what a lovely home, and the garage seems as big as the house!
Do you have a nice large porch at the back, where you could sit and have a meal outside?

jackwv

Jean with all that is around you, I would not worry about power washing. Do that on a cloudy cool day and head now to the beach.

FlaJean

The house is larger than it looks, but what I love most are the two bay windows in the back.  One in the master bedroom and one in the dining area that looks out on the backyard.  The only problem is the backyard needs some love.  The house stood empty for several years before the family sold it.  That garage was really great when we moved in.  We were able to unpack without boxes everywhere in the house.

angelface555

I really like the windows on the right in the victorian style!

Shirley

Neat house, Jean!  I "wish" I could build a new house that was half garage & half house with the tall part of the garage & house having a wall that allowed the RV to park inside the garage with full hook ups (power, water & sewer) so it could be used for a guest house.  The short side of the garage would be fine for a little town car.  Sort of an "A" frame with family room/kitchen combined & bedroom & bath on the short side.  Just 2 big rooms for the house & if in KS, a basement for shelter from storms.  I know it wouldn't suit everyone but would be perfect for me.... at least as far as I can think today.  :uglystupid2:

Bubble, my parents added a big double garage onto one side of their house, had doors on both front & back & had screens made for both doors so they could put folding tables in the garage for large family reunions & seat everyone (without bugs).  They had a detached garage behind & put stone from front garage to back so could drive their cars through & leave driveway for guests.  At the same time they added the garage they added same size bedroom & bath on the opposite side of the house "for their old age".  Mother lived to 84 & Dad to 95, they were never old enough to use that room, still enjoyed their upstairs as long as they lived. My niece now owns the house.  Great place to grow up, the house sat on 2 "lots" and they bought 5 more joining ones and 2 across the street for a garden (was right after WWII so gardens were important back then).  They had all the lots platted separately so could be sold without extra trouble, but kept one nearest the house so had a huge yard to take care of.  Mother had flowers everywhere!  None of us siblings wanted the house but glad it stayed in the family.

Jean, happy you found such an inviting place and know you will have flowers all over before long, and it will fit you to a "tee".  Looks like a winner to me, garages are SO worth the space!  Our house also spreads out on the back with bay window on the front.... a room used only for storage for seasonal stuff out of the RV, just close the door and don't look inside.   ;)

JeanneP

Jean. Looks like a nice size house . Easy to take care of. The houses do look very close together though. Over on the left side.  Here in Illinois. Maybe not Chicago but homes have to be 14 ft away on both sided.  I remember the first one we built was on a small lot. 50ft frontage and 150 . House could only be 45ft front. Good thing next to my best friend.  and hers was very small.  Now looks like they just did a new paint job on it. I like blue and white. Perfect for Florida. Are you going to put flower plants in between the evergreens?

Jean, a lovely looking house.  I'm anxious to see what you do with gardening now - and for the birds too.

Beverly

Very nice home, Jean! I love the bay window. Take your time getting settled. We have a two car garage and I remember it was quite awhile before we could put the car in there.  :)

Angelface - That's a good picture. I think taking selfies involves some practice. The kids all seem to be experts at it!

Jack - Beautiful flowers at Oglebay. I miss the tulips and daffodils in Spring. That's one of the trade-offs we made.........frigid winters in Vermont with tulips in Spring or no shoveling and flowers year round.  ;)

Thank you, Beverly, that was nice of you!

I think it's ironic that we had about 1.9% precipitation, ie snowfall this winter. Perhaps Florida and Alaska have more in  common than one would think?

I wasn't aware I was taking a selfie but now I hear there are special tripods or sticks for them. I do not know if I think society has gotten a bit too narcissist or not. Especially since there was I in a restroom trying to get a good picture of myself! LOL

Shirley

I've been listening to TV & radio & storms keep moving in and on... the wind has been strong so before it got dark I zoomed the camera in on the tree down by the river that has wisteria growing to the top.... to see if branches were breaking off.  It is so heavy (the wisteria) and I keep expecting to see the tree toppled over... I was surprised to see wisteria blooming all over.  I couldn't get a very good shot since rain was blowing in the door I opened, so hope it is still pretty tomorrow.  The storms just keep rolling up from OK but MY HOUSE & RV haven't had any damage so far. Lots of people having problems with street flooding, all the usual places since Wichita is not prepared to handle lots of rain at one time.  My sympathy to all at risk this night.  Here is a shot of the ill timed wisteria.... every year when it blooms it has to struggle with weather.

FlaJean

Nice photo Shirley.  Wisteria is a hardy plant and doesn't take a lot of care but it sure can take over as it has in that tree.  Hope your storms are gone and the sun is shiny again.  :)

Shirley

Thanks, Jean, when I got the wisteria start from my parents neighbor, Dad thought I would be sorry.  First I wanted to plant it on the fence but got a loud "NO" from my husband & neighbor said it "could lift a fence out of the ground"... so put at the base of a dead hawthorn tree in a corner of the yard.  It went wild & was like a big purple slushy one morning... next time I looked the tree & all was laying on the ground.  No roots on that dead tree & didn't take much wind to dump it.  I have been digging up starts ever since & moving to the river.  Anything to help hold the bank in place.  It is cloudy today but I did walk down to the bank & guess all that rain just soaked in, the river is not up.  More to come tomorrow... trees & grass loving it.

jackwv

Shirley good to see you post, was worried about those storms.

Shirley

Thanks, Jack, only damage I can see is under the sweet gum tree... looks like someone took a bat to the leaves, but did not strip it... just quite a few on the ground.  Rain soaked in the ground, was needed so badly.  I did wash the RV yesterday morning, to get all the bugs off so I could take pics to prove it does not have any dings or damage ... and it still doesn't!     We didn't do anything from about 3:00 pm until this morning, watching TV storm news.

Shirley.  What made me think you lived up in the North West. Washington State area  Just noticed you are Kansas. Didnt you at one time have to take your New Motorhome over to Indiana to have it worked on? I wondered why you had to take it so far.

Western Joan from Norm's B&T lives in N.W. Washington State.

Shirley

My daughter used to live in Seattle, JeanneP, probably talked about it a lot.  My RV did go back to the factory but they "sent" someone to pick it up & bring it back, had it a month, added nearly 2,000 miles on it & not only didn't repair everything on the list.... they would not extend the warranty for the time it wasn't used my me!  I wouldn't recommend this brand to anyone, not just a lemon but not satisfied with how it was built or how they took care of problems.  I really objected to someone else driving what I paid for plus towing their vehicles behind it all those miles.  Ah, well, sometimes we do dumb things.   :uglystupid2: :crazy2: :idiot2:

Shirley.  I don't know about how you feel on the Service in the US anymore.  Seems to be getting like no men interesting in working.

Well I got the plumber here for the pipes and other things thought would get done. Big company.  He came at 11 am. Today  About 11:45 left to get a piece of short pipe at the shop. Now 1:45 and not come back.  All his tools are here and lots of things taken apart.. Here i am waiting to leave and most of the day gone.  I figured to go ahead. Get to most experience. Guess no better than the everyday handyman.

They price one pays for Moterhomes, Auto. most any kind of service and never done right. This one today suppose to be replacing a pipe job done new 6 months ago. Another company. The put wrong size and filled up space with Putty. Not it dried and so that is one of the leaky places.  Thank goodness I have never been a drinker.

I'm here to defend the American worker, at least the one I had today.  Tom sleeps in the lower level beside the furnace room and heard the furnace making odd noises so he turned off the furnace.  I called for service this morning and was told a man would be here between 12:30 and 1 pm.  He came at 12:28!  He replaced some part on the furnace and it was under warranty so all I paid for was labor.  The man was finished in a half hour, he and his work were clean and we had heat again.  I know all repairmen aren't that good, but this one was.

Not having experience with foreign workers, I can't comment as to whether they're good or bad, but I suspect they are just as qualified and/or unqualified as those in the US.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

MaryAnn.  I also have the best furnace men.  They put the new one in about 3 years ago. I call for winter and summer check ups and out when promised.  Unless a part needed they charge very little.

Now in the middle of checking for water leaks. My bill so high this month. 3 times usual.  We are computerized and water company insist if it registers past their reading on the outside of house then my problem. So far after finding a plumber he has found nothing other that loose connections . Having him install all new Drains, Taps in both bathrooms. Under the Bathtub. What a job. Connections so rusty . hard removing.  This man is a good worker though very slow.  Was suppose to be back today noon or one oclock. Not seen him yet.  So have to leave. That is what I don't like. Not keeping right time.  Not being patient is a problem with me.

Don't know what this plant is, but it is in the front garden of our new house.

FlaJean

Jeanne Lee,  We used to post occasional garden photos in the Garden Forum.  Is that still allowed???

Shirley

Beautiful baby, Sandy... and I remember the ones you posted of your kids or grands?  ... they were also extra pretty.

Jean, I don't know what it is but have seen it both here in KS & in MO.  That plant is especially colorful, knew it wouldn't be long before the bug got you & you would be "growing" things.  Does it feel like "home" yet?

jackwv

Jean that is a pretty bush, no help with identifying, I just know grass.   Lots on google image that look like it.

JeanneP

Jean.  Now is that bush one that just comes out in Summer or is it a Evergreen?  Beautiful one. Looks more like leaves and not just like mine that has yellow buds first and then turns into a dark green bush.  Yours is a keeper.
