Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

MaryPage, love your verbal picture of the karaoke singers.  Such fun!

jane, I hope you get some good cards.

I saw the attorney this morning, signed some papers, wrote some checks (attorney's bill - ARGGHH!), and now the estate is settled.  The attorney asked if I had my documents in order, and I said I did.  I want to rewrite and update them, but I want to get another attorney.  This fellow was okay, but I always felt like I was having to push him to get things done - and there was just no real rapport.  Anyhow, I'm going to ask my financial gal for an appointment soon, and will get a recommendation from her.

This morning was swimming, attorney, and Walmart (WHEE!).  And nothing this afternoon.  My other knee started hurting on this trip, and I'm starting to think about the possibility of having them both done at the same time.  I'll have to do some thinking and talking about that.  I see the rheumatologist in a couple of weeks, and will definitely be talking to him about it.  And also the orthopedist, of course.  I've known people who have done both at once or in two operations, and all were satisfied with the outcome.  So I'm of an open mind about it right now.

Happy Hump Day, Buddies!

My poor little GGD will be entering her first year in kindergarten next week with a broken arm.
They were here for two weeks but on Saturday left fly home to  Connecticut making a stop in Indianapolis to stay with friends over night. Had one of the jumping things in their yard. Side gave way and she fell out.spent night and a day in hospital but flew home Monday.
The twins were being separated in school as not to be so noticed but now little brother wants to be with her to take care .

Thanks all for the nice comments re Bunny.

MP, your family is certainly an active one.  Sounds like fun. So sorry to hear about your water problem.  Good thing you were there to get it stopped before it damaged things. Still a pain though.

Jeanne, so sorry to hear about your GGD breaking her arm. Not a good start for school. Hope it wasn't her dominant arm.

Mary, if I ever decide on a knee replacement, I would go for both at the same time. I've heard of several people who were very happy with it.  It takes so long to recover from a KR, I sure wouldn't want to do it twice.  I had a partial replacement in 2004 and have regretted not going for the full one ever since.  Just as much pain and rehab.  Lately, I've been seeing a lot of info on stem-cell injections in the knee to regrow the cartilage, etc. I may go that route if I ever figure out my back problem.  Glad you got the estate settled and over with. Hope you can find someone better to help you out with your will, etc.   You've had a busy day.

Jane, hope you have a good game this afternoon and that Ray makes some inroads on the "stuff"!

I started work on my SS lesson yesterday, but need to work some more on it today.  Sharon

My cards weren't very good, but I ended up with a good partner on the third round and we won two games in a row so that 700 sure helped.  I ended up winning .50   You can tell we're big spenders!!

Mary..I have a friend that had both knee replaced at same time...she did real good...I have been sick this week with resp infection..taking AB...but have not felt good and no energy.....we got 3 in rain and now it's hot and humid...Hi to any looking in...Candy

SharonE

Hi Gals, Welcome Phyllis. Be glad you don't qualify, but pop in any time to chat.

Jane, you're the last of the big gamblers!! :2funny:  We put in a dollar so our prizes are 5-4-1 for 1st, 2nd, booby.  Still not big spenders.

I was up half the night last night!  Grrrr.  Still had to go grocery shopping, so took a power cart again.

Darlene, sorry you haven't been feeling well. HOpe you mend quickly. It's no fun and seems worse in the summer.

We got a little rain last evening, almost an inch the past 2 days total. Every bit counts, but the Charlotte tally says we are -6 inches so far. We usually catch up in the fall. Hope so anyway.

Hope everyone is staying cool.  Sharon

jane

Get well, Darlene!  No fun to be sick in this hot, humid weather!

Phyllis...welcome...we are a chatty group! :2funny:

Sharon...rats on not sleeping.  I'm having problems falling to sleep lately.

We went to CR today and it was hot....93 and humid.  Takes the "starch" right out of me.

Marilyn

Phyllis Welcome, I don't qualify either I joined this group quite a while ago when my daughter had breast cancer and  my friend Willa.

Freckles and I went to the hospital for visiting today and to Baycrest Rehab hospital yesterday along with the Memory care center. When I went to the mailbox this afternoon there was a package of treats for Freckles and a card addressed to her from the people down the street at the adult foster care house. That was so sweet of them, we need to give them another visit as it has been about a month since we went there.

MaryPage

I cannot put this date down without remembering my darling Mama, my stepmother, who was the dearest person EVer.  Let's see, she would have been 106 today.  I was so lucky to have her in my life.

What a whirl of stuff going on in my family.  In the wee hours, around three o'clock, I think, we had a tremendous storm pass through here yesterday.  I am one who sleeps through such like, so I did not know about it until I saw the leftover wet outside and on my decks yesterday morning.  Kathryn & John, with wee Ava, live in the deep, deep woods.  In their living room, which is almost a wall of windows, in fact, I think you could accurately call it that, you feel as though you are living right IN the trees.  Well, one of those great beauties crashed down in that storm, and, with the unerring precision so many great trees seem to have, it smacked down right on John's new truck.  Kapow!  The insurance people came (totaled) and the tree people came (so Kathryn could get her car out) and John will, after an annoying day, have a rental until they can settle on another new truck.  In the meanwhile, a cute story.  Kathryn had to pick up Ava from Daycare, normally John's job, and take her with her to the grocery store.  Ava will be 4 months old on the 22nd.  They passed the flower department, and Ava exclaimed: "Oooooooo!" over a large bunch of sunflowers.  So Kathryn bought them for her.  Good grief!  She sent me a photo, and they were outstanding.  Many bits and pieces of news from other family: one granddaughter in the ER overnight, another going to sell up in Texas and move to Hawaii, another will turn 50 the day Ava turns 4 months, and I was there the day SHE was born!  Helaine!  Fifty!  Oh well. Tracy, who is just older, turned 50 in March.  I feel the moving walkway is turning into a swiftly moving RUNway.  Slow down, World; I'm having difficulty assimilating it all at this speed!

Another splendid summer day, all golden & blue & green, with white sails scooting along over sparkling bay waters.  Love to My Buddies.

jane

What excitement good and bad in your family lately, MaryPage!!  Sure glad nobody hurt in the window and tree thing and that GD is ok after an ER run.  Wow...what a change...TX to Hawaii!! ;D

We had storms overnight and more to come late this afternoon and tonight and maybe all day tomorrow, if the "weatherguessers" are right.

Bad night here...so not doing much today...as the joints know the weather pressure is changing.

I have to confess that I too have been a regular lurker for about a year now. I do enjoy keeping up with so many of you and often wanted to comment but it wasn't my place to. My mother had breast cancer but my father and all three of us had colon cancer at different times so I feel we must be all "cancered" out, or hopefully.

Marilyn, we have many ongoing rescue groups here and some of those folks also partner in visiting our nursing homes, and private and public care homes. I remember that before my father died in 1995, he enjoyed visits from a lady and her iguana of all things!

There is a friend of mine who breeds and sells Saint Bernards as well as being prominent in Search and Rescue here, (You can easily become turned around in the forested foothills, ridges and peaks here and the multitude of rivers. This was the place that they made the movie about the boy starving to death in the old school bus). She also takes some of her dogs visiting and participates in various canine organizations and promotions.

Anyway, I thought I'd confess that while silent, I have so enjoyed occasionally visiting.

jane

Hi, Angelface!  I've "talked" to you in the Computer discussion, I know, and it's good to see your post here.

Yes, we all seem to have had some experience ourselves or in our families with cancer, unfortunately.

I'm going to try and get a walk in while it's dry and relatively cool.  My philosophy is that even a short walk is better than none at all.

Hi Angel Welcome to our group and please do come back often.

I got a nice surprise yesterday when I went to the mailbox. There was a package of treats for Freckles and a card addressed to her. The card read Dear Freckles I hope your can enjoy these treats there is no wheat, corn or soy and they are gluten free. love from Judy and Laura at the Adult foster care home.

We will have to drop by there for a visit on Sunday after church to say hello to the ladies. I had told them that she shouldn't have regular treats. Judy and Laura are mother and daughter, the daughter walks the mother every day up our street in her wheelchair.

Yesterday we visited the hospital, we changed our visits from Friday to Thursday because there were so many empty rooms on Friday, Well, yesterday the 4th floor was just about empty and the ones that were there were sleeping all accept  3 people who dearly loved the dogs visits, Freckles was welcomed up on 2 of the beds. ( which is a no no) but the patients called her up so It was OK. The other dog was Duke he is an extra large yellow Lab  that must be mixed with something else, He weighs 114 lbs, He and Freckles get along quite well and we are often partners with him and Carlene.

SharonE

Mary Page, you need a computer app just to keep up with all your family members and their "doin's".

Angelface, Welcome. Glad you, too, are a cancer survivor.  Where are you from?

Marilyn, as usual, you're doing good things with Freckles.

Jane, you are good to walk as much as you do with all your joint problems.

I've got a load of laundry in, but other than that, haven't done much.  We got an inch of rain last night. Yea!  We're even to get some cooler, dryer, weather next week, at least if nothing changes. It will be greatly appreciated.  Sharon

maryz

Hi Angelface and Phyllis - the more the merrier (except for the cancer part, of course)!  In any case, welcome and chime in anytime.

MaryPage, so glad the tree only got a truck - annoying as that is.  Would've been so much worse if I had hit the house.  You do have such a wonderful family.  Yours reminds me (as does ours) of the line from "My Fair Lady" -"She'll have a booming, boisterous family...".  We all have fun.

Our wonderful daughter, Sue, has a birthday today, too - she's 60!!!!  I can't possibly have a daughter that old.  Ha!

We've had some wonderful, heavy (if brief) rain showers yesterday and today - with more rain predicted for over the weekend.  As much as we need it, I only hope we're taking it away from Louisiana - and wish we could share with California.  I got a long-overdue massage this morning, and it was wonderful!  That did it for the excitement for the day.

Happy weekend, Buddies.

JOY...are you and your family ok?

junee

I am a Lurker too.  Always hoped you would not mind.

maryz

How nice to have "lurkers"!  Y'all chime in and join the party.

We got about 2" of rain yesterday, with rainy days predicted today and tomorrow.  A good day to stay in and computer/knit/read/watch Olympics/nap/etc.

Enjoy your weekend, Buddies!

Wow,,good morning from Texas..we have rec 5 inches rain thus far and still off and on showers..my grass looks so green. Thank you Lord..Mary p you have a busy exciting family...I sure miss those who aren't close to me..Marlyin..you do a wonderful service with your dogs. I try to visit the nursing home here and offer to pray with those who ask me to...there are so many that never have visitors...everyone have a great wk end. Candy

angelface555

Thanks for the welcoming words to me and all the lurkers, you have such a nice group! I am from Alaska's Interior and we are in the midst of the third wettest summer on record. We have had some minor flooding, a high water table and lots of high water with our five area rivers. But nothing like in the states. Here it is similar to a desert,(even have sagebrush!); or prairie and we seem to have either multiple fires or else multiple floods.

Marilyn

Welcome Junee to our little corner here on S&F. We do enjoy  having other come to join ur conversations.
Today is our weekly Walmart run for some groceries then at 11:00 I am to go open  the Furry friends dog park this week for our dogs to  some Dog play time with each other. The regular person is taking care of one of the other big dogs for  one of our humans who had surgery yesterday.

I haven't had anymore of the incidents like last Sunday, Thank God. I am making sure I stay hydrated. That was sure a lesson learned for me.

jane

I hope our Joy can check in soon and let us know she and her girls and family are all ok from the LA flooding.

Darlene...wow...lots of rain for you, too.  I hope Houston escapes flooding.  I saw a large storm was headed their way. They've sure had enough flooding.

Marilyn...Do you get a lot of dogs at the Dog Park?

Hi to Maryz, Angelface and Junee.

It was wet here, too, this morning.  We had rain come through last night and we had a very light mist when we did our walk this morning.  It's beautifully cool too....a welcomed relief from the heat.

Nothing exciting here...I'll be doing the usual stuff and watching some preseason football and maybe catch men's soccer.

Have a cool weekend!

JeanneP

We finely got some more rain this morning. Good but to bad for the big food and entertainment that started in town for last night and today. about 30 venders will be getting soaked through. It has stopped now so maybe will be O.K for rest of day.
Last week it was the State fair and there it rained for 3 days hard. Now they are saying that it lost a lot of money this year. Always bad when venders come from so far away and they do hire expensive entertainment.
After this weekend we most probably will not get rain again for awhile.
So today I am going to go spray about a gal. of weed kill out on my yard. Never seen so many weeds come up so tall and fast. Looks awful. Think also some  Poison Ivy out there as I got it all around my ankles. Always catch it so easy.. Stuff from Drug store not working and so I am back on the Vinegar and Baking soda wash. Also someone told me put Vicks on and it does stop the inching.

As I recall, Joy definitely lives in Baton Rouge; and I seem to think she moved to an Assisted Living place for Seniors a few years ago.  But then again, possibly I am thinking of our Western Maryland Joy.  My meaning is that, while such a place may well have been flooded, and she may or may not have lost personal possessions, even including a vehicle, I don't think she has lost a house.  If the place she has been living was flooded, I expect to hear they got all of the residents out.  Being in one of those vast public shelters would be ghastly, so I am hoping she has, if necessary, been whisked away to the home of a relative or dear friend.

Marilyn

Jane only two other  dogs came today, usually e have about 7 dogs show up.  The park is only for our f/urry friend group dogs.

jane

MaryPage...yes, that's our Joy.  I spoke to her on the phone when we were briefly in Baton Rouge several years ago.

Marilyn...that's probably a good idea from what I've heard of the diseases and problems dogs can get from the large dog parks.

Jeanne....yep...rain here too and misty today, but much more pleasant...cooler temps so can have the windows open.

Molly

SHARON - As we approach another Sunday, I wondered how you've enjoyed teaching Sunday School?  Will you continue to do so?  While I thought about your class, I recalled how really enjoyable it has been over the years when I taught SS - usually when the regular Teacher was away or occasionally when I was asked to serve as a specific speaker RE a particular section of the Christian Bible or other religions.  Hope I did a good job for the class and was able to respond in an interesting and informative manner to the questions from class members.

Just received the 2017 License sticker for our car, so that is taken care of.  One less issue to worry about at this time of year.

We've had beautiful weather recently if a bit more hot than I'd appreciate, but at least no more huge storms or fallen trees.  Hope all have a great weekend!

JeanneP

Molly.  Why don't you see if they need a substitute at your church for you to take over the teaching class on Sundays when one person would need to take a Sunday off. I am sure the would really appreciate the offer.

Jane that dog park was originally donated to the North Bend PD to use for training purposes. Then   they do the training elsewhere so the lady who owns it  gave Furry Friends the key. ( she is a supporter of olur group) for us to use for our dogs. Yes it is true that there are many diseases that can be passed from dog to dog or even off the ground. We are so careful with our dogs;  taking them to the vet when something doesn't seem right, getting their shots and even what kind of treats they get and food they eat. They have to be in tip top good health at all times for going into the medical facilities and  being with the children at the library and i  the schools. or with each other. My vet tells everyone  No NOSES! as that is how some sickness are passed. They can sniff butts but not noses. If one of our dogs is unwell  they stay at home.
