Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I read everything and it all brought home memories!  Thanks for all the floral info!  When we were kids, Sunday was "lets" take the long way to Gramma'a farm".  And we saw lots of growing things along the way.  My Dad grew up on a farm and he knew what was what when we asked questions.  And when we got to the farm, we had to walk all over the place and see what was growing there!

Now I'm ready to hit the haystack!  Cooper doggie will be arriving a bit before 6 tomorrow morning and I need to be up and attem by 5 a.m.  Day starts early and that means it has to end early too!  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way!  And don't forget to tell us how you did that!  We NEED to know!

Yes I found on my windows 10 when I open the computer and on the desk top is a bar that immediately allows me to search the internet so that I have internet service immediately even if I have no intentions of using the internet and simply want to access one of my word documents. And yes, talking to the tech service guy, it is in this case Google who has a version of AI that is backed up by Microsoft's version of AI that makes changes to our computers - He did get rid of the bar and immediate connection to the internet for me - but according to Will, the tech, he says we will not be able to download 11 without a new computer - he does not sell computers - also the plan is not to service 10 past November

Here, here! Microsoft isn't the only bunch that want to force us into AI control (subservience?) in the name of security and questionable life-improvements for the masses. Do I sound way to pessimistic? Think 1984.

Addendum to the previous rant over. Time to spend quality time with my kitties. Have a good evening everyone.

I've just discovered a book that looks promising. It is The Paris Express by Emma Donoghue, just released 3/18/2025. She is an author I never heard of, but it seams she has quite a few books out. My online libary lists 14 of them. Has anyone read this author. I've added it to my list. Maybe I'll get to it by the time I am 200.

I am going to have to renew my latest library read because I've only gotten into the second chapter. Haven't read much for the last several weeks. Shame on me.

MarsGal - I get those attempts to install that 365 stuff, but so far have managed to avoid it. I believe "Windows Defender" came with Win-10. I'm one of those that have chosen to REMAIN with Win-10, and not update to W-11. They have recently ruined my Calendar, by forcing their version on me. So far it doesn't work right for me, and I have found an alternate. It looks like Microsoft is trying to get themselves in trouble again.

I am getting a little miffed at Microsoft again. I have found them sneaking some new apps onto my computer that appear to be designed to work with 365 which I do not use, have never used. I don't even like that One Drive business. They've been busy renaming some apps too. Now I find, on my Task Bar, Microsoft Defender. I did not put it there, and if I click on it, it insists that I need a Microsoft Account (which I have) AND 365 Personal. Oh, and of course, they want money for it. I wonder if they will be offering Microsoft Defender to those who do not want 365 in any way shape or form or if they will tie it to 365 to squeeze more money out of us and to keep/gain more control over Windows users unwilling to go to Windows 11. BTW, I did hear that they are not going to allow anyone to install Windows 11 without them having a Microsoft Account now. I didn't know you could run it without having an account. Well, tightening control on the Windows 11 users then too. How many people actually install Windows without creating a Microsoft account anyway?

Rant over.

Lemon Curd Tart From Betty Crocker

Prep Time 30 min  Total 4 hr 20 min Servings  12  Ingredients 11

Ingredients:

Crust:

    3/4 cup butter, softened
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour

Filling:

    1 cup sugar
    3 tablespoons cornstarch
    1 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
    1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
    2 egg yolks
2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
Fresh assorted berries and sweetened whipped cream, as desired

Instructions:

    Step 1

Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 9-inch tart pan with 1-inch rim and removable bottom with cooking spray.

    Step 2

In large bowl, beat 3/4 cup softened butter and 1/4 cup sugar with spoon until well mixed. Stir in flour until      blended (dough will be crumbly but can be pressed together). Pat and press dough very firmly on bottom and up sides of tart pan. Bake 14 to 18 minutes or until crust is set in center but still pale. Cool 15 minutes.

    Step 3

In 2-quart saucepan, mix 1 cup sugar and the cornstarch. Gradually stir in water, lemon zest and lemon juice until smooth. Cook and stir over medium-high heat. Heat to boiling; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly, until mixture is bubbly and thickened. Remove from heat.

    Step 4

In small bowl, beat egg yolks with whisk. Gradually beat about 1/2 cup hot mixture into egg yolks. Gradually stir yolk mixture into hot mixture in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture starts to gently boil. Cook 2 minutes longer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in 2 tablespoons butter. Pour over cooled baked crust. Cool at room temperature 15 minutes; refrigerate at least 3 hours until set.

tip 1
To make 1 1/2 cups whipped cream, place medium deep bowl and beaters in freezer or refrigerator to chill. Place 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream and 1 tablespoon powdered sugar in bowl. Beat on low speed until mixture begins to thicken. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, then beat on high speed until whipped cream forms soft peaks.

tip 2
To serve lemon custard tart slices, cut with sharp knife, cleaning knife blade after each cut.

tip 3
Wondering how many lemons to pick up for this Lemon Curd Tart recipe? 1 medium lemon yields about 3 tablespoons juice and 2 to 3 teaspoons grated lemon zest.

I just call them Lupines. The ones you have in Texas are mostly or wholly Lupinus texensis. Oh, and it is your state flower. I didn't know that. It seems that Texas likes bluebonnets so much they consider all bluebonnets that grow in Texas the state flower not just L. texensis. Until I saw a nature program focusing on the Western area, probably 30 or 40 years ago now, I thought Lupines were a European Alpine plant, nor did I know they come in other colors. We apparently have another variety (L. perennis) "imported" from the western states that grow wild now in Western PA. The park service is keeping an eye on them because they consider them invasive because they are not native to PA. Now look what you started, Barb. I've been cruising the plants native to PA pages. Our state flower, BTW, is Mountain Laurel. It is related to rhododendron.
