Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Shirley...
... nothing wrong with the photo size...What a lovely tranquil spot...I am glad you forgot your camera otherwise we maybe not seeing this photo taken unexpectedly of you surrounded with your family...

so_P_bubble

A wee bit too big, Shirley. I took the opportunity to brighten and sharpen it.

Thank you for fixing it, Bubble.... Hate to admit that my knee was so sore after the walk down to the river and another walk down to find the "root stimulator" bottle I lost ... not much sleep and having to use the walker to get around this morning. I didn't want "the kids" to notice I walked funny so I made matters worse. I had some volunteer little trees (couple maples & a cedar) that my gr-son is transplanting to the little woodsy area behind their house. Not sure where all these trees come from but MY woods is getting so thick the sun can't get to the tiger lilies I've planted all across that bank area. Only a few bloomed this year. I took the bottle of root stimulator down to the river, had the gr-son put sand in the bucket around the roots & added the water when we got back to the house. Hope they grow, my mother always said to keep air from the roots when transplanting & I have very good luck pulling them out of the ground "dry root" & instantly into a bucket of water with the stimulator. I already have a hole or pot for the little trees & cover with the water & stimulator as quickly as possible. Can't think of any trees I've lost doing it that way. I move those corn flowers around the same way. They pop up everywhere except where I want them.

Jackie, it didn't even come to mind that she was getting photos with ME in, I thought she was saving ones for the kids & to remind them how big the fish were. Naturally we all notice our own faults and since I haven't changed weight in the last 30 years, I didn't realize how much bigger the waist line had grown. I love those baggy shirts & before I wear them I run the narrowest elastic through the hem & leave it just so when coming out of washer & dryer it stays close to the body instead of "flaring" out. When I look into a full length mirror there is no waist line, but it shows in "real" life!  :(   Thanks for the comment, I certainly am getting a little dose of what you suffer every day, with not being able to stand without holding onto something. I did find I can close the walker like putting into the car.. and can maneuver around the house & my clutter better with it narrower.

Vanilla-Jackie

Shirley...
... its those mirrors that's gotten larger not us, well that's what i convince myself...

Shirley

Haha, Jackie, those photos don't lie! That is why I stay out of them as much as possible!

Bubble, I've been pondering how unfair life has been for polio victims ... met a few since finding Senior Net, & now here. Losing the joy or running during those free years as children and again when we've finished our jobs of growing up & raising families, when it is time to travel and enjoy, and polio strikes with those hateful limits of mobility. You never complain and from my view point, have got to be the life of every party you attend (daily living). I whine enough when I have a few off days so totally impressed with your attitude. Hugs to you & thanks for being such a rock for all of us. Thanks again for bailing my photo out!

so_P_bubble

Shirley, what would be the use of complaining? Yes there are times I wish... but that is quickly chased to the back of my mind and I go on.
The worse case I had was when a friend started free dancing at the sound of a favorite music. Her moves were so fluid, so perfect that I ached... But life is never perfect, right? So I said nothing, just applauded at the end.

I hope your knees get sorted out and stop hurting. Permanent hurt is debilitating, even when one gets more or less used to it.

FlaJean

I enjoyed seeing the photo, Shirley!  I can remember when that river looked pretty dry a couple of years ago in one of your pictures.

Bubble, how are you feeling these days?  I've gotten so lazy about posting photos.  Everything seems to be more of an effort anymore.

so_P_bubble

Thanks FlaJean, I manage. But I don't look forward to winter.  These multiple layers of clothing don't make life easier and I am very sensitive to cold. I suppose it is also from being born on the equator?

I wish for everyone to be safe from Corona.
I read "China Gives Unproven Covid-19 Vaccines to Thousands, With Risks Unknown..." and that makes me cringe.

Amy

Shirley, love the photo!! That is a great walking stick you have too. The children will look back on this and their walk with great grandma who is the Fish Whisperer.
The little one beside you has beautiful hair!! Thank you for sharing and thank you Bubble for resizing and brightening it up.

Shirley, what a great photo of you, your grandson and family! It's moments like these that will remain as memories and of family!

Shirley

Thank you all for the comments about "MY river and family (and overlooking tubby old Shirley). I did not try to hike down last night so with the cold front moving through, probably the fish have gone to deeper water for the winter. Knee will have to get better fast to make it down tonight.

Amy, that walking stick is one of many I talk my sons into cleaning off for me when in Colorado. Cas did it before they took over, and we used to take a walk, find a couple good sticks to bring back to camp, then we would carve faces or whatever. I discovered that it takes longer poles to hike along the creeks, they are a big help when climbing over the uneven rocks but have to be long enough to fit down into crevices. I always bring them home so we have to search next trip. I do have a nice pair of hiking poles my oldest gr-daughter gave me, but my kind of hiking (like down to the river) needs longer poles to lean on.

After Cas died I gave the kids the ones he made for himself but had one left that I gave his golf buddy when he stopped by the house one day to give me something of Cas' that he had. I had my sons put up hand rails on both side of the steps after that. The lady across the street was the main one that needed the help, but I find I use them (rails) all the time now, to play safe!

Thanks (again) for the nice comments about my world. That girl with the long hair (Amelia) is most like me of all my 3 kids, 7 grands & 7 great grands. My mother used those "rags" to wind the hair around to make spring like curls, she was fascinated by the coarse, thick hair from Dad's side. My sister's hair was lighter brown & fine, like Mom's. Did any of you have to wear those old kind of rag curlers?  Most of the time I got away with braids but when I got old enough, I started cutting my own hair!

Bubble, that string bean young man is Jace, the one maybe a year older than Aviv. All of a sudden he is stretching out like his father, 6'4". The new hair cut also makes him look older & thinner. He eats like a horse but runs it off, soccer games right now.

so_P_bubble

Jace is really tall! I think Aviv will also shoot up soon. Right now he is growing more "wide" but does not eat much: very fussy. Mainly rice or pasta!

Here he is yesterday, on Kipur night. With his bike, when there is no traffic at all in streets.

Jack wv...
...so good to see you and your Mimi again, if only by photo....All the best on you reaching a milestone of 90, you are looking good...Please give Mimi a hug and a kiss from me...

Bubble...
...it kind of gets embarrassing when our grands - great grands are now towering above us, as my grandson does, and his boy, my great grandson i am sure will soon be overtaking short old me too...

FlaJean

Bubble, thanks so much for posting the photo of Jack on his 90th birthday and Mimi.

Looking good Jack!  Wonderful to see you!

patricia19

Bubble, it's so lovely to see another photo of Aviv! He looks like he's enjoying posing with his bike!

And Jack, what a milestone and so good to see Mimi, still smiling!

Shirley

Oh, Bubble, so happy to see Aviv also comes up with those "gooney" faces! Every time Jace would see a camera he would give a forced smile/grin/smirk... until I told him that "only photos he would find when he got older and had kids was those silly faces he made!"  It actually made him stop & think and ever since we get at least ONE straight face & the rest "goonies". Wish the boys could know each other, I think they would enjoy each other's company!

:hb3:  :hb2:  :hb3: So good to see the photo of Jack & Mimi! We all miss you & your photos.  Are the trees starting to turn yet?  Sure wish you'd share some fall scenes with us!

Jack wv...
... two words i miss reading about, and viewing photos of, are " Mimi and Oglebay," please rethink about coming back in to post again, you have many friends in S & F's that would love to welcome you back...

so_P_bubble

Yes Aviv is growing and always 'making faces' when we look at him.

Here is the other man in the family.
Eitan decided to learn how to play the violin.  He has the long fingers for it!

Bubble, a very nice looking man. Is this your son who was in Asia or another?

Amy

Bubble,  Eitan is a nice young man.

Patricia,  think we call him EYE CANDY :)

it's my son who was in Thailand for a few months and now back in London

patricia19

Thanks Bubble! I believed that was who it was. However, for some reason, I remembered him as looking different in another family photo where he was kneeling.

Beverly

Shirley - I don't think I commented but loved seeing the picture of you with your family. You should let them take more photos of you! None of us are picture perfect anymore.  :D  :D

Bubble - How old is Aviv now? He reminds me of my great-grandson Brody who is 11. Brody has also grown wider  :)  but he slimmed down a bit on their 250 mile Long Trail hike.

Your son is a good looking man. Glad to hear he's back in London.

So nice to see  pictures of Jack and Mimi. Happy 90th birthday Jack! You're looking good.

Aviv was 8 at Easter. His name means "spring" because he was born at the beginning of that season :)

I had to run some early morning errands, in the back end of town and I noticed that while the trees were bare, the shrubs still held on.
