Jane. Now isn't there a way that will make it stay for every time you post once you have put in to make the change or do you have to code it every time? That gets tiresome. I know that some people have had it coloured for years.

Does anyone take Prolia ? I saw my cancer dr. today & she thinks I should get the Prolia injections every 6 months to help prevent bone loss . She gave me some information on it . I want to talk to my primary dr. about it because it may interfere with my regular medications .

It is not permanent:  It has to be done for each new post. In time it becomes automatic to do it.

maryz

alpiner, I take alendronate (generic for Fosamax) orally once a week, as a prescription from my rheumatologist.  I guess it is supposed to do the same thing as Prolia.  Sharon's husband is a retired pharmacist.  If nobody else is taking it, she might be able to help when she gets back on Friday.

Thanks, Bubble - you and/or jane are always there with help when we need it.

 >:( :
Bad news for the residents on my floor (2nd)! Elevator is OUT and for how long??????
Besides having to go downstairs for lunch AND my beauty shop day !!!!
My neighbor ( a nice male)  will (if necessary) hold my arm to go down by the stairs
but  I also have to bring with me quite a bit of extras (shampoo, etc.) -----and my walker is a must.
If it is still OUT at lunchtime, they will bring your meal up here  ::) but they can't
bring the beauty shop up here :) :) :)
JOY

maryz

So sorry, Joy.  I understand.  I'm on the 1st floor, but all our services (dining room, main entrance, meeting spaces, etc.) are on the 3rd (main) floor.  I could get down - very slowly - but definitely not UP.  :(

Good morning, Buddies.  It is very chilly here today and I've been out for a walk--and hadn't put on my heaviest jacket and consequently was pretty cold when I returned.  Thankfully Auburn and every town/city south of us didn't get the tornado like weather--Jacksonville State University had a lot of damage to buildings and a number of homes sustained heavy damage, some were totaled.

Alpiner, I take a daily generic (levo thyroxine) which is a generic for levothyroid tablets.  I had part of my thyroid removed when I was a senior in high school.  You might want to ask your doctor about this medication.  I once took Fosamax, but my prescription company has been changed and they switched me to levothyroxine.

Joy, what a pain to have the elevator out, have a difficult walk down stairs even with your friend helping, so inconvenient for everyone who isn't close to the dining room and/or beauty shop!  I hope they get it fixed soon!

Mary, how do you manage to get up 3 flights of stairs now?  Is someone bringing meals to you while you are still recovering from the surgery?  I sure hope so!

I have to go out about 1:15 to a garden club event.  We are visiting a lovely garden over in Opelika.  The lady who started the garden has died, but willed it to the city there and it's open for tours.  Unless it warms up a good bit and the wind stops blowing it will be a chilly tour!

Not much else going on here today.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

Sue, I use the elevator.  There are stairs, of course, but I've never used them.

SCFSue   I take levothyroxine for my thyroid . Prolia is to prevent bone loss .

maryz

alpiner, I take the thyoxine, too.  I think some here have had side effects from some of the bone-strengthening medications, but they'll have to chime in about that.  I haven't noticed any side effects from what I'm taking (but I'm not prone to medication side effects).

I suppose one should think about which floor they settle on when the move into Senior Housing. Most of ours go from one floor to some up to 6 floors.. That is something that could go wrong. Elevators out of service.  I remember being a a hotel one time where that happened . Good thing could handle the stirs.
JeanneP

jane

Alpiner...ask another of your docs.  (I have osteoporosis, according to the bone density tests, but I won’t take the various meds offered.  I believe the side effects would be hard on me and my immune system.)

Joy...bummer on the elevator. I hope they got it fixed quickly.

Beautiful day here.  Bridge was ok...nobody had great hands.

Snow expected here Saturday. Ugh

Jane

SCFSue

Another chilly morning here, Buddies, although it is supposed to warm up later.  I'm still in PJ's and the morning is getting away from me.  I need to dress and get bundled up for my morning walk.  My major project for today is to make my grocery list for tomorrow's trip to Kroger.  Tim and I (and maybe Kris) will go to lunch first and then to Kroger.  No rain expected today.  My azaleas are almost in full bloom and are beautiful this morning!

My trip to the garden in Opelika was a very chilly one.  We had a guided tour by one of the members of that organization and I enjoyed the talk about the different species displayed, but I nearly froze although I was wearing a heavy woolen jacket and slacks.  We had 2 young women who are students at Southern Union, a 2 year institution in Opelika.  One wants to work in horticulture.  They will transfer to AU next fall.  I have some of the same species of Azaleas in my yard and most are in full bloom now.  I need to prune others that had frost damage and not enough water last summer.

I need to get dressed and outside for some sunshine, but will have to bundle up.  Have a nice day, Buddies.

Sue

JeanneP

Jane.  I use to get the bone Density test about every 2 years. Don't bother anymore.  They told me showing Osteo now 27 years ago.  Gave a prescription of couple different things. Could not handle either one. All my bones hurt and got TMJ . So stopped all and not had a pain anywhere other than my thumbs if I type so long.  The did a MRI on me 3 months ago when I was hving that nerve problem in hip. Took MRI for whole body I think and said not show of problems in Hips, knees  or anyplace when it came to bones. I never have take Calcium either. All my life I have drunk lots of milk a day. Try to eat good type food. lots of walking . So to late now to bother about taking anything for bones. Never found any type of a pill that my body would take to.

Good morning, Buddies.  I have had breakfast, cleaned the kitchen, and showered and dressed for my weekly lunch date with Tim and a Kroger run.  I think he'll take me to the library to return books today.  I'll be glad to get some new ones, although I've been reading some books my cleaning lady brought me last week.

It's cloudy and may rain here today and possibly tomorrow.  I'm postponing my morning walk until after lunch, so might not get a walk today.  Next weekend, Stacie is coming up and we will go to Savannah for the weekend.  She tries to take me somewhere at least once a year and although I've been to Savannah several times with Bob, she hasn't been there and hopefully the weather will be nice.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Afternoon, Buddies!

We're to get some nasty winter weather tonight into tomorrow and we stopped at the grocery for some soymilk for Ray, and it was packed. You'd think we'd be snowed in for days from the crowds.

We did a trip to CR yesterday afternoon after a dermatology appt...got a "red thing" on my face burned off, so that's lovely now...big red "thing" as it heals.  I bought a new cell phone. I'd had problems with mine in not being heard when I connected to a landline.  So, a new one now to try and learn.

We're going out with our Fri. night supper out friends...place to be determined depending on the weather.

jane

maryz

Sue, how nice to have your DIL take you on a trip - and you get to introduce her to the lovely city of Savannah.  My granddaughter's wedding next March is going to be in Savannah, and I'm already looking forward to seeing the city again.

jane, sorry for your late-winter weather.  I hope it isn't too bad.  Sorry about your "big red thing".  ;) I have a place I probably need to get checked, too.  I really hate to add ANOTHER doctor to the list.

I got out this morning for the first time this week - went to coffee with a swim buddy, and then to the bank.  I had to get some "medallion signatures" to get those last pieces of finance transferred to my name.  I have an appointment with the financial folks next week, so I hope can get this last thing out of limbo.  I had thought it was all done, but alas...

Happy weekend, Buddies!

I have had Savanna on my todo list for  a age. Just have to go alone soon .none in family will go. How I miss old friends now. I have read a lot on it. Great walking town the say.
I have stopped bothering to have Doc take any little thing taken off my body .just check
Them. Last he did was a little one I never noticed on my nose and for two weeks looked awful and now I notice the little white patch

Jane.is has been nice here for 2 days but Now say cold coming on again.
JeanneP

jane

Old Man Winter has roared into Iowa....snow continuing to fall, winds out of the east (always a bad thing here) and the snow is piling up...but so what?  We're having a "snow day" here...in comfy, soft clothes and drinking tea and reading and knitting and just relaxing and watching it snow.  No where we need to go or be.

jane

maryz

Sounds like a great plan, jane!  It's supposed to go north of us.  Stay warm.

Looks like a stay home read and watch films all weekend. We had 2 days like summer and now back comes the snow. Very cold out.I started watching Lady Bird. Got sleepy and so it is still in my DVD player.  Will start it over I think later today.
Doubt I even get out of PJs today.

Hi Gals, I'm back from my trip to Tallahassee to visit my sil and nieces and nephews. Had good on-time flights and a wonderful time while I was there. My sil is a lot frailer than the last time I saw her and she is having problems remembering current things, but has a mind like a steel trap for anything else. Knows all the current news and sports news as well as family. It's mostly just times and appointments she has trouble with.  My nieces and nephew are all such loving, nice people. Three of them live in Tally and one drove up from Tampa to see me!  I do wish they were closer.  While I was there we went to see the recreations of the Nina and the Pinta. The Santa Marie is still under construction, I think. Anyway, it wasn't there.  I had seen the 3 ships when I was about 18 on a trip with my parents to Washington DC and environs, but it was good to see them again.  The main memory I had of them was how tiny they were for 20-24 men!  They told us though that the cabin boy was 7 and then the others ranged from 10 to 20, so they didn't take up as much space as 20 men today would.

Everything was fine at home although I think Bunny will have to be drained on Monday.

Alpiner, I took Prolia for a year and then decided that many of my muscle soreness, etc came from that. It's been several years since then & I still have the muscle soreness, so it is probably from my fibromyalgia. I went on Evista instead. That has been fine except that when they did my knee surgery, the surgeon said the bones were really porous. I am due for a new dexascan in May and the Dr is also going to run blood tests to see the calcium level etc.  I take a lot of calcium by tablet but I am lactose intolerant and can't drink milk. I do eat yogurt & cheese but have to take lactaid to prevent gas.  My Dr wants to put me back on Proliaa, but I haven't decided if I will.  I'm going to check out Jane's web site in a bit and also ask Melanie about it.  She is really my source of info on meds now. John has been retired 20 years and many of the meds have come out since then.

Jane & Jeanne, sorry winter has returned. Sounds like staying in and reading or watching movies is the answer.

Joy, so sorry to hear about your elevator. Sure hope it is fixed by now.  They should have a back-up.

Sue, sounds like you're on your regular schedule. I bet your azaleas are beautiful. Ours aren't in bloom yet, but my jasmine is in full bloom and gorgeous (Confederate).

Catching up on laundry, etc today. Melanie also called this AM for about 1.5 hrs!! That took a chunk out of my day, even though I wanted to hear all about  her news.

Didn't see a post from Marilyn or Ginny. Hope they are okay.  Sharon

jane

Sharon....sounds like a great trip.

Snow is over, wind has stop, we’re dug out and paid neighbor kid for his snow removal while we were in Tx.  Streets are just wet as temps rise in to the 40s.

Jane

Marilyn

Welcome home Sharon. I am here and I am fine. Just busy with the furry friends school programs,  going to Tai Chi Mondays and Wednesdays and Teaching Tai Chi on Tuesdays and Fridays.

It has been raining here all week. On Thursday with in 30 minutes it rained , snowed and hailed. I haven't taken Freckles folr a walk for two days, not even to the mall. The last two times I took here there she pooped in the mall, good thing I always have poop bags in my pocket.

JeanneP

Snow is still coming down here. They say will be the most we get today than the ones we have had all year. Really getting deep. Don't have a yard man now as he sold all his heavy equipment and retired. Had a Heart scare  few month ago. So now sure about show moving or grass and Bush cutting. Everyone seems to be retiring or dying . Thats what happens as we age I guess. Always having to find new people. Young arn't to willing for heavy work anymore.

Sharon. Now I drink a lot of milk. Always have. Now I drink the 100% Lactose free. Seems to work fine. Just can't take the Calcium Tablets. The Milk is $8 a gal.  Regular milk now is selling so cheap. Yesterday was only $1.79 gal. Can't see how a farmer can keep cows at that. Been that price for almost a year now.

SCFSue

Good evening, Buddies.  I don't know where the day has gone.  I slept late, had breakfast, put in a load of wash, walked my usual 20-25 minutes in the neighborhood, put the wash in the dryer, talked to my new neighbor, and have been watching women's basketball games this afternoon.  Some of the ones I like won, and others lost.  Of course UConn women smashed Duke women--Yuck!  Our South Carolina women won their game and will have to play UConn--and that could be a tough game for Carolina.  UConn is my least favorite women's team.  Mississippi State U. is the second least favorite--my feelings about each team is that the coach's are VERY ARROGANT!

I've showered, shampooed and after eating pizza and drinking a beer, I'm watching Hallmark TV this evening.  I hope you've all had a nice day and this evening will be nice, too.

Sue

JeanneP

All snowed in today. Not had this much snow in a long time. I may go out and clean it off my car but will not try shoveling it. Suppose to warm up and so may melt fast.
JeanneP

SharonE

We are cold here too--in the 40's.  I even have a heater on here in my den. I wore a turtleneck and a cardigan to church with a coat for outside!!  I have the 2nd load of laundry in and put out some frozen chicken thighs that I will do something with this evening.  What, I don't know.

I'm still trying to get back in the groove from my trip I sub in a bridge group tomorrow and then host my own bridge group on Wed.  Our local area is voting on incorporation on Tue. I sure hope it doesn't go through as I know the taxes will outweigh any advantages.  Thursday is my cataract surgery, so won't be able to go to Maundy Thursday services.  I should be fine by the weekend though.

Purdue and Butler are both out of the tournament, so I'm really not much interested now.

Stay warm and dry everyone.  Sharon

JeanneP

Sue.  I think that I have now decided when Spring does get here and I am out walking more then I am going to invest in a pair of Norwegian walking canes. We have had a club over here at the University big walking park for about 6 years. I have walked behind them some times . These are even young people. What they do is give even balance. No strain to backs.
Very light weight. Some less than 2lbs. Have a strap on them Not the heavy wood or steal heavy walking canes. Use to cost about $150 a pair but now came down as they got popular.
takes a little practice to start but then so easy to use they say.
