Joy and Bubble thanks, I have given lots to family and to charity.   Do not keep if I will not use and very little for my two to handle when the time comes.  I would trade the "neat" to have Shirley and the two kids back, and growing up in a family of 10 kids, we had no idea what "neat" meant.  Now you will notice a stack of baskets on the right in shelves, and used for particular needs, as well as a large cupboard and file drawers.

Joy you might check out the dishes on this site, you can possibly determine their worth and understand they also buy.   We used them years ago to replace pieces of several sets we had.

Notice the tabs along the top for crystal etc.

JeanneP, the older we get the faster the birthdays it seems.   Waiting for my new washer and dryer so you know what my day will be like.  :o

JeanneP

Jack. You make me feel awful now. Looking at your woodwork and how neat and tidy.  I have all the same colour wood all through other than each room had a wall Wallpapered.  You told me once that you used, Was it called Liquid Gold to clean the wood work.  I tried every where. Don't have it now.  I started yesterday again with just Flax soap. I also now put wood floors in kitchen, bathrooms and hall way.
Soon as it get nicer weather I will take another look at your photo and get myself to work.

I was just in the Eagle Web. Wish she would hurry and move as can't see the other little one. She is eating at this time. One baby watching.

Jeanne, like everything else styles change, and paneling is now out.  I am keeping mine, we added the family room 1976, picked good panels and had it installed over drywall.  It looks like new and yes I use Scotts Liquid Gold, and probably once every other year.  They have a web site, it is not expensive and believe WalMart handles.

Have also been checking the Eagle Cam (they have two, check both) I will look in and yesterday caught both Eagles and the chicks.
Worth looking in from time to time and go full screen.  All are now in the nest check both cams.

Frost again this morning, but warmed up  so back to the park.   More tulips in bloom and a spot to sit.

View from one bench   Long may it wave.

Joy

Jack, beautiful picture of the flag.  Looked like a nice day to just sit.  It is still a little chilly here, but it is sunny.  I think next week will be warmer.

I am familiar with the website for the replacements.  I have gotten several pieces from there over the years.   The two sets of dishes I have had belonged to my mother.  One set is a hand-painted china with 12 place settings and even has 3 large tureens.  My aunt had hand-painted them and I wouldn't even know what the pattern is.  The other set is a luncheon set from back when Jewel Tea Co. offered as an incentive.   I think you bought pieces  and paid for them by the month.  I did take both sets one time to be appraised, but don't remember what they were appraised at. I have a list somewhere.  There are several places down in Baltimore, but just problem finding the time to go take them.

I agree that it is a good idea to get rid of things while you know where they are going, but I am afraid that I probably will leave everything up to my kids to dispose of.  Over the years, we have cleaned out 3 big houses from being left the contents to get rid of.  It can be a chore, I know.  Sometimes, I look around and think that I should get myself busy and get some of those things taken care of. But, I just don't have the energy to do it. Just thinking about it makes me tired. LOL  I do have several nice collections of things.  I have a lot of good glassware and crystal  and a whole set of Steiff silverware, which my kids are not interested in. Since I don't entertain anymore, it never gets used. My place is too small now to have a lot of people. One of my sons hates to come here because of it being so crowded.  Once in a while my grandson will come and bring the little ones and I do fix meals then.  One of the ladies who lives where I live was discussing this same topic one evening. She said she has started using some of the things that she used to use for company.  I might think about that, also.   One of these days, my family  can have a big yard sale.

In the meantime, I can agree with Jeanne.  Makes me feel awful when I see how nice and neat your place is.  My son lives by himself in a big house, and it is a mess.  He is one who doesn't know how to put things away. But, he is the one who has to live there.  Every once in a while, he will tell me he stayed home on a Sat. to clean up.

BIG BOX

jackwv

Joy my first job was handling stock for a construction company.   I would neatly stack equipment and they would kid me, but it was not just for appearance, but for me to take a quick count for re-order.  In the service I was in records management and again had to organize.   In my years in banking I wrote manuals and procedures and always tried to reduce things to the simplest details.  I now have so much time, and when looking for things to do will look around and put things where I will remember.

The discussion on family not identifying things they may want, now or when, reminded me years ago of friends with a son and daughter.   They set them down and said they wanted them to make a list of things they would want.  They said the daughter sat and cried while the son quickly wrote down, TV, Cameras, Computer and on and on!
   :) :)

JeanneP

Jack.  I am heading out to Walmarts soon and so will look again for that Liquid Gold.  I like the wood also. Long as it is the real stuff.

Just went in and checked the Eagles again. Both chicks O.K.  Poor mom. She looks so bored.
Yesterday she was way over on the side away from them looking out as if to say if I didn't have these chicks I could be out there flying around.  She is taking good care of them.
JeanneP

JeanneP

Jack.  Now I did find the Liquid Gold wood cleaner wax at Walmarts. Just did not look like it did years ago. Different can.  Bought 2 so now can maybe get a good start on all the woodwork. One room at a time.

I wonder if our Eagle like that light shining on her all night long. At least the babies are covered. Not like my parrot. If I don't cover its cage by 8:30pm she really lets me know. Fact I only have 4 minutes and she would be screeching. Will not even let you turn a light back on once covered.  Does Jessie have a set time to go to bed? As you have her walking the park daily I bet she is ready early
JeanneP

jackwv

Jeanne they do turn the light off in the evening, do not know what time, but read that type of light is not seen by the Eagles.   Jessie sleeps most of the day (and night)   She never played ball or games but loves her walks and gives me the look several times a day.  We both need what little exercise we get.   When doing yard work she follows me around.

High School Homecoming Dance and youngsters go to Oglebay for photos.

Jessie also decided to pose. :)

Jack
Are there so few students or are they scattered.  Jessie sure likes to get her photo taken.

Hope you all are getting the great weather that we are having today.  Can't keep myself indoors. Going to last at least a week. My personality has changed completely. The dark and rain where getting to me.

The Eagle chicks are getting so dark colours coming in now.  Hope my Parrot gets some new feathers. I had it outside in the the sun for awhile. That is what they miss in the winter month.

Grand Haven Beach is getting more activity Today. Bet this weekend will get more.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

I just looked at Grand Haven and there are quite a few people on the beach.  Not relaxing, but enjoying the good weather.  My thermometer says 70 degrees but I think it is actually a few degrees cooler.

JeanneP the students want to be alone in the photos so they take their turns.

Mary Ann I bet folks have been waiting for a turn in the weather to hit the beach.  Bet they still recite "But don't go near the water"

Today I saw a couple trying for a selfie and offered to take several photos.  They were married today by Magistrate and next week plan a reception.  They were from my old home town, Pittsburgh, and were pleased I offered.  I do not have the photos.

Oglebay offers so many settings and here was a Wedding at Tulip time that I took several years ago.

FlaJean

Nice pictures, Jack.  I do love those tulips and Jessie was her usual pretty self.  Son-in-law was working today so Gigi (daughter), Larry and I went out for breakfast at a little cafe called Tommie Mattonie's.  It's a very popular place so we went early---delicious and reasonably priced.

Jean it sounds great to be with family, so take your time, enjoy and when able lets see you and Larry back with the photos.

Just took a look at the restaurant so will add to enjoy that great food to the list!

JeanneP

The mother Eagle is still gone from the Nest leaving the 2 babies.  Been gone all day. Scary as last year I was watching one nest and another Eagle came and killed the young while the parents were gone.  They left it on for awhile showing it happening.  I suppose the babies are screeching right now. It looks like it. or the could be wanting to be fed.

Beautiful day here again. Had warm and sunshine for last 4 days. Hope it keeps it up.
Saw and heard that out North West they are having some really heavy snow storms.
Skiing should be still in full force . Made a lot of money this year.
JeanneP

jackwv

A few warm days and all the Tulips now open.  This group was the last to bloom and looks like a few red ones slipped in.

JeanneP

Finely this weekend, the tulips are beginning in bloom around here. Shame they just do not last long enough.

Jack,  a real Garden of Eden.  I envy you.

jackwv

Bubble I am very fortunate to have Oglebay just 10 minutes from my home, and this time of the year visit there almost daily, simply to walk along the paths and enjoy the view.  Thought you and others might take a few minutes to view the video from Oglebay that shows all the features.   It is almost 10 minutes long but you can skip along to eliminate some.

Joy

Jack,  you know I never tire of seeing Oglebay,  either through your wonderful pictures, or this neat video.  Thanks for sharing your special place with us.  You should get some kind of a reward for promoting this special place.  They should put a plaque with your name on one of the benches. LOL

Joy thanks, have been going there for over 50 years and still enjoy every minute, while seldom anything new.   They do have a number of benches, all with plaques, with all the good spots taken.  I use many and Jessie usually stands and waits to go on with the walk, or take her off leash and let her wander around the bench.  Problem now is her hearing and have to clap to get her attention.  She does not jump but insists on visiting anyone walking, more so the people than other pets.

Mary Ann

Jack, I'd love to be walking at Oglebay and come upon you and Jessie so I could meet both of you.  After Tom and family having a golden, I think they are my favorite dog.  Prior to that, it might have been a doxie and/or Heinz type (what we had 70 years ago).

I now like most animals as long as someone else owns them.  And I do not own our resident cat - he belongs to Annie, however, her landlord is very allergic to cats, so he lives here.  In a way, he is my cat, but we both know better!

Thanks for the link Jack. Such beauty. Nature is really wondrous.

FlaJean

Lovely white tulips with a little red here and there.  Nice!

jackwv

Those looking in here should also take a look and possibly join in the photo challenge.

Many of the tulips are already losing their petals, but this group just blossomed.  Originally there were only a few red mixed in with the white but was told they intended to mix in the red, and a nice mix.   Now when they pull the bulbs to sell wonder if they can keep track of what people are buying.  The tulips are about gone so now wait for the next batch of flowers.
