Just to hold us off until Joan is "back in the saddle".
Let us know what you're having for breakfast. And don't forget to leave some in the hidey hole! :D
It was the first camping experience for Jed.
As soon as he had pitched his tent, he went for a hike in the woods. In about fifteen minutes he rushed back into camp, bleeding and dishevelled.
"What happened?" asked a fellow camper.
"I was chased by a black snake!" cried the frightened Jed.
The camper laughed and retorted, "A black snake isn't deadly."
"Listen," groaned Jed, "If he can make you jump off a fifty-foot cliff, he is!"
I posted this in last weeks renderings, I am re-posting cause I am not sure anyone will go past the link posted.......
Good Morning Everyone!
Cloudy, as usual, morning. But we will have sunshine later along with highs around 80.
Hopefully Joanie is feeling better this morning. I hope they can wean here from the ventilator soon. Bless her heart I know she is so tired of all the machinery.
Gloria, spring is really here for us. Nearly all the trees are fully leafed out, well except, the Chinese Pistachio in the front yard and the Pecan tree next door. Maybe they know something the others don't know.
Have been invited to a birthday party for one of the men in my group this afternoon, he is 85, his birthday is on the same day as my wife's. It is at a local BBQ joint, buy your own, cake and entertainment furnished...LOL Suppose to be a surprise, but don't know how that is going to work out.
Amy, nice to hear you got a day off and can loaf around with your sewing. Bet you find something to get into through, knowing you. Hope your hubby is improving, I know he is tired of his treatments (and all the junk that goes with them). Hope you pup is doing well too. (also, whatever). LOL
All this talk of using good grammar has me spooked.
Has anyone heard from Jackie? Hope she hasn't had a setback.
Lloyd, you need to get out there and start working on your garden and the weight will roll off. I am surprised you put on any weight, having to work the cattle and other farm duties.
Larry, sorry to hear your wife is having a hard time of it. I know how it is hunting for a comfortable spot, sometimes you just cant find it and of course at night your mind starts working overtime which just makes it worst. She might want to try the Lidocane patches, I know they do stop most of the pain, but it can break through when you try to do to much. You can only wear one 12 hours then leave them off for 12 hours. But there seems to be some residual carry over when you have it off.
Got to finish up dressing for church. Everyone have a great day.
Thanks, Jeanne Lee. Another one of my old graphics and it is nice to see it again.
I haven't had breakfast yet but it will be cinnamon rolls. Big and gooey....just the way I like them. ;)
I sent you a PM. Let me know what you decide.
Good Sunday Morning Everyone, from the cloudy and cool, but dry, rocky coast of Maine.
March/April are never spectacular Months here... But come May, YAHOO!
Thanks Jeanne Lee for opening up a new spot for the Soda Shoppe. You need to close the door on the old one, so no one can post there..
All is well and you are doing a Great Job Jeanne...
Have a good day, Everyone and Joanie I hope you are feeling better today.
Sandy
Sandy, thanks for the reminder to lock the door. I just went and did that. :)
Phyllis, I have quite a few of those older graphics and so long as you don't object I'll keep using them while Joan is away. :)
Good Morning, Everyfriend,
Jeanne Lee, thank you for opening a new Shoppe. Surely hope and pray that Joan can successfully come off the ventilator as planned.
Granddaughter Emily stayed over last night. She is working a tournament at the ASA Softball Stadium in OKC and my house is closer than that of her parents. She was up and out the door at 7:30 this morning.
I'm going to a friend's 97th Birthday party this afternoon. Mary has more "git up and go" than I do - and will be giving the program at the next meeting of the P.E.O. chapter to which we both belong. She has published two books of her poetry and I'm sure she'll have some new ones to share this time. Some are inspirational but most are humorous with just a bit of "bite" to them.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.
Good Morning Lloyd, I have been awake since 6.a.m., but it takes several hours for me to really come alive. First thing is a wake up call to take a pill. Then I do all my leg and foot massage while in bed, then comes more pills and a b.p. check. I am alive, so I turn on the coffee machine, plop down in my recliner and do all the morning prayer readings and sing a hymn. Then comes breakfast, and gradually make my way to the computer to annoy all of you. I am dressed but will skip Church again today. Not alive enough to join the rest of the human race…just you poor souls that can always delete me.
Phyllis, thank you for the delightful Spring graphic and Poetry. You have made my day !!!!!!God Bless You !
Amy, You sound very content this Sunday morning, and I know your day will be just what you want it to be, so sew, sew, sew.
Larry, you sound "up and at 'em" this Sunday morning. Good for you ! I am plodding, but thankful to be able to do that. No plans at all for my day, just one step at a time.
Gloria, our sun is shining brightly at the moment, no real weather change till possibly Tuesday, some rain. I hope.
Jeanne Lee, thank you for this mornings new weekly greeting. Our Bis would be so proud of both you and Phyllis. I wish I had your talents.
Hal, say a prayer for those of us that will not be going to Church this morning. Two weeks in a row for me now, but the body says, "stay home !" so I obey. Are you planning to attend the B. party for your friend ?
Callie, my neighbor across the hall is over a hundred years now, and she is up and dressed and down for meals every day of the year. Makes me ashamed if I decide to just "rest". At the same time, it would be foolish to push the body too far and end up on the floor again. So we do what we can, while we can.
Jeanne Lee, beautiful graphic. Did you say it's from Phyllis' collection? I like the poem that goes with it. I also thought the one you posted last night was pretty.
Dot and I did our "usual" this morning - church, OTB. While eating, we gab and gab and gab, with rarely the same topic each week. This morning we split a lemon pie and a tuna melt. Those keep us going until mid afternoon.
Tom drove for Uber last night and said he had many drivers last night who were celebrating St Pat's Day yet.
Even thought cool, I think it will be a nice day.
Mary Ann
JeanneLee, that is the perfect graphic to pick of Phyllis's first day of Spring tomorrow and I would dearly love to see the crocus blooming.
The day flew by, and yes June and Hal I did do some sewing.I was going to put the binding on the Irish chain but need my wits about me when I do it so maybe tomorrow. VON came latter than normal but that is fine, Hal, the chemo is starting to wear him down but thankfully he does go and lay down. As for Golden Girl she is so happy she doesn't have to wear the t shirts! Healing nicely and I hope that is it!!!
June, would never delete you! You amaze me with all that you do and you do know that God hears all prayers, no matter where you are.
Larry, does your wife print off patterns from the internet? They do have some lovely free ones.
Better go tidy up the kitchen, just like my sewing room someone makes a mess!!!
We are feeling a bit better today and visiting was fun. When it comes to conversation, I can't walk away :D
Amy: I have heard of the quilts for several diseases and also want to mention quilts for the homes set up for trafficked children - it is an ugly fact but not well known. My gratitude to you and your friends for your lovely gifts.
My laptop was going nuts but seems to have corrected things now - how I don't even know. It sure is disappointing to have so many scams coming in via the 'puter and phone. Now there is more Fake News that even gets to stations and is repeated.
I have to cook some flank steak before we leave and have forgotten how to do this so the good old search gave me a new recipe.
There have been some grass fires in our home area and that seems too early in the season. Here in Tucson, the temps are more than ten degrees above normal - just before it was below so it is a see-saw happening.
Carol, I'm sure you had a good time with your guests, even if you were not in the best of health. I'm so glad you were able to host them and enjoy it so much.
It has been a nice quiet Sunday here in my area. Mild temps, nice fresh air coming in my windows. I have had several longer walks today, and plan to go down for supper later. Chili and cornbread..one of my favorites.
Tomorrow my daughter in Love Dori will be flying back to her young family in Idaho. She will spend a week with them. She just adores her little Grandchildren, and misses them being so far away.My Grandson...the little ones father, will be leaving on a Missionary trip to Honduras the end of this month. Life is sure different than when I raised my little ones.
I'm praying along with the rest of you for our beloved Bis/Joan. The S.S. is just not the same as when she is with us, and I'm sure she will be over-joyed when she can come back to her home again. She has such a loving family, so I know they will be happy when she is able to enjoy her home again.
Good evening and Good night, as it is almost bed time, I have had a busy day. I am doing ancestry and one of my neighbors came in to help me, with a lot of hints. She has done her family tree. then I have spent the rest of the day. taking time out to eat etc.
Jeanne Lee, for the lovely graphic.
Jeanne Lee, thank you for filling in as much as you can for Joan. We do appreciate it. I know there's more to the job than the graphic, jokes and thoughts.
Mary Ann
June, yes we did go to the birthday party. Most of the guest was made of two different church's. Wayne attends one church and attends our bible study at our church. It was a really nice gathering.
Well it is my bed time so I will say a Good Night, God Bless and Sweet Dreams.
well I got involved in a good movie and let time get away. so it is time to say
good night and sweet Dreams. have a great day tomorrow.
Lloyd
wow everyone must be sleepy heads today. no one here since I posted good Night wishes last evening. Have a great day everyone.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone
First day of Spring today...hope from here on in the weather behaves. Before the month is out it wouldn't surprise me if we did get another storm or two.
A day of gathering here today ,need some fresh fruit ,milk and hubby needs his meds refilled.
Lloyd, I hope you have a great day with no mishaps.
Carol, that is so sad, I can't imagine people would do that to kids.
Enjoy your day everyone..
Good morning Amy I was just talking to peter alias roley in England and I was showing him some things I built in the house And the cameras went off both the portable one and the one in the Laptop.I do not know how I turned them off or how to turn them back on? need help.Have a good day.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, woke early so here I am. Have an appointment this morning so glad I did wake early. See my eye doctor to see in the eye drops are helping my dry eyes.
JEANNE LEE thank you for helping out here. With all the snow still here a Crocus would not be able to get through it. Hope the weather guessers are right and we have seen the last snowfall and spring will really be here starting today. Cute joke. My breakfast will be the same as usual, oatmeal with some fruit.
HAL supposed to warm up here today but still wearing winter jackets. Will be another month before things are starting to bloom here. Those patched do not help everyone, they did nothing at all for me. When I took the prescription to the pharmacy the druggist told me it was a waste of money, he was right. I can imagine JOAN is tired of the hospital by now and anxious to go home again. Hope that birthday party was a surprise yesterday.
PHYLLIS thanks for sharing your talent with us.
SANDY I agree, Mat is a beautiful month here in New England.
CALLIE one has to admire those in their 90's that keep going. There are several here, one is 99 and now visiting her daughter in California, the other is just about blind bur she is out walking laps around the parking lot every day.
JUNE now who would ever delete your posts? Not me for sure. We are waiting for it to warm up here so we can put winter coats away.
AMY those gremlins at work at your home making a mess for you to clean up again? Shame on them.
CAROL just saw on the news about a fire in Nebraska. Does seem early for those darn fires.
AMY I sure hope we have no more snow this year, well maybe a dusting at Christmas time but that is a long way off.
LLOYD sorry your camera quit on you while talking with Peter.
Good Morning Gloria.
well it must be female it works when it wants to , on and off again.
Good to see you hope you are fit as a fiddle today. I am going to go take my vitals and see if they think I am still alive. My memory is still not up to par.
we bought a juicer and eating healthier. don't waste the pulp either, put it in soups. one is beet root 3 green apples a cucumber and some honey . yummy.
Lloyd
It's a beautiful Spring morning here. A little chilly but will warm up by this afternoon.
I would never delete what you write, June. I enjoy your posts too much to deprive myself of that pleasure.
Thanks to everyone for saying that you liked the graphic. And thanks, Jeanne Lee, for digging it out of the archives and posting it here this week.
I OD'd on basketball yesterday. Duke lost but N. Carolina won so, as they say, you win some and you lose some. ;)
Take care and be well, everyone.
Hi everyone. The day has started out beautifully. I slept in this morning until after 8 am, something I very seldom do. I was so tired when I got home from Church yesterday that I put my sub in the refrigerator and had it later in the afternoon after resting for two hours plus. Walmart did have our order ready for pickup yesterday. I did watch some really good basketball games and now see that South Carolina beat Duke so will go on in the Tourney. They played too late to stay up and watch them in the win. Today I plan on attending my noon meeting and then at 4 pm Pat has an MRI if she can stand to lay on the table long enough. Tonight is our monthly men's meeting at Church but I have decided to not attend. We will likely eat out tonight after the MRI.
Gloria, I watched part of the Rhode Island game last evening and see this morning that they were not the victors. People do some dumb things like building in a flood plain.
Jeanne, thanks for helping Joan out and getting us started on a new week.
Phyllis, I haven't had one of those big and gooey Cinnamon rolls for ages.
Callie, your 97 year old friend sounds like someone that it would be nice to know.
June, you are a trip with your comment about us deleting your postings. That is not going to happen. :) I sure hope today finds you feeling better. I do see that you did some walking and were going down to supper last evening so that tells me you got to feeling better.
Lloyd, sorry that I do not know the answer to your problem with the video shutting off. Have you checked the setting for the Skype program as you may have clicked on the wrong link making it just an audio call and not a video one.
Hal, the birthday party for your friend sounds like fun. Jackie has been posting in the Christian Photographers discussion and I don't think anything new is going on with her based on her postings. My wife has not tried the Lidocane patches. Fortunately she can get comfortable in her easy chair and spends a lot of time there.
Amy, Pat does print off many different patterns from the Internet and I sometimes wonder what she does with them. However, if that makes her happy then I am fine with her printing all of the things. Unfortunately she hasn't been up to doing much sewing although now has her Featherweight set up and has all the things she needs to sew on it in our sun room. She also spends a lot of time watching quilting videos on the computer or on the TV. I wonder who makes that mess in your sewing room. I think the same little elf does the same thing here as Pat is always talking about needing to straighten up her sewing room upstairs.
Carol, glad your laptop is behaving itself. Sometimes just turning it on and letting everything reset does wonders. Pat is always checking for new recipes on the Internet and she has found some great ones that we really enjoy. She retired her old cookbooks to the bookcase here in my office.
It's spring today! And for at least a couple of days it will feel like it with temperatures in the mid to upper 40's. Then of course, as normal, it will be back to low 20's for a couple of days. But at least this time of year it will continue to get warmer. Until it gets to "hot" and I complain about that. :D
My furnace has a new blower and my church is paying 2/3 of the cost. One more blessing from a Heavenly Father who is looking out for me.
Jeanne Lee: Wonderful news that you are being gifted with over half of the cost of that new blower for your furnace. That is a great idea for the use of church funds. We go to two different churches, one here in Tucson and one at home. Both have outreach programs and this one has people who will work on computers, etc. The other one has a group who will build fences, and all sorts of work. It makes my heart glad.
Don has a VA appointment for a procedure today - this afternoon. So, I will just wait until another day to get a haircut (falling in my eyes now). Another phone call this morning and another couple wants to visit - but they have their own RV. Pretty soon I will have what I call "Dribs and Drabs" left in the fridge before we leave and then it is easy to cook or bake everything and either give it to neighbors or have them over for all the leftovers. We do this at both places and try not to waste food. Neighbors always seem to accept it ::)
A very, very Good afternoon dear hearts, and gentle people. This day worked out differently for me. I was over-due for a shower, so after I was dosed my first medications, I got in there and had a thorough cleansing. Needed a rest after that, then decided to get some necessary laundry done, so took care of that chore. Then it was time to go down for lunch. Had some cream of Broccoli soup, a cheese enchillada, salad, juice, and brought home some fresh fruit. All that done, of course, I kicked back with a book and spent a two hour nap.
Carol, I hope your Don had a comfortable procedure at the doctors. We hate to see our loved ones suffer in any way.
Jeanne Lee, how good of your Church to help out with the expense of a new furnace. That is what a Church should be like in all instances. Caring for one another in deed as well as word.
Larry, I am having less pain now so am pushing to get the body back into better shape again. I am happy to have you posting that you are taking better care of your self too. Better to pass up a meeting or two. We can get too involved at times, and it gets to be habit rather than enjoyment. I do hope Pat was able to tolerate the MRI.
Callie, Spring time is always such a treat in most of the States. In So. Ca. we hardly notice a change in seasons, as we never have a drastic change. Some summer days get hot, but not unbearable, and winter brings us needed rainfall, which we are expecting for tomorrow and a few day later….hopefully.
Gloria, hope you got good news from your eye doctor. I am reading altogether too much. My eyes get very irritated when the day is not even half over. Has Regina and husband been all settled in now, or are they still busy with plantings, etc. ?They strike me as a couple that will always have something going on to improve or re-do.
I need to get outside for a nice walk-about. Sun is shining and air is fresh and cool, and I had too long a nap. The cobwebs are collecting in my brain. So, off I go for now. Be back later.
:cup: hi
Had my walk...just down to the club house where I picked up a banana for tomorrow, had a hug and some chatting with friends, then dragged on back home. Tiredness happens so quickly, but this too will pass....one way or another. :) Mail was in...junk. Ed has been gone since 2005 and he just received a Stocks and Commodities magazine with my new address. They never give up do they.
A update on Our Bis, from Joe.
Update on Mom (Joan Lavelle)
They have tried unsuccessfully each of the last few days to wean Mom of the vent. Today they hypothesized that the fluid that she has around her lungs may be contributing to the lack of success, so they are planning a procedure to remove the fluid tomorrow.
She has been largely incoherent today as they gave her meds to make it easier to tolerate the vent and all the other tubes.
Thanks to all for thoughts and prayers.
My continued thoughts and prayers for you, JOAN and Our JUNE! Hugs to you both.
CAROL, I hope Don's procedure went well.
JEANNE LEE, so happy your church funds were there to help you out with the furnace repairs.
Jenny
Thanks, Jenny, for the news about Joan; I only wish it was better news. Thoughts and prayers continue.
Mary Ann
Thanks for the news about Joan..... so hard to get over something the older we get. Please thank Joe for the messages, for sure this is a bad time for all of them. Prayers and good wishes continue for all of them.
I caught another "bug".... this time can't eat & had dry heaves every hour all night long. So far today I got down half of a hard boiled egg & took me from noon until dark to get down an orange. Got a bottle of water in every room.
This heat doesn't help! Don't know what it got up to today but son was over & took AC cover off. It was 90 degrees yesterday.... lucky for me the house has dark tinted storm windows so stays cool inside. I am heading for bed already & been sleeping off & on all day. Had sprinkler guy over & son came to watch what he did.... I was disappointed they didn't bring the equipment I told them would be needed (they don't like to be told how to do their jobs).... but more or less wasted the hour you pay for coming out~~ Haven't heard when they will be back to finish the job, he was here more than an hour. Gloria, I'm already starting my gripes about heat!
Carol, Cas had so many procedures in 10 years, almost one a year. You are taking good care of Don, at one time I think he & Cas were having much the same problems. I hope the one Don had today works & gives him relief.
Phyllis, I do love that graphic.... the colors just sing "spring"!
Jeanne Lee, glad you got the blower replaced & all's well. Thanks for keeping this place going.
I need to get to bed... making so many typing mistakes, transposing letters..... frustrating. God Bless All~
June, I'm so pleased with the care you get and the choices you make.... you are one strong lady!
Jenny Dear, thank you so very, very much for the report on our beloved Bis/Joan. I wish it could have been better news,my heart goes out to the family. I saw my brother on a ventilator, and it is not a pleasant thing to witness. God knows how much we miss our girl, and how difficult it is for her children. May God give them all strength and renewed health for our dear Bis.
Tisie, my poor dear one. I am SO sorry that you are now nursing a new bug. You are barely over the last one. I am glad those bottles of water are available. Soda crackers are a good settler ad sometimes we need that extra salt in our diet when we are consuming more water. I not only take four salt tablets a day, but now on a new regimen that is supposed to suppress the loss of salt in the urine. Life get more interesting as the years add on
I pray you all have a peaceful night and a much, much happier and healthier tomorrow. I am still so thankful for Jeanne Lee's good Church. There is always some good news to counteract the bad, and our God is still in Charge, so be brave and hopeful kids. Hugs, Love and prayers.
The news was not good about our Joanie, God Bless Her.
I am off to bed. Good nite, sweet dreams and God Bless each and everyone of you.
good Morning everyone!
Hal I agree with you certainly not the news I want to here about Joan.
the best we can do is pray and leave it in God's hands. my prayer is he see's
fit to leave her with us for a while longer and heal her. everyone Have a great day.
My grandson is to be here at 8 AM and help me put a seal in the track tightener
On the bulldozer. so off i go to do the vitals and document them for VA.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone...
Thank you Jenny for the news on Joan, must admit I had hoped for more encouraging news. Prayers for her and her family...let's hope when they drain the fluid that it will be the turnig point for her and she will be on the mend.
Shirley, prayers for you also..have you tried some Gatorade? What ever you do keep hydrated..
Jeanne Lee, what a blessing that the church did that for you!
Gloria ,hope your eye appointment went well.
We are off to the city, hubby has two appointments today. We were lucky that they could do both of these on one day and not have to go in again!!
Light rain here over night but still a foot of snow to contend with.
Better get ready.
Enjoy your day everyone..
Lloyd, good morning...enjoy your time with your grandson and have a great day..
Good Morning Amy Have a great day.I think we are all in the same boat hold of the same oar for Joan.
Lloyd
I wished so hard that the news of Joan could have been better. I'm praying that once they remove the fluid around the lungs that she will do better.
Where's Jane? Worried about her, too. Not like her to not let us know that she is OK. I hope she can post something today.
Take extra care, Shirley. And don't delay about seeing a doctor if you don't start to feel better soon. Putting it off only makes it worse.
Please be well and stay well, everyone.
Good morning everyone, Looks like I have to continue with the eye drops for another couple of months. Eye doc says my eyes are looking not as dry but to continue for 2 more months.
LLOYD glad you are enjoying your juicer. I still rather eat the fruit and vegetables and get all the goodness from them. I never cared for drinking juice.
PHYLLIS just heard on the news that the freeze in S. Carolina killed 85% of the peach crop. That I did not like hearing. East coast peaches are always better than the California ones, but maybe this year with the rain there they will be a little better.
LARRY yes both RI teams lost the other team lost early but that last game with URI was close in score at least. Yes just like the ones building at the shore, a hurricane comes up and wipes them out and they rebuild again in the same place. Really stupid IMO.
JEANNE LEE like you it was warmer here yesterday, no winter coat when I went out, a lighter one felt good, today more os the same, into the low 50's so light jacket for this afternoon's appointment. How wonderful your church is helping in the cost of the blower for your furnace.
CAROL my daughter and SIL have found a church they like in Arizona now and are happy with it.
JUNE I know you enjoyed finally getting a nice shower. That is something I enjoy but at times I would love to get in a tub and just soak up laying in nice warm water. No tubs here though and I do not think I could get up out of one anymore. My daughter is planning a garden and my SIL is working on the area, will have to make some raised beds and get some good soil to fill them with. They both keep busy and she finally found time to start another painting. I have been staying away from the computer and limit my reading, too. I have trouble getting those drops in my eyes and keep blinking. He has trouble with me blinking when he puts drops in my eyes.
JENNY thank you for the latest on JOAN. She has been in my thoughts and prayers and will be till she is back with us again. We all love and miss her so much.
SHIRLEY hope you are feeling better today. I will be griping about heat the first day it hits 80°. I hope today finds you feeling better. Seems like your lack of sleep is catching up with you so if you are sleep lay down and sleep. As June often says sleep in the best medicine.
HAL that is how I feel about the latest update on JOAN.
AMY I was hoping I could stop the eye drops but have to continue with them a couple more months. Good luck on your trip into the city today. I see my doctor this afternoon, just a regular visit.
Hi everyone. I am fine but am running late and I want to go and see if I can find a new easy chair. If I wait I won't have the energy later today. I will be back.
We sat up late again - star-gazing. It is just wonderful to behold and a good time to give thanks.
Yesterday was smooth going - Don has wonderful care from the VA. There are younger ones in the waiting room and women as well.
Gloria: Nice that your daughter has settled - having a good church or synagogue is priority and grounds a person in the community.
Sad news about the freeze on the peach crop. Remember feeding Gerber's peaches to the babies - they loved peaches.
Shirley: thank you for your note on Don. I am smiling at your trying to give any advice to the workers - they think they know everything.
No sleeping-in here as neighbors had yard workers before 6 this morning - the buzzing sound woke me and that is alright. Our oldest son and wife were in Sedona going over rocks on dune buggies - what a chore. We just like to walk in peace.
Thinking of JOAN.
Alright - I will say this - a "new norm" began yesterday and it did throw me for a loop. Coming to terms with it today - what else can a person do?
Good Morning. Murky old morning. No rain just dark, dark clouds. Which doesn't help anyone's mood.
Larry hope you find a nice easy chair. One that meets all your and Pats requirements.
Mary Ann, have you seen this about Uber? Seems they have problems in the head office.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/19/business/jeff-jones-leaves-uber-ride-sharing-president.html (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/19/business/jeff-jones-leaves-uber-ride-sharing-president.html)
Good Morning All, from a cloudy, damp, Stanton, CA. Several things I would like to make the body attend today. Jeff Davis has returned from Uganda and is going to talk about his experiences there, at 10 a.m. and I hope to get back to my balance and mobility class at 2:45 this afternoon. We shall see if the body agrees.
Amy, have a good trip and fortunate to take care of two appts. in one day. How far is "the city" from where you are located ?
Lloyd, work slowly and carefully today. I have to tell myself the same thing, so I know it is difficult not to pick up like we did one year ago, it is just not worth the risk.
Phyllis, I agree…it is not like our Janie to be gone from each day. I pray all is well with her.
Gloria, how much acreage does your daughter and her husband have ? Is she planning a big garden that will require canning, etc. I always had a very small one with just enough to use and give away…no canning for this lazy one. I miss it still. I use eye drops quite frequently…no prescription..just that I read so much I know my eyes find relief with the drops. Have you tried holding down the lower lid when you put in the drops ?
Larry, you are wise to try out the chair before buying. We are all build differently. My son purchased my recliner, and I would have chosen one a little larger when opened. My legs are long, but I manage to find the needed comfort by adding a folded blanket where my ankles and feet are. Like you, if I don't get things done in the first part of the day, they don't get done. After lunch I need myZZZZZZZ's.
Carol, no sleeping in for me either. Six a.m. sharp there is a knock on my door. A sweet young lady comes in and takes my blood pressure, put a nitro patch on my shoulder and gives me that first pill for thyroid. Then I do all my arm and leg and foot massage, to hopefully help the blood on it's way to do it's job. By then the coffee is ready for that first yummy cuppa'.
Hal, just a glimpse of early sun here, then clouds and few drops of liquid stuff. I'm due to be downstairs for a program in an hour, so I had better wrap this up and get ready.
Have a great day dear hearts. We will keep our Bis/Joanie close in prayer as we go about our day, with high hopes that healing is taking place in her dear body.
I love you all.
This was a nice morning to get out to shop and this afternoon it is going to get into the 80's again. My shopping trip was successful and after sitting in probably 20 different recliners I found the one that fit my neck just right. A week from tomorrow it will be delivered. It is leather and has the motorized recline feature rather than the lever. We are giving the chair I am replacing to our granddaughter's boyfriend who just purchased a home and has little furniture. Our granddaughter is coming out this evening to fix dinner for us and it is much appreciated.
Pat was able to tolerate the MRI yesterday afternoon but said she know has a good idea of what a sausage feels like being in that MRI tube with no room left over. We did eat out afterwards and went to Pizza Hut and got a visit a few minutes with our son as they were not very busy. Looking forward to a restful rest of the day.
Jeanne, glad you can now use your furnace and it sounds like you have a fine bunch of folks in your church. God does provide.
Carol, our church does the summer program of working on homes badly in need of repair as well as sponsoring a week summer camp for youth that has the mission of similar work. We have one man who has built several wheelchair ramps for people as a volunteer. There are so many good people but it is usually the bad ones that get the attention.
June, I guess we would have to say that yesterday was cleaning day for you in more ways than one.
Jenny, thanks for the update on Joan. I don't envy her the procedure to remove the fluid as it is a painful one.
Shirley, hope today finds you feeling better and staying cooler.
Amy, how far are you from the city you have to go to for your husbands appointments?
Gloria, I read an article yesterday that the freeze here in South Carolina is estimated to cost the farmers 60 million dollars. I hadn't seen the numbers on the extent of the peach crop but saddened for all concerned as well as the consumers as the peaches are great and many are grown around this area.
Carol, glad that Don gets good care from the VA. That should be the situation for all of our veterans to whom we owe our freedom.
June, I wouldn't buy a chair or try to buy one for someone else without trying them. I came down to two chairs and I selected the one that fit my neck the best.
Hal, when I clicked on the Uber link, it showed I was e-mailing it. I think I did read about some trouble with Uber, but it wasn't here. I'd hate for them to have problems because it provides welcome, additional income for Tom.
I posted this in Norm's B&T, but yesterday a friend of Tom's was shot and killed by her son. Both Dot and I knew the woman, not well, but we did know her. They may never know the motive since both the woman and her son are dead. The son shot himself after shooting his mother and died at the hospital. She was 59 and he was 34. Tom has gone to lunch with another friend and I know what the topic of conversation will be.
It's a lovely day here today with the temperature around 50 degrees. The sun is shining and I have the front door open so the sun comes in.
Mary Ann
Mary Ann I corrected it.
Mary Ann, I am so very sorry to hear about Tom's friend being killed by her son, and then the son's suicide. It is heartbreaking to think of a family being that disturbed.
Larry, I am glad you shopped so well for you new chair. May it give you many hours of pleasurable comfort.
It was a good program on Uganda. And I was delighted to learn that the majority of the children at the Church sponsored school do speak English. Wild animals roaming the countryside, but modern teaching in the school. Beautiful countryside, but marred by termite hills as tall as a man...eeek.
Thank you all for the sympathy, I really was in the middle of a "pity-party" & ready to cry. Not used to catching everything offered germ wise!
June, glad you mentioned the soda crackers, it really helped. Ate a few before going to bed & know it soothed the demons in the tummy. Woke up ready to eat my usual egg sandwich, toast & coffee. Thank you.
Amy, I don't have Gatorade in the house but will try it next time. I did crave/eat an orange & that is unusual for me. Have so much acid in my body I have to be careful or get sores on my tongue. Thanks for the reminder.
Larry, glad you found the perfect chair. Cas had such long legs his feet would hang over the foot rest when extended. Finally convinced him to go to the LazyBoy showroom & sit until he found what fit. I don't fit in any of the chairs he had (Lazy Boys & Lane), gave one to youngest son for his daughter, practically new, black leather. Kids don't sit in them, lay across. Still have 2 in the sitting room of the master bedroom, right now piled with clothes I am going through to get rid of. If it hasn't been worn out the door in the last year it goes out for the last time. Sandy has me inspired!
Gloria, we had 90 day before & yesterday broke a record with 89 degrees.... can only imagine how miserable the summer will be starting out like this. Dry as a bone. Had to laugh, yesterday my son took the cover off the AC & got the house cooled down. He turned off the humidifier on the furnace 'cause I told him I could handle 40s at night. This morning when Tom came in & Tiger came up from where she was sleeping in the basement, they both ran to a furnace vent to warm up. They kept waiting & looking at me like "where's the heat?" Tell Regina (if she doesn't know already) Dick Blick art supplies online works for me.... now that she isn't close to a store. Glad she is getting back to painting.
Phyllis, I do hate the freeze got the peach crop. Probably any orchards left around here got hurt, too. We used to have lots of apple & peach orchards in south Wichita but most are gone to "developers".
Carol, what makes me mad is I told both office women AND the older man that understood what I was talking about that "there is no need to come if they don't have that one piece of equipment"..... he said they did. But he wasn't the one that came & the young kid was apologizing that he wasn't told, but it wasn't his fault! My son does know the wiring end of things. When he built a new house he wanted to do the wiring on the well they put in for sprinkler system but the company said "he couldn't because he didn't have a city license". So he called the city & went down & took their test, passed & did his own wiring. Nice to have him around, but I do insist on paying. When I get the bill for this job I will pay him the same labor I pay the company, going to choke on parts they put in, but son has been here the whole time & is "keeping them honest". Sadly, I'm finding people do get greedy when doing jobs for "dumb little old ladies". Now what is the "new norm".... care to talk about it?
Well, I'm talking too much again. Oh, Gloria, I called Doris the other night, to see if the redbud & dogwood was starting to bloom. She has a brother that lives not far from the campground I go to & said he & wife take Sunday drives so would call him next day. When she called back we talked for an hour & half... she hasn't been on the computer much but said she would peek in. I tried to give her a quick run down on everybody, she really misses the old Missouri crowd with Whimzy & Bunnie & so many more that we haven't seen in here.
Hal, I read the article & hope Uber survives, it sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know if it is here in Wichita, but when I quit driving I'd like to find a driver I could call for & get the same one each time. Don't know if it works that way, but sounds good to me.
Mary Ann, so sorry to hear about Tom's friend & lady you knew. Sad that we never know when someone needs help mentally. My sister had a long time friend that killed herself, her younger sister & husband lived here & I saw them often at church. I offered my sympathy when I heard about it and she looked so sad when she told me that she had taken her own life. I did not know that. My comment was "that is the worst kind of illness because there's no symptom or blood test to diagnose". Sad part is the family always grieves more, wondering if they should have known. My nephew took his own life & I know it did shorten his parents life with their grieving. Give Tom my sympathy.
I think I said enough, huh?
I'm so sorry that the news of Joan wasn't better. It's so good that her son Joe is doing a great job sharing the news.
I will keep praying that the next time we hear news, it will be so much better.
Pat... :)
Just wanted to share the latest report from Joe. I do hope Our Bis
is on the way to recovery. Jenny
Update on Mom (Joan Lavelle)
They drained 1 Liter of fluid from Mom's chest today via a procedure that they performed in her room after strong requests from me because she gets really anxious when they have to wheel her away from the room.
The doctors said that she is already breathing better after the procedure and that they will try again to wean her off the ventilator tomorrow.
Mom was really agitated and restless today. She was moving around and yanking her tubes out regularly. All the staff in the ICU was busy with the man next door that was coding. That's when it hit me that I should hold her hand and sing to her like I used to sing to Finlay to settle him down at bedtime. Within minutes of me singing old Catholic Hymns, Mom settled right down and was clearly at peace. After, I exhausted the 4-5 songs that I knew most of the words to, I pulled up YouTube and played her more songs. She faded off to sleep.
Thanks to all for sending thoughts and ðŸ™ðŸ»prayersðŸ™ðŸ»!
#WeanOffTheVent
Jenny, Thank you my dear good friend, for sharing Joes' message with us. My tears are falling, reading of Joe singing his mother to calmness. We just never know how much gets through to those who seem so out of it. May God be with all her children and give them strength to get through this bad time.
God Bless and keep you, Dear Joan!
My tears are also welling over with Joe knowing what his mother needed. I am sure his thoughtfullness was the best medicine possible. Prayers continue.
Thanks for being a part of all of our lives, Joe, by letting your mother share Finlay's early years with us. She appreciated your sharing and understood when he thought he was too old.
Thank you, Jenny, for bringing the update. Hugs to you.
Good Night everyone! It is time to bid you all sweet dreams.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone..
Back to being cold again..+3° F here this morning and they are calling for snow and or rain Thur Fri and Sat.Getting high winds at the moment.
Appointments went well ,cardiologist increased one pill and rheumatologist coasting as the other two take precedence. We stopped for Chinese buffet and I couldn't help but ask if they had a new cook. A couple of times the shrimp had been overcooked but this time everything was delicious .
Jenny, thank you for keeping us updated on Joan, pray that this is the break through she needs and thankful that Joe knew just what to do to calm his Mom. Not all medicine comes in a bottle......this one came from the heart.
Larry, we are about 70 miles from the city. A nice drive on a good day, one has to watch out for deer in a few places but once you know your ok.
Gloria, at least the drops are helping you and I hope after two months you may not need them. My friends wife has to go for a needle in the eye and that just makes me shudder..
Shirley, I had no idea of how good Gatorade was until we helped out when a tornado went through north of us. We were ready to go home and stopped at the Red Cross station and all I wanted was a ginger ale but the lady insisted I take Gatorade. To make a long story short she said take the Gatorade, drink it first then drink the ginger ale which I did. I didn't need the ginger ale, the Gatorade not only quenched my thirst but made me feel a lot better.. Now it is a staple in the house.
Carol, like you I enjoy the peace and quiet, you get to see more animals about when your not on snowmoblies, dune buggies or four wheelers.
I am going to get my haircut this morning, last time was Sept so it is a tad long but not for long :))
Enjoy your day everyone..
Good Morning Everyone from the soon to get colder, windier and wetter, rocky coast of Maine.
Oh vey ! In a couple more days, "They Say" that warmer, dryer weather will finally be coming to stay....
(Well, you know how that is .. I won't hole my breath)
I hope that Joan is feeling better this morning .. My thoughts are with her ...
Have a good day, Everyone.
Sandy
It is another beautiful morning but will only get into the low 70's this afternoon. We had a severe thunderstorm last night but we needed the rain. I was pretty useless yesterday and guess buying the recliner was as much excitement as I could take. I spent most of the rest of the day laying down. Our granddaughter did fix a delicious chicken dish for us along with a vegetable and salad. Today Pat is going to attend her craft group at Church and while she is there I will go on down for coffee at the cafe. She did get the report on her MRI and I could understand enough of it to know that her back is not in good shape.
June, I am looking forward to my new chair and being able to do away with the two cushions I have used for quite awhile in my old chair, which is 14 years old. It has served me well.
Shirley, the recliners we have replaced were both LazyBoy chairs. I sat in quite a few chairs yesterday and could tell immediately if they were right for me or not and could move on. I finally came down to two and so repeated the test and chose the less expensive chair as it fit me better. I guess you sent your hot weather over our way as it got up to 86 degrees yesterday afternoon.
Jenny, once again thanks for being the conduit to news about Joan. She surely will begin to feel better getting that fluid removed. Glad the singing and the music help calm her yesterday. Sure hope she can get rid of the ventilator today.
Amy, glad the Chinese buffet was to your taste. Glad the appointments went well. You have quite a drive to get to the city.
Sandy, we can always hope that the winter weather is over. It has been a real shock down here that after such a mild winter we had three night in a row that froze and destroyed 85 to 90 percent of the State's peach crop. Fortunately, at least locally the big strawberry farm was able to save their crop by spraying the plants all night with water from the irrigation system and prevented them from freezing. Our local strawberry stand is now open although we haven't gotten any yet.
Good Morning Everyone!
Still dark out and cant really tell what the day will be like, weather wise. Warm I am am sure. Yesterday turn out to be a beautiful spring day.
Amy back when I lived in Ottawa I swear there was a Chinese restaurant in every block, like we have Mexican. I loved their egg rolls, which were much smaller and in squares. The Chinese (Asian) restaurants here their rolls are round. We have a Viet Nam friend and she makes what she calls a spring roll and serves them with different sauces and I could make a meal of them alone. Her sister and brother in law had a restaurant and their food was excellent. You were speaking of being 70 miles from the city, my daughters live in Del Rio and they are 150 miles from San Antonio, the closest city and think nothing of driving up here to see a doctor, which one did yesterday.
Larry I'll bet you were give out, I know I would be. Shopping is a real chore anymore.
Wish we could get some of your rain. Maybe in a few days, low out in the Pacific they say headed our way. Stranger we get most of our bad weather from the West and the Gulf is just down the road.
Hope our Joanie is feeling better today and can come off the ventilator. Joe you are a good man. I know it isn;t needed, but bless you for the comfort you gave your Mom.
Coffee is ready, who wants some?
Good morning everyone, glad I was out yesterday, colder and windy today. Waited more than an hour for my ride home and was exhausted when I got home. Goi8ng out for appointments 2 days in a row is something I will never do again. I just want to lay on the couch to watch TV today.
LARRY hope you got that new chair yesterday.
CAROL it takes awhile to find a church you are comfortable with when moving to a new state. There is only a few peach orchards here, think we are not warm enough or something. Sure can tell a native peach, fuzzy skin and so juicy.
HAL did you have to send the dreary sky here for today? Temperature I just heard will be dropping and we will have snow squalls at time, Welcome spring or winter?
JUNE my daughter and SIL have 50 acres, they had to string some barbed wire around the house area to keep cows out. The cows will eat anything even started chewing up the housing they out in around their pump. It was a huge ranch that was broken up in 40 acre lots but they still have cows that wander around. She thinks this year her garden will be experimenting to see what she can grow there. She loves canning. No matter how I try putting those drops in my eyes I get them all over my face. I found if I lay on the couch to do them it is easier.
LARRY the laying on that table and not moving and the noise in the MRI tube is no fun. Glad you found the right chair.
MARY ANN how horrible, we hear on the news at times about a son killing a parent and then himself but is hoard to think of that much hate.
SHIRLEY glad you are feeling somewhat better. I copied the name of the art supplies and will send it to her. There is an online place that she ordered supplies from before but have no idea the name. Some of the orchards here are now houses, including the few peach ones we had. My younger son can do wiring and plumbing as well as construction but is not licensed for them. Like Doris the old Missouri crowd and Bis' Busy Nest were both fun groups with lots of laughs every day. Martex with all those “tripsâ€.
PAT we are all praying and waiting for good news about Joan.
JENNY thank you so much for sharing Joe's FB posts. Bless Joe and his singing to Joan.
AMY wish Canada would keep this current blast of cold air we now have and send it north to the pole. I have a SIL who goes for shots in her eyes because of Macular degeneration. Working so far and it has been going on more than 5 years.
HAL it was warm and sunny here yesterday, I spent an hour outside sitting on my rollator waiting for my ride. Very tiresome.
Gloria, we found out a bit more about Tom's friend; her son stabbed her, then stabbed himself. He did not die right away, but I think he did before they got him to the hospital. A few years ago, he was in a motorcycle/truck accident in Arizona and was thrown 25 feet in the air. Some people have speculated that he hit his head, maybe causing a concussion and that is what caused his problem now. I guess there will be an autopsy to prove or disprove that. I feel for Tom because the woman (her name was Gloria!) and her husband have been good friends and they would have Tom to their place for supper occasionally. Tom said she was a very good cook.
Dot and I had lunch together at her place. She had made some minestrone soup and she bought some fish sandwiches for us - a nice meal. We gabbed a bit, then I had her bring me home.
Mary Ann
Happy Wednesday dear hearts. My day started out early with a 5a.m. blood draw, and for some reason a lot of chest pain. I must have pushed too hard yesterday as I an sore as the devil in the lung area this morning. I did get my bones down for my son Gary's Bible studies. He is so well liked and makes things come through so clear. He aso starts the service with hymns we sing to his lead and his guitar.
Now I am home heating up some left-overs for lunch, and will be seeing my doctor around two p.m. The rest of the day is mine, and I intend to just loaf it away.
Gloria, I really should have Gary take me to a dentist, but I am just too tired out from all this chest pain. I was using dental floss yesterday and pulled off a piece of enamel that was helping to hold silver filling in place. I can see the filling with a little dental mirror, so I will probably lose that ere long, but feeling this bad and weak as I do, I'm saying to heck with the whole problem. What ever will be will be. Wow..50 acres is a lot of land your kids have Gloria. I wish them the very best of luck and contentment in their new home . They are young enough to really enjoy many years to come. They made a wise move, indeed.
I have eaten my lunch, sipping on coffee and will soon go down for my appt. with the Dr. A long trip…..two floors down on the elevator. ;)
Had a long wait to see my doctor but a good visit. I like her so much. I am tired though. Glad to be home with nothing else scheduled for the day. Hope we hear more from Joe, and I hope and pray it will be good news again.
Mary Ann, it must be very depressing for Tom to go through losing people he cared about and didn't realize they were in such a crisis. My sincere sympathy to him and to you, it leaves us with a sad, empty sort of feeling.
June, you didn't say if the doctor was concerned about your chest pain today, hope it is better tonight.
I am fuming today, the sprinkler people never called with another appointment to finish the job so I called this morning... "can't get back until April 5"..... Can you believe I've got to live with these holes in the ground & piles of dirt in at least 4 or 5 spots, can't have the yard guys come to do spring clean up until then!!! I got out my barrel that holds the biggest yard bags you can buy, filled 3 bags with leaves just from the porch sidewalk to the driveway, maybe 10'.. the 4th bag is nearly full but I was worn out. That did not include the leaves packed into yucca plant that fills the corner of sidewalk to garage door, that'll take another bag or two. None of these leaves are mine. I have a Cleveland pear tree and Sweet Gum in the front yard & picked up those leaves as they fell, not one in 500 of the leaves I picked up today came from my trees. Some people never pick up, some have a crew that does the job once a year, one neighbor lady & I pick up once a week all fall & every day when trees do a big dump.... today bags are full of pin oaks, sycamore, redbud, magnolia & some other kind I don't recognize. Anyway, I am not a happy camper tonight.... everybody is picking on the little old lady this week. :tissue: Got that off my chest. At least I feel good enough to get mad~ My mother's doctor kept saying that "she was growing old gracefully".... guess that ain't gonna happen here! :knuppel2:
Gloria, YES! It was Martex that I couldn't come up with the name! I came to trim my hair, like last year I was letting it grow to pull back for camping, couldn't stand it, 2 weeks ago cut it back to normal. It does grow fast so wanted to get the yard work done before cutting & washing today. 'Tis bedtime & still got to get the job done, never know what tomorrow will bring. Don't know what I'll do when I can't reach around my head to do my own hair, sure can't find anyone that uses a razor blade to trim anymore & scissors don't work for me... every clump cut with scissors will stick straight out. Ah, life's little problems. :crazy2:
Hal, a few years ago we had a couple from Viet Nam, when the wife made egg rolls she always brought some over and we enjoyed. Other than her rolls, I've never been able to eat any Oriental herbs & spices in foods, not sure what they use (I have a chart that shows the main seasonings in all ethnic foods) that doesn't agree with my system. No problems with French, Mexican or Italian.... basically same seasonings/spices. About 35 years ago when on convention with my husband 6 or 8 couples wanted to go to the most famous Chinese restaurant in LA or San Francisco... 8 course meal & I could hardly down a bite of each. So many of us & rather dark room, I tried hard not to let anyone notice, but I excused myself after that.
Don't know what the landscape is where Amy lives, but 70 miles of mountain driving is a lot longer than 150 miles of flatland like TX, KS, & even eastern CO.
Amy, I never got to the store today but sure wished I had, the Gatorade would have been welcome. Do you get the original flavor? When Cas was drinking it he tried different flavors, in fact, he even bought the powdered to mix his own, not sure why. They carried it playing golf. There's been a bottle of it on the shelves in the basement, my pantry/stockpile... got to be more than 4 years old since Cas will be gone 4 years in July. I always have my hands full when going up & am a bad house keeper.
Jane, glad you found the Epsom salts, hope you have time to lay flat for a couple hours to let those back bones wiggle & stretch apart if it is still bothering you, "picture it"... those little nerves slipping out from between the vertebrae & squealing for joy... "free at last".
Time to shut up & get the hair cut, washed & ready for bed. I did turn the furnace on, Tom was laying in front of the toe warmer under the sink in the kitchen. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.
Jeanne Lee, if you ever find a spare minute & are the one that put my weather "thingy" in before.... I sure wish I had it back but as someone once said, "way over my pay scale"... My zip code is 67203 if that's what it takes, but I don't want you to spend a lot of time working on it. I know you are putting in many extra hours keeping this place afloat till Joanie get back. Thank you for that. :smitten:
Tisie, you are right the highway from Del Rio to San Antonio is pretty straight, some of it, quite a bit, is two lane and not a bad drive. B U T the road from Del Rio to San Angelo, also 150 miles, is crooked as a dogs hind leg and lots of hills, not mountains, but is hill country. Many years ago my oldest daughter was going to college at Angelo State in San Angelo and I would drive up on Fridays and pick her up, pick up some Kentucky fried chicken, we didn't have one in Del Rio in those days, and drive back home, 300 plus miles and never think a thing about it. Kept the potato salad under the car a/c on the way home. Only one town between San Angelo and Del Rio, Sonora. Happen to be the home town of Hoss of Bonaza fame.
You know what I mean, Hal, about driving those flatlands. I grew up with one lane each way when it was 90 miles to city limits of KC (no more, KC & Sedalia stretched their city limits). Had one "dead man's curve" that was not forgiving when doing 100 to 120 mph & met a car going opposite direction. In those days, "reasonable" was the speed limit. Tell that to a teenage boy! The record was 59 minutes from limit to limit. I wasn't driving & don't remember if I was in the car. We honestly didn't think it was wrong if the speedometer showed 120. When any of the boys parents got a new car (Mercury, Olds 88 or Hudson ranked best) they had to make sure it would do the limit.
Girls didn't do the driving, not cool, and I wouldn't go along for a ride if they had been drinking, but I did love cars & speed. We had Joey Chitwood & Aut Swenson at the State Fair most years so from about 14 on, I would work the 10 days of the fair. From 16 on at the Administration Office so had a button that got me in all the shows free. Was a good life. If I remember, gas was about 19¢ a gallon, in the early '50s I don't remember anyone checking to see what kind of gas mileage they got, those big engines guzzled but no pollution stuff to lug them down, right? We didn't think we were doing anything wrong. Ah, the good 'ol days. I still love to drive the highways & enjoy the scenery, foot might get heavy in the wide open spaces but I am very careful in those winding roads in the Ozarks and CO mountains.
Nearing midnight, better get to sleep. Let myself get angry at the sprinkler people for not getting their job done and me having to clean up the whole neighborhood's winter leaves. Think anger wears one down more than work. I understand about taking home the KFC.... same when we lived in Western KS & came to Wichita, everyone took home a bucket of chicken.
Good morning everyone..
I feel so light headed ,I was wrong on the date of my late haircut ,it was in July. Nice to have a hair cut..and love the massage she gives while washing the hair!!
Not sure what is on the agenda other than hang out some laundry that I did before going to bed.
Gloria, I do wish the cold weather wasn't here too.I hope the temperature warm up and soon. I am so ready to go out and play in the dirt, I have been picking up seeds to plant for a wile now.
Larry, I love the recliner my husband bought me a few years ago, it is on that will lay you back or stand you on your feet with the push of a button.
Hal, that is a long distance and at one time wouldn't think anything of doing that. I find heading to the city and doing what needs to be done and the trip home just tucker me out. All I want to do is relax after a day out.
Shirley, I can understand your frustration with the workers, I am one that thinks if you start a job you finish it before moving on.
Mary Ann, that is so sad, one wonders what goes through their minds to do something like that. Something triggered him.
Sandy ,yesterday we had high winds, hope today is better. Think everyone is more than ready for Miss Spring to enter!
Hope to hear more on Joan, prayers for her and her family.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good Morning Everyone!
Ah Tisie, 19 cents a gallon and gas wars, we didn't know how good we did have it, did we?
Amy, when you live like you do and my kids do, an me also for some years, you just accept the distances you have to drive and get on with it. The only thing I really didn't like was that if you needed something and the local store didn't have it then you had to order the item and wait, forever it seemed. Now the kids have a couple of big box stores in Del Rio and can get just about anything. Here in a city of over a million, now, sometimes you have to drive all over town to pick up an item, like a switch for my Hunter ceiling fan a few years ago.
Got to get a move on bible study this morning.
Hi everyone. It looks like it is going to be another nice day but getting only into the low 60's. I plan on picking up medicine this morning at Walmart on my way to get my friend to take to coffee. After I take him home I plan on going back to the church for the Wisdom group meeting. I have a couple of chores to do in the kitchen if I have any energy left after a full morning.
I have a neighbor across the street from me whose home is under contract and the neighbors on one side of me listed their home yesterday. I just now spoke with them and they are moving back to Texas where they have a home. He has retired from his job as a nuclear engineer at the Savannah River Project. They have only been here a little over a year. I will hate to see both families leave as they are good neighbors.
I almost forgot that the college basketball playoffs continue today so know what I will be doing this afternoon and this evening.
Hal, I was tired when I went shopping so that didn't help. However, I knew if I didn't do it as early as possible that it wouldn't get done. I had been putting it off for quite awhile as I dread doing any shopping and am doing more Internet shopping.
Shirley, it sounds like this isn't your week to deal with workmen. Our yardmen are putting out new pine straw in our neighborhood today in preparation for the Master Golf Tourney week. While I am not fond of having a home owner's association I at least don't have to worry about caring for the yard as we have a maintenance company that does that.
Amy, my new recliner doesn't stand me up although I tried one of them but it didn't recline and wasn't very comfortable for me. My Dad had one of those chairs in his room at the nursing home and I used to sit in it when I visited him daily. I am going to enjoy the motorized features of the chair.
I thought I was younger than Hal and tesie, but must not be I from back then have a different memory I pumped lot of gas in one of those old pumps with the top glass bowel with a 3 ft handle on the side. customer would say I want x # of gallons and you best not over pump it.I pumped lot of gas @ 10 cents and 15 cents. we checked the oil level and the fluid in radiator and washed the windows all around even inside when needed.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, feels like winter has returned.Down into the teens overnight. It was deceiving yesterday, beautiful sunshine and blue sky but windy and cold. Have the local news on and one of the gal reporters is outside and all bundled up with the hood of her jacket on. The wind almost blew it off her head.
MARY ANN looks like they are more worried about concussions now than they ever were. Sports like football sure have had a lot of them. That is another reason I am glad my SIL and grandson for rid of their motorcycles.
JUNE I hope you are feeling better today. I know I did just about nothing, was worn out after 2 days of going out for appointments. Hope you can get to a dentist soon. Did I say 50 cres? I should have said 40. They love it there with the peace and quiet. She was telling me once about helicopter going around very low and later found out they were herding cattle. The men in the copter even waved to them. In San Diego they were in the landing path to the airport and the planes were so low you could read what airline they were from. I did not even go down the 2 floors in the elevator and around the corner to the mail room to check my mail box. I laid on the couch watching TV after my CNA left. I feel so lazy when I have days like that but wish I could do at least half of what I used to. 2 days in a row for appointments is something I will never do again.
SHIRLEY I would tell that company for the sprinklers what I thought of their work ethic once the job was done. Like you I like a razor cut for my hair but no one does that anymore. I cannot raise my arms to even use a blow dryer or a curling iron anymore so keep my hair as short as I can, Needs cutting again. Wonder if Matex still has goats. Remember how she named them for the ones who posted in the Missouri group? My daughter is 40 miles from town and it takes them an hour to get there, most of that time is on the dirt road down from the mountain.
HAL in this state 300 miles would be several round trips.
AMY like you that massage on the scalp always felt so good. I no longer drive but a day out now wears me out for several days, especially waiting for the ride to get me home. Tuesday I waited over an hour for them to pick me up. After a couple of nice warm days here with a gentle breeze it is windy and cold again.
HAL a gas price war at those old prices fro the late '40's would have everyone happy.
LARRY I had a delivery of a prescription. That is the only thing I like about the pharmacy where I get them now.
LLOYD it has been so many years since they washed the windows of cars when you got gas.
Happy Thursday Morning dear hearts. All the normal morning chores are taken care of, so now it is time for my sojourn with my cyber family.
Amy !!!! For the first time, I am able to read your posting without putting on my glasses and practically crawling inside the computer. What a delight !!!!!!! What are you planning to put in your Spring garden ? Veggies, flowers or both. I envy your ability to get down and dirty in Mother earth. How I miss it. I do have fhree flower pots to play in, but it's just not the same as a real garden.
Hal, my morning is free, and I'm glad of it…..can't seem to come alive yet in spite of the coffee and morning duties like bed making and dressing. There are four programs lined up for this afternoon and evening, but I will see how it goes as the day goes by.
Larry, i had a landlady whose recliner would lift her up, and she was afraid it would toss her out of the chair. I think, as much as is possible,we should do our best to use our own muscles for as long as we can. I have sure found the accessories a help with this painful rib area though. Getting out of bed still is a shaky situation.
Gloria, it still hurts to take a deep breath, sneeze or cough. Dr. seemed to think everything sounded good chest wise yesterday, so it is just waiting for nature to do the healing. I really dread having to go out to the dentist, so I am not telling Gary about the broken tooth. I was so tired after my last visit with them…two hours in the dental chair is really more than my body can tolerate. Forty acres is still a lot of land Gloria. Where I lived before I came here, we had forty acres, filled with buildings, but still open country around them. Here we have just four acres.
I am suddenly tired, so off I go to recline and read. See u later.
An afternoon nap is calling me already. We had company yesterday - then, a coyote crying most of the night kept me awake. We just took a bag of donated clothing to the local thrift shop after exercising then used a coupon for one free breakfast. It is cloudy and cooler here today and snow is predicted for the very dry Denver area - you need the moisture, Jenny.
Amy: thinking of the garden already. Peace and quiet is harder to find in the world - enjoy while you can.
Looking for the update on Joan.
Larry: Sorry about Pat's back problems - I hope she gets the help she needs.
Shirley: Your posts are so fun to read - but please take it easy swinging that wheel barrow around. :)
Hope Everyfriend is enjoying nice weather, good health and happy days!
Good evening and this will also be good morning as we will be in the road at 5:30 for chemo.
Today wasn't a planned day, I ended up taking Golden girl back to the vet. She is now on two weeks of antibiotics. On our way out one of the techs was walking a King Charles Spaniel puppy!! He was so cute,so soft and full of puppy breath , kisses and wiggles... :smitten:.
Managed to fill the wood box , get another load of wood in and make a pot of beef barely soup before we had to leave.
June , I am glad you can read my posts ,I am sorry I thought I had made them larger but maybe I was doing the opposite???
Carol,I love to garden and I can also find my peace and quiet on a small lake in my kayak!
Everyone take care and have a good evening..
Another pretty lazy day. I went down for a good lunch with good friends, the over to Choir practice. That really tired me out and left my lung hurting, so came home, took some tylenol, put on comfy clothes, and read and napped and read some more.I skipped balance and mobility. I would like to go to a prayer meeting at 6;30 tonight, but I would have to change clothes again, and I'm still feeling tired. So.....I'll probably take a pass again. The Soul is willing, but the body is weak.
Amy do you really have a lake nearby, and a kayak too ?????? You have a most interesting life style girl. Is the lake on your property ? When I was in my early teens, I lived across the road from an artesian well fed gravel pit, and practically lived in that water during the summer months.
I know we are all anxious for any news on our Bis/Joanie. But her people have more to be concerned with than keep us supplied with the latest news. So we will content ourselves with our trust and hope in God's perfect healing. We know she is surrounded by much love and prayers.
Good Morning everyone!
we buy most of our gas at Murphy's at this part of the country they are part of Walmart, we put $$$ on Walmart gift card and get 3 cents off the pump price.
they have a container out there with water in it and a medium length handle with sponge and wiper edge on it and towels to wipe clean. but unless the windshield has bird or big splash on it I do not wash it in or out. ever. now and again Nancy washes it. bad boy to much washing when I was a child and as a so called grownup and owned a service station of it. have a great day everyone.
Lloyd
If this works see how ireash dancing rely started.

Hi everyone on a bright and sunny morning here in South Carolina. We expect to get up to about 78 º today with zero chance or rain. Other than the housekeeper coming today this should be a pretty quiet day as have nothing on the calendar. We might go out to eat our main meal today but that has not yet been decided. Yesterday was a very enjoyable day for me as I felt good and like doing things for the first time in several days. I enjoyed the early evening basketball games but didn't stay up to watch the late games.
Lloyd, I have only a vague memory of gas pumps with the glass bowl on top. We had one service station that had those but don't remember my Dad buying gas there. We sure don't get personal service at the gas station anymore. You sure have had a lot of different jobs. No wonder you are so capable of doing so many different things.
Gloria, my son still has a motorcycle but has said he is going to sell it and that was music to my ears. I hope you are getting rested up by now. I don't know whether any of our pharmacies deliver prescriptions or not. Fortunately we haven't needed such a service at this point.
June, the lift chairs work so slowly that I don't think there would be much danger of being thrown out. I am glad you have your recliner to help you feel more comfortable as you heal from your injuries.
Carol, we use coupons when eating out very often, especially at Ruby Tuesday's.
JaneS, are you getting better weather. Hope all is well up your way.
Amy, does Golden girl have infection at the surgery site or is this for something else. Do you enjoy looking at seed catalogs as you plan your garden?
June, I know we are all looking for good news concerning Joan.
Good morning everyone, had trouble sleeping last night, the baseboard rattles every time the heat starts. 2 days I have left messages for the maintenance man but he has not showed up yet. I will go downstairs later and talk to the manager. If I got 3 hours sleep last night that was a lot. Another gray damp day here.
JUNE Mare had one of the recliners that helped her stand up. Only way she could get up at that time. Get to the dentist, that tooth will get worse and that will not feel nice. If I got a broken tooth now I would have the tooth pulled out.
AMY so sorry about your Golden girl. Hope the antibiotics work.
LARRY the CVS in this town will deliver meds but not all of them do. Of course the are the ones some medical insurances use for mail delivery.
Good Friday morning to EVERYFRIENDâ£ï¸
No news on our Joan, but continued positive thoughts and prayers for her today.
JUNE, I do hope you are feeling better each day. Hugs.
AMY, I am sorry to read that your Golden Girl has a infection at the wound site. Hope the antibiotics work quickly.
SHIRLEY, you sure have been suffering this year with the flu stuff. I hope you can get it all behind you and feel much better.
There are blizzard conditions in Colorado as I look out at this beautiful blue water and sugary sand beach! I am sure not ready to head home tomorrow!
I wish you all a good day.
Jenny
Jenny, I think all of us are hoping each day for good news on our Bis/Joan. As I recall her last siege where she need a respirator lasted a long time too. Hopefully, each day will find her more able to breathe on her own, and that will lead to having her home again. In the meantime, we can thank God that she has such a loving family looking after her. I read the following this morning, and it meant a great deal to me, at my stage in life, and I hope you also will find it reassuring.
"This is a time in your life when you must learn to let go: of loved ones, of possessions, of control. In order to let go of something that is precious to you, you need to rest in my Presence, where you are complete. Take time to bask in the light of my Love. As you relax more and more, your grasping hand gradually opens up, releasing your prized possession into my care. You can feel secure, even in the midst of cataclysmic changes, through awareness of My continual Presence. The One who never leaves you is the same One who never changes; I am the same yesterday today, and forever. As you release more and more things into My care, remember that I never let go of your hand. Herein lies your security, which no one and no circumstance can take from you." Sarah Young.
June: Thank you for the quote from Sarah Young. Hugs to you.
Amy: Love rowing - here, I use the rowing machine they have and if I close my eyes, I can imagine rowing on Lake Washington - in Seattle. Sorry about your sweet doggie not feeling cured yet.
Shirley - Tisie! Good day to you!
Jenny: See you in a month -
JUNE DEAR, I enjoyed your quote from Sarah Young. I will keep it to share with others when needed. Thank you. Yes, I think we all remember the struggle Our Joan had last time after being on the ventilator. With all our loving prayers she will be back home with us once again.
CAROL, the time is passing much too quickly, so yes, we will look forward to your return to Colorado in a month. Enjoy the time you have left in Tucson. Sure glad none of us were there today for the blizzard!
We are headed out to dinner to meet our Panama City Beach Family. It sure has been a wonderful week and I think Bob enjoyed sharing his growing up year stories with the grands. It has been quite a treat.
Have a good night.
Jenny
It has been a quiet Saturday here at Rowntree, with something different this afternoon. The daughter of one of our tenants was married today and her parent, or parents requested Rowntree to take care of entertainment after the wedding. I woke in mid afternoon to hear lively music playing in our Courtyard and people circulating around enjoying the food and entertainment. Now our usual "quiet" has returned. I slept so soundly after a good lunch..for about two hours..so it was good to have the lively music playing.
And it has been exceptionally quiet here today, unless my computer is sleeping as I did. I will have to back-track and investigate.
Here is a update I found on Face Book tonight from Joan's Daughter, Linda. It is a lot more encouraging and I sure am feeling a lot better about her.
My sister Jackie, my/mom's friend Riesa , and my mom's nurses all report mom is doing better today. She's already starting to be able to talk (post-vent). My sister brought mom more of the get well cards that had been sent, which mom loved. She also enjoyed a visit from the church deacon-- she seems happy to see visitors. Thanks to everyone for the continued well wishes and prayers.
God bless you, Joan. We are all here pulling for you. Continued possitive thoughts and prayers.
Sweet dreams to all.
Jenny
well it is good to see good news about bis. our prayers continue for her better health recovery. time for me to wish you all sweet dreams and good night.
I had a busy day worked on the Bulldozer putting a good used track on it.
then much needed rain started (god is good) and I went and got a haircut
before i had to start paying DOG Tax.
Lloyd
Amy, before I forget, want to tell you "thanks!"... for suggesting the Gatorade.... thank you, thank you! I got the lemon lime flavor & it tasted so good I kept on drinking until I downed 3 little juice glasses full. No side effects so had some more this morning for a break & bought another bottle this afternoon. My body chemistry must have changed, am craving things I haven't eaten since young. No sores on my tongue or anything.
Our weather is crazy today, was warmer when I woke up than about 10:00 am, then got hot & finally cooled down with thunder & scary clouds, very little moisture.
Jenny & Carol, I check the Monarch Pass cam and St.Elmo every day.... they showed some snow this morning but looks like it is melting good, especially St.Elmo. I don't know how those houses stood with all the snow on their roofs this winter & all gone now. Won't be quite 3 months before we are camping at Mt.Princeton. In the meantime, I looking for a few good days to go to MO to see dogwood blooming. I'm going to fill the water tank & hope no more hard freezes, did turn on the frig & freezer today to have cold when the day comes. Dogwood always blooms during tornado season so I don't plan ahead, just stay on "standby".
Gloria, have you had any contact with Mare since the old days? I think of her often & wonder how they are doing & if her gr-daughter is still running races. My gr-daughter was over again this week to work on her painting... she is frustrated it is taking so long but is pleased with her efforts. I told her at the start it would be the hardest one she ever did, not because of being the first, but she will remember how much labor it took to get all that detail in and maybe think about wanting to do simpler paintings. But she will know she can do any she wants. When it's closer to done I will post a photo of it & the photo she is working from.
June, I also liked the quote you posted, one that sticks in your mind. Is your chest better? Do you think you cracked a rib? I did it several times before I realized how easy they crack.... and every time the pain lasted 6 weeks. First time it happened the Dr asked if I wanted it wrapped or not, that it didn't make a difference. It was hot so I just tried not to cough a lot or bend certain ways until time passed!
Lloyd, I remember those glass bowl pumps. My gr-father had a little station right on highway 50 between Jefferson City & Linn, MO... on the edge of the little town of Loose Creek. Had a lunch counter & sold all those bagged goodies, place was built into a hill and the upper part was where they lived... it was also ground level. He bought that place after he retired & was fun to stop there on our way to Bonnots Mill to visit my other grandmother. One time we counted 56 first cousins playing outside on the upper level of the station. Our mothers always brought lots of food, big families, lots of hugs from aunts & uncles. Good memories.
Larry, glad you had a good day, I am impressed with how much you do every day. Also envy your wife that you don't object to eating out. Cas never wanted to eat out, had enough of it when working & out of town. If he saw something on TV that sounded good he would have me go get carry-out. I still do that instead of eating alone, at home I have TVs to eat in front of.
Had calls from my boys tonight, at least one of them calls every day & one calls nearly every night to make sure I'm okay. I do appreciate them for caring. My daughter used to call on her way home from work but now that she is retired she calls any time during the day. She is loving having time to clean & sort stuff at her house, first time she hasn't been working or going to school in her whole life.
Oh, Jenny, thanks for the news from Linda about Joan! That really sounds much better! :angel3: :angel4:
Good night, Lloyd, glad you had a good day & don't have to pay dog tax. :snoopy:
Time to give cats their midnight snacks & get myself ready for bed. Good night & sweet dreams to all. Prayers for all in need and hugs to all. God Bless. Shirley
Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!
Good morning everyone..
Yesterday went well.in and out of the hospital in good time too!!
We missed the worst part of the weather it seems ,a little snow and rain going in but nothing coming home. We did see the ice on the trees and wondered if anyone lost their power .
Shirley, your welcome ,reading back you asked what flavour we get and he only like the fruit/red one. Amazing how it works ,so I always try to keep some on hand, just in case!!
Larry, this is at the incision site . I told the vet tech,no problem giving a pill to golden girl as she just chomps them up, her glucosamine pills are much bigger than this antibiotic but it is spit out faster than it goes in. I now coat it with peanut butter and down it goes!
June we are nestled in between two lakes, one big one and one small one. In the summer I love to hear the loons calling each other from the lakes. At times when the loons fly over the house they are that low you can hear the wind in their wings......love that!!! I put both flowers and veggies in June, a must have is beans, not only for us but the dogs love the raw beans. I also liked your quote...how true that is..
Larry, while talking with my son last night I gave out an exclamation and he wondered what happened. I had sat down and the chair control was under me and the chair was going back!
Gloria, this poor dog has been through a lot yet is always wagging her tail..she has a good nature.
Carol, all you need is a cd of water/sea sounds and your off and rowing.
Hal, your right, you just accept the distance and in winter pray for good roads to travel on. I must say though the drive is pretty, we get to see all kinds of animals. I almost got a really close up look of a deer yesterday but braked in time. :))
Jenny ,thank you so much for the update. Joan is missed so much here , let's hope each day finds her improving and NO set backs.
Lloyd, hope today brings you a trouble free day..
Jane, may your day be filled with great people through your till if you're working. Enjoy your day to the fullest!
Have a great day everyone..
Good Morning everyone
well we got a good rain yesterday, needed it badly.
Shirley i enjoyed your post of yesterday very much. we need to do that more often ,and sometime you need to slow down and drop by here, we have good beds down stairs can spend a day or two is ok also. we would feed you good.
you should get you a juicer and eat and drink healthy make juices better than that gaiter aid.
Looks like everyone are sleepy heads today. I have to go take my vitals and meds. Have a great day.
Lloyd
Good Morning Amy you came in while i was posting Have a great day.
Lloyd
I have instant locial weather on my tool Bar, click it and it gives local weather right to the min. says 49º and mostly clear sun today, but still dark here.
c u all Later.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I wish you health, happiness and clear skies with just bit of rain to grow the flowers.!
No till to think of today, Amy, but I'm looking forward to a short visit from my daughter.
JaneS tell her to slow down, a long visit would be better.
Lloyd
To all that need one...
HUGS
(Author Unknown)
There's something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart;
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part.
A hug's a way to share the joy
As sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you 'cause you're you.
Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your neighbor,
Or a cuddly teddy bear.
A hug is an amazing thing-
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeling
But can't find the words to say.
It's funny how a little hug
Makes everyone feel good;
In every place and language,
It's always understood.
And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or special parts -
Just open up your arms
And open up your hearts!
:hugs:
Good morning everyone, had rain overnight. Nothing happening around here. The manager has been nice lately, makes everyone wondering when the next time she starts complaining again.
JENNY my older son and DIL just got back from a week in Florida and he said he hated to come back to winter temperatures.
JUNE I copied what you posted yesterday from Sarah Young. Thanks.
JENNY thanks for the update about Joan. Glad Jackie was there, too. Wish I could get out to get her some cards. Being house bound is not fun. Most of the times I get out are for appointments.
LLOYD glad you got some rain, we had some snow flurries yesterday, today it will be rain on and off.
SHIRLEY glad Amy's suggestion of Gatorade helped you. The snow piles fropm the plows are getting smaller here. I noticed the yard across the street is still snow covered, does not get much sun there. I have not been in contact with Mare for about 5 years now. Her granddaughter would be out of college by now. Does your granddaughter realize the paint has to dry all the time? My daughter says she does not have to wait as long now as she did in San Diego. Much less humidity in Arizona. She has always done something with a lot of detail.
JANE you have been very quiet. Hope you are feeling OK.
AMY glad you didn't drive if it was freezing rain while you were in town. There is a CNA that comes to this building and has been here for me at times. In summer she has a Kayak on her SUV and after work she goes to a lake to paddle around and relax. I would love to have her all the time, she is a very caring lady with a wonderful sense of humor. The last dog my older son had loved apples. She would walk out into his orchard and help herself to the crab apples. Funny to watch her. Love your Hugs, copied to share. I think we all love giving and receiving them.
JEANNE LEE :hugs:
Good Morning Everyone!
Looks like it is going to be another beautiful day, the rain promised didn't really materialize yesterday, got a light shower that just wet the street, dry under the trees.
Amy, deer on our highways is a real problem, especially when we have drought conditions, they come to the highway to eat in the bar ditches where the grass seems to stay green.
Tisie, we eat out quite a bit, but I hate to fight the traffic getting some place to eat. Most times it is rush hour. These cities, now days, people get off at staggered hours, it seems. From about 4 until 7 the roads are a mess. All we have close by are hamburger places and I do like a meal. Back many moons ago when we first moved here we were in the country more or less, just a little two land farm to market highway, now every road around here is five lanes and we are inside the city limits.
I think they said the other day our county now has a population of about 3 million.
To old to move or I would seriously consider it. In a way I envy the my girls in Del Rio, still just a small (35,000) border town, only rush hour is when school is in and people taking their kids to school on the main road.
I remember the old pumps with the 10 gallon glass bowl, if you wanted more than 10 gallons they had to pump move in the bowl, things were gravity fed to fuel the car.
Wife is up stirring so guess I will go have some coffee with her.

You've ever used a CD-ROM as a coaster to set your drink can on.
Hi everyone. We are suppose to have a cloudy day today but get up into the 70's without any rain. Pat and I went to a Chinese Buffet yesterday evening for our large meal for the day. It was OK and we will probably go back again although Pat ended up later in the evening with an upset stomach. She thinks the food she ate may have been too greasy. She seems fine this morning. When I went to the kitchen this morning I got things ready for Pat's scrambled eggs but had to cut up a red and a yellow pepper so I could put some of it in the eggs. I am trying to recover as that took quite awhile. I think next time I will get out the little food chopper and see if that isn't easier.
I just now fixed up my frozen fruit as I haven't had any of it for quite awhile and am enjoying a cup which has the consistency of soft serve. After it is frozen I usually let it sit for about an hour before eating it as it is better soft than hard frozen, which kills much of the fine flavor of the various fruits. I got everything cleaned up in the kitchen. I think that will probably be it for today.
Pat said yesterday we were going to have vegetable soup for our main meal today. I will likely watch some golf this afternoon and then watch the first two games of the Elite Eight basketball tourney. Both North and South Carolina Universities won their games by a nice margin last night.
Gloria, we also have to use the CVS Caremark for the prescriptions we get mail order. However, a majority of ours we get at the Walmart Pharmacy. Hope the maintenance man got to you yesterday. Gloria, those Redneck sayings sound like Jeff Foxworthy. I enjoyed them.
Jenny, I saw your picture from Florida and it looked like you were having a good time. Hope your trip home today went well and the storm had passed and the road clear getting home. It was so good to read a positive report on Joan's recovery and sure hope the worst is over for her.
Lloyd, don't you know your county needs that dog tax. Shame on you for getting your haircut and now they won't have the revenue. :)
Shirley, our dogwoods have bloomed and got the blossoms frozen with our freezing temperatures a few days ago. At least we got to enjoy them for a few days. I am wondering if there will be any azaleas blooming at the Master's Golf Tournament in two weeks. My you sure had a lot of first cousins. I bet you had some great times when you all got together. I have never minded eating out as it saved Pat from having to cook a meal and that has become more important now as sometimes neither of us really feel like cooking and are now having simpler meals.
June, the paragraph from Sarah Young you posted about letting go is so true at this stage in our life. What we have becomes so much less important and who we love becomes more important with each passing day.
Amy, I don't remember our dogs ever eating green beans. My new chair has the control built into the arm on the outside of the arm so can't sit on it. They had the ones with the control on a cord in the seat but I didn't want that. Sure glad you avoided that dear. Our car has a nice dent in the back panel near the gas tank cover where a dear ran into us several years ago while we were driving along on a four lane road. Fortunately we didn't crash. I felt thankful as it could have been so much worse.
Hal, don't envy you dealing with that traffic. We have a limited number of places to eat here in North Augusta but can easily access many others by going across the river to Augusta which has about 200,000 people although there are numerous communities built around it that hike the population a lot but those areas have their own business districts.
Reminder: There is a mini challenge going on!
http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=321.msg76940#msg76940 (http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=321.msg76940#msg76940)
Jenny dear, thank you !!!! it is SO good to hear any news at all about our Bis/Joan. It sounds great , and we all know God hears our prayers, and He knows to love we all have for one another here.
Tisie, you are sounding great today girl. They served us two and three bottles a day of Gatorade when we had the shut down because of flu here at Rowntree. I'm still hurting..going on the third week now, so I just pop some more Tylenol when needed. I tried cutting back to just one dosage today, but it didn't work. I need the full 1000 mg. They took three X-rays and didn't find any breaks, just a lot of bruising. Thanks for your concern dear.
Amy, your location sounds delightful, you are Blessed !! I went to uTube to hear the sound of the loons, and it truly is a distinct sound….to me it seems lonely…like one widow or widower calling to a lost love. Definitely an evening call. When you mention planting beans, I'm assuming it is the green "stringbeans" that I too enjoy eating raw.
Janie, enjoy your visit with your daughter. I had a nice email from my DIL this morning. She has been in Idaho visiting for a week with her son and family…sent me pictures of my adorable three gr. grands.I will be happy to have her home again, and my Gary will be even happier, I know.
Amy…God gave us arms and hearts and the joy of a loving hug. They can be SO healing.Thank you for the poem…it says it all.
Gloria, I'm happy you enjoyed the message from Sarah Young. Her book contains a daily message. I understand she takes a daily time to just listen to Jesus, then she writes it for her book, "Jesus Calling". I'm reading it the second time around, and each page seems "new" again. Is your son planing to keep the orchard for another year ? I think I had asked that before, but don't remember the answer..which is a normal thing in my life now…forgetting.
Hal, we too are having a beautiful day. Rain was forecast but so far it is sunny and cool. My favorite Aunt lived and worked in a border town of Mexico. She managed a hotel, and said she hired a lot of Mexican labor as they worked hard…those were the good old days…..back in the early forties.
Larry, I was impressed with that message of letting go too. When I really think about it, I realize how desperate we can be about clinging to "life". Our family, our friends, our everything……best to hold "love" loosely, or we can smother what we have.
My stomach has developed a new talent..it plays sounds that roll around inside it when eating-time draws near. So, I will close this for now and get ready to dine.
Bubble I have been watching the mini challenge daily...I admire your collection of books.....and chocolate. :)
I read all the posts earlier, started a notepad so I wouldn't forget but was in a hurry to get to Sam's Club for the chicken (for cats) and got busy looking & shopping and totally worn out by the time I got home. They were having a demonstration/sale of fish cooked in a bag with whatever veggies & seasonings appealed to shoppers. I tried it last year & was delicious so got the same.... piece of fresh salmon, few stalks of asparagus, little carrots & slice of lemon & pat of garlic butter. 3 min in the microwave when I got home & it really was more than I could eat for less than $5. Each cat got a bite of the salmon.
Came home with a nice eye of round roast, + 2 pack of chuck roasts (always one good one & one not so good), I will put half of each in 2 cast iron Dutch ovens & bake tomorrow, & add potatoes the last hour+. The eye of round I will slice & run through my tenderizer (3x) so each slice becomes a minute steak. This freezes uncooked & handy later. Also bought a pack of sausages that were being demonstrated, will freeze for the trip to CO, will make one meal for 3 hungry campers. The boys enjoy cooking over a campfire for me... these are easy & good, different flavor this time.
I know Joan & others aren't thrilled with camping, but this is one of the favorite joys in my world. We've learned to cope with having the cats along and they really do not seem to mind being confined, the sights out the windows keep them entertained day & night. These trips won't go on forever so I'm taking y'all along for now.... if you were around I'd be hugging everyone!
Larry, I've buzzed over to Photos thinking I'd get to see Jenny's photo of FL but didn't find it and got side tracked with what was going on there.... and then visited the Challenge & loved seeing all the collections. I do get side tracked & always did say that, "we got to see the neatest sights when I got us lost...."
Gloria I made one note on WordPad when I read posts earlier.... so I wouldn't forget.... for you to pass on to Regina. "Gloria, if she has trouble with paint drying it could be the white paint she uses. When I first started I bought zink white (Grumbacher) & since it mixes with all colors, waited forever for that first painting to dry. Didn't do much painting for a few years, moved and a neighbor that took the Famous Artist course by mail, told me to use Grumbacher's Titanium white and it made a world of difference." I paint "wet-in-wet" so want oils that don't get sticky when wet & drag other colors off the canvas. Everyone has their preferred methods, never know when a tip or trick clicks for someone else.
Lloyd, I do appreciate your generous offer but since the cats need to exercise & run the length of the RV at night, I have to lock doors & sleep in it because I can't let them be at a door if opened from the outside. They would jump out..... panic and would run until they found a place to hide. Even when visiting my daughter with the whole family there, I slept in the RV in their driveway. Lucky they have a secluded driveway with electricity to plug into on the porch so I had furnace (propane) & power to run the blower & watch TV. The cats didn't ask for this life & neither did I, but they were a lot of company for my husband & can't just get rid of them when their usefulness is over. Except for Tom getting car sick, it isn't too bad. They understand when I stop that they have to go to the bedroom so I can close them inside before I open a door.
Must go feed cats. Been a crazy day with cold wind & damp, not enough rain to do any good, but cats have not stayed out for long. Check in later, always for news of Joan but never go to bed without checking on this family.
Shirley, how on earth do you keep that pace?
Jane, I don't compare with all you do, seriously. You & Amy have got to be the most awesome "seniors" I know. I'd like to think you both are 30 years younger so I wouldn't feel so lazy, but I know you aren't. <sigh> Right now everything around me, house, yard & clutter.... is in total chaos and all I want to do is run away from home.
I have a load of darks in the washer & when it goes in the dryer I will take my Sat night bath. All cats are in for the night. At this moment, all is well. Sweet dreams and gentle hugs to Joan & EveryFriend. God Bless.
Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!
Shirley, I really wish I were half the person you think I am. And I wish I were close enough to you to go camping with you. If I said I was going to drive up into the mountains and camp, my kids would take away my car keys, my tent and my sleeping bag. They would not pack up and go along.
I have never gone "camping". I feel deprived. Proud of you girls who love to do it though.
I don't know where this day has gone...I do know I had another two hour nap this afternoon. Other than that, time was spent on the computer I guess.
Now it is time to hit the pillow and do a bit of reading before I sleep. Have a peaceful night dear hearts, and a happy tomorrow. Prayers, Hugs and Love. June
Good evening from Colorado.
Our flights both went smoothly today. It was hard to say goodbye to Bob's hometown. We sure had a nice time there. It is always good to be home. We had to run out to the grocery store for a few items to get by. Ate some dinner and I immediately fell asleep in my chair.
LARRY, there was no snow to be seen....guess it only snowed in altitude's over 6k feet. The rest got rain. Where it snowed it melted immediately. So we had no issues getting home at all. I sure was happy as I expected to see some.
There was a post commenting something about Mare? In my mind, I feel quite certain that Mare has passed away?
SHIRLEY, sure good to read that you are feeling better now. Please don't be over doing it with all that food you bought to cook.
I just can not keep my eyes open, so will wish you all a good night of rest.
Jenny
Good morning Eveyfriend! I'm sure JeanneLee will be along soon to open a new room at the Soda Shoppe soon so I'll try to come back later. I wish Everyfriend a lovely day!
Looks like we need to start another week without our Joan at the helm. Meanwhile, I hope this will serve the purpose: HERE (http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=331.msg80133#msg80133)
