Hot and humid here, too, and storms overnight....sort of typical for Fair Week in rural Iowa.

I did get a walk in before it got too hot, but I've been on the computer a lot...and my neck and shoulders are telling me I've been on way too much.

Tomorrow is back to surgeon for us...and then I hope to get a few hours of bridge in.

Take care and stay safe!

jane

Cottoncandy

Where is everyone today....I haven't walked the last 2 days. Mabey tomorrow...just too hot..I lost a lb anyway..now at 129.  I would like to  weigh a little more but just  don't gain even tho I don't miss a meal.  Sad about the shooting in my home state...just plain evil...Hi to everyone... Darlene

jane

Stay safe there, Darlene.  All of this violence...I hate listening to the news anymore.

jane

SharonE

Darlene, I would be glad to share a few lbs with you!  Glad you're able to get out and walk some despite the heat.  We all are horrified by the shootings in Dallas, as well as in Baton Rouge & Minneapolis.  When did we become a society that reaches for a gun to settle everything?!  so sad for all those families and friends.

Jane glad you got out some too. My only excursion out was to UPS to get some things notarized and sent out. Have just been doing piddling stuff, mostly on the computer.  My back & shoulders hurt too.

I hope the storms at the beach haven't taken away Mary's fun. Hope it clears  off tomorrow.

Interesting that the vets aren't totally in sync on the allergies. I had one dog that got an allergy in the fall and had to have shots for it, but that was years ago.

We had a heck of a thunderstorm last evening with high winds and lots of lightening, but no problems here. We got about an inch of rain which was greatly appreciated.  Charlotte has had so many trees down and so many people out of power. I really feel for them in these high temps. It will probably be a couple more days before all of them get power.

Nothing else of interest here.  Sharon

JeanneP

Not to bad here in Illinois. Was listening to the President on TV. Then fell asleep.  There was a police women to his right as he was talk and she kept nodding of. Think she made me sleep.
When I first turned it on everyone was laughing. Didnt know why. The Chief of Police talking. Obama very good at making those talks.

Seems like our County fair is getting close also. Last 3 years it has rained for 3 days.
They were saying that would not be a show of animals and such this year only on the day prior to the fair starting. Don't know if it is the State Fair or County.  I stopped going to both. Seems to be nothing but Food Trucks and Tee Shirts at our County one. Not like fairs use to be. The best for cooking, sewing. animals with the kids. Horse shows.  The big draw seems to be Drag Racing now.

Hi folks - just checking in.  We had a lovely sunrise, and then a line of heavy thunderstorms roared through.  Lots of thunder and lightning and rain, flickering power (but no outage).  And then it turned off into a beautiful afternoon.  So life at the beach goes on.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

My Comcast land line telephone has been out since before noon yesterday, and apparently it is a nationwide problem.  I have been forced to pry my pesky little cell phone the kids insisted on my having for emergencies (and it is on Steve's "family plan") out of my handbag and turn it on and try to remember to carry it around with me.  I can't get the danged thing to ring loud enough for me to hear it unless it is right next to me.  If I put it in the pocket of my slacks, I can feel it pulsate if it rings, but that is no help when I have my pocketless nightie on, which I do.  Takes me a while to get going in the mornings!  Gosh but I hate being deaf.  It is lovely in some ways;  that is to say, I enjoy the quiet.  Anyway, my children all know about this problem, and will email me to call THEM if anything comes up.
Well, I'd better get chugging.  Time for oatmeal and coffee.  Have a good day!

SharonE

Jeanne, I stopped going to the fairs years ago. Seemed to be more for the kids. Always terribly hot and humid.

Mary, so glad the sun came out and you had a nice afternoon.  Enjoy.

MP, most cell phones have a volume control on the outside edge of the cell phone for listening to whoever calls.  If you go into your menu settings, there should be a place that you can raise the ring volume to the maximum.  I keep my cell phone in my purse in case I need it, but like you, I don't keep it on or use it much.

Ms Frances has a problem with a tooth on her bridgework, so I've gotten her a dental appt and will take her this afternoon.  Her dentist retired several years ago and she hasn't been since  :o

My cleaning girl is here and about to finish up.  Have a good day & stay cool!  Sharon

MaryPage

Oh, Sharon!  Thanks, but I know about that volume control, and I have it set to the maximum.  I am really, really quite deaf!

My land phone has just come back into service.  I have a total of 4 phones on that system, with the ringers turned all the way up.  So I usually hear it, unless I am in the shower.  I can remember some years back that I could hear it in there, but no more!

I have one in the kitchen, one in the living room, the main phone in my bedroom, and one in the den (Chip's room, now.)  Comcast was out here for just about 24 hours.

SharonE

Well, Mary Page, I'm glad they got your land lines fixed.  It's awful to feel disconnected from our friends and family.

I am home from taking Ms Frances to the dentist.  She did pretty well getting in and out of the car and in and out of the office.  I am always so afraid she will fall. She has a quad cane, but...  Anyway, they are going to be able to fix her bridge, but not till Aug. 11.  Hotter than heck out there.  Sharon

jane

We had a good turnout for bridge today...12!

The new Chef at the golf club has decided to change the menu...and I think it's going to be a disaster!  Prices raised...everything a la carte  and he has only 4 sandwichs on the lunch menu...cheeseburger,  tenderloin, pulled pork on coleslaw and chicken salad.  They used to have a taco salad, a rachel and a reuben, etc.  One salad...a southwestern...he has at $12.00 without meat and an additional $5.00 for meat.

The manager asked how my lunch was and I said "disappointing" and she asked why.  I explained about the limited choices and she said she'd tell "Chef."   It'll be interesting to see how long he lasts.

It's now thundering and lightning, so I was glad to get home and the cars in the garage.

Jane, I know what a Reuben is, and my late husband loved them to death and would have thrown a conniption fit if our favorite restaurant had stopped offering them, but what is a Rachel?
Becky and I went out to dinner together early last Friday, I think it was, and we went to Sam's so I could have their fish taco, and turned out they only serve it at lunchtime and would not accommodate us for dinnertime, even though they do fish & chips as a dinner choice, so we up and left and went to Main Ingredient instead, even though we had to wait quite a while for a booth.  I had a most delicious shrimp curry there, instead.  Jane, I fully understand your frustration.
I hope a whole bunch of you girls got to watch the wonderful NINE MONTHS THAT MADE YOU on PBS the last 3 Wednesday nights.  Even if you are a doctor or a nurse, you would see and learn new things from that marvelous three-part documentary.  Do catch it in repeats if you missed it.  I enjoyed so much seeing the Carles quadruplets from Great Britain.  They are identical!  From ONE EGG!  Extremely rare, and loads of fun to see.
Beautiful day breaking here on the Chesapeake.  I'm planning to enjoy it quietly.  Life is good!  Love to each of my sister survivors of breast cancer!

jane

A Rachel here was sliced turkey on rye with coleslaw on the sandwich as well.  We've been told that's a "Southern" thing...coleslaw on the sandwich.  They also did that with the pulled pork sandwich yesterday.

It's heating up here today. I tried to walk a bit ago and it was just too hot in the nonshade area.  So, I quit and came home to cool off.  Ray can walk a bit more now, so maybe we'll go out to WalMart and he can walk around there a bit in the cool.  Tomorrow we'll have to start earlier.

Well, I am a Southerner born and bred, and best of all, a Virginian, at that!  And I buy pulled pork and make my own barbecue sandwiches.  With cole slaw, of course.  Graul's cole slaw, when I can get it.  Ebb Tide Inn's is second best, and Adam's Rib comes in third.  Personally, I use just as much cole slaw as pulled pork.  We have a place called Pit Boys that serves up the best barbecue sandwiches in town.
Thanks for explaining what a Rachel is.

jane

Good to know we're eating "Southern" here in Iowa!! :smitten:

jane

Almost afternoon greetings!

It's nice and cool here this morning, so Ray and I got a walk in...a short one for him since the surgeon said he could walk a little more this week...but not to overdo.  I did my own walk after he turned around and went back home.

The landscapers are here to tackle the south side of the house.  It's nice and cool for their digging out of all the overgrown stuff that's there now.

Next week is to be VERY hot, so they wanted to get this dug out now...and be out of the hot sun when they replant next week some new stuff.

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, I've just spent an hour on the phone with Lori so haven't gotten anything much done today. Oh well, I really hadn't planned to do a lot anyway.

Jane, glad it's cooling down some for you & your landscapers.  We're to drop to 89 tomorrow! Big cool down!  It was 97 yesterday. I hope your chef listens to what you all have to say.  I must say that I prefer my coleslaw on the side. Some things you just don't change when you move. I had forgotten what a Rachel was.

Horrified again by the tragic events in Nice!  When is it all going to end? My heart bleeds for the parents especially who had taken their children to see the fireworks.  So sad.

Ginny Ann, I hope you are feeling better. I imagine you are planning to stay home next week when the convention comes to town.  We sure did when the Democratic Convention was in Charlotte 4 yrs ago.  So many people and such high security, it is better to avoid it all.

Hi to everyone. HOpe all is going well with you.  Sharon

joyous

No doubt ya'll have heard in the news or newspaper about
the killing of a black youth by one of our police and the
protesters following that.  It is scary to say the least.
JOY

JeanneP

Joy. I am afraid this is now going to be going on for awhile.  Now I read that some people will not sit within sights of a policeman in uniform if they are in a restaurant. I suppose the think if someone shoots at them they will be to close. Same with walking on the street. Don't get close to a squad car.  What a mess the country in right now.  Lot of fear going around.
JeanneP

SharonE

Joy, I'm sure we all have read about the BR tragedy and on-going protest.  It must be hard to be there and see and read about it every day.  Same thing in Minneapolis.  From the videos, it looked like the cops were the villains, but who knows.  There are, as we know, bad policemen, but the majority are good, hard-working men trying to protect their community.

Jeanne, I hadn't heard about that kind of thing, not sitting near or going near a policeman. That's awful.

What a troubled world we live in. In addition to Minn, BR, & Dallas, we now have Nice and Turkey. I guess all we can do is pray to God to show us the way to straighten out the mess we've gotten ourselves into.

We got another inch of rain last night.  Yea!  Sharon

jane

The entire world seems to be in turmoil.  I'm so glad I canceled our NYC trip over the 9/11 weekend. Back in April, my "gut" feeling said "not the time to go."  Now with Ray's leg and the graft, I'm glad we opted out early enough to get 80% of our deposit back.

Beautiful morning here.  Ray and I walked a bit....he turned and came back home, but a block further than yesterday, and I went on to the bank and the Farmers' Market.  I bought some fresh green beans, some banana bread, and some local honey straws.  I'd run out, but now have a new container from Gary from the bees in the lot between us...that's about as "local" as one can get!!

It's beginning to heat up...and lots more of that to come.

Take care and have a SAFE weekend!

jane

Cottoncandy

Jane. Probably the right choice to cancel...never know what area or group of people will be the next target..scary times..I think Gods coming soon...I need to change my password on computer...when I do that..will I also have to change it on my IPad?  Darlene

SharonE

I think you were probably right to cancel, Jane, especially with Ray's leg.  I'm concerned and trying to keep my mouth shut, but Melanie & Sangmin are going to Italy in October and Brian and family are going to Germany and maybe France in August!  Then Lori is going to the US Tennis Open in NY. But I can't wrap them in bubble wrap, much as I would like to. I just have to leave it up to God to protect them.

Darlene, I don't think so on the password, but I will leave it to Jane to tell you for sure.

We're home.  It was a great week.  We didn't have as many people as in years past, but a good group nonetheless.  We all shared in putting some of John's ashes in the Gulf in an area he loved.  We even got a send-off this morning with a rainbow.  Margaret and I were thelast to leave.  The trip home was different - mostly  not on the interstate.  There were lots of problems with wrecks and torrential rain pockets.  It was a challenge for Margaret (who did most of the driving), but our GPS gal got us through.  Now to get back to what we laughingly call "normal".

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Hi everyone I didn't post yesterday because I had nothing to say. that happens to all of us at times I think. Toady Our town North Bend is celebrating 113 years. There were a lost of tnhings going on. Freckles and I walked with other of the furry friends in the parade. Keith and his friend went to the car show before watching the parade. There is a picture of Freckles and I on Facebook.

We had a good hard rain last night, and are experiencing one of those delicious mornings.  But it also has all the signs of getting quite hot and humid as the hour hands move on all the clocks.  The early Sunday morning bay is splendidly empty of boats, but I expect it will be full of white sails by early afternoon.

My granddaughter Melissa turns 37 today.  Impossible!  TRUE!  I cannot figure why I am still lurking around, what with all these generations pouring into the family tree charts!  That whole branch of the family went to an Orioles game last weekend: Anne & Greg, Paige & Alex with Ezra (5), Melissa & Adam with Bella (13), Will (7) and Miles (1).  Will wanted to run the bases with about a bazillion thousand other children, one at a time, afterwards.  Ezra was worn out, so Paige and Alex went home (they live in Baltimore, so home was not far away), while the others stayed and waited in line with Willem.  Oh, my gosh, but he was excited!.  He took off in a rush from first base, and then, half way to second, ran back and tapped first, just to make sure.  When he finally got to home plate, he stepped on it grinning like a banshee, then ran back a little ways and, in running towards home this time he THREW himself on the ground and SLID in!  All this was reported to Debi and Becky and me by his doting grandmother, my daughter Anne, at lunch last week.

Have a great day.  I'm planning on a quiet one.

jane

Darlene....which password are you speaking of?  If your password to open your computer, then no on your Ipad since you can't connect to your computer from your Ipad/tablet.

If you mean to a website, like here or Facebook, etc. then yes, when you change the password here or at Facebook or wherever, you'll need to put that new password in when you go to login at whatever site you changed it.  Your computer or tablet saves a cookie with that password and compares it with the site's password you entered there.  They have to match.  So, change it at the site, then login on your devices with your username and the new password.

If you clear off your passwords for some reason....maybe doing a malware scan of your co puter, etc., you will have to re-enter your isername and current password at all the sites that you cleared the cookie for.  (That's a long, complicated sentence!  Sorry.;))

jane

Strong thunderstorm and lightning here overnight, too, and more predicted starting this afternoon.  It's to heat up too.  Guess I'd better get with it and get my walk in.

Quiet day here...going to the farm outside town for sweet corn..first of the season here...and picked fresh everyday!  Yummy.

JeanneP

Was getting ready to leave but then it turned dark and within 15 min. Such a storm. Still going and so I guess I will stay home.
Time to put Don's Sunday concert on. I thought I would have done my running and been back by now.
Sure put the temps down. LIke sleeping better without the A/C on.
JeanneP

jane

I was so sad to see the violence in Baton Rouge.  I swear people have gone NUTS!
Stay safe, Joy!!

Just a bit of rain so far here, but it's looking dark to the west.  It's going to be a wet afternoon.

Keep an eye on the weather,  Jeanne!
