Don, those remind me of those long Austrian horns that they blew in the hills.

Amy, we've dropped to plus seven, and the wind has scoured all the new snow and left us to the ice again. :(

According to the weather reports, our high will only be plus 18, and we won't see the plus thirties again until the fifteenth.

Shirley, my mom used to make candied carrots for Thanksgiving similarly.

Camping in the desert this week (without me!)

desert 2.jpg

Because of the plentiful rain this month, there is lots of small vegetation and this is glorious food for the Bedouins' herds of goats.

Bubble, again such interesting photos! Your desert climate contrasts so vividly with my forested one. I love seeing these photos!

A change of scenery.
In Thailand it was Water Festival, when everyone in the street is with water pistols and shoot all the other pedestrians.

Sorry about the poor quality of the photos: I cropped them from a video that Tany sent me on WhatsApp.

What an amazing idea for a festival! I'm going to look this one up. I should have known it would be for the new year! :)

This is what I found, "Sometimes referred to as the Thailand Water Festival, Songkran is an annual event that marks the beginning of the Thai New Year. It's the largest celebration throughout the whole country and is also famous for being one of the wildest water fights you may ever participate in."

Imagine being shot at with an elaborate water pistol from the back of an elephant

For JaneS

I  put my new grandson, Cam, to sleep when he wouldn't go for anyone else! And I got to hold him all the while he was sleeping!  He's a little "doll baby".  You can tell I love him!

Amy

Jane, both you and Cam look so contented. Thank you for sharing..thank you Bubble for posting.!!

A photo that will be cherished, Jane! You are very lucky!

Saw this gem at a local doctor's office earlier. 1947 Plymouth Special De Luxe. Click on any of the images to see a larger version (images are too big to attach here and I don't feel like resizing them :P). Also ignore my finger in the first shot - I was already in the doctor's office by the time I noticed that and the car was gone by the time I got done.

Michael...
...that car puts all the other cars to shame, sadly they dont make cars like that anymore...I used to go to classic car shows here in UK, the owners would be shining them up and taking so much pride in them..and of course the smell of the leather..,

Jane...
...treasure that moment...

Rushing along but do love all the photos. Bubble, for sure that kid is a dare-devil & like MY mother said often about me, "you'll wear out your Guardian Angel"...   still don't have the way to open my 2nd g-mailbox so hope to get help with that someday. I saw those bubble things at a park last time in Colorado, gave me chills to watch!

Have to laugh at the Plymouth.... my mother had one that vintage & Dad was so indignant he wouldn't work on it because my youngest brother helped her shop & didn't buy Fords that Dad approved of.... anyway, Mom left the keys in the car on the street (unlocked) so anyone could use (she trusted everyone). I would have to stomp the floor by the footfeed when we hit a bump and lights would go off.... Plym was not new. Dad's car was "for work" & he hauled 4 of the men that worked for him every day, so nobody allowed to drive it. Dad bought a 37 Ford pre WWII & "souped it up"... had 4 on the floor. I did sneak it out one time because the next door girl my age said she knew how to shift.. we drove miles because she couldn't find reverse. Only other time was to drag race when he was out of town but I didn't know how to shift fast enough. 4 on the floor. We were a wild bunch of drivers back in the early '50s, every time someone's parents got a new Mercury, Olds or ... one other that did 120 mph, anyone remember? The old heavy Hudson would hold the road best on those curvy Mo roads, we tried them all. My mother said a lot of "Hail Marys" to get me thru those years!

And now I lay me down to sleep........  He is a keeper, Jane, you both look so content. Sorry I don't have the strength to visit with you. Every day someone from home health care comes to check on me and I have to send in my vitals like Lloyd does. I even had to nix a visit from my oldest gr-daughter that flew into Wichita on her way back to her house on the east coast. Not sure where I got this last bug, not Covid but still fighting it. When I talk too much I run short of oxygen so my world is limited.

Amy, the bag is lovely and well made—a very thoughtful gift.  I think I've said before that one is known by their friends, which says a lot about you.

JaneS

#10220
Oh AMY, I love the bag and as PATRICIA said, it's very evident that your friend considers you HER friend!  IT was a lovely way to say it!

Thanks, Everyfriend for the the comments on my picture with Cam.  He's a little doll baby and so far, I think I've had about a hundred smiles from him!  I've also had lots of time with Emma and Mikey!

About that car, it brings back lots of memories!  I learned to drive on a 1939 Dodge that looked a lot like that car.  It was the first car my dad ever bought new and he bought it in 1939.  I turned 16 in 1951 and we still had it when I graduated from high school and it was still going strong when he took me out and taught me to drive it!  I think I loved that car almost as much as my Dad did!  But was blue..my favorite color!

Amy

Patricia and Jane, thank you for your kind words. My friends friend makes these...it is a husband and wife team that puts these one of a kind bags together, he does the embroidery and she quilts the bag.

Eastern Bluebird

Eastern bluebird -Shirley.JPG

Shirley

Thank you, Bubble, great job since it was taken thru 3 layers of dirty glass! Have the double pane Andersen windows plus a dark tinted storm window. Need to clean inside & out but haven't got around to it lately. We see the western bluebirds in Colorado & always a thrill to see either, but only one I see from my window normally is the sassy bluejay. Thanks again. Shirley

Shirley

Amy, forgot to comment on the bag, really nice!  At one time I bought a canvas tote bag & did a painting of a friend's dog on the front but was sure not the lovely quilted like your friend made. For sure way too many hours of work to do for sale.

Shirley...I can't see under the
feeder trays...how do you keep the squirrels away?
I was in a Farm Supply store the other day and they had a 25 pound bag of seed labeled BACKYARD BUFFET...with a large picture of a squirrel on it...don't think they need their own brand.

Cottoncandy

..Shirley..that's exactly my question...how do you keep squirrels away...I have blue jays here...the squirrels steal from all the feeders...

Shirley

#10227
The squirrels get their share but all I have to do is open the door or start to open the garage door (I can get to either), and it is off like a shot. So many in this area feed the wildlife they give up easy. Somewhere I have a photo of one hanging from that hook & eating upside down. Neighbor that used to live across the street bought every feeder on the market to outwit them and gave up and bought one that had a seat on each side & place to anchor half an ear of corn on it's table. He gave up gracefully. :surrender:

RAMMEL

But they are so much fun to watch. I have one that comes right up to me and sits up and waits for a peanut. That in addition to two Robins that harass me for raisins. They follow me at times.   .......... Yes, they get the raisins  ::)
It's the WINDMILLS

Shirley

Love that thought, Rick.....  I had an uncle that enjoyed a squirrel sitting on their back yard bench & share goodies with him. My kind of life!
