Just swimming this morning.  I had thought I'd get to duplicate, but my partner had to beg off, so that's a no-go.  I guess I'll spend the afternoon getting organized to leave early tomorrow.  Margaret will come over here tonight and spend the night with me, so we can leave by about 8.

The awful events of the last couple of days defy description. Why can't we just tolerate each other and enjoy our differences.

Marilyn

I was  talking about Vancouver Washington, I have been to Vancouver canada when I was a teen with my parents. I remember the beauty I saw in Stanley Park and the statue sof the the lions. That was back in  1955.

I made bread again this morning and took f\reckles for her morning walk about 8:30, I will be taking her for another soon.

We are going out to our usual Friday night dinner at the Mexican restaurant in the mall. we didn't go last week because i worked the wine walk with Freckles and 3 other Furry Friend dogs.

SharonE

Oops! I didn't know there was a Vancouver, Washington.  Oh well. I still liked the other one.

MP, sorry your trip to Victoria wasn't the pleasure you had planned. I can see why if it was hilly & your husband unable to navigate them.  I'm sorry you don't believe in an after life, but it is nice that your ashes and your husband's will be together in a natural setting.  That is what we have planned also.

Mary, bummer on your bridge cancelled 2 days in a row!  Eat lots of shrimp and crabs for me!

I'm back from the beauty shop. She did a good job on my highlights and trim, so I'm happy.  I really am not doing it for any special occasion, just for me.  Sharon

I'm upset , I waited most of yesterday for my doctor's office to call me & they didn't . So I called again this morning . I was told to go ahead & make the appt . for another ultra sound & biopsy (couldn't have it on the last visit) .  There was a mixup & the approval I got was for the sterotactic biopsy I was to have on Tuesday .  The imaging center was going to call my doctor & straighten things out & call me back .  I'm waiting , waiting , waiting .  I'm home bound & don't like it !

Marilyn

Sherry Vacnouver Washington is right across the river from Portland Oregon.

maryz

Alpiner - so sorry about the waiting and the mix-up.  I know how frustrating it is.  Hugs!

Retreating from the news. What a rough and sad few days.

It is hot and humid here in NE OH. I stayed in our ac and away from it all. My body is giving me symptoms of another infection.  ???   Don't want an antibiotic because of the side effects they generate.

SharonE

Hi Gals. Another hot & humid day here but at least we got about a half inch of rain last night. Lots of severe storms in Charlotte that had trees toppling and electricity down. No problems here though.

I was awake until 4 AM again last night but slept in until 10:00. I talked to Melanie this morning to wish her a belated happy birthday since they were out last evening and I couldn't reach her. I've also read my SS lesson and polished my nails, but that's it.

Alpiner, I'm sorry for the mixup on your tests, etc.  Hang in there. Health care seems to require lots of patience these days.

Ginny, I hope you aren't sick again.  Take lots of Vit C and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and maybe you will ward it off.

The news has indeed been awful the past week. I don't understand why everyone is so hateful and ready to be violent, whether police or others.  Whatever happened to loving your fellow man?!!!

Mary, I hope you have a safe trip to the beach and lots of fun.

Have a great weekend everyone.  Sharon

jane

Nothing very exciting here...weather is bearable until Monday when we go back to 90s.

I did walk this morning and then came home to clean and do laundry and all those charming tasks. ::)

Have a good Sat. evening!

jane

Marilyn

Not much going on here eithwer. Just a lazy day after the morning Walmart run.

maryz

We made it!  The Gulf is still here.  Sue says the water is cold, but the breeze is wonderful.  We had shrimp and blue crabs for dinner.  Just a couple more yet to come.  Now to relax.

MaryPage

Mary, please give my warm regards to Margaret and Sue and Alison and Joe.  I am dying to ask Sue if she buys or, if she has no granddaughters, if she WILL buy Charleston bonnets for her granddaughters.  I bought one for my first granddaughter, and I just love them.  Also wanted to ask her if she thinks Middleton is the loveliest plantation.  I thought so, and Mama and I used to love to walk through the beautiful woodland trails full of gorgeous azaleas there.  Tell Allison & Joe there is a restaurant called Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant they will love if they haven't already been there.  It is in Annapolis Towne Centre in Parole.

I"ve been having free floating anxiety.  :-[   Headaches seem to have a part in them. Woke up Ray last night to just hold me. It helped some. Also got something to eat. It soothed me a bit and I fell asleep. My left foot is swollen and hurts some. Sure feels like I'm falling apart.  :dontknow: Could someone e-mail me Sue's address?

Maryz : Have fun on your vacation.

Love and hugs to all the Buddies.

jane

Yes, GinnyAnn, I'll email you Sue's address.

Rain and t'storms here this morning.

SharonE

Sounds like none of us are doing a whole lot--except for lucky Mary at the beach eating shrimp and crabs.   :'( :'(  Seriously, have a wonderful time.

Ginny Ann, I wish you were close so that I could give you a real hug, but since we're not, I'm sending you a big cyber one.  {{{{{Ginny}}}}}.  Prayers going out for your healing.

John has my cold from last week so he didn't go to church today but I did. (& SS).  The church had a big fundraising barbecue last night with blue grass singers, etc.  They always have left over barbecue that they put in 1 or 2 lb containers to sell to those who want them.  I brought home a 2 lb one. It is so good.  They roast it right at the church.  So guess what I had for lunch! :)

Nothing seems to be on TV these days, so I've been reading up a storm. Nothing very deep though.  Good wishes to all.  Sharon

jane

Sharon....you're sure right about nothing on TV.  I did watch the Euro finals of soccer and Portugal beat France. That was a shocker, apparently, but I love it when the underdog wins.  [And, I can't believe where they find all those good looking fellows!]  Now, there's nothing for me to watch until football starts again, so lots of reading here, too.

Rains just passed through, but I think we're finished now.  Now the heat and humidity come in for tomorrow.
Guess it really is July in Iowa.

jane

Marilyn

It rained here last night and most of this morning,, We went to church this morning had to stop at the store on the way home for Tartar Sauce and lemon for the Salmon I am fixing for supper. Our neighbor gave us a huge  piece of Salmon and I just cut off the tail section for tonight. I had baked some Yam slices with our chicken last night that didn't get done enough so I will  bake them some more to have with the Salmon. (the yams that is we ate the chicken)LOL  ;D

Freckles goes back to the vet for a recheck tomorrow afternoon re her allergy shot. Well it lasts for two weeks this time  but now she is itching again. She is allergic to grass and I also fee her a grain free diet. I  goofed and gave her a regular dog biscuit the other day.so that could be another reason she is itching.

The vet explained to me the   body sections that  tell what the allergy is, scratching from the neck back is a contact allergy, the head, face and neck is food, licking the paws is an inhaled allergy.

GinnyAnn

Went out for a little shopping at Target and then tea at Eat N. Park with my friend Shirley. We didn't get to talk much at the restaurant because she had to get home to get ready for work on Monday. She is a nurse anesthetist.

My feet and legs are still swollen. Shirley thinks it could be my heart.   :(  I am going to discontinue eating ice cream for awhile.

Marilyn ~ Very interesting about what the vet said about body sections of dogs telling what type of allergy is bothering the dog.

SharonE

Well, I called Mayo's this AM. Jacksonville, FL has no appts available. Rochester emailed me a questionnaire which will be reviewed by the Internal Med dept and then they will see whether they can offer me an appt. I should hear something within 3 days.

Ginny Ann, I agree with your friend. Swelling feet, etc is usually heart or kidney related.  Drink lots of water, cut back on salt, and try to keep your feet elevated as much as possible.  Sorry you couldn't spend as much time with your friend as you would have liked.  Hang in there.  See your doctor if the swelling persists.

Marilyn, I too was interested in the dog allergy thing.  Bunny licks her front paws a lot, but I can't imagine what kind of inhaled allergen she's around unless it is mold outdoors. Hope Freckles gets over her allergy.

Jane, I'm starting the 5th book of the 8 I got last week!  Had to laugh at your comment on the good looking soccer players.  They really generally are.  I was sorry France lost, but maybe it was time Portugal got a win.

Hi to everyone.  Sharon

alpiner1

I finally have an appt. for another ultra sound biopsy !   They tried last week to find the spot , the attending doctor wants to do the procedure herself !   If this doesn't work I will need to see a surgeon   After 2 trips to the imaging center & then was told to call my doctor to okay another order , the office is closed on Wednesday so I called Thursday & got an answering machine . I was told to leave a message & my phone number & they would call me back the same day or the next working day .  No call . I called this morning & got the machine again ! I hung up & called the imaging center , the doctor approved the order . I set up an appt. for July 26 .   Now just need to relax & do some thing fun .

MaryPage

Marilyn, my youngest daughter, Pam, is a vet in Arizona.  She practiced here in Annapolis for over 10 years, but then bought a horse & cattle ranch out in Bisbee.  She has a small animal practice in Sierra Vista, but looks after her own and some of her neighbors horses and cattle.  She only has 5 horses and 5 head, plus 3 dogs and 3 cats.  Or is it 5 cats?  I forget!
Anyway, I was fascinated with what your vet said, so I emailed her exactly what he said, and she just saw it and emailed me back:
"Ha!  I wish it were that easy!!!!  A kernel of truth, but tremendously oversimplified."
Shoot!  Well, I must say, I am not all that surprised.  Nothing in life is quite that simple!  But the other 4 of my girls have dogs as well, and they were hoping, too.  I included all of them in my email to Pam.
It has been a beautiful day with moderate temps here.  Tomorrow 3 of my girls are coming to fetch me and we are going to play at being The Ladies Who Lunch.  We'll go to a restaurant up at Annapolis Towne Centre.  Fun!
