Jack, I don't know many houses with more that a bathroom and separate toilet.  It's a luxury (and more work!) to have more. :)
I know here two families with 9 kids and only one bathroom.  Not even a bedroom for each kid, but 3 bedrooms only for them

Joy

Bubble,  when I was growing up,  my best friend, that I grew up with,  had  7 brothers and sisters all in a 3 bedroom house with only 1 bathroom.

We were almost inseparatable  and she spent a lot of time at my house and my mom used to say the family probably never even missed her when she would spend the night at my house.  And, also my mom used to joke about  her mother stringing up a clothesline very night for them to sleep and then cutting it down in the morning to wake them up.  They were a very close-knit family and I don't ever remember them ever complaining about how crowded they all were.   We are still friends after almost 80 years.

JeanneP

I was amazed when coming to the USA and seeing big families in suc h small houses. Even some with no bathrooms at all. In uk it seemed that only the Irish Catholic families had large families.

There were two large families in my schools, growing up. One was Catholic and one Mormon. One had sixteen children and one had nine. The Catholic family of sixteen lost some of the boys in Vietnam.

There were 14 kids in our neighborhood and we had lots of places to play.  Two families had four children each, one with three, we were two and one with one.  Kids who live in that neighborhood  today do not have the fields because they're all covered with houses.  Our house had two bedrooms and a single bath upstairs.  After Norm was born, he slept in the bedroom with my folks.  A few years after my mother died, my paternal grandmother came to live with us and she slept on a studio couch in the dining room until in a couple of years we added two rooms at the back of the house (one up, one down with a half bath downstairs).  Grandma had the downstairs room, I had the upstairs room and Norm moved to my old bedroom (he had been sharing the bedroom with Dad).  People did things like that 70 and 80 years ago, many people did.  One of the four-child families had all four kids sleeping upstairs, girls in one bedroom, boys in the other.  For years they had an outhouse, so did their next door neighbors.  The other four-child family lived in a renovated house that originally had one bedroom, probably an outhouse, but they added a bedroom and bath; the boys slept in the unfinished basement and the girls in the new bedroom.  The three-child family had a big enough house to take care of everyone.  But that's the way it was back then.

My first husband was one of 14 - 10 boys and 4 girls.  They had one bathroom and three bedrooms.  They managed.

Now the kids are more spoiled: they want their own room, their own TV, etc. An era of surplus.

Hi Bubble
And their own smartphone and IPad.

You forgot to mention those games too and applications.

Most of you have seen photos of my Jessie.  This June she will be 15 years old, quite an age for a Golden Retriever.   Believe she has been well taken care of and she takes care of me.   Up until a year ago I would not feed her from the table, so she would not beg when I had guests.   This past year I now permit her to sit next to me and will give her scraps.  Look at her photo during lunch, would be hard to tell her no!

JeanneP

She still looks like a young dog in her photo's. They say you can tell a old dog by their eyes but hers look so bright still.  Would be hard with that look not to give her a little bite or two at the table.

Jack  Iwas saying in one of the other forums how all our Avatars are showing up so small.  You any idea as to why.  Mine was in last year and lost bigger. so were some of the others.
JeanneP

Andie

Jack  I see a lot of love in Jessie's face.  No way could I eat a meal without sharing with her.

jackwv

JeanneP   I have no idea why, when I want a closer look I hit Ctrl and use the wheel on the mouse or plus sign.   For my part I prefer it the small size, do not see the wrinkles.

Andie thanks, will have to post a young Jessie with that same Golden Look.

Shirley

Awwww, there's my girl!  She is a beauty & looks great!  Glad you have relented and letting that baby have a taste of people food, Jack.  My son's dog has always been allowed people food but now she is on a strict diet, no fats at all.  She has to take zinc pills because of something that made her fur around her eye fall out (fine now).... tests showed low on zinc. I think the dogs enjoy sharing a meal, no matter what it is & I don't think I'd like to share their dog food......yuck.

When we were in CO last fall, Andy's dog was refusing to eat her pills (he had her convinced they were a treat for a while.  ;)  )  So she wasn't allowed a bite of my biscuit or whatever I was eating until she ate her pills (4).  I finally convinced him that the canned white chicken I kept for the cats ( people food) wouldn't hurt her since it was water packed & not oil.  Sure enough, she slurped those pills down right along with a spoon of that chicken... and no side effects.  Jack, that canned chicken makes good people sandwiches, too.

One of the men demonstrating used just a tiny bit of mayo along with lots of Mrs.Dash original & one squirt of lemon... I add chopped celery... so good on club or Ritz crackers!  The cats like the juice so I don't drain for them.

June Drabek

Jack, I'm glad you allow Jessie to share your food now. It is good for both of you to be close. Jessie does look very youthful for her size and age. I remember pictures of her and her buddy romping through an area where they could run loose.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

so_P_bubble

Jack you do look younger every day! :)
What a great photo of your companion.  Jessie is a real "model", could have made a career.

jackwv

Shirley thanks.   Jessie is spoiled, or has me trained now.   I would not let her sit at the table with company since they felt guilty and I limit her food.  With pills I would coat with peanut butter.

June thanks, We both miss Zoe her companion.  Jessie no longer romps but will sometimes trot when I get ahead of her on a walk. She is seldom on leash and hearing going, so I have to pay attention.

Bubble she came from a show line, and both Zoe and Jessie were lookers, here is an old one of the two taken several years ago, Jessie on the left.

Jeanne Lee

Jack, it looks as though you moved or deleted the picture of Zoe and Jessie.   :(

Mary Ann, there is a limit of 300 characters in the signature box and what you have posted is more than 300.

Rick has posted  revised code which may help you.  This shorter one seems to have worked.

Mary Ann I was unable to find the photo on my computer but still had it in the discussion so I was able to get a copy.   Not posting it again since I posted the framed photo.  Bubble thank you, only Jessie now and she gets all my attention.

Mary Ann

Jeanne Lee, I would gladly put in what Rick has substituted, however, again, I cannot delete what is there.  No matter how I try to delete it, it won't go away.  So I am going to leave what is there as they do go to Grand Haven and the weather.  I wish I had the WU, but I'm going to leave things as they are for the time being.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

How did that happen?  I now have the WU weather.  Thanks, someone.

Jeanne Lee

It just needed to have the number of characters reduced and Rick's latest link does just that - so now it works.

Mary Ann

Jeanne Lee, thank you very much.

Maybe we should incorporate Tel Aviv into the USA so that mine would show as well!  :2funny:

JeanneP

MaryAnn.  wonder if you are getting the Storms like we are today. Just no let up for the rest of the week they say.  It does look rough at Grand surf. I think that someone is running the tractor thing over the beach part.
