We are going to sign up to get the shot after I'm finished with my drs. appts.   Have one this morning with the oncologist & & a dermatologist appt. next week ..

Cottoncandy

Good morning Buddies...well yalls cold weather is in my part of Texas...now thru Monday.. some single digit temps plus wintry mix..at least it usually don't stay long...Jane sorry there's no mandates from your gov..Sharon I like your idea of recipe books..I have sooo many recipes in and out of books...just me...I don't cook much any more..Mary glad you are down for your second shot I haven't had my first yet...but don't mind the wait..I'm glad you like it where you are..that's a plus..Jeanne good to see you post..how is your BP now....are u on the same med? Hope you got your pipes fixed..I will be dripping water the next few days..Marlyin good luck on getting your vaccine..my grandson got the vaccine..then 2 weeks later got covid...Hi to Alpiner and others reading.......have great day

jane

Greetings from the Frozen Northern Tundra!   :2funny:

All kinds of warnings out about frostbite with this cold and windchill.  I went out three times to take my garbage and recycle containers to the end of my driveway...and I had to tug on them. They were frozen to the ground.
I later when out to put some more in the recycle bin when I emptied my shredder.

I also took some seed out for those beautiful cardinals.  They look so pretty against all the snow.

Darlene...sorry grandson got covid.  Hope he's ok.

Marilyn...I hear you.  Same story here...so few vaccines available here, too.  Our Idiot Governor won't talk to local (Iowa) reporters about her no restrictions, but appeared on FOX News with Hannity with her remarks.  Maybe he'll vote for her the next time....OH...OOPS...he doesn't live in Iowa...and probably doesn't even know where it is.   :tickedoff:

Alpiner....glad you can get an appt for the vaccine.

Absolutely nothing new here...except MORE snow and even COLDER coming.  Yipee!  :uglystupid2:

Stay warm, safe and healthy!

jane

SharonE

I'm having a slug day. Nothing scheduled. It's 5o's and threatening rain at the moment. very dark. Oh, I see some has started now.

The deer visited us a couple nights ago and trimmed off all our pansies and liriope (decorative grass)!  Grr!  I love them out back but not in front!  The maintenance men put out a small live trap on the half wall of the carport and caught a squirrel and now don't know what to do with it. If it's still there at dinner, John's going to let it go. We don't want it to starve to death. I think they set it for mice, although I haven't seen any.

Jane and Marilyn, I'm sorry you're having such a time getting the vaccine. Maybe next week will be the charm.

Darlene, stay warm!
Hi to all. Bunny's in my lap. Gotta go. (There's thunder!) Sharon

Today's appt. with oncologist  was a repeat of the day I went for lab work .  Exhausting !  I was told to go to another location further away .  When I arrived I was told the dr. is at the old address even though I had a phone call that my appt. would be at a new location . They  called ahead & told the other office I was on my way .  They were over booked & wanted to change the time until later today . I couldn't do that as hubby has a Zoom meeting at that time .  Hubby goes with me because  its about a 50 mile drive .  Finally the dr. squeezed me in .   I told her I was happy she worked me in . She said she wouldn't have me come back at a later time , she wouldn't do that to me .  I got good news on the lab results & won't have another appt. for 6 months !

maryz

I got my second shot this morning and, so far, no reactions. We'll see how it goes overnight and in the morning.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Alpiner...you have had a terrible time getting the medical care you need when you're scheduled for it.  It sounds like the kind of thing I encountered in S. Texas.  I'm so glad things are better organized here in Iowa, because my patience is pretty nonexistent these days.

Mary...hurrah on the second shot.

Sharon...the deer eat a lot of our plants in the summertime...even the hostas and whatever I have in pots.

It's still below zero and to be worse by Sunday.  Maybe warm up some next week.

Stay warm and safe,

jane

alpiner1

We both have our appt. to get the vaccine on Sunday afternoon .  Hubby called  211  & was able to talk to a live person & set them up .

maryz

Hooray, alpiner!  I'm almost 24 hours from 2nd shot and no reaction so far.

Hurrah for those who have been shot or will be soon!

Brrrrrr.....snowing here, -9 and wind chill = -24

We're under advisories to stay in until Monday.  So, I am in!  ::)

It will be a Lazy Weekend...again  :2funny:

Stay warm and safe,

Jane

0 virus deaths reported from 520,000 given the Pfizer vaccine in Israel. Hardly anybody even got sick, suggesting 93% effectiveness.

maryz

Wonderful news, Bubble! Thanks for sharing that. We can only hope for something close to that here.

jane, I promise I won't complain about our current 33*, or that we're supposed to have highs in the 30s all week.  Brr!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Mary, you took the words out of my mouth about not complaining about our temps, even though I AM cold--as usual. So glad you've had not side effects to the shot.

Alpiner, glad you're getting your shot and that your reports were good from the mamm and the Dr. Terrible that they gave you such a run around though.

Jane, how many layers do you have on?  Those temps are unbelievable. Stay in and safe and warm.

Darlene, I didn't comment on your grandson with Covid. Hope it is a light case and no one else gets it. How old is he?

Bubbles, what great news from Israel! Hope it continues.

Today is laundry day. Other than that doing nothing. It is cold and rainy outside, but the winter mix stayed north of Charlotte.

We had a lovely dinner last night at the clubhouse. Prime rib, baked potato, clam chowder, and a warm chocolate tunnel cake that was huge. I only ate half of mine and brought the other half home for tonight. Did I mention that John surprised me with a small valentine plant Thursday. It has a small heart balloon stuck in it and pink ribbons. The flowers are small and pink, but I don't know what they are. Pretty anyway and a nice surprise. He doesn't do that kind of thing too often.

Well need to change the wash again.  Hi to all. Sharon

jane

Back from putting away the laundry for today...sheets and pillow cases and towels.

Madelynn is out with the snowblower again on the walk and driveway.

Sharon...I have three layers on, including my parka when I go out, and then lined UGG boots, hat and lined leather gloves and a cashmere long scarf from my sister last Christmas.  Believe me, I'm not out long...no walks in this weather, for sure.

I need to work on a grocery order to send to WalMart for pickup Monday or so.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

Cottoncandy

Hi Buddies...Jane I haven't walked the past 3 days..the high has been 32 degrees and we are under winter weather watch thru Monday...sleet..snow and cold..I read on FB where someone posted Quote " Hey Northern States come get your weather..it's down here in Texas Drunk "..lol..we are not used to this ...but on a bright note..it will be 70 by Friday...have a great weekend.....

jane

Darlene...Uh...we don't want the weather back.  We're full up with cold and snow....so we'll just let you keep it.      :smitten:

Not much activity around...except my neighbor who is moving out of the rental house and into the house she bought 6-8 blocks away.  NOT a good weekend to move, but she wanted out by the 15th. They worked in snow and very cold and wind all day Friday and Saturday.  Things seem much slower over there today, so maybe they've got it all done.

Almost no traffic on the road out front.  I suspect a lot of church services are cancelled for today, given the winter cold and wind chill warnings.  It's -6 actual temp here at 12:23 pm.

I did finally get my order in to WalMart for pick up tomorrow between 10 and 11 and I'll get my 'script at the same time.

Stay warm, safe and healthy,

jane

SharonE

Jane, it sounds like you're prepared in how to dress for your weather. I'm not sure I could find enough layers. Our high is 40 today and that's low enough for me. Not raining at the moment but did last night and will I'm sure later. I hope I get my trip out with Bunny before it starts again. The night trips are John's. The one I really hate in the rain is at noon when I have to take the walker, Bunny on the leash, the pooper scooper, a bag, and then if it's raining, an umbrella and that is pretty much the final straw. So hard to handle everything. John takes her out first thing in the morning, since I sleep in, as well as at night when I don't want to risk falling.

Did 5 loads of laundry yesterday and will fold them shortly when John finishes his bridge game and brings things into the bedroom.

Two of the grands have received and responded about their recipe books. The youngest won't get his till his next trip home as I sent it there rather than to his dorm. Apparently, Thomas hasn't gotten his yet.

Darlene, I bet those temps are especially hard on you since you aren't used to them. Stay in and stay warm!

I finally got an appt to get a manicure for gel polish tomorrow. My nails are just a mess. Splitting, tearing, etc. Chemo did a number on them, but I've managed to keep them decent till the past couple years, especially this year. I suppose age has something to do with it too. My tremor makes it very difficult to take care of them.

Hope you are all having a blessed Sunday.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I envy you your manicure. Margaret has a gift card for me for a pedicure (when I can get permission to get out to get one), and I plan to get a manicure with gel, too. Glad your Valentine's dinner was a good one.

jane, can't imagine being that cold in the winter. We're having the longest cold spell here in three years. It hasn't gotten above freezing today, but nothing on the ground ... yet. We're supposed to get "measurable" snow tomorrow. But around here that means about 1-2", and I know it won't last long.

Darlene, that really is crazy weather for you. And then to get back into the 70s by the end of the week.

Happy Valentine's Day, Buddies!

maryz

Marilyn, I see that Oregon has gotten a lot of snow and ice. That's not usual for you, is it?  Have you had any problems?

We got the shot this afternoon .  I was asked have you read about the Pfizer vaccine as I was about to get the shot . I said I had heard good & bad things about it . Then was asked do you want to get it ? I answered yes .  So I got the shot .   Had to wait 15 minutes before we could leave in case there was a reaction .  No reaction so we left & had a late lunch .  Another weird Valentines Day !
Tuesday I have another dermatologist appt. to have another spot zapped on my arm .

Texas in cold bind:

https://kvoa.com/ap-national-news/2021/02/15/power-cut-across-texas-as-snow-ice-blanket-southern-plains/

My daughter lives in Texas --Palestine --outside of Dallas. She said they had 5 inches of snow last night and more on the way today. Also lost power for a couple of hours. Pictures are beautiful but sure not like Texas!!

Stay safe and warm everyone.

jane

Hi, Diglady...I've seen a lot of accidents on Texas and OK roads.  I suspect they don't have the equipment to deal with icy roads in big numbers.

Sharon...trying to take Bunny out in the rain sounds like an ordeal for you.  Be careful!

Mary...cold down your way, too.

Alpiner...hurrah for getting the shot.

Today is Presidents' Day so no mail.  I haven't had any for the last 3 days.  Still waiting for some paperwork so I can take my taxes over to my CPA.

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras!  Lots of parades were canceled, I understand, and fear of a superspreader.

Our numbers are dropping here, too, and I wonder how much that has to do with all the below zero weather.  Not fun to be out in it.

I was supposed to pick up my WalMart order between 10 and 11 and got a text at 10:01 that it wasn't ready yet. It says they're extra busy, and will text me when it's ready.  Glad to get that...rather wait here than in the car in their parking lot at -9.

Take care, stay warm and safe,

jane

Tomereader1

Anyone who would like to can see my post on current weather in Texas, go to SodaShoppe or Norm's Bait & Tackle forums.

Marilyn

Mary no snow and ice here that is  mostly  norther Oregon and southern Washington. Just a lot of rain here/.

I went for my bone scan this morning

SharonE

The weather everywhere is weird. I'm just glad that so far the snow/sleet is staying a little north of Charlotte. The rain is bad enough.

Marilyn, I hope your bone scan results are good. I need to have one too, but I stopped going to the dr. that ordered them and haven't found a new one with all this Covid. Glad you don't have snow.

Jane, your cardinals must love you for braving the snow and cold to feed them. They are so pretty in the snow. Hope you got your WM order. If it is raining too hard at noon, John will take Bunny out, but if it is a light drizzle or less, I try to.

Mary, I wasn't wildly impressed with my manicurist, but the price and convenience are right, so guess I'll stay with her.

The crashes and pileups on the highways in TX are horrendous. I haven't heard how many were hurt or killed.

Well, we've had dinner now and guess I'll watch some TV.  Sharon

maryz

Marilyn, glad you're escaping the weather. I assume alpiner is, too.

Weather report from Middle Tennessee at 8 a.m.:  Temperature is 12*!! Coating of ice on every surface; light snow showers.

Some of our staff stayed overnight, and some managed to make it in anyway. They're sending out "no travel" alerts for an adjoining county because of downed trees and power lines. At least here we have power, heat, and food (the head of food services was one who stayed overnight ... bless her). Unlike jane and Jeanne, governments in this area aren't prepared to handle weather like this, so it's always a major problem. Although this storm seems to be a "major problem" everywhere.

Stay safe and warm, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Darlene...hope you're warm and safe!

Tomereader...I don't know where you are in TX, but it appears the entire state is in an emergency.

Good cold and snowy and icy in a lot of places this Mardi Gras day.

I didn't get my WalMart order after all.  A woman called and said they'd had an upgrade to their computer system...and yep...it wiped out many morning orders.  She said I'd have to order again and says the "pending" on my account will be deleted...at some point.  I'm waiting a day or so before I put in another order.

So....instead I did the one thing I have always dreaded at this time of year...doing my INCOME TAXES.    :idiot2:  :uglystupid2:   However, it's so much easier this year since my accounts are now all consolidated in one place.  I texted Tammy, my CPA,  to ask if I needed to print out the tax forms and she said no, she has access as my account manager for those.  I'm just now waiting for the big one from the Dubuque Bank where my main accounts are.  What a relief!  Last year I had all those medical things for Ray and there were papers galore with all his hospitalizations, surgeries, chemos, etc.

My sister in Ohio texted this morning that they didn't get much snow, but LOTS of ice...windows all coated, etc., and she assumed driveway, but they were going nowhere.

Take care and stay warm and safe.

Jane

SharonE

Mary, I'm surprised to hear about your weather. It's good that your staff was either able to stay over or get in in spite of it. Good that there is no problem with heat, etc.

I feel for poor TX in this mess. I hope Darlene is okay and since Diglady is posting, I presume she is.  I have a daughter in the Chicago area and she said Midway got 18" of snow while O'Hare only got 6"!

Jane, I'm glad you and your sister are staying inside and safe. Good luck on getting your WM order in a couple days. Probably just as well you didn't have to go out yesterday.

It's actually dry and about 50 here today with a strange yellow thing in the sky that we haven't seen forever!  However, the rain is to be back Thursday. Still dry tomorrow which is good since we have to get Bunny groomed and my hair cut.

I had a bad night last night, so not doing much today.
Stay warm and stay safe.  Sharon

jane

I'm worried about Darlene and Tomereader and any other Texas gals looking in.

It seems to be the time for doctor's offices rearranging appts.  Rheumatologist office called with a recording, canceling March appt.  I was to call for another appt...but not going to.  She hasn't helped me with my pain so why bother.  We got through the same routine each visit and then it's come back in 3 months.

My cancer surgeon's office called this morning...a real person and wondered if I wanted to move my Feb. 25 up to tomorrow.  I took one of the slots and so will get that over with.  That large clinic always calls with a real person and schedules you in.  I don't think that's too much to ask.   I guess I'm in my "Grumpy Old Lady mood" this morning. :knuppel2:  :coolsmiley:

Our Southern gals....MAry and Sharon and Darlene are sure getting a taste of winter!

Stay safe and warm!

Jane

maryz

Glad you're getting appointments taken care of, jane. I had one this morning for a PT/INR check. When I called to reschedule, the recording said the office was closed "due to weather" (that happens around here when it snows), and the office would call to reschedule. I'll go next week, when we're due to be back in the 50s.  Texas really is getting hit hard with this storm. We're supposed to get more snow this afternoon/evening/tomorrow. But at least we had a bit of sunshine this morning, and the temps have "soared" to 28*.

Hang in there, Buddies!
