Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Good photo, Rammel.  Looks like a Northern Mockingbird, according to my bird book.  Catbird is gray and has black on the top of its head.

We no longer have bird feeders, Jack.  Every time we keep our daughter's two little dogs, they would eat fallen bird seed and get a stomach upset.  So, we decided after moving into this new place we wouldn't put any feeders up.

jackwv

Jean I recall your saying you did not have the feeders in your new home, but know in the prior home you had a great setup and posted photos taken from the home by both you and Larry.  Never thought of the bird seed making the dogs sick, I just thought the poor birds would not have a chance around my Golden's.

Here are my last photos from last Monday and the tribal hall.

This window display shows some items for daily use by an Inuit family from the decorative hanging, bearskin, carved birch and ivory toys and fishing gear, to the cone shaped fishing basket slash trap.

Household items, moosehide and beaded clothing, note the beaded rifle case; decorative items and dolls for sale, trade or for storytelling. Note the large beaded artwork above the wall hanging by the information poster.

Potlaches for special events and to honor the dead. Often it may take up to a year or more to save up and acquire a number of gifts for guests necessary to provide honor to the deceased. Families would beggar themselves to show honor.

An average selection of the type of gifts to honor the deceased by giving away to guests. For an example, if you have one hundred guests, you must have enough that each guest has been shown honor for being there and also honoring the deceased by the bounty given away.

Athabaskan, moosehide beaded dress, birchbark cradleboard, birchbark baskets, beaded decor, and rifle case.

The eagle plaque is totally beadwork, also fur, (bear?); parka, birch bark baskets, moosehide footwear, gloves, etc. And that's all from my Monday![attachimg=1]

Patricia, while we were being driven back to our quarters from Denali, our driver had a woman (Native American?  Eskimo? I don't remember) tell us about the Potlatch.  We did not see pictures of anything, so it was interesting to see your picture of what was made for the Potlatch.

wow that showing honor really goes to extremes.
I loved all the pictures and learned about a different culture than the one around me where I was born

Joy

Nice pictures, Patricia  and especially nice to hear about the different customs from your area.

Angel, what interesting photos and information about those native people.  Thanks for sharing with us.

Joy, I don't know if I answered your question in the other forum so will answer it here.  The grandson with cancer lives in Calif. not MD.  I do have a grandson in Annapolis.

I was at the beach again today and took a picture of the sunning bed that one can hire as wekk as umbrellas, chairs, tables.

angelface555

Thanks for this photo Bubble. It clarified it for me. Here we call those loungers. Now if you could huff and puff and blow really, really hard to send some of that heat my way....puleeese!

JeanneP

Bubble. Before in your photo's the beach did not seem to be crowded. This one seems like the people just all group together. I couldn't stand them that close.
People seem to really like to soak up the sun there.  They have talked so much about skin cancer here in the past few years that I think some of stopped the sun bathing.  I know my granddaughter really covers up now.

Jean, I am so sorry to hear about your grandson.  And, being so far away sure doesn't make it any easier, either.   I am sure it is hard for you to be so far away,   My thoughts go out to you and your family.

Don't you have family in Silver Spring also?   Weren't you from Silver Spring before you moved to FLorida?   How long have you been in Florida now?

I have a nephew and his wife who have been full time campers for almost 11 years now, and he just wrote me that they are giving up traveling and have bought a place in Citrus Ridge,  which is down on Rt. 27  before you get to Haines City.  They have been retired all those years and just love going to Disney World.  They go several times a week .  Their 2 sons and families visit several times a year, so I figured that is where they would finally settle. But, they have traveled all over the US.  I am so happy that they got that opportunity and still are young enough to enjoy a good life.

Yes, what a difference between last week and this one: many more people, but the weather was warmer too. There were lots in the water as well.

I live not far from the beach and it is a real entertainment to see people trying to find a parking place, trying to squeeze between two cars when there is no chance they could fit in.

FlaJean

Joy, we were in Ocala for 28 years and here in Niceville for a little over a year.  Our son who has MS is still in Silver Spring.

Linedancer, how is your grandson?  I remember that he was in the Fort Walton Beach hospital several months ago.

Nice beach photo, Bubbles.  Our tourist season will be in full swing soon and the beaches will be full of people.

My usual walk today and took to a lower trail (lots of steps)  I spotted this small tree I like, the park has several.
It is a Fringe Tree or Glancy Graybeard.   It now has beautiful blossoms (fringe)   and when the fringe is gone it is still a pretty little tree.   Photos of the tree and fringe closeup.

Mary Ann

Jack, a pretty and interesting tree.  I once had the start of a purple fringe tree but I'm not sure how or when it came to an end.  It never did acquire any height.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

Now that is a beautiful tree. Does it stay so full all summer.  Would be nice in a yard but I bet a mess when fall comes. I have never seen one around here.
Was trying to work in the front yard today but the sun got to me. Alergies still bad so back indoors. Bird is out on the Porch so maybe go out there with a book.. Is it up around 78/80 today. No breeze. I believe that I am getting where I can't get out in the hot weather anymore. Not to work in it.  Time to start hiring some things done. Not cut grass for years. Bushes also.  Use to be no problem doing all that.
JeanneP

jackwv

MaryAnn they are not a large tree, possibly 15 feet, for decoration.

JeanneP   they drop the fringe then have green leaves and do not appear to be much of a clean up.

JeanneP

I wondered what that group of big leaves were. Really large arn't they. Should be easy to clean up.

Jack WV...
...you are so lucky to have such a glorious place to dog walk....the varying changes of scenery, the greenness, the changing colours, the seasons, I can imagine that however many times you go there you are always finding something new...I agree about the tree, looking close up it has a lovely pale green fringe, or fan...

FlaJean

That is a beautiful tree, Jack.  We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday with our youngest daughter and husband.  Today we're enjoying a quiet day.  The weather is beautiful.

Lindancer

FlaJean, I am a little late for two things, you asked about Jesse a long ways back. He has come a long ways in a year, when they told him he most likely would never walk again.  After being in a rehab in Orlando, He has gone from a walker to a cane. All the prays in here, I think helped.
Also I enjoyed the pictures of Emerald Bay, the first time I walked along that water front, We could not get over the beautiful clear color. Also there was very few buildings along the water front in Destin. When Dennis moved into Blue Water Bay, there was no bridge.

My Blue Daze is really blooming this year.

jackwv

Jean, they look great.  Would brighten up a blue day.

Mary Ann

Jean, the Blue Daze is beautiful.  I think I have not heard of it before - or maybe I've forgotten since a previous year.  On the other hand, you may not have had it at Ocala.

My little blue flowers bloomed and are done but now the myrtle and vinca are in blossom.  Our volunteer landscaper and her husband worked on my front area this afternoon and it is much neater now.  Between her and my next door neighbor, all of the weeds have disappeared.  I have a fear that some of my little bulb flowers have disappeared permanently, but I can't get out or down to work the garden so I must take whatever happens.  I do appreciate what others are doing for me.
