Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Not so bad falling on carpet, but more fearful when falling on concrete or stone, although any fall at our ages are a definite worry and concern, more so if we have an illness that causes fall after fall....
Oh Jack, I know you would not swap your darling Mimi for the world, in no way did she intend on throwing you onto the ground, bless her... :smitten:

Shirley...I hope when you mention fall, it wasn't a recent one...you did right on checking it over with your Doctor, same as when I took a fall onto concrete patio at my old address, two plus years ago, and caught my head-ear on the terracotta flowerpot...The Doctor done the usual test of " who is our Queen? " " what year are we in? " of course I found it amusing, came away chuckling..." nothing wrong with my brain "
little did I realise that a short time afterwards I was to get my MRI scan result on my brain, unrelated to my fall of course...

Jack, I am so thankful you did not sustain any broken bones. I am 92 and so falling is part of my life it seems. The last one was bruised ribs and they take six weeks of pain to heal. I am sure your sweet Mimi felt sad for causing you to fall, and I pray you are healing nicely.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Joy

Jack,  so glad that you didn't hurt yourself any worse.  I have some trouble getting around, and I am so conscience of falling.  I tend to hold myself stiff and only makes my walking worse.  But, I sure don't want to fall .

I bet Oglebay is starting to look so pretty.  Can't wait for summer to be able to enjoy all your nice walks.

Be careful !!!

JeanneP   our park about the same.  A few tulips, but will probably be another 2 weeks.

June, Mimi probably thought it was a game and I have never yelled at her.  If I raise my voice then I feel bad.

Jackie, last few days have helped a good friend and neighbor with MS  Doing yard work and trimming his Pampas Grass.  I cut and he bags.  I can bend over but tough getting back up.   He said falling has not been a problem for him but very weak and low energy.   He lost a younger brother to it several years ago.  Give him credit, he keeps active, but said the last two months have been tough.  Hope the warm weather picks him up.

Joy I still have not used a cane I purchased but at the park move from one bench to another when legs start acting up.

The last fall I took was in Indps visiting Cousin Tom.  We went to a restaurant near his home and my great-niece, Erin, was with us.  As we came out of the building, I lost my footing and I really don't know why.  But I just gradually lowered myself to the pavement in front of many people.  One woman tried to help me up and I finally told her I had to get on my hands and knees.  When I got there, I put up my hands and the woman and Erin helped me up.  My only "ouchie" was where I had a small skinned area on my right elbow and I didn't know about that for several days.  That was what I meant about falling "right".  I slipped on the ice a couple of years before that and again, I fell "right", no bruises or broken bones.  But I sure scared everyone in both cases when I fell.

I tend to have falls for seemingly no reason which is why I purchased a lifeline. However, it only works in my building. The last fall I had was about a month ago when I just suddenly went backward and then I have little to no strength in pulling myself back up. I think I may lean too far to one side or back and the body just goes with it. I wonder if strengthening my core would help?

June Drabek

Patricia, same here with the life line, just works in our buildings. Last time I went over backwards I am thinking it may have been a TIA, as I don't remember the actual fall at all. Still healing with bruised ribs though.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Jack. Now can Mimi tell things from the tone of your voice? I have always said that animals can. Some people say no.  All the dogs I had could. If I sent them to their bed for something they would not come out until I said O.K you can come out now. Friends use to try to get them out even offering them something but wouldnt move.
My Birds, specially this one.  It is quiet but yell if it wants something. Specially if Idon't cover cage at 8PM. but if I yell Be Quiet to it it stops . Time I use to think my animals minded more than my children did.

Only had to tell animals one time and they remember. Not humans.

Animals connect the particular tone and sound of the word used with the action expected by humans at the time. It is the same as someone who doesn't understand the language.

June, I don't know what causes my falls, but earlier in life, with my disability, I would have balance issues and things like feeling I was falling over backward if I was walking up a steep hill. One time upon swimming across a gravel pit, I became somehow turned around and started off the long, 5 mile way. My mother started yelling to get my attention so I was able to follow her voice to shore. I was about 13 years old at the time.

Bubble thanks.   You and Don also look regal when smiling, but remember you are not 20 :)

Oh? We are not? MMmmmmm.... I was sure we were barely more!   :buck2:

JeanneP   as Pat stated it is more the tone and my body movement.   If I am stressed so would my pet be.  I never spank, or yell and even when I raise my voice it bothers me.  Mimi just jumped off the day bed and ran over to tell me time to go outside.  She need not speak to get her message across.

Jack my pup, when she really wants something, will rest her chin on my leg.    She gets the most pitfall look on her face.  My daughters Husky will come sit next to you, looking off into space, like she is ignoring you. Lol

jackwv

Hal yes they know how to get your attention, and reach your heart.

Mary Ann

Kendrick knows NO, spoken loudly.  Otherwise he seems to ignore anything that is said in regular tones.  He can hear when I am ready to get out of my chair, or he goes by my turning off the light at night, and he's at the door to this room, waiting for me.  He constantly walks in front of me, but when I go to the living area, he goes for the cabinet where I keep the kitty treats.  They are not dumb animals by any stretch of the imagination.

Farrah is always watching me, alert to any moves I might make. I think that goes back to her beginnings. She will come next to me and just stare. I say "What do you want now?" and she will say Win, or win-win, if it's food or a treat or else she will run to lie by her big cylinder if she wants you to play with her. I stick to the same words or tones and she knows what I mean. She is very alert, verbal and very active, very physical in movements.

Sarah used to go into the bedroom and lie on the bed when I went to brush my teeth in the evenings.  Farrah doesn't do that but sometimes I will awaken at night to find her sleeping behind me on the pillow. In the morning when she hears me moving about, she will come into the room and walk around and around me on the bed as if to say hurry up! After my shower, she dashes to her food dishes and waits impatiently for me to start my coffee and fill her dishes.

When I have company, she goes to her net carrier. If she is familiar with them, she will come out and visit but no grabbing or lifting allowed.

We awakened to a beautiful Passover morning here in Netanya. Weeks of preparation will culminate in Seder this evening in this joyous family celebration. Our places are set including a spot for the prophet Elijah. Chag Sameach everyone!

Peace indeed Jack.  I hope we never have a repeat of that terrible attack of 2002.  The memories are still fresh.

Bubble and look at what just happened in Egypt.   I am 86 and probably starting at the age of 6  have prayed for peace.   Guess we must settle for peace in our own hearts, and wonder how there can be so much hate on the part of extremists.

Jackie good post!

Yes, Christians in Egypt are the target now.  Horrible.

So cute, sandy...both of them!

Sandy, nice picture of Kelly and Fe.  Kelly looks too young to be a grandma.

Sadly, Bubble (and Don), my English comes with a Missouri twang... never learned another language and sorry I didn't all my life.  But my wish for good health and happiness is sincere, and may God Bless all, especially those in danger.  Such a pretty table and beautiful tradition, thanks for sharing the day with us.

Sandy, they are absolutely darling, both of your girls.  I made a trip to MO yesterday & back today, just over 600 miles.  Besides driving 300 miles today my Fitbit tells me I walked about 3 miles, 6,500 steps & 4 flights of steps.  This is one tired old lady.  Did not see a single wild dogwood blooming but did see some in the little town in the heart of Kansas City (Leawood) where we used to live.  Only one of the old trees blooming, we've been gone about 30 years so guess they were replaced.

We celebrated a joyful but deeply profound Seder last night in which everyone took part. However, the most meaningful part of the evening was Bubble's account of a Seder event which happened a block away from her home on March 27, 2002. Festivities were underway when the evening's tranquility was shattered by sirens of police, ambulances and helicopters: a Palestinian suicide killer had exploded a bomb in a room of around 300, killing and wounding scores of victims. Shortly after that there was a loud knock on Ethy's door and there stood about 20 so victims, bloodied and bleeding, clothing in tatters, some dumb from shock.
Bubble and her husband Benni received them warmly, literally emptied their drawers and closets to provide cover and clothing, and provide as much comfort and care as possible.
It was a Seder which no one will ever forget. But the most heart-warming part of this story is that every year since, at every Seder, a family member calls Bubble to express thanks thanks on behalf of her family  for this act of kindness and compassion. I was present when the call came in on Monday, and even though I could'nt understand a word, the tone of voice was all I needed to know what was being said.
