If you look at what you have in life, you'll always have more. If you look at what you don't have in life, you'll never have enough.
-Oprah Winfrey
"All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this - as in other ways - they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it."
-- John Berger
I'll Never Smile Again
I'll never smile again
Until I smile at you
I'll never laugh again
What good would it do?
For tears would fill my eyes
My heart would realize
That our romance is through
I'll never love again
I'm so in love with you
I'll never thrill again
To somebody new
Within my heart
I know I will never start
To smile again
Until I smile at you
Within my heart
I know I will never start
To smile again
Until I smile at you
Until I smile at you
During a lesson about adjectives, my friend, an elementary school teacher, asked her class to describe their mothers. One boy described his mother's hair as auburn.
Impressed by his sophisticated word choice, my friend asked, "How do you know her hair color is auburn?" Her student replied, "Because that's what it says on the box."
Good Morning my dear friends.
BUBBLE, Thank you for your time and talent in keeping us informed and together in this place! You do such a great job all the time and sometimes I forget just how talented you are!
Now I have a silly confession! I was a day ahead of myself this week! My eye appointment isn't today! It's tomorrow! Now I have to rethink things and get through another day before I have the eye surgery! Sometimes I wonder if I still actually have a brain operating in my head. But I am grateful for all the good wishes! I'll just be using them tomorrow instead of today!
Cooper will be arriving soon and I'm pretty sure my Maryland daughter will be arriving sometime today! Otherwise, the day will be normal and tomorrow will be busy and different!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Go for it!
Good morning..
Crows were telling me it IS time for their breakfast.
Vehicle is back home and the ribs on my wallet are pronounced!! Rides and drives much better now... We will go visit sil today and then check at the Mennonites for small cucumbers for Kyle's dill pickles.
Bubble, ditto on what Jane said
Jane,I find it is so easy to get days mixed up.Sooner or later we get all our ducks in a row. :smitten:
Patricia, hope you had a great birday yesterday and enjoyed your cake.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Bubble, I agree; you are very talented and take such good care of us!
Jane, I'm very good at confusing dates and times. I think at this stage, we all become experts. Enjoy your day with Cooper and your time with him and your daughter.
Amy, we have a Mennonite community in Big Delta, just south of us. They have stalls at their community center along with some Old Believers similar to Amish, except they split from the Russian Orthodox Church about the same period the Amish separated in 1536. The Amish, Mennonites, and Old Believers share common, if distinct, roots.
It was a good birthday with not one but two cakes, even if one was the size of an extra-large cupcake! I had surprise company all day, and seeing them was such a gift. I'm unsure if Farrah thought so because one visit included a friend's grandkids. It was a good day, sunny with only a hint of haze.
Ditto what Patricia said to Bubble and Jane
Belated :hb3: to Patricia
Rather than sound like an echo, I'll just say "Same old same old" daily life around my house.
Nice to see some action in here today! However, my action is just about over for today. Tomorrow really is my appointment with the eye dr. so I'm off to bed to rest my eyes and the rest of me if it's possible.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. God bless!
If the regular lurkers would post it would be more interesting. I make no excuse for myself :knuppel2:
Good Morning Everyfriend! This might be my last post for a while. I'm not sure what to expect from the eye dr. But he did mention a patch on whichever eye he works on!
Cooper will be arriving in about a half hour and his Granny (my daughter Christy) will be arriving sometime this morning. She's supposed to text me when she leaves her Maryland home! As for me, once Cooper is taken care of and has his walk, I'll be getting ready for the dr.
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning...
Jane, prayers that all goes well today for you. Nice that Christy will be there to take care of you. Cooper will likely be right by your side till you are at your up and attem.
Not sure what today will bring will know better tonight.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Jane, I will join Amy in hopes of a good outcome for your doctor's visit and any recovery time. It'll be nice to have Christy there and Cooper too!
Amy, I've been slacking off and only doing the day-to-day chores, and it's beginning to show, at least for me, and I'm struggling between the things I need to do and a feeling of manana, on the other hand.
Just popping in to say goodnight..
Been a long day with work around home but I did get some sewing in
Jane, get a good nights rest..
Patricia, I have so many things on the back burner that sooner or later I will get at. Next is my pickles to do and after that maybe the back burner will get done.
Night..
I'll say good night here and join my Kindle on the couch with a mystery set in Hawaii during the lead-up to WWII.
Amy, We have a lightening caused bush fire about 48 miles from here, and the three close rivers are still running at flood stage with some minor puddling.
Now, we're told that these days of the mid-eighties are going to morph into the nineties until Tuesday when the weather should start the regular August cooldown.
I hesitate to think of what the coming winter will be like...
Jane, I hope you're ready for tomorrow, and all cozied up in Dreamland since it's half past six here, which means it must be past ten PM your time.
Amy and everyone else must be in the arms of Morpheus, and I'm still listening to one of the softball announcers from across the river.
Goodnight everyone and hope to see you again tomorrow!
Good morning...
Boy, we had a hum ding of a storm last night. , not a hum dinger as it wasn't too bad. Around 2.24 am rain started then the music with the light show but it didn't last too long. Long enough that I now have to go and set the clocks.
Kyle has an appointment with the Dr today , an afternoon appointment so will just go there and back home. Long weekend starts and trafic could be nasty!
Jane, good morning..now it is your turn to let others wait on you for a change as you have lovingly waited on them in the past.
Patricia,I also have misgivings of what is to come this winter. Need to get the snowblower in for a tune up before the dances begin.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Not as hot today but just as humid. But, one day closer to a cool, dry Autumn. I just need to be patient.
Sorry I missed your birthday, Angel. I hope it was a good one and that you will have even better ones to come.
Best wishes that the eye surgery goes well, Jane.
I was surprised by news from Canada about the prime minister's marital troubles.
I feel sorry for any family having to go through this. They seemed so suited to each other. Were you surprised, too, Amy?
David is off to pick up the grocery order so that chore will be done for the week.
I was going to bake a cake but it is so sticky humid I really don't want to turn on the oven. Maybe I'll try some cup cakes in the air fryer.....hmmmmm, thinking.
Take care, All. And hello to all of the lurkers here today.
Oh dear, I do have my work cut out ,went to the Mennonite market and came home with a bushel of cucumbers. Some will go into Kyles dill pickles :P and the rest will go into bread and butter pickles and sweet pickles. Hope this will do all that I want but we shall see.
Phyllis, no surprise..
Let us know how the cupcakes work in the a/f.sure beats heating up the house with the oven.
Good morning from another sunny, albeit smoky, Interior day. Typically August is rainy, bringing temperatures down into Fall, while September is very cool but beautiful.
Not this year, as the prognosis is for a slightly cooler, less rainy month. I don't believe I've ever spent a sunny August in the Interior, so I'm skeptical. And to have a summer fire season begin in late July? Someone got their days mixed up.
Thank you, Phyllis, it was a nice one.
Jane, I hope you're relaxed and being waited on today.
Amy, are you seeing more wildlife on the roads, or have they all settled in already? They are usually more active here as they enter winter preparations, but I no longer see or hear them. This is when the birds that don't head south will break up from single-species flocks and into huge multispecies flocks for better protection.
It's when the ravens return from the mountains and the swans, geese, ducks, and cranes start coming from the far reaches of the wildlife, refuge, and sanctuary and gorge on the grain laid down for them while they prepare for the long trip to winter quarters.
It also happens when many moose, caribou, and others follow the rivers into the town outskirts to escape the wolves harrying them.
Today will be spent giving away my money, bringing food and receipts home. I was going to go to the last week of the state fair but decided against it. Everyone is busy today, so I must take the bus and a taxi home. I'd rather stay home and save money, but when has that ever worked?
I was reading where Facebook will no longer carry news from Canada. Also, Google may do this too.
well good evening everyone. well I had big probblems with this computer. it got a bug in it and wanted me to type in a address it was giving me. I could not get it to where i could type there? so went in to the liveing room and got on that phone and was typing. but the man kept telling me somengthing. I could not understand what he was saying, I kept telling him I could not here what he was saying. so he hung up on me.when my grand deaughtet got home , i went out and ask her to come help me. and instead of her talking to hem she googled marcksoft. and they told her it was a good thing that they hung up on me, it was a scam steeling ideanty. I had tried severial times to hang up on it but it would not let me.they was trying to get enough info to steel my ideanty and get into my bank acount. I do no give that info out. so my grand deaughter was smaret enough to get microft on in a safey place and get it fixed. thank GOD for smart grand children and other people.
Lloyd
Lloyd, tis good to see you. There are too many scams willing to take a hard working persons money. Glad your grand daughter got you on line with no problems,
Lloyd! How nice to see you back online!

...welcome back...So glad to hear your granddaughter was " savvy " enough to pick up on this scam...There are some nasty - greedy people about, that all they are interested in is getting hold of innocents money..they dont care who they do it to..or how it will affect them..just callous..
Good morning...
Weather wise we were lucky in this area, areas to the south weren't so lucky. Flooding in some areas and hail in others while we we just had rain and the lightening show wih music.
Today will be a busy one, picking up new meds for and then home to get started on the pickles.
Talked with Jane last night and she is doing great. She is going back to the Dr today and I will call her again this evening.
Patricia, I hope you can home with all you needed and not so slim wallet. My car repairs have given my wallet a starvation diet! :2funny:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning; the unusual August weather continues with both fire and flood warnings. Instead of rain, we're having highs in the eighties and nineties with lightening caused fires the north and west of us. We have our highest summer temperatures instead of cooling down and August rains.
Amy, I also have a thinned-out wallet from yesterday. Thanks for letting us know how Jane's doing and letting her know we're thinking of her.
Today will be spent in the kitchen preparing chopped vegetables and different cuts of meat. I have some prepared freezer containers of soups and stews, but I need more.
Otherwise, more of the basics.
Just waiting on the canner to time out and there will be 33 pints of dill pickles for Kyle. Next will be chop and get ready peppers, onions and cucumber for the bread and butter pickles....miht do that tonight but may do it tomorrow. Will see how much steam I have left.
Patricia, you asked about the wildlife and not many other than a few raccoons, one porcupine and one deer have I seen. My heart went out to the mother raccoon as she checked her two babies that were killed on the road. Hate seeing animals killed on the highway.
I will tell Janie you were asking about her. When I talked with her last night I asked where Cooper was and she said right at my feet. :smitten:
Just talked with Jane,Dr is pleased with the way things are going and wants to see her back later next week. Will let her explain the procedure. Patricia, Jane said thank you for thinking of her.
:cheer: :cheer: :nanadance: :nanadance: :excited: :excited:   Good morning...
I see Miss Jane is here!!! Great way to start the day to see you!
Working in the kitchen making mustard pickles then prepare another batch and cut up cucmbers for a 11 day pickle.......I hope.
Weather is lovely with a starting temp of 50°
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning from a very smoky Interior. We're at 60 presently and headed back to yesterday's 90 degrees with fires to the north and west of us. This is the first time I remember having fires this close and in the ridges above the city. We're full of fire refugees.

Knock, knock.
Good morning..
Crows are making themselves known!! Two at the feed and two in the trees that are cawing at the top of their lungs!
Yesterday was productive, managed to get 24 jars of bread and butters done and 32 cups of cucumbers cut for icicle pickle. The icicle pickles take 11 days so no hurry on that. I would like to say a day of rest but still have more cucumbers to cut up.
Town is inundated with tourist ,a place to stay away from till the holiday is over .
Temp has cooled somewhat but will soon race to higher numbers. We have wanted summer but now that it is here with its heat, we want cooler weather.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm not sure how this will turn out. I'm doing it with one eye closed. When I went back on Friday, I thought to have the eye insert taken out for good, the Dr. said that it did a good job but not as much as he had hoped and that he was putting another one in until Wednesday of this coming week. I could actually tell that it had done some good because a picture on the door of his office that I usually saw two of, was only one that day!
I'm still sitting around with one eye closed and covered until Wednesday! And if I move my eyes, I'm supposed to move my whole head so both eyes go at once. I told AMY that the object that he inserted in my eye "is full of little sticks" (not really but that's what it feels like in my eye and I can't wait to get it out on Wednesday). I'm managing pretty well. Christy had to go home and will be back in time to take me to the dr. on Wed. My kids have been so good to me and when I try to say "Thank you", they just tell me they're not doing anything special. Just giving back! Isn't that great! I must have been an OK mother!
Now I'm quitting this. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! (Forgive any typing errors. I can't see them)
:smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: Good to "see" you Jane!!! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Jane, another day of listening to your music of pop pop pop as the jars seal. Noticed the store had cabbages on and will get some to make your cole slaw...we really enjoy that.
Better get going..
Jane S...
...good seeing a posting from you... :)
Good morning; we're under a red flag fire warning; it's a dense fog of smoke out there today; I can barely see anything that isn't close to me. We have southeasterly winds and will be in the nineties again later today. The entire world is on fire, Europe, Asia, North America...
I've just finished my morning meet and greets and was so pleased to see Jane checking in with us this morning and letting us know she's doing well, even if her eye insert feels like sticks.
Amy, you sound busy already although my morning is your afternoon. I always have a small grin when I check in and read that you, Jane and Rick have been up and at it at 2 and three o'clock in the morning. ;)
I hope to see a post from Lloyd today and perhaps a few others, soI'll leave with a hope that everyone's morning is going well and only gets better as the day goes on.
Good Morning,
Jane, so happy to see you back! Sorry about the "sticks in your eye" and hoping for good news on Wednesday.
Patricia, I think I've said before that the smoke was heavy all during our tour of Alaska - particularly between Fairbanks and Anchorage. I have a picture of the midnight sun behind a cloud of smoke.
Amy, I used to make pickles in much the same way as your icebox (eleven day) pickles. Mine were flavored with cinnamon "red hot" candies and we called them Christmas pickles because of the red color. They taste like watermelon pickles.
The sermon on tv church service this morning was on being content with your situation. Very appropriate for me because I have a small hairline fracture in my left ankle bone and have to wear a big heavy klunky boot for a month. >:( Have no idea how/when the fracture happened; pain started last weekend.
I've worn braces on both feet for years because of a congenital foot problem (Auxilliary Navicular Syndrome) and switch the boot for that brace at bedtime. I can also take the boot off to shower - thank goodness!
Granddaughter's wedding is in three weeks and family had already made arrangements for a wheel chair so I plan on switching to brace for that occasion, too.
Find something to enjoy about your day, Everyfriend.
Patricia, my get up and at'tem is now gone. There are 33 jars of mustard bread and butters done and I am now done too! It was a case of use the cucumbers or lose them and they are expensive enough to buy. I do have some in the garden but only in the flower stage. When I do canning etc I like to get a quantity and get it all done at once, with the garden you can only get some much at a time.
Callie, your pickles sound interesting an d now I am going to look for watermelon pickle recipes. Hope your foot heals fast for you.
Amy, the pickels are made from a big amount of cucumbers.. They just taste like ones made with watermelons
Years ago, when I lived in western Kentucky, I used to pickle watermelon rind following a recipe from my then-mother-in-law. I wonder if that's the same pickle?
Callie, this isn't as bad as it was when you were here, and we're supposed to have thundershowers starting late tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday. It smells like a big barbeque outside but no drifting smoke in the houses. We're encircled on three sides.
I gave all my canning supplies and recipes to my dil years ago. I found this recipe on-line for what we called Christmas Pickles (https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/228064/red-hot-cinnamon-pickles/).
Good morning
Strong possibility of rain today! Putting away the spoils from yesterday and washing floors . I don't know of anyone that can pickle/can without making a mess on the floors. Will have company later on today then I am going to do zip, nada, put my feet up and no nothing.
Callie, the pickles sound interesting.Would be rather festive along side green gerkins at Christmas.
Patricia, hope the fires are soon out.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
CALLIE, you gave me that recipe and there are a couple jars of those pickles in my cupboard. In fact, I just put one in the fridge a couple days ago. I'm waiting for Christy to come back to open it. I could probably find the recipe if I could see better! We love them!
It's nice to "see" all of you again! But I can't stick around this morning. I have to get dressed and take Cooper for a walk. We've been having nights in the high 50s and days that reach the low 80s sometime after lunch time. Not our usual summer days but I like it!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
P.S. This is the first day of my eye work that I've felt like hitting the computer first thing in the morning!
We just finished the last batch of pickles. My version only takes a few hours and then they are ready to eat. I don't can anything and never did. I remember my mother slaving over boiling water in brutally hot Kansas weather and chopping and slicing one kind of fruit and veg. after another. My first thought was that's too much work. I am going to find an easier way to do it or buy it from the local grocery store....or get it from a kind neighbor in exchange for something I gave her. That has worked for me for all of my life. Don't plan to change now. ;D
Are you just announcing that you are with us, Rammel, or did we miss a "knock, knock" joke?

Just wondering if anyone was home.
Heavy, well needed rain here for today. I love pickled watermellon rind, but at this point it is too sweet for my "diet". Would drive my BS up.
Good morning; glad to see Jane and so many here. Things aren't so good here; dense smoke and one of the encircling fires have crept to only 46 miles away. We are under a fire watch, coming down from two weeks in the nineties, and the forecast for today is for thundershowers with lightning. How do you move a city of over 100,000 bursting with fire refugees when the fires cover the highways? We're used to being the fallback point, not the one needing to fall back.

Traffic is bumper to bumper out there!! We had an appointment to get Babes nails cut and I am so glad to be back home. THe young lady was so good with Babe and we will be going back again. Rain has also put a push on the tourists to go back home and it lets me out of a job
Patricia, stay safe!!!
Rick , what if the pickles were done with Splenda instead of sugar?
Quote from: Amy on August 07, 2023, 01:47:04 PMRick , what if the pickles were done with Splenda instead of sugar?
That would be good. Does anyone do that?
I posted Callie's recipe in What's For Dinner
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=240112
I think it's time for me to get off this blasted computer! I don't know if my eyes are the way they are from the Dr. messing around or all the time I spent on the computer today!
We had a really hard thunderstorm for a few hours this late afternoon and evening. There was also a threat of tornadoes in this area. I don't have a basement so I closed all the doors and kind of hid out in the hall. But nothing hit around here but a lot of thunder and a lot of rain. I'm curious as to where and even if the tornadoes hit nearby! The last time they warned about tornadoes, a building about a mile from my house was hit! Kind of scary! Now I'm going to go rest my eyes.
I wish you all happy nights and days!
I think that storm is headed this way.
Thank you, Patricia. :)
Janie, if we don't have a basement or a storm shelter, it's suggested that we get in the bathtub and cover ourselves with pillows or quilts if a tornado is approaching. I don't have a basement or a storm shelter, either so I sit in the closet that's right behind my shower.
A long ago friend said she was going to get in the toilet because she'd noticed that was the only thing left standing when a house was destroyed. She was a...ummm..."traditionally built" woman and the mental picture was ;D.
1% ers - Hard to believe but this includes many of us.
99% of those born between 1930 and 1946 (worldwide) are now dead.
If you were born in this time span, you are one of the rare surviving one percenters of this special group.
Their ages range is between 77 and 93 years old, a 16-year age span.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE 1% ERS:
§ You are the smallest group of children born since the early 1900's.
You are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war that rattled the structure of our daily lives for years.
You are the last to remember ration books for everything from gas to sugar to shoes to stoves.
You saved tin foil and poured fried meat fat into tin cans.
You can remember milk being delivered to your house early in the morning and placed in the "milk box" on the porch.
Discipline was enforced by parents and teachers.
You are the last generation who spent childhood without television; instead, you "imagined" what you heard on the radio.
With no TV, you spent your childhood "playing outside".
There was no Little League.
There was no city playground for kids.
The lack of television in your early years meant that you had little real understanding of what the world was like.
We got "black-and-white" TV in the late 40s that had 3 stations and no remote.
Telephones were one to a house, often shared (party lines), and hung on the wall in the kitchen (no cares about privacy)
Computers were called calculators; they were hand-cranked.
Typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ribbon.
'INTERNET' and 'GOOGLE' were words that did not exist.
Newspapers and magazines were written for adults and the news was broadcast on your radio in the evening (your dad would give you the comic pages when he read the news).
New highways would bring jobs and mobility. Most highways were 2 lanes (no interstates).
You went downtown to shop. You walked to school.
The radio network expanded from 3 stations to thousands.
Your parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war, and they threw themselves into working hard to make a living for their families.
You weren't neglected, but you weren't today's all-consuming family focus.
They were glad you played by yourselves.
They were busy discovering the postwar world.
You entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where you were welcomed, enjoyed yourselves.
You felt secure in your future, although the depression and poverty were deeply remembered.
Polio was still a crippler. Everyone knew someone who had it.
You came of age in the '50s and '60s.
You are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no threats to our homeland.
World War 2 was over, and the cold war, terrorism, global warming, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life.
Only your generation can remember a time after WW2 when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty.
You grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better.
More than 99% of you are retired now, and you should feel privileged to have "lived in the best of times!"
If you have already reached the age of 77 years old, you have outlived 99% of all the other people in the world who were born in this special 16 year time span. You are a 1% 'er"!
Patricia, that is all of me! It sums it all.
Good Morning! That's me, too. And out of me and two sister born in that era, two of us are still going strong! My sister is 89. She's 16 months older tha me! And she still lives alone and takes care of herself. I guess we had a good start!
Good morning..
cloudy morning and will be that way most of the day with periods of rain. We lost our power last night, not for long but now the clocks need attention. There was no storm in the area so maybe a traffic acciden that took out a pole??
Finally have no fear of the floors gettin up and going to the lake to get clean. Today ,I will coast and hope to sew..have my birds in the cabin to finish, then move on to another quilt.
Patricia, thank you for posting the recipe...makes me want to try them ,will see as I still have beets and Janies cole slaw and some peaches to can.
Rick,I would assume you can get them in the stores....will check for you.
Better get a move on.
What percentage am I in, Patricia? I was born in 1929...three weeks before the stock market crash that began the Great Depression. Your chart doesn't even go back that far. :o That makes me 93 and I will be 94 in October. Apparently, I am so old I am in the less than 1% group.
Big storms went through here last night. I was prepared to go down to the basement but didn't have to. Trees down everywhere and lots of power outages. Several thousands are still without power. We had a short blip but came right back on. We were lucky....one large limb came down in the back yard but did no damage. Sunny and humid today. Back up into the 90's. Summer is still with us.
Good morning, folks; we didn't have any of the wind, rain, or promised thunder and lightning. I don't know where it went, but none came here. They're saying wait until tomorrow for rain and Friday for the thundershowers and wind.
Everyone is cautioned to stay inside because of the dense smoke, telling us it's unhealthy. I think most of us could have told them that. It seems the entire world is either ablaze or flooded, and there's no going back; this is our new normal.
Phyllis, since "99% generational one percenters "born between 1930 and 1946 worldwide are now dead," I'd say you are in a rare generation. From Wikipedia, "The Silent Generation, also known as the Traditionalist Generation, is the Western demographic cohort following the Greatest Generation and preceding the baby boomers. The generation is generally defined as people born from 1928 to 1945. By this definition and U.S. Census data, there were 23 million Silents in the United States as of 2019. '
From the Britiantania Encyclopedia, "Silent Generation, generation of people sandwiched between the "Greatest Generation," which fought World War II, and the "baby boomers," the generation born during the surge in births in the United States and other countries in the years immediately following the war. The range of birth years ascribed to the Silent Generation varies slightly according to the generational scheme employed, beginning with either 1925, 1928, or 1929 and ending with either 1942 or 1945. In the early 2020s the Silents were mostly in their 80s and 90s.
Constituting roughly 50 million individuals in the United States, this generation was both less populous (owing to diminished birth rates in the 1930s and '40s) and, at first blush, seemingly less dynamic than the larger-than-life generations that bookended it. Sometimes also called "Traditionalists," the members of this cohort are generally characterized as cautious conformists who sought stability, worked hard, and thrived by not rocking the boat in an era of booming postwar economic prosperity. But a closer look reveals a rebellious tendency that slowly emerged across the social, political, and cultural landscape during the years in which they came of age—roughly the late 1940s to the early 1960s—even if it was rebellion more grounded in reforming the system rather than in tearing it down." https://www.britannica.com/topic/Silent-Generation
I was born in 1951; we're the babyboomer generation who thought we never would get old and that we had changed the world. Unfortunately, the world continuing on unchanged was a harsh lesson for many of us.
Lloyd's getting closer but still has a ways to go. I found him in photos.
Good Morning everyone. we are at 68º and clear skyes. I slept in this moning un till 930 Am. I had milk toast for breakfeast, with lot of butter. Have a good day today and a better tomorow.
Lloyd
Nice to know LLOYD is still around. I miss people when we don't hear from them.
Nice to hear from PHYLLIS, too. I don't care which category you find yourself in, just keep on hanging on!
I'm heading for the haystack. Tomorrow I go to get the "sticks" out of my eye and then we'll see what has happened. I've been concentrating on what I'm seeing and I do not see double any more. If that's the only improvement, I'll take it! But I'm thinking that he expects me to see better out of that eye. It won't take much to make that happen! I couldn't see much of anything out of that eye anyway.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. God bless!
Good morning...
Not sign of rain today, but will have rain and t storm tomorrow .Will get the outside work done I hope later today.
Kyle goes for blood work this morning and if we are lucky the line won't be too long! He was in and out of the hospital yesterday for an xray in good time! We thouht here we go a 2-3 hour wait but no one ahead of him made our wait maybe 30 min!
Better get the pups fed and us ready.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!Right now the temp here is 65 but headed for a high of 84. Not too bad for this time of year.
I can't wait for this afternoon and my visit to the eye dr. I hope all's well and I don't have to go through any more of this "stuff" in my eye! I'll try to come back to let you know what's happening. Enjoy your day, Everyfriend. Make it a good one!
Good morning. We finally had some rain yesterday, which was noticed, even if the dense smoke never lessened. People on the bus discussed whether the signs were changing in light, scent, or smell, as we couldn't see any clouds through the smoke.
The random discussion between strangers continued through the mall and into the grocery before we heard the rumbles, thuds, and sharp booms of approaching thunder and the pounding of rain. There were cries of praise and then rude exclamations when the lights flickered and went out.
Everyone had to leave their carts, and we all gathered in the cart area before the thirty-minute pounding stopped, the lights returned, and we were allowed back to our waiting carts. Through it all, the smoke prevailed.
I read about Maui, where people jumped into the ocean to escape marauding wildfires caused by strong winds from Hurricane Dora, so I can't complain.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/it-s-apocalyptic-people-jump-into-the-ocean-to-flee-maui-wildfires-as-patients-overwhelm-hospitals-and-911-gets-cut-off/ar-AA1f0tYn?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=42e975ba02bb473ea38d0719be0b3c17&ei=16
HE TOOK THE "STICKS" OUT OF MY EYES! For the first time in "I don't know how long, I'm not seeing double out of my left eye! I think I'm in love with that eye dr. and he's less than half my age!
Now I have to change my clothes and take a walk! Have a good rest of the day!
Good Night Everyfriend!
Shame on me again....I got so far behind reading your nice posts. Seems
I have just so much going on that I just cannot keep up🤪
JANE, I am so pleased to read that the eye doctor did a great job on your eye and now you are not seeing double‼️ How wonderful. I hope you are sleeping well tonight🥰🥰
CALLIE, I am sorry to read about the crack in your foot. I hope it heals well. I can't believe it is nearly the wedding time🥰
AMY, I sure appreciated you checking on me‼️
There is a lot going on in our family.
The one thing I am so pleased to share is that Dr. Dave is engaged to a wonderful lady. We like her a lot and are so happy that they have found each other. They do not plan to marry until next June. Dave want his oldest son to have a special senior year of high school. His lady has two daughters, 10 and 12. I will finally have 2 more granddaughters❣️
We got home this afternoon from a nice overnight visit to Vail with our oldest son and grandson from Boston. It was so good to get to spend time together.
Our Colorado grands all started back to school this week. Seems strange as we feel like we really did not have much of a summer due to cool temperatures and all the rain we had.
I wish you all a good night....sleep well.
Jenn
Good morning..
Weather is to be rain with tstorms today sure hope it holds off till I get the outside work done. The past couple of days have ben busy and I hope it soon slows down.
Jane, I forgot to tell you last night. I was at the kitchen window and the crows were flying in for their buffet. I told Kyle to come and see all the crows ,I was counting and said 9 crows!! He was counting also and looked at me and said 7, no I said 7 outside and two old crows watching them!!
Patricia, I hope things are better and the fires have simmered down . Hope the rain put them out!Stay safe.
Jenny good to see you.Good that Dr Dave found someone special in his life. You have been busy with family! School starts in Sept here.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone.
Amy, we haven't had any rain since that thirty-minute deluge the other day. They keep promising rain, always the next day, and so far, none and no sign of any different than what's forecast.
The smoke is denser than ever, but if you look around the world, that's happening in so many other places and with so much loss of life, damage, and history. You feel presumptuous complaining when so many have so much worse.
Even the buildings falling into the rivers after glaciers have melted aren't unique to our capital city, as the same is happening in Norway. Harry Truman once said, "There is nothing new in this world except for the history you do not know."
I liked your old crows' bit. I wish I were that creative on the fly. I also wish I could see more wildlife here, but I'm no longer very active outdoors, and presently access to the wildlife refuge and sanctuary is closed.
I'm sure Jane is happy to have the "sticks" and seeing double gone and that when she checks in, it will be more of the same.
Good morning Jenny, it's nice to see you this morning and with good news.
Today is Junee's one hundredth and one birthday! Now that is a milestone! If she receives the usual congratulatory letter from the king, that will be a bit of history as she received one last year from Elizabeth.
Good Morning or Noon or whatever it is! I've been busy doing laundry today and changing beds for company for the weekend!
I went to bed with a scratchy eye and when I woke up in the middle of the night it occurred to me that maybe doing some of the moisturizing drops in the middle of the night would help. IT DID! Now, whenever it gets a bit itchy, I use the moisturizer drops!
JENNY, it's so nice to see you check in with us. Congrats to your son for finding a lovely lady to share the rest of his life! That's special!
AMY, keep watching those OLD crows...both inside and outside!
It's raining off and on here today and I'm hoping they have it right for the interlude so Cooper and I can get a walk in without getting soaked!
Enjoy the rest of your day! Make it a good one, whatever you do!
Good Night...if there's anyone around to hear it!
I'm here. --- but nodding off.
So sad to hear the news about the fires in Maui. We were lucky enough to see Lahaina on our Hawaii Cruise back in February. It poured rain the entire time we were there but we sure enjoyed seeing the area and the HUGE Banyan Tree😩 The news is causing a lot of upset with memories about out terrible fire here in the Boulder area. These type of fires spread so quickly with the raging winds. So many lives lost and businesses/ home that are gone FOREVER 😩
JANE, I hope you can use the moisturizing drops as often as needed to relieve the itching in your eye.
HAPPY 101th BIRTHDAY to JUNEE❣️ WOW, how exciting. I hope she did get a Birthday greeting from the new King🥰
Haha, AMY. Love the counting of the crows‼️‼️
Pleasant dreams to all.
Jenny
Good morning..
Love these cooler mornings , no rain is happening today so outside work will (I hope) get done. Taking neighbour in to pick up his vehicle ,then home to decide how much to trim off the trees.
Back ribs are on sale and I want to cook up a few racks then seal a meal them for the freezer.
Jane, hurray for the drops!! Happy to read that they do work for you!!
Patricia, sounds like we are in for more rain/storm tomorrow. If it is like in the past we will just get a bit and not all the pounding downpour that others have had.
Jenny, watching the fires in Maui is heart breaking. Between fires and floods this year has been a year to forget! Now, a new varient of covid is starting up EG.5
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I just wanted to let you know that I had an email from Gloria Zifchok. She's currently living in a nursing home and trying to get used to a new laptop computer! She said she's going to try to find her way back in here so be on the lookout for her! She doesn't seem happy to be in the nursing home but her son thought she needed it so that's where she'll be!
Have a great day
It is so nice to hear from Junee in Australia. Nice to know that someone who is even older than I am is still here in S&F. Keep coming back, Junee......love hearing from you.
And, to hear from Gloria by way of Jane is a wonderful surprise. I knew her children had moved her to someplace where she would get assistance more easily if she needed it. I know that Gloria didn't want to go but it should ease her mind not having to deal with the problems she had to deal with before. Hope she can get her new computer going soon. I have missed her.
Congratulations to Dr. Dave, Jenny. It's nice that he is moving on from such a sad time in his life.
Hot today but not quite as hot....90 deg. expected and no thunder storms or tornados. David is off to the grocery store. I'll help put things away when he gets back and then decide what mischief I want to get up to.
Take care, All.
Jane, thank you for the news on Gloria. How is your eye this morning?
Neighbour shuttled to pick up his truck, trugs moved, ribs in oven and now to tackle the tree limbs..
We were going to take them today to the dump but traffic is a toot so tomorrow we will load up and go..
Good morning EVERYFRIEND‼️. Wishing you all a nice Friday morning. We sure are enjoying having the doors open and letting cool air come in.
So happy to hear that GLORIA is getting set up to join us again. I think of her often and hoped she is doing well. Thank you JANE for sharing this news.
I thank you all for the nice supportive comments regarding Son Dave. PHYLLIS, it is just so nice to see Dr. Dave smiling and happy again🥰
AMY.....as always you and Kyle are ON THE MOVE again this morning. Yummmm, ribs in the oven‼️
There is a lot of new cases of the EG.5 virus with hospitals filling up again😩. You are spot on for this being a year to remember with all the fires, floods and tornadoes.....now MORE COVID😩😩. UGH😡
JANE, hope the eyes are feeling better and better.
Have a wonderful day💐
Jenn
Rick , I didn't forget about the sugar free pickles just needed to slow down a bit and look. I did find some at your Walmart store. Hopethis helps you.

Good morning from a still smoky Interior with all the forecasted promises of rain still a mirage. I feel horrible about the news of catastrophic fires and floods around this poor earth. It's so true that you reap what you've sown.
It is nice to hear news from Gloria, Jane. I hope she's able to return. Now about Lloyd, Beverly, and others...
Morning Jenny, it's nice that Dave and family are enjoying life again!
Phyllis, today I read about a woman's 114th birthday celebration with five generations of family. She was born during the Taft administration.
Amy, you are always busy while I search for the energy to do more than the morning routine. You could make a mint by bottling and selling that energy! I can see it now in bold red print in a circular, Canadian woman finds the secret to a compromise-free life! The residuals alone would be substantial  8) ;)
Mt.Olive pickles are made right here in N.Carolina and I can tell you they are good. You won't go wrong with them, Rick. Amy made a good choice for you.
Jane, I meant to say that I am so glad that your eyes have improved. I'm having a problem with dry eyes, a common complaint for us older people. My optician has me using Systane eye drops and eye wipes for inflammation. It helps briefly but I think I should do as you did and find an Optometrist who could give me better options. I know that I use these devices too much and that strains the eyes. If I am not on the desk computer, I am looking at either the pad, or my phone, most of the day and often times during the night. All of that takes a toll on my eyes. Besides being a reader I am also a news junkie. Don't know if I could exist without my eyes.
So now I will turn this computer off and think about dinner. Take care, All.
Amy, - Thanks for that PICKLE info. My son does our food shopping so will put him on to the NSA (No sugar added)pickles. Both Vlasic and Mt.Olive are brands I recall around here. It would be nice if he spots the pickled watermelon rind.
Phyllis - Thanks for that evaluation of Mt.Olive. I've always stuck with the known brands, and those I've had and liked. Will add the Mt.Olive to those. Thinking about pickles has my mouth watering.
Well I have a busy time coming up! My neighbor across the street was over this moring with a bag asking me if I want some zucchini. I accepted it and discovered that it has two immense zucchini in it. Along with what Christy brought from her carden, we could be eating it forever. Or....I could can it! I tried looking up how to can it and I found what I thought was a a good one. However, when I went to print it, they inserted all kinds of little notes from fancy chefs and it was right over the instructions. I tried going back and copying what it covered and I got most of it by the last one didn't go away.
Have any of you ever canned zucchini? I'm open for suggestions.
I've read everything in here and there's lots of good news...from all of you! I'm especially happy for Dave! He deserves the best! I had another email from GLORIA and she's still trying to come in here!
Have a great day Everyfriend!
JaneS put it in your food prosser snd griend it and freeze it, that is what Nancy dose. Lots of things you can do with it that way. my left eye is swolen mostly shut this morning, I acused Nancy of hitting me but she swares she never
Good morning..
My morning started out on the run....to the hospital! Kyle, woke me he was having trouble breathing after getting a med stuck. Dr said that his throat was swelling up but would be better after a bit.
Laundry is on the go, tree limbs won't be loaded to the dump as the rain put a damper on that!
Rick ,you're welcome.
Phyllis, thank you for your help on the pickles.
Jane, I don't think I would can it as a veggie. You can do thishttps://www.healthycanning.com/zucchini-pineapple
I made a zuchinni marmalade aand it is also good. As Lloyd said grate it up ,freeze it for muffins/cakes etc.
Better get back to work.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Jane. check your email. :)
Another cooler morning to enjoy here in the Mile High City.
Gee, I sure wish I could find some nice yellow squash or zucchini to buy. I love them both and the ones in the grocery store look awful😩
We just finished pitting a couple of pounds of cherries.....what a mess‼️
We are going to Dave's this evening for dinner to help celebrate Dave's youngest son's birthday. Luke turned 15 yesterday‼️ The entire group of them went to Meow Wolf today. We passed as I really do not think I would enjoy it.
AMY, sad to hear you had to take Kyle to the hospital.......good to read it proved to be nothing too serious.
Need to get a move on.
Enjoy your day EVERYFRIEND💐
Oh my gosh? I'm so glad Kyle is ok! I bet that was scary!
Christy isn't home from her High School Class Reunion yet but I'm hitting the haystack and Frankie is already in the haystack. It's a big one so it can accommodate all of us and Cooper, too.
Good Night Everyfriend! Sleep Well and wake up happy!
Good morning...
More rain on the way today. We had pounding rain with music yesterday. In the evening we lost power but it soon came back on.
Today we are meeting friends to exchange goodies, then home to maybe load the brush up...that all depands on the weather.
Jane ,Jenny, Kyle is much better this morning. Still talks with a deep raspy voice but will get better.
Better get all my oars in the water and get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good-morning all. Hope everyone has a nice calm day.
We had a "Severe thunderstorm warning." around 2:15 this morning. If it happened I must have slept through it. Nice out now.
Good morning, altho I am not shure of that. well we are curently Having thunder storms at 8 am. Nancy and I spent six Hours in the emergency room of the hospitial last night. she had a bad red streak running up her left arm. the docter gave her a script to get filled for a antibottic. they gave her a I iv thinge, and drew blood. as much blood they take I think they are selling it. have a good day today and a better tomorrow. see you all later.
Lloyd
Rick , my hubby sleeps through storms as does the neighbour, they both take their hearing aids out! :)
Lloyd, I hope the antibiotics work for Nancy..
Good morning, everyone; well, the smoke has cleared; I hope this means that yesterday's steady rain did some good. This month has been different for us, but a bizarre month seemingly shared by the rest of the world.
In the past, August usually brings almost daily rains and cooling temperatures. This year's late fire season was an anomaly shared globally. I cannot fathom Hawaii's victim count of 93 so far.
Lloyd, I'm so glad you and Nancy received those antibiotics. Doctors and insurance companies do very well these days.
Amy, I wish I could have slept better last night. Someone was parading around town, and I was positive they must have had a microphone hooked up to their car stereo.
Since our city center has morphed into more of a business district with shops and clubs migrating to the suburbs, I have no idea who they thought they were serenading. I'm turning into that stereotypical old lady, aren't I?
Nothing new here; no one in the meet and greets has had any get-togethers. Everyone is selling, moving, or settling into new places and new addresses, and no one has the energy or cash for otherwise.
Well, everyone has gone....even the Cooper-Snoop! I'm all alone once more. Now I'm just waiting for Christy to text me that she's arrived back home in Maryland. It takes her about 2-1/2 hours to get home from here. I think, after she texts me, I'll be going to sleep early. I'm bushed!
I love it when the kids visit but it's not like it used to be. I keep going and going and going and when they leave there's no more going! Tomorrow, I'm going to be working on the vegetable canning so I'll be getting lots of rest tonight!
AMY, I'm glad to hear that KYLE is in recovery mode.
RICk, I'm glad you didn't get a storm that shook you awake! I don't hear much at night with my ears over on the dresser. Makes for good sleeping!
PATRICIA, you had a (most unwanted) concert in the street. I always wonder if the people who are driving around in cars with the radio loud enough to hear 2 streets away are hard of hearing. If they're not, they will be soon!
Gotta go get ready to watch Mannix and then take a walk right after that! And then head for the haystack right after that! Sleep soundly! Rest well! Wake rested!
Hello all. This time I didn't forget to log in: I had technical issues and BUBBLE-who else- bailed me out. Tomereader I appreciated your comments; I miss doing my radio show more than I miss anything else, and I guess over 30 years on air has got into my blood. I wouldn't even be able to make a comeback because I gave my cd/record collection to one of my sons, so I burned that bridge behind me as well. And I can say that watching my collection go out the door was heartbreaking; I've been collecting records and cds since I was a kid, and what I gave away was literally a lifetime of work. But life has to go on. I had no space in my residence anyway so it had to be done. I haven't really got over all of this but I'm making the most of it. Thank God for a site like Seniors And Friends where I can share my thoughts with such a caring and understanding group/
Don, --- You miss doing the Show - we miss hearing it.
It's sunny and 80 degrees out there. I'm wondering if August got the wrong memo this year.
Jane, I think the majority of those are drunk, although I've seen some cars literally rocking and rolling while waiting for a turn signal or light to change midday.
Rick and Don, many of us miss that and so many other parts.
We have had rain off and on today. We got a surprise when we got home from town ,the brush was all loaded and ready to go to the dump! We are so blessed with good neighbours!
Jane, I bet you are tired right down to your toe nails. I hope Kyle is still in recovery mode as he fell in the shower! Will see how bruised or not he is come morning.
Patricia, not nice of that person to have their music that load. Check into your noise bylaw.
Don, good to see you. We would also be lost without Bubble and her help.
Don...
...i still hold the memories that one Sunday you mentioned - dedicated a classical record to me " to Jackie in UK " live on your radio show...I was listening in to it...
Good morning..
We are off and running....no that's not right, running isn't a term I should use.Running is in the past. I have a dental appointment and from there heading to the city to pick up a few things. Then home to make up the syrup for the pickles and in 5 more days I can jar them.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It was nice to open up this morning and see so many "friends" in S&F.... AMY, JACKIE, DON, PATRICIA! I'll be looking in later for more. Right now, I have to get dressed and get started on the zucchini! I'm not sure when Cathy will be coming to help with my errands but I need to be ready for that, too.
No Cooper today! Frankie has the day off and they usually sleep in and then do chores at home!
Have a good day, Everyfriend! A better one than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning, another cooler but still sunny day; folks are out and enjoying their smoke-free day.
All is well at the dentist back in another 6 months. We managed to get some shopping done then high tail it home.
Patricia, I bet everyone enjoys the smoke free days. Here we shut windows and stayed in ,only going out if necessary. Kyle ended up with no souvenirs (bruises) from his fall, going to wrap him in bubble wrap. :)
Jane, are you finished canning the zuchinni? Bri canned yellow squash for the dogs but said they had some and it was good!! I would have thought it would have went to mush.
Better drain the pickles and make the syrup, would rather rest but...
Yep! I'm all finished canning the zucchini following the recipe in the Ball Blue Book (The Bible of Canners). All 7 jars have popped (for those of you who don't can, that means they're safely sealed!) They look gorgeous but since this is the first time I've ever canned zucchini, I don't know what to expect when I open my first jar!
I'll have the Cooper-Snoop tomorrow and I don't have anything in the fridge that needs my attention. After my eye appointment at 12:30 on Wednesday, we're going to hit the Farmers' Market and then I'll have red beets to do and maybe some corn!
PATRICIA, I bet you're really enjoying the smoke free day! I hope it continues into tomorrow!
Now I'm going in the living room and collapse. I'm going to turn on the TV but I bet I'll sleep through whatever comes on! Have a good rest of the day Everyfriend! This one was a good one for me!
AMY, I'm glad KYLE is all discolored and achy! He was lucky and I bet the bubble wrap will help!
Take it easy!
Just checking in and saw that Shirley is also here...if this is family of Shirley please join us.
Jane, I will be interested on how the zuchinni turns out also. Did you cut in chunks or slices? Don't you just love the sound of music...pop pop pop :)
I think the freestone peaches are in and may do some of those down. I don't care for the store bought ones as the syrup is way to sweet and peaches are hard.
I just saw a post on Face Book "eluding" that our Don Reid may have just passed away.....the post has been taken down now.
PLEASE TELL us this is NOT true, BUBBLE😩
Jenny, Don was just in here yesterday. I hope this is a mistake on FB.
There are several Don Reid's.
Good late afternoon at 3:44 and 69 degrees presently. We're aiming for 77 today, and I wonder why it takes all day to reach a high when it doesn't take all of a winter day to achieve a low.
Jane, I would love to have a dog or even a second cat, but I know I tend to go overboard without imposed limits. Plus, taking a pet to the dog yard at minus forty and below? In 2016, I was not only permanently fostering a senior cat but five others until they found a home, all in a two-bedroom apartment.
Farrah, who now believes she's fostering me, might not take kindly to other animals. After paying your pet deposit, the limit is one cat or dog that is twenty pounds or less. I've heard that birds are limited to one also.
I also hope it was a mistake listing Don as gone. It is too soon. I hope Rick is right.
My mom used to can zucchini along with multiple other vegetables as she had an acre planted yearly for vegetables, plus other fruits and berries. My dad also hunted each fall for our family of five. My parents worked full-time and hunted and gardened the rest of the time. Living in a territory, it was a necessity.
Our entire town is enjoying our smoke-free day after the weeks of dense smoke from our late fire season. This is strange for us with the warm temperatures and sunny skies as August usually is the month of cooling temperatures and almost constant rain, neither of which we've seen. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I'm horrified by the reports coming out of Maui with a death toll of 100, with only three percent of the area searched. Some people leaped into the ocean and remained there for five hours. I don't understand so many things going wrong at the same time.
Good morning.
Starting out overcast and good possibility of rain today.
Not sure what is happening today, too many wanting to be done jobs to choose. Think I will flip a coin and see whic one wins. :)
Patricia, the fires in Maui took away lives and the heritage from the area. We have no control over fire wind and water. :( It will takes years to rebuild and I can't help if some have just lost heart to do so.
Better start the day..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who shows up today! I'm on an "in between" day today. There are things that need done but only one thing is hollering. I have to deal with the bacon I bought yesterday. I think I'm going to cook half of it and freeze the other half!
Tomorrow we're hitting the Farmers' Market and after that, I'll be making my beet relish and probably freezing some other stuff I'll pick up there.
Better get going on the bacon before Cooper decides it's time for his second walk! Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning; I'm early today, still in the middle of my meets and greets session at 5:49 am. I've tidied and made coffee, and I plan to continue the start I made yesterday of wiping down my oven from yesterday's self-clean and cleaning the refrigerator, so I can put in the new shelf backing I bought on the 4th. I will need to gather and wash my net fruit bags too.
Perhaps I can get the vacuum hose attachment and go around the various room edges I've neglected. They're not bad, only nagging at me because I've ignored them for too long. It's not the big things that'll get you; it's the little things that are seemingly ignorable that will bring you down.
Amy, we're meeting at both ends today; I'm usually one of the last to post; Jane must be too busy to start us off this morning. There you are, Jane; I saw you snuck in ahead of me. Enjoy being Miss in between today!
Good morning all. One of those dark, rainy days here today.
I look in here often but am one of few words.
Need coffee. Have a good one all.
Rick, I'm addicted to strong black coffee, up to 12 cups a day. It's the first thing I do after shutting off that alarm. I should probably drink less, but...
Quote from: patricia19 on August 15, 2023, 11:16:43 AMIt's the first thing I do after shutting off that alarm.
Me too, but no longer black. While in the Navy milk wasn't always available. After some "marginal" stomach problems I started putting some milk in it. But it's part of my daily routine. Always when I get up, and at "tea time" - coffee and a piece of pie. Randomly at other times.
Now that you mention it, I think I'll ---------.
Amy, I've had a bunch of those "things I have to do" days and since I am so slow to do anything it takes a lot longer to get them all done and if I can accomplish that then I have to take a long rest. :2funny:
I had to text birthday greetings to my DIL and I am slower than a snail at texting. I envy all these young people (younger than I am, I mean) that have fast fingers. I guess I should be glad that I can use a keyboard at all now.
And then I got a message from a friend that is fighting brain cancer. She and her husband have to fly to Germany every week for 6 weeks to undergo experimental treatment at a clinic there. She is doing pretty well but won't know for a while if it is working. It is a grueling schedule for them but if it works it will be worth it.
Patricia, you drink as much coffee as my former sister-in-law did. She had a pot going all the time and a cup in her hand most of the time. I have to have a cup first thing after I get up but that is all I have. Menier's Disease doctor said I should not drink coffee at all but I have to have a cup to get me started on the day. Then I switch to tea in the afternoon......save a piece of pie for me, Rick, please.
You sound as though you are not slowing down, Jane. How are you eyes doing? The canned zucchini won't be crunchy but it is great for soup, casseroles, and makes very tasty zucchini bread. I used to make that often but since I don't bake much now I was lucky to find a local bakery that makes delicious zucchini bread with blueberries or bananas. Hmmmm....I think it is time to have Papa Spuds deliver some in my next order.
Take care, All.
We did manage to knock a few jobs off the list but it seems it keeps growing. ::)
Two pans of rice crispie squares whipped up , I wanted to bake but because of weather threats thought better of it. Would be my luck to have bread/buns in the oven and the power go off. :tickedoff:
I love the smell of coffee brewing but can't have it. :( Tea, it is and not weak tea that you have to whittle crutches so it can get out of the pot.
So far so good stomach wise, Rick. If I had to add coffee to the long, ever-growing list of foods I can't have, there would be a mental breakdown!
I have a friend whose coffee habits are unique, an entire meal. She has a full arsenal of favored creamers already sweetened, and then she adds two heaping teaspoons, more like tablespoons, of sugar.
Phyllis, so many of my friends have that or the symptoms. It's bad enough I don't want more; I have to remember to move slowly from lying down or sitting because of my hypotension, even at night, for the occasional bathroom break.
I discovered a new favorite breakfast that satisfies, is good for me, and is healthy. I take two toasted whole grain bread, two tablespoons of peanut butter, and one thinly sliced apple, such as a honey crisp or the Chelan mini apples. I have everything ready to make the sandwich while the toast is still hot and delicious!
Amy, I have some herbal tea, but it doesn't work for me during the day. I have one that purports to make you sleepy. I like to soak for twenty minutes in an Epson salt sleepy time blend before bed, if I'm not tired, with a steaming cup of that tea. It may be only in my mind, but it relaxes me enough to drift off when I lie down.
I love your sense of humor, the way you put things! :)
I'm finished for the day! I went in the kitchen to make Cooper's supper and discovered that the pan I fried the bacon in was still soaking and waiting for me to wash it. The counter and the stove needed help, too! So I did Cooper's supper for him and then I did my cleaning! As I said, I'm finished for the day.
While I did the bacon, I also fried up some hot dogs and that's what I had for lunch. And that's what I'm having for supper, too. I love hot dogs when they're fried or done on the grill!
Cooper is finished with his supper and he's patiently waiting for his last walk of the day. We do that right before it gets dark when he spends the night with me! Oh yes, I don't remember! Did I say he's spending the night with me! I'll have a snuggling, bedfellow tonight! Frankie wasn't feeling well and went home early. She asked if he could stay here. WElllllll, now! What kind of question is that? of course he can stay here!
I guess I'll go watch a Perry Mason and think about my supper! Enjoy the rest of your day!
" So far so good stomach wise, Rick. If I had to add coffee "
I'm sure eating lunch at the local "Greasy Spoon" during lunch hour didn't help.
I'm confused Rick...what greasy spoon?
Quote from: patricia19 on August 15, 2023, 05:47:20 PMI'm confused Rick...what greasy spoon?
Those were during my work years. Typically the food at Luncheonettes is not overly digestible. Kept heated, with the included acids getting more so the longer it kept hot.
From a Search Engine - "A greasy spoon is a small, cheap restaurant – either an American diner or coffee shop, or a British or Irish cafe – typically specializing in fried foods. The term greasy spoon has been used in the United States since at least the 1920s and is used throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term greasy spoon originated in the United States and is now used in various English-speaking countries.-"
Ah, like a Woolworth's. We have a diner on a trucking route that's accurately a greasy spoon. I went there once with a couple of friends, and you had to blot your mouth after every bite. The parking lot is always full, so it's popular.
Good Night Everyfriend! Cooper is already in bed and I'm going to be quick to follow him. Sleep well and wake refreshed.
Rick, we have many "Greasy Spoons" in Central PA and the first time I ever heard that definition, it came out of my Grandfather's mouth!
Good Morning to anyone who stops by today! Cooper and I are up and atttem and having our breakfast. Then we'll take our first walk of the day after which I'll be getting ready for my trip to the eye dr. followed by a stop at an Amish Farmer's stand and then the Farmer's Market.
Gonna be a busy day today! Make it a good one for you, too!
Good morning..
I , too, am up and atttem.Need to fisih up doing the jobs that didn't get done yesterday and I see the dust kangaroos need dealing with too!
The talk of "greasy sppoons" brought back memories. They were usually run by families and handed down to the next generation. As for Woolworths, they had the best orange twist donuts with real piece of orange rind on them.
Jane, hope the Dr is happy with the way your eye is. Have fun at the Amish store (I know you will!)
Patricia, I like some herbal tea, pumpkin spice is nice in the fall, but mostly Tetley tea here.
Better get on with my day, it seems to move faster than I do.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Gloria asked me to help her get in. I want to re-register her but need some details from her. If anyone knows how to contact her and ask her to reply to my email? Thanks!
I'm also up, ----- but skip the attem.
Rick, :2funny:
I finally got hold of Don. Yesterday he was sound asleep and did not hear my call.
I was worried about that Facebook notice, which is why I did not answer your query.
Don is well and kicking today. LOL He is his smiling self and sends a big hello to all in Soda Shoppe.
BUBBLE, I sent a message to Gloria to get in touch with you by email. I gave her your email address. I hope it works for her!
Thanks Bubble.
Good morning, I'm late checking in as I'm delving into some of the belated chores I've avoided. I've regretfully learned to go from cleaning a room at a brisk pace to doing it slower, then slowly one side at a time and finally to sections.
Yesterday, I carried my stool with me and cleaned and dusted and rearranged the cabinets on the right side. Today was the refrigerator's turn. Two months ago I purchased produce mats for the drawers and all the shelves. Today I opened the package and put them in place.
Tomorrow I wipe down the oven that I had self cleaned on the tenth, so I can use it again. Then I will clean the convection bake, toaster oven I've used in place of the regular oven. Finally, I will end the week by cleaning and rearranging all the cabinets on the left side, finishing with mopping the floor I've swept each day.
Between the fall I took on black ice in 2014 and the fall I took in February, 2021 I've lost so much balance and mobility. Unfortunately, having a computer is a drawback to accountability. It beckons more than a good clean.
Patricia, often when I need a break I will sit at my desk and enjoy reading the posts. Speaking of desk, it needs a cleaning also.
Curiosity got the better part of me and I pulled a potato plant to the side, reached in and brought out 8 nice potatoes! With all the rain we have had
it was ify if they would be solid inside and they were! THat ws part of one hill. I planted 10lbs and they say for every 1 lb you should get 10 lbs back..oh dear. Know lots of friends who will help eat the extra.
Bubble, good to hear Don is ok...thank you.
I had an out-of-body experience just now. I was writing a post when my laptop suddenly jumped to the right and left. It then switched to my other open tab; very strange...who knows what a wandering finger connected with.
I ended up cleaning my fridge and wiping down the inside of my oven so I could return the pots and pans sitting on my desk to their storage inside my oven. That leaves my convection oven and the left side of my cupboards for tomorrow.
Amy, my laptop is a black hole. Any "breaks" I take become the rest of my day between emails, subscriptions such as here, Youtube, and worldwide real estate subscriptions. Then there is PSP, an entity in itself.
I used to love it when Mom would take new baby potatoes and new peas and combine them in a light cream sauce. Any attempts at recreation never were as good as hers.
I believe I may have an answer to my mysterious computer jump. I heard thunder just now, saw a vivid flash outside, and went to investigate, and the low-hanging clouds are black. That steady rain forecast for this morning finally made it and in a more aggressive form. I'm shutting down for a bit.
Cathy picked me up and we went to the bank and the Dog food store on the way to my eye appointment. The dr. said that the "sticks" that he put in my eye did exactly what they were supposed to do but not as much of it as he expected. He's thinking that we might do this again in October. I'm thinking "Do I really NEED to do it again?" I guess I have some time to think about it! I'm just happy with what it did so far...no double vision is wonderful!
After that appointment, we headed for the Farmers Market. I came home with fresh corn, red beets, a couple of peppers and some onions! Nobody had any rhubarb so I guess that's over with. I missed it! I have 22 bags of corn in the freezer. Tomorrow I'll be making the beet relish! Also chopping and packing onions and peppers. Busy day today and another one tomorrow.
I had some of the corn for my supper and it's GOOD!
Now I'm hitting the haystack! Cooper will be here about 6:45 a.m. and then the day will take off! I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow!
I'm back, Dante's infernal finally changed to a soft, steady rain, but the skies are still black. This wasn't the same as the cloud burst of the fourth. This lasted about 2.5 hours, with rolling thunder growls and lightning flare-ups lightening the skies from East to North. We usually miss out on the lightning and thunder with storms, generally heading southwest of here, but tonight's was violent; the only part missing was the wind.
I ended up vacuuming out and wiping down my convector oven, so the time sans laptop was put to good use.
I'll say good night and see if I can rustle up any PSP; I'm sure Rick will be in to turn the lights out and lock up.
OK --- Lights out and will lock up on my way out. Gotta grab a couple of cookies first.
Good morning..
Starting out at 54° and heading to 80°. We are going into town to pick up a 25 lb case of Roma tomatos. Some will go into canned tomatoes and the rest into spaghetti sauce. Any remaining time will be relaxing in my sewing room.
Jane, sounds like yesterday was a productive day for you. Fresh corn is always a treat! My friend now uses an agle food pan to chop her corn into, saving it from going all over the counter.
Patricia, sounds like you also had an interesting day with the storm! We have been threatened with storms the past few days but thankfull nothing has happened. We did get a light slatter of rain but that is it. To the south they did get some hail.
Rick, thank you for lights up and lock. Will help Jane replenish the cookie jar, maybe ginger snaps next?
Better start the day as it is going to be a busy one also.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm just waiting for Cooper's arrival and having my breakfast.
AMY, I use an angel food cake pan to cut the corn off the cob for freezing. I forget where I heard about it but I've been doing it for years. Lately, it's the only use my cake pan gets any more! It sure does make the job easier!
As soon as Cooper is fed, walked and loved up, I'll be starting on the red beet except for one thing. I forgot I also bought a canteloupe that needs to be cleaned, cut up and refrigerated for quick access!
Have a great day Everyfriend!
AMY, thanks for replacing the cookies. I don't really have time today! Sometimes I think that's the only reason Rick hangs around!
Jane, you just reminded me I also need to pick up canteloupe. I have froze canteloupe in the past and it sure is tasty in the winter. Good that Rick does like the cookies all our hard work is not going to waste...but to waist.:)
Good morning; I've been busy getting a few things done in the kitchen besides general upkeep and the meet and greets. We're at 54 but only planning to reach 61 for a high. This weekend and next week will be rainy and more in tune with standard August weather.
The smoke has been blown in another direction, but there are still several fires in the state, so the rain is welcome. Another visible sign of the time is ravens returning from the mountains. They retreat to them in the summer for cooler weather and return here following it back in the fall.
Five ravens are enjoying the garden below me in the Native Association's Elder Program yard. Likewise, Claire says the smaller overwintering birds are leaving their single-species flocks and forming their huge multispecies flocks for winter protection. It's late, but all the fall signs are back.
I haven't made cookies in a long time. I don't have a sweet tooth, don't even have any sugar in the kitchen. I rarely eat sweets, but show me carbs and stand back out of the way! I'm currently cooking four pounds of kidney beans that I soaked overnight.
Last night I scrubbed, peeled, and chopped several yellow onions, potatoes, carrots, and a few red, green, and yellow bell peppers. Today, those and the beans will be separated and bagged for freezing so I'll be ready for future meals.

Well, tonight I'm heading for the haystack! I'm not tired all the way down to my toenails. I'm tired about 10 feet past my toenails and about 10 feet above my head! The crushed up beets are in the fridge waiting to be made into relish tomorrow and thats a "must-do" job for tomorrow. When that's done I'm going to rest for a week and only to the "have-to's"!!
Good night everyfriend! Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed! That's what I'm planning to do!
Good morning...
Well the "storm" didn't happen again!
Label and putting away spaghetti sauce and starting the rest of the tomatoes and that is it until Sat when the icicle pickles will be canned.
Will be back later .
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning to anyone who pokes their head into the Soda Shoppe today! I got up this morning and I left all the "tireds" back there in the bed! I'm hoping they don't find me until I finsh the beet relish!
Cooper arrived, ate his breakfast and we took our first walk of the day! He's not asking to go out in the yard this morning. He knows how wet it is out there. We had rain for about half the night and it looks like it might have been a pretty good storm!
AMY, it sounds like your getting a lot done! I still have tomatoes to think about...maybe next week. Mine are getting ripe and I do have to make some tomato sauce for cooking!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
We also had rain during the night. Around 3:00 Light flashes and thunder - but quickly went back to sleep. Still cloudy here.
Oh , it is so nice to sit for a moment. Tomatoes are in the canner and that is it for today!
Rick, we are getting a nice gentle rain at the moment, I am listening to crows caw for food and it is already there if they look!
Patricia, your vegetable cut up sounds good to me!! Yesterday, Kyle called me and said there was a lady here to talk with me. He had been cutting grass and didn't have his hearing aids but managed to understand her. She was asking if I had any dill, fresh or dried as she wanted to do pickles. Well, she came in the house a stranger and went out a friend. I gave her a jar of the pickle mix I use, saving her to go to town to get it and I didn't want anything for it but she insisted I take a huge cantaloupe. I am sure we will meet again. :) Now, I did get off topic, what I wanted to say is she canned potatoes, onions, carrots, peas and celery in one jar and she would open one and add meat to make a quick soup or stew! I found that interesting.
Looks like lunch time is near.....better feed the boss...
The beet relish is all done! I got 15 half-pint jars out of it. If I don't give a lot of it away, that should last me a while!
AMY, who's the boss around there? And did that lady give you directions for canning all that stuff together? I like that idea. Some meat in the crock pot and add a jar of vegetables....seems like easy "work"!
I have to put the canner away and then the kitchen is all cleaned up! And I have the day off!
Jane, that is a lot of work ,bet the popping is going on in your home!
No, she didn't but I would think to pressure can it the same we do for potatoes, 40 mins for the quarts. I also like the idea of dump in a pot along with leftover meat be it roast ,hamburg even chicken. A quickie meal for sure or when one doesn't feel like cooking.
Just a reminder - lest I'm not the only one to forget. Don't forget to clean the dust bunnies out of your computer. For whatever reason I happened to look down the side of my computer- where the vent holes are --- couldn't see them. They were covered with dust. Had to tend to that immediately so pulled the desk away from the wall and first vacuumed the outside, then remove the side cover and blew out the inside. Heat is the enemy of electronics. Enough babble - clean it.
Good afternoon from a cool 56-degree Interior at 1:54 pm. Unlike a typical August, we haven't had any rain since Dante visited, but we dropped twenty degrees from last week to this week, which is typical August weather. I'm off the laptop today except for short breaks due to many delayed projects here at home.
Amy, for me, chopping is therapeutic; it calms by repetition. I no longer meal prep, but I do like to freeze commonly used vegetables to have something ready for any meat or fish I want to make. I only need to vary the seasoning and style of preparation.
I made some cream soup bases this morning as I cannot digest condensed soups due to all the chemicals used in processing. It's the same base, and you only need to add the particular flavoring.
Another tip from my allergy/nutritionist is to always, if possible, buy wedges of cheese and grate what you need. You don't get all the processing and unwanted ingredients from the smaller prepackaged cheeses, and more vitamins weren't taken out so they could add flavorings and chemicals
I just stopped by on my way to the haystack! The weather is strange around here. Tonight, it's supposed to get all the way down to 51 degrees during the night tonight. Then tomorrow it will be up in the mid 80s by mid day! I don't ever remember an August like this before! It was a good day to be working in the kitchen because it didn't really get hot inside the house.
When Cooper and I took our walks, I came back sweating but I never needed the A/C all day! Amazing!!
AMY, I made a list of those veggies that your (brand new) friend cans together and I'm thinking I might give it a try. There probably aren't any more fresh peas around here but the rest of the stuff is plentiful! When the kids were growing up, the peas hardly ever made it from the garden to the kitchen. They were too easy to eat on the way! And I couldn't even scold them because I remembered doing it myself when I was a kid!
OK, the haystack is calling! I'll "see" you all tomorrow. Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed. Good Night, Everyfriend!
Yes, Rammel, my computer went all hinky on me the other day, making a terrible noise. I pulled it out from the back of the cabinet, and had to unplug it to make it stop howling at me. I looked in the vent openings and wow, how awful. I got the outside of the unit cleaned, but can't manage to lift the CPU down to carry it out to blow the dust out.
My IT tech, when I need him, usually does that for me. I just emailed him today, with thoughts toward getting him to build me an up-to-date desktop, and transfer all my junk from this old one. He warned me that since they use much better parts in building the units, they are more expensive than the store bought ones. I haven't asked how $$$$much just yet. A little bit wary of having to spend more money. As I may have posted before, I need a new fence and have a corner lot, and it is going to be $$$$$. (provided I can withdraw some cash from my investments) Oh, well as they say"you can't take it with you" but I'd like to have a little bit to enjoy while I'm here! Keep fighting that computer dust!
Good morning..
No rain slated for today, just a sunny day until around 4 pm then cloud cover.
Today, I finally get to can the icicle pickles after 14 days of doing different processes with them. Need to pick up 3 more cases of jars and will do that first thing this morning .
Patricia, wise words on the cheese, I never buy grated cheese as they add something to it to keep it from sticking together. My friend won't buy tomato soup, she (diabetic) didn't read the label and it sent her for a loop! The soup was loaded with suger!
Jane, I also grab some beans and walk about the garden munching on them.:)
I still have beets and potatoes to can. Will do the beet in quarts as we both like them and potatoes in pints as that is enough for the two of us.
Rick, thank you for the heads up on the dust bunnies in the computer! Will check into it today.
Better get the day started, sure hope my attem got up with me!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and (I hope) attem! I meant to run the dishwasher yesterday when my workday ended and I totally forgot. So I added some stuff this morning and it's running now. When that's finished, there's laundry! I think there's ALWAYS laundry!
I don't have Cooper this weekend because Frankie is off but she did ask me if he might be able to spend the night with me. She's going out for a late dinner and then some time with friends. I suspect there will be some beer bottles around! So I might have company later!
I hope you all get your computers cleaned out! I checked and mine doesn't need it. It's a laptop that I have hooked up to a (thing you see stuff on). Sorry, my memory left me! I can take the laptop with me when I go to Cindy's or she can use the screen when she's here and has to put in a few work time hours every day!
Now I'm going to go get dressed and make the bed, sort the laundry and take my walk! I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Happy Saturday!!
Good morning, 53 degrees here and foggy. I guess it's better than smoky. We went quickly from the seventies and eighties to the fifties and low sixties, with light rain each afternoon.
I've procrastinated long enough and finished some nagging chores. But that only brings me to even more that have sat longer. So, I'm on the couch with my coffee debating chores now and groceries later or simply groceries.
I know it's fall when my tastes change from lots of different salads to lots of casseroles, soups, and stews. I finished a pound of kidney beans yesterday, bagged and in the freezer, and now I'm looking at some navy beans. Does anyone know why navy beans are called that when they're white? I'm easy in that my tastes are always seasonal.
Our morning meet and greet was somber today as an old friend in hospice lost her cancer battle yesterday. She had gone through battles three times, but then it returned a fourth, which was too much.
Patricia, I am sorry about your friend. She sure gave it a good fight!
Navy Beans are small, oval-shaped beans with white skin. They have a mild, delicate flavor. These are the beans used for the famous Boston Baked Beans. These white beans were named Navy Beans because of their inclusion in the U.S. Naval diet during the second half of the 19th Century.
She certainly did, as she was one who never held back. She will be missed.
Thanks for the explanation regarding navy beans. I think they and kidney beans are the most usable beans for me. I like to bag and freeze the dried beans after cooking in groups of a half pound for various recipes.
I also prefer the navy beans for baked beans and one day next week I will do them in the IP and then can a big batch in pint sealer for later.
hmmm. I had to look up pint sealer and found it after sifting through the various concrete, asbestos, and other sealants.
After buying a new one, a friend offered to sell me her old air fryer cheaply; however, with only me and little counter space. I don't need or use the appliances I have now.
After processing, I cook the beans a pound at a time and then freeze them in half-cup sizes for use in various recipes.
PATRICIA, I'm sorry about your friend, too. It's always hard to lose a friend!
I heard about the "navy beans" a long time back but I'd forgotten. It's nice to be reminded.
I got a lot done today.....6 loads of laundry (some of them area rugs), some floors cleaned, dishwasher run and dishes put away, walked my two long walks, made some soup, cleaned up a couple of areas that needed it and changed a bed. That's about all I can think of but my "tired" tells me there mush have been more!
I'm heading for the haystack. Tomorrow, I have a ride to church and back so that will be my morning. In the afternoon, Frankie might be coming over to wash windows. Sleep peacefully and wake with a smile! It'll be a great day! Good night!
Good Morning Everyfriend! The day begins at 55 degrees!
:) Good morning :)
A welcomed day of rest here  Saw the last of the cucumbers yesterday. After 15 days of working with them the cucumbers morphed into icicle pickle..crunchie ones at that! There were 17 pints but could have been 2 more but I ran out of syrup. We now have the tough of of disposing them . Laundry was also done while they were in the canner . Today will be sewing room to see what quilt I would like to do next.
Jane, I am sure you also didn't need any rocking last night.Nice to get all that work done and m ove on. I came across your bbq recipe and that is now on my to do list.
Patrica, we used to call them sealers, now jars. I enjoy my air fryer, used it last night to cook bacon and it really does a nice job. They do command space but use no oil other then what you coat or spay your food with. Grilled cheese (Jane got me on that one) are really good.
I have a funny feeling my att'em stayed in bed and may I may just going join it later on today. Sunday naps are always the best.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning on a chilly, 47 degrees, rainy August day. I hope to get to a few more items that have stagnated on my list. Winter has always been a time of settling and refurbishing home and mind. It's sometimes surprising to see how abrupt the season changes, inside and out, can be.
Thanks, Amy and Jane, for your condolences. Donna was a wisecracking, gin-playing, opinion-on-everything type of woman. She lived an entire life in everything she did and will be missed. It's a sign of the times that there are three others in hospice. It wasn't that long ago that we planted spring gardens, picnicked by hot springs in summer, prepared the land in fall, and spent too much money in the stores. Winter was a time of sledding, skiing, and snowboarding, with evenings spent in holiday spirits.
Jane, you had a lot done yesterday. There was a time I would have been right there with you. Now I focus on one section at a time per room and take as many breaks as needed. Farah will be 11 the first week in September, and she's also slowing down and is more interested in scratches and treats than playing or worrying about loud noises and strange people in her home.
A few years ago, I gave away several appliances that I no longer used after I gave up meal prepping and making dishes for crowds and holiday parties. I have a Pullman-style kitchen, and I needed the room for what I used, not what I rarely used. Meal preparation is something I do in that I have various parts prepped and on hand rather than the entire meal.
Lately, I've slowly eased out of the bartering in which I and my circle were engaged. I no longer use the number of groceries or even some of the foods I used before when we had a steady stream of socializing, partying, and adventuring.
Now, I have lots of availability and little need to rush.
I had to come back and edit because of that last line. It sounds so alone and lonely when I'm not. I'm as busy and engaged as I've always been, only slower and in different directions.
Well, so much for taking a day off. Needed some yogurt for the dogs and I always surf the meat counter and the store marked down ground chicken for 1..! So, 13 pkg came home with me 10 for my friend and 3 for us. Our meat is now all cooked and vacuumed sealed in the freezer. Since I was in the mess the peaches also got peeled and put in the fridge.
Patricia, with your meet and greeet in the morning plus looking after Farrah I wouldn't think you are lonely. You know what they say, dogs hae owners , cats have staff. :)
My, my, so much canning going on. I remember canning with my grandma and my mom. I have done some on my own many years ago. It makes me happy that you all share your canning tales with all of us.
PATRICIA, I am sorry to read of your friend's passing from that 😡😡😡 cancer. It seems you and she had some very fun times together, and I know this is hard on you. Hugs. We, too, are really slowing down. I have been for some time but now my hubby is the one that really notices it. He will turn 80 in a couple of months and now he admits that he IS FEELING his age😩
We just had a nice quick visit from our #3 son and family. They have been down at her parents house for a day or so. They have not been here to visit for quite sometime. We mostly drive up to their house. It was wonderful to see my boys🥰🥰🥰 Jonah, 4 years, 8 month old starts back to preschool this week.....2 half days. Leon is running all over the place these days....he is nearly 15 months already. No baby left to cuddle. He sure does give REAL good hugs and kisses though.
BUBBLE, thank you for letting us know that Don is doing just fine. I am sorry I mentioned it, but it did give me a fright when I read it.
The weather continues to be cRaZy and extremely unpredictable these days. We are not getting as much rain as we have been, but the light continues to be an issue without much to show for it. Son Dave took his daughter and two friends to a Ed Sheeran Concert at our Bronco Football Stadium last night. They were told to get in undercover a few times do to lightening in the area. Huge crowds like that are not something we ever care to do again, but sure enjoyed them back in the day.
I love Navy and Pinto Beans .......have not fixed a pot in a very long time but I plan to soon.....
We got our flu and RSV shots this week. Seems much too early to me, but the doctors are encouraging seniors to get them now. The latest Covid vaccine will be out towards the end of September and they are pushing it also.
AMY, nice to read about your new lady friend. She seems to share your same interests and I hope you will see her again.
JANE, you mentioned freezing cantaloupe? I had no idea it could be frozen🤷 🤷 Our fresh vegetables and fruits are in short supply and VERY expensive this year.
I am sure sorry to read about the storm Hillary heading into California. It sounds frightening......all the rain etc.
Yesterday I cleaned and rearranged all of my meds, lotions etc in my closet. The plan was to throw out a lot.....and I did but there is still way too much.....however it is well organize now‼️
I wish you all a good Sunday.
Jenn
Jenny, it was me that froze cantaoupe. I froze it in a light syrup and it really tasted good in the dead of winter when no fruit has any taste!
https://www.millerplantfarm.com/9-general/125-freezing-melons
Amy, I generally buy the frozen cantaloupe off-season but might try your canning method.
I've done several catchups this week only to return to my standing at the end of July, per cleanup and organizing.
Jenny, thank you. The fall on black ice in 2014 and the other in February 2021 did me in.
I like to process 2-3 pounds of kidney and navy beans, bag them in half dozen to dozen amounts, and freeze them. It is easy to toss a few handfuls into any recipe you believe might need them.
Donna and her past husband (Carl died in 2018); had the property on Chena Ridge with a secondary twisty three-mile driveway. In the winter, they would clean it out and invite everyone to bring their sleds or snowboards, and Donna would provide hot cocoa and hot lemonade for the kids and a more spirited version for the adults, along with multiple munchies.
You and your passengers would enjoy a wild, curvy ride down to the bottom, where the cars would be waiting to carry you and your sleds back up the hill. The drivers would switch out so everyone had a turn. I remember when we surprised a pair of moose grazing off the road. Luckily they seemed more interested in watching than anything else.
Hi everybody; I am happy to report that I am alive and well. It's been a great day here in London with the temperature around 25 degrees. I'm not much of an outdoors person so I stick pretty much to staying inside with my book or tv.. They have a shuttle bus here to take us to the various malls in the area, but its a hassle sometimes when everybody tries to get on with their walkers or wheel chairs. Fortunately I have a scooter to get out on,although I'm a bit nervous about going out in traffic with it.

This was a "sort of" lazy day! I went to church this morning and when I came home, I had lunch and was just finishing when Frankie and Cooper stopped by. She gave him a bath and then left him and went to do a couple of errands and picked a couple odds and ends for me at the grocery store.
I watched an old John Wayne movie on TV. It was called "Donovan's Reef" and is one of my all-time favorites!
I froze some cantalope this summer too and I think I'm going to get another one to eat some and freeze some. It worked fine!
Now I'm getting ready to head for the haystack! I'm ready! Didn't do much but I'm tired! You don't suppose that's because I'm getting a bit older, do you?
JENNY, nice to see you poking your head in! We miss you when to don't stop by!! Nice to be able to see you family. Isn't it fun watching the "littles" get bigger!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!
Good Morning to anyone who stops by! Cooper's on the way and I need to finish my coffee and get dressed! Enjoy whatever comes your way!
Good morning..
Looks like we may be in for some rain! Domestic duties (thank you Callie) today and hope to pick out fabric for the next quilt.
Seems there is always work lurking and try as one might you can't or rather I can't ignore the mess on the kitcen floor from doing down pickles.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Jane :hello:
Have fun with da Cooper :dog4:
I'm up but my attem seems to be missing. I am so slow to get anything accomplished these days. The day disappears and the next day has already begun before I can get anything done. (Does that sentence make any sense?) Well, anyway, I at least had my coffee and sorted out all the junk email and now I'll go eat some breakfast before it is time to eat lunch.
Supposed to hit 96 deg. today and feel like a 101. I was going to make some soup but when it is that hot who wants to even think about soup?
Take care, All.
Well, I got some stuff done today. And PHYLLIS, that sentence makes perfect sense to me. A day can just fly by and the next one starts if you don't keep your eye on it.
AMY, I don't like pickles well enough to put 15 days and a cleanup into them! Whatever they are, I'll pass on that!
I made a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys" and I just have to wait for them to cool and put them in the box for the freezer with two in the fridge for tomorrow and the next day! I also went through some potatoes that were taking off for the trash bin and got enough out of it for scalloped potatoes for supper! That and some baked beans and fish will be supper here. I'll have enough for company if anyone wants to join me!
This afternoon I have an appointment with the "itch doctor" (I think her real profession is Skin Specialist) but I use my words most of the time!
Gotta get back to work! I had to bring "Barky" in this house. I don't know what was setting him off but I think it might have been his friend down the street. When they're both out, they seem to know it and the "chat" a lot!
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Good late morning again, from the second or third day of steady rain. We need it, and it's a necessary part of August's prelude to winter, but not an enjoyable one. If September goes as usual, it should be cooler, with crisp beauty.
Jane, last week, I gathered, chopped, and bagged a good amount of vegetables to freeze and processed, cooked, and bagged dried yellow peas, green peas, and two types of dried beans. This morning, I finished bringing my kitchen back to normal.
Except for that, today or tomorrow, I have plans to separate various types of meat for the freezer and to cook a pork roast and a whole chicken ; bone, section the meat, and freeze the majority of it. My kitchen's tidiness is always a work in progress.
Sometimes I feel squirrely, scouting for nuts.
So concerning about the flooding caused by Hilary....what a terrifying storm.
So good to see your post, DON. I loved the picture of you with your sons🥰 I am so sorry I set off a stir regarding you still being with us.....but I was concerned and knew others would be as well. HAPPY to see you are alive and WELL‼️ I even sent a message to the lady that posted on FB about you that started this whole question....sadly, I never heard from her. The post was taken down immediately.
AMY, I appreciate the info on how to freeze fruit. I am going to try to do it. Thanks. I originally gave you credit for posting it, but then looking back it appeared to be Jane. No foul, no harm🤪🤪
JANE, it is GREAT to see the littles as they grow up, however I would like to slow the process down a bit🤪🤪 Thank you for the kind welcome for sticking my head in‼️‼️🤪🤪🤪. Our oldest grandson will be turning 18 tomorrow 🤪‼️🤪‼️
PATRICIA, wonderful memories you shared about times with Donna and her husband. These "falls" that we have are indeed game changers for us😩😩. I love when you go in to see any doctor that they ask you if you are afraid of falling......ABSOLUTELY is my answer. I am petrified to be honest😩
Have a good Monday EVERYFRIEND❣️❣️
Jenn
Supper's in the oven and I'm waiting for Mannix to come on so I can eat it. It's fish filets, scalloped potatoes and baked beans!
My trip to the dr. was a good one. She's a dermatoligist and is working on my "itchies". The stuff she told me about on my last visit, seems to be working out! She said a lot of the redness in certain places is gone and that's good.
JENN, my oldest grandson just celebrated 40 years and it just seems like yesterday that he was born! I'm very proud of him. He met some obstacles in his life but he's made an excellent life for himself and his family!
Now I'm going to put everything on hold and take a short walk before I sit down to eat my dinner! Keep on keeping on, Everyfriend! Who would have thought back in the 50s and 60s that I'd have friends all over the country and all over the WORLD (have to include Bubble! She's definitely a friend!)
Floors are washed, trip into town to get Babe's nails cut, then home to wash the van.
Phyllis, it most certainly did make sense...now can you stop the weeks from flying by?
Patricia, our weather is a bit cooler also. Rain now on Thur with the possibility of a storm.
Jane, your supper sounds delicious!! Comfort food! I need to make some pastry and use up some peaches, peach pie sounds good.
Jenny, with the price of grocereies/fruit any bit you can freeze is going to taste good come winter.
This part of the Interior is close to farming country. I say close because it's one hundred miles north of the Mennonites and other mainstream farmers. That's close in Alaskan terms.
Locally we have what's termed boutique farms. These are the ones that grow and export peonies, one of our state's largest exports worldwide; honey, birch syrups, and other foods; woven garments and items from sheep, goats, alpacas, llamas, and Icelandic ponies. Products, hair, soaps, creams, yougart, cream bases for cosmetic products, etc., from goats, are beginning to rival peonies in sale volume.
However, the few local farms growing food are small and generally operate on purchased shares, pay to pick your own, or promise a certain number of hours for a guaranteed amount of that farm's harvest. The volume of food is significant due to black glacial soil, cabbages weighing sixty-six pounds, etc., and often only a few miles from the city.
We don't have a local food stand similar to Jane's Amish, but we do have two sprawling summer outdoor markets plus an indoor one that switches to organics in the winter.
The issue for me is transportation to and from. Plus, I wish we had places that sold pottery, furniture, and other crafts. That makes up a large portion of our yearly fair, but that's only one week out of the year.
I have one complaint about Grammarly, which checks my posts, grammar, etc., across the web. They seem to have started using a new IE, and I have to be doubly careful as it arbitrarily changes my subject in some odd ways. For example, in one post, I spoke of cutting up meat, and it kept trying to change meat to heart!
Quote from: patricia19 on August 21, 2023, 07:37:45 PMI spoke of cutting up meat, and it kept trying to change meat to heart!
Must have failed AI School.
Supper was DEEEElicious! And now I'm heading for the haystack! Cooper will be arriving around 6:45 and I try to be up, dressed and have my breakfast before he gets here. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Bless you, one and all!
Thanks, Rick...I, myself, failed at acronyms, trying to spell it as IE.
I spend almost as much time correcting its grammar as it does mine.
Good morning.
Starting off at 44° and overcast here.My mission today, should I accept is to make some windows laugh (clean). I use paper towels to clean them and it sounds as if they are laughing.
Patricia, we have a Mennonite Market just on the other side of town. plus there is a vegetable stand in town and on Sat there is a market behind the post office. Lots to choose from if one needs anything.
Jane. the young girl that cuts Babes nails is so good at it that I don't need to give her the Rescue Remedy. She talks awa to Babe while I hold her and she may shiver a bit but it is soon done as the girls goes about clipping. I would get a fight with Babe, while she behaves not to bad for the young lady.
Better get ready to meet the day, I think my attem actually got up with me.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I missed that. It is my feeling that on this relaxed site we are not heavily into being correct all the time. So --- just let it flow.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I've been up, had breakfast, met Cooper's arrival, fed him and he took me for a walk! Now he's out front challenging anything that moves and I'm back on the computer.
RICK, I'm with you that this is a place to "be ourselves"! We don't have to make corrections because everyone who reads in here is smart enough to figure out what we meant to say!
I think I'm going to go to Wenger's (the Mennonite Store) with Cathy later this morning. I don't need a lot of stuff but I always like to look around in there. And they always seem to have something I never saw in there before and I really need. And their prices are good!
I hope you all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
I agree. We can usually figure out what was meant and I don't think anyone here judges us on our grammar, spelling, sentence construction, etc. If I can't figure out what someone is saying, I will ask.
Hot, really muggy here today. Supposed to have some better weather move in on Thurs. I sincerely hope that they will be right.
I cleaned out the fridge yesterday, threw everything in the crockpot, cooked it for a couple of hours and will have soup for dinner tonight. I don't know what to call it because I didn't use a recipe. Maybe just call it Surprise Soup. If it is not good I'll just wave it goodbye.
Good morning 💐
JANE I sure wish I could go to the Wenger's with you and Cathy today. Belated Happy 40th Birthday to your grandson‼️ I had my own little pity party this morning as I thought how much I wish that Michele could be here with her first born son on his 18th Birthday 😩🙏 Your dinner sounded YUMMY last night....so glad you enjoyed it❣️
AMY, glad you got Babe's nail's cut. So nice that you have someone to do it so it goes smoother for her🥰. Bob cuts our Smokey's nails.....he just lays back on Bob and lets him do it.....but he does EXPECT the treat when he is done🤣🤣 We do not have any nice markets to buy fresh veggies or fruit from.....our local farmers markets are a joke as far as I am concerned. It looks like someone went to Walmart and shopped to bring them to the market to sell at triple the price😩😩
PHYLLIS, I hope your special concoction out of the fridge was delicious. I love soup of any kind.
PATRICIA, I really enjoyed reading you descriptions of the local boutique markets.
We will have a little late birthday dinner for Grandson Matt tonight.....he has his first Lacrosse practice to go to before we can have dinner🥰🥰 He has lettered every year of high school and will again this yesr🥰🥰
Have a wonderful day EVERY 💐 FRIEND.
Jenn
I thought this was an excellent read and it did me good to read it today. I hope it is OK to share it here‼️
"He may not be able to stand anymore and suffering has shaped his character but this speech from Pope Francis yesterday was just INCREDIBLE!"
"You can have flaws, be anxious and even be angry, but just remember that your life is the world's biggest contest." Only you can stop it from failing. You are appreciated, admired, and loved by so many. Remember that happiness is not having a sky without storms, a road without accidents, a job without effort, a relationship without disappointments.
"Being happy means finding strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in fear, love in discord." It's not only to enjoy the smile, but also to reflect on the sadness. It's not just about celebrating success it's about learning from failure It's not just about feeling happy with applause, it's about being happy anonymously. Being happy is not a fatality of destiny, but an achievement for those who can travel on their own.
"Being happy is to stop feeling victimized and become the author of your own destiny." "It is to walk through deserts, but to be able to find an oasis deep in one's soul. It's thanking God every morning for the miracle of life. To be happy is not to be afraid of your feelings and to be able to talk about yourself. Have the courage to hear a "no" and trust the criticism, even when it's unwarranted. It's about hugging your kids, hugging your parents, spending poetic moments with your friends, even when they hurt us.
"To be happy is to let the creature that lives in us live, free, joyful and simple." You are mature enough to say, "I made mistakes". Having the courage to say I'm sorry. It's the sense of saying "I need you". It's having the ability to say, "I love you". May your life become a garden of blissful opportunities that in spring is a lover of joy and in winter a lover of wisdom.
"And when you make a mistake, start over." Because only then will you be in love with life. You will find out that being happy isn't about having a perfect life. But use tears to irrigate the tolerance. Use your defeats to train your patience.
"Use your mistakes with serenity of the sculptor." Use the pain to connect to pleasure. Use obstacles to open the windows of intelligence. Never give up... Above all, never abandon the people who love you. Never stop being happy because life is an amazing show. ".
~ POPE FRANCIS
Jenny, I used to cut our Goldens nails and the neighbours dog's nail, both would just lay on the floor and let me trim them. The last time I cut Rexs nails he reached up and gave me a kiss on the cheek, something he had never done before. Less than two weeks he was gone, I do think he knew and was saying thank you.
Hope you don't mind but I am going to share your post. Pope Francis said it right. There are people in this life that no matter what one does they are never pleased and others are so thankful for the little things.
Denver,
Pope Francis is truly a Diamond in the rough
Best Pope for all people, all denominations
Most loved in my lifetime.

Mycheal KEEP Cool ya all :O)
Good evening; I was gone most of this day to a Memory Breakfast for Donna that stretched to a Memory Day. She refused to have a funeral saying, "No gloomy gusses, please!" So we kept it light and full of our own reminiscences.
I don't worry about how others perceive me, but I watch how I put things, especially since Grammarly started this new plan.
The Mennonites sent some of their followers here, where they started a community and purchased land for their farms in the sixties. I believe they have scouts that rove about looking for new places.
In the mid-summer to late fall, they have roadside stands. There is some tension in the area because the farms shared by American farmers, Immigrant Russians from the post-war years, and Russian Old Believers don't share the same ideas or follow the same methods.
Delta Junction and Big Delta are small towns along the river that are surrounded by those farms one hundred miles from here.
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm tired right down to my shoe strings and that's bad because I'm not wearing shoes! I'm going to bed and try to sleep some of this off! Cooper will be arriving early and I'm going out for lunch with old friends. Don't know if I'll make it here in the morning. Sleep well and have a good day!
Good morning..
I do love these cooler temps 56° at the moment and rain in the forecast.
Friends are stopping by and we are exchanging goodies then it is back to making windows giggle.
Baking sound be done, maybe a peach pie?? Will see what happens on how the day goes.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning, AMY and anyone else who shows face this morning!
Cooper is here, had his breakfast and a walk and is out in the yard NOT barking at anything! He loves the cooler weather! When he comes over he lets me take him for a walk and then he spends most of the rest of his time out in the yard until I have to get him in because I'm leaving or the sun comes out!
I need to get a shower and get dressed for my pickup later this morning. I have a few odds and ends to finish up....well, I have a LOT of odds and ends to finish up but some of them will need to wait!
Cathy and I decided to put off the Farmers market until next week. All I need is tomatoes to mak sauce for recipes! Then I'm done until pumpkins come in! I'm hoping Shirley (my friend who picks me up for the scheduled lunch with friends) will want to stop at a store on the way home. I keep forgetting milk!
Make today a good one...or just let it happen! It'll be good that way, too!
Good morning to all. Nice and cool this morning, but overcast. Looks like no sun today.
Nothing happening, so nothing to say :(
Empty house today. Everyone must be busy today. I'll shut off the lights and lock up.
Gloria is having a hard time getting to S@F since she has to get used to her new IPad. With patience I am sure she will make it. We all miss her.
These touch screens can be most frustrating. Often I feel like sending my cellphone through the window when my thick fingers won't make it react!
Good morning..
Another storm that didn't happen to us last night, we didn't even get rain. I hope that means those that need the rain got it instead.
Picking up 30 lbs of beets this morning to put into pickles. Friends didn't come down yesterday ,their tractor tire didn't come in but maybe today.
Rick thank you, for light and lock up. I did get the windows cleaned and a few other thing done also.
Bubble, thank you, for letting us know how Gloria is doing. Once she masters the IPad as I am sure she will she will be here.
Better get ready for town ,want to get in and get out of the store before it gets busy.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
BUBBLE, I sent GLORIA an email telling with your address and told her she needed to let you know how to reach her so you could help her get to SodaShoppe. I got it back from her about 5 days later. I'm keeping in touch with her, just in case but I really don't know what else to do to help her!
I'm sitting here in front of the computer in my jammies, eating my breakfast (one of Jim's Egg Thingys,) and having my morning coffee. No Cooper today but Frankie is probably going to drop him by later while she does some grocery shopping! Otherwise, my day is "unplanned". (Is that a good word to take the place of "loafing"?
The weather is off today. It rained during the night and more rain is predicted for today. The temp is 64 degrees right now and only heading for a high of 72! This has been the strangest August I can every remember. It sounds like a good day for "not planning".
RICK, thanks for taking care of the lights. I hope you also finished off the cookies and emptied the coffee pot!
I hope you all have a good day... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
P.S. Good Morning AMY. You slipped in while I was typing!
Just finished breakfast and will go upstairs as soon as I check in here. Cloudy today and the humidity is back again. Summer is still hanging around.
I have a handyman coming on Monday to repair soffits and siding that was damaged from the wild animals. I hope he will show up and that he will do everything I contracted for. Can only say that "time will tell".
Otherwise, it is just the same old routine and chores to be done. Take care, All.
After all these years I finally got around to seeing the movie Titanic. It was quite impressive, but what I liked was the documentary that preceded it. I watch a lot of tv and wwhat I watch are mostly documentaries and there are 100s of them on Netflix
So far ,this has been a busy interesting day. Was told by the girl at the store that the beets did not come in....maybe two weeks. Well, I was giving a friend some pickles and waited for her to come out of the store when she hollered at me, the girl had found 20 lbs of beets. I hung nto them as if they were gold as others were after the same thing! Now 27 pints are popping on the countertop. I still have the mess to clean up but after my cuppa.
While cleaning the beets, I looked out the window and there on the neighbours yard was a flock of geese. The sentinel had is neck stretched to make sure nothing was creeping up on his family and then all heck let loose. Out of the house came a tiny dog, geese were bigger than it! That dog put the run on the geese making them take flight and giving me a good laugh!
Good to see you Don..
Patricia, are you hiding??
Good late morning at 10:27 and 57 degrees heading up into the mid-sixties. It has been cloudy and steady light rain for some days now, so much so that the increased humidity has brought some fog interspersed with clouds. This is our late usual August, signaling the end of summer weather.
No, I'm not hiding; I foolishly thought to get more chore backups done quickly and have been going down the list. It's not going as smoothly or as soon as I thought. Why do I always want to prepare for winter with a clean slate and new arrangements? Is this what those outside animals get into?
In between were the regular day-to-day stuff and then meets and greets, let alone Farrah's care. Oh...and a 21-dollar rent increase for December. More rent, less security, less maintenance, and more items are no longer working...but that yearly increase continues.
Well, I took today off! I took a couple of walks, read the newspaper, played some word games on the computer, read several chapters of my book, visited with Frankie and went for a walk with Cooper while Frankie went for groceries. Then tonight, I had a good supper, watched 2 episodes of "Perry Mason", one "Mannix" an Adam-12 and an episode of
Tales of Wells Fargo. Now I'm heading for the bunkhouse!
I hope you all had a good day today and I wish you another one tomorrow! And tomorrow will be a work day for me. One day off is all we get in this house! Good night to one and all!
Quote from: JaneS on August 24, 2023, 07:27:12 AMRICK, thanks for taking care of the lights. I hope you also finished off the cookies and emptied the coffee pot!
I knocked off the rest of the cookies, but only rinsed out the coffee pot. Not a good cleaning.
Hope all had a decent day, and will do it again tomorrow.
well it is too late to be in here, but I need some help, to reamber how step by step, to take a picture of my self, and poste It where you all can see my latest picture, (new look) It has been too long seince I have done it, and I can not reamber how to. I have a crearema hooked to this computer, but I .can not reamber how to, and grand dearter is too busy to take time off from her school teacheing and famley, her plate is too full. any time later this morning will be alright. I got my drivers Licens renuewed, with my new look on it. I am not looking for a new ladie, Nancy is still putting up with Me. and I am not man enough to support two you all at the same time. my memory is very short any more, I think it may still be in there but i shure have a hard time reanbering whin I need or want to any more. ( old age I think, has cought up with Me.)
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm having my breakfast while I wait for Cooper's arrival. The coffee's the best and I'm having a dish of fresh canteloupe with it!
LLOYD, so good to see you posting again. We do miss you when you're not around!
RICK, thanks for cleaning up after us. Rinsing out the coffee pot works for me!
I have to go get dressed before Cooper gets here. He's going to want a walk right after he eats!
I wish you all a good day! Make it work your way!
Good morning..
We did gt a light sprinkling of rain but tomorrow is another story. With all the rain we have had the ground can use more and with winter freeze up not that far away rain is needed for the wells and rivers.
Picking up meds this morning then home to put away the jars of beets. I am not sure what else will get done, tis a toss up of cleaning out the fridge ,baking and making a pot of baked beans.
Jane, cateloupe is so good this time of year. Sounds like we had better fill the cookie jar again. How about shortbread cookies this time?
Patricia, have you found the list gets longer as you knock off the top ones? Always find something else to add onto it.Prices are always going up and folks are getting less. Product prices may go up but the package gets smaller.
Lloyd, I bet Nancy is busy canning/pickeling and putting food down for the winter.
Rick, thank you. I was so tired last night I forgot to refill the cookie jar but Jane or I will top it up again.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
A friend sent me my morning giggle.
Today I was in a shoe store that sells only shoes, nothing else. A young girl with a tattoo and green hair walked over to me and asked, "What brings you in today, I looked at her and said, "I'm interested in buying a refrigerator." She didn't quite know how to respond, had that deer in the headlights look.
I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.

Employment application blanks always ask who is to be called in case of an emergency. I think you should write, "An ambulance."

well it is 81º and going up they are saying 99º this afternoon. thank god for AC and working. I spend a lot of time in my recliner layed back. takeing it easy and Napping. I have another little chore, I am doing. I have a little over a bushel and 1/2 of hickery nuts. I have a nut cracker on a wide board. Han operated.(easy) to operate.I cut a large hole in a one gallen milk juge, to pot the cracked nuts in, and bring them and spred them out on the kitchen table , and pick the nut meats up and out of the chells. the shels is close to the same coller as the nut meats, so I get a few shells on them and Nancy goes through them and pickes them out for me. yesterday I picked out a ziplock one quart ziplock bag full about a inch and half deep laying on its side. they will be good in cookie and icecream Making.just sprinkle them over the icecream, good and thick. I also have a couple of gallens of black walnuts to cracke and pick out. I have a crermra on my computer. but cant reamber how to make it take my pictuer and post it here. I have growen a full length beard. am planning on letting it get full length down to the top of the pockest on my bib overyhauls. I had it like that seveerial years ago.when i get it long and comed nice I plan on taking a picture and post it attached here in S & F. I is only about one inch long now.

Good morning. in the fifties again this morning with a steady light rain. Another August phenomenon appeared today. We have a lot of water inside and just outside the city limits. When the temperatures cool down in winter's preparation, You will see patches of fog here and there about the area. And it's always above the ponds, creeks, lakes, and streams.
An aerial map, if you will, and another is the animals moving into the town's woods and gullies via those waterways to escape wolves for the winter. The trappers report animals are preparing their winter dens, and the army and airforce bases are also as folks move out to other bases and areas as the new ones move in.
Jane, I envy you for your time with Cooper! On the one hand, you get the company, and I'm sure he's more active than my older cat, who's lying on her back with all four feet splayed. This is her usual position after a morning of eating, drinking, and eliminating!
Lloyd, it's so lovely to see your posts again! Bubble would be a good one to explain your computer camera.
Amy, I loved those funnies you posted. Thanks for giving me more ammunition for those texting meets and greets!
I tend to get an almost laser focus when I finally get going on a project, rearranging, decluttering, or simply deep cleaning. I procrastinate for days, debating what, when, where, and how before diving in. I'm denning like the animals outside. Farrah is also as she wants to eat more and cozy up more.
There's not much else going on here. Claire has sold her place to an ex-military couple and her animals to neighbors. She has a month to find new accommodations as the couple muster out. The other meet and greets are doing the same as I am; for some, this will be the first winter they haven't had to prepare the land and plan and pay for winter street and road maintenance.
One of the meets and greets has started a side hustle. He has an SUV, got a chauffeur's license, and has started offering rides to those without transportation for grocery trips and other trips for those unwilling to wait longer for taxis. He's charging three dollars more than the taxis but doesn't have the almost hour wait time, and you can set up a regular schedule if needed or ask him to pick up and deliver for you.

wow this is disgusting, I had a nice leingthey post ready to post and hit somengting wrong and the grimlens got and I can not fiend It. I was telling you all about a Man on a ten acer parcel of land. He has his house and a green house on it. He also has severial type's of tees on it.he sells severial thousand $$$ worth of frut's and produce off of it. beside what his owen famlie eats. that is one, also I know about about a Man in canadia he has a large greanhouse, he leaves the small walk in door open all the time. the picture showes the snow piled up on the sides of it. he keeps some and sells some as bobbie calves or a little larger, except a few to re prudce the cow heard. the boddie heat of the cattle heat the grean house. he has trays in racks. where he puts barley seeads and sprouts it and roles up and feeds it to the cattle along with some other dry feed. he sells milk and makes cheeze's and sells it also. I also know of a famley started in in south Mo. started out on ten acers bult the home in then, raised all sort of anamels a few at a time.and gradualy got more livestock and added to the land. they now owen a much larger lot of land and cattle. and built a a larger house and I think are out of debt. so it can be done. just takes a lot of hard work and love for each other, they also have raised there children, and helped them through collage. this may not be completley corect but is close. havea good day. I my self have been up and down the ladder Made a lot of mastakes. I was the oldes of three boy's. my dad was murdered and mom mooved us from bluwesprings to strasuburg mo. we rented a small house for $30.00 a monh. and later took a 1$ a month rase and bought it. I mowde yards delivered gorcers and papers to older folks in town, my middle brother got the paper rout and I wentto woork in the blacksmith shop.learned how to forge weld and shapen plowe shears. when I was 16 years old my mother had met and fell in love with a nice man and Married him, the two younger boys went with her to her new home. and I got a job with a locial farmer in the aeria and went to live and help him on his farm, doing farm choyers , and milking cows. that i a enough for now.

Can you guess where I'll be going?
Lloyd, if you have an email, then you can send me any picture you want posted here and I'll do it for you.
I don't need anything in return, it's a pleasure to be able to help!
I am sending you an email, so you have mine to be able to answer. Good luck!
Good Morning Everyfriend! I totally forgot to check out last night! I finished watching my TV shows and did a few odd jobs in the kitchen and headed right for the haystack!
LLOYD, it's so nice to see you back! You are so talented with your woodworking! I sure wish we lived closer so I could see some of it! My father and my BIL were both good at that kind of thing and I miss them.
RICK, indulge! The goodies are some of the best things AMY does!
I'm up and waiting for the arrival of Cooper! He'll be my company for the day once again!
I'm having fresh canteloupe for breakfast again and I managed to freeze several breakfasts for some future days! I love this season of fresh fruits and veggies. Yesterday, my lunch was fried radishes. They are sooooo good!
I guess I better get some other stuff done before Cooper shows up. Have a good day Everyfriend!
Good morning.
Have you ever thought you just might to sleep in? Take a lazy day and let it start later than usual, you can't here! Three crows outside the bedroom window haven't been taught to whisper or use inside voice, then Mr Rooster that has now found his voice , using it to the best of his ability along with a newbie that has yet to get his morning crow in sync.
Laundry and baking today and whatever else gets in the way..
Jane ,that is one of the treats in summer, fresh tasty fruits and vegetables. Have fun with Cooper!
Patricia, sounds like you now have a reliable ride and with a friend to boot!! Tis a win win situation for both of you. All signs here are pointing to winter, leaves turning, birds starting to flock and on the 29th you won't find a swallow around.
Rick, enjoy as I know either Jane or I or someone else will keep the goodies coming.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
well I slept inlate this morning.Late enough I am going to weight and just eat a earley Noon meal. I have taken My vitials and sent them in to VA. Sorry!
Sad day.
Bob Barker, who starred for more than five consecutive decades as a TV game-show host, including 35 as the host of The Price Is Right, has died, according to his representative. He was 99 years old.
I'm tired right down to my show strings and I'm heading for the haystack! Cooper will be here early tomorrow and I'll need to take care of him and get myself ready for church in the morning. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!
Good morning..
Lovely temp to start out with 50°and a sunny day. We did get a sprinkle of rain yesterday but after the laundry was off the line.
A day of rest here, will finish cutting fabric for another quilt, after we take the garbage away.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning, AMY and anyone who shows up later. Cooper is here and has had all his "attention". I'm ready to leave for church and Cathy will be on her way to pick me up in a few minutes!
It's a bit on the chilly side here this morning...still only 67 degrees but heading for the 80s by mid afternoon.
I'm trying to decide what I want to make for supper! Any suggestions? I did take a couple of pork chops out of the freezer but I can put them back!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Well, I said "Good Morning to AMY this morning around 9 o'clock. And now I'm saying "Good Night" to myself around 6 p.m. It sure wasn't a busy day in here today and there are still lots of goodies left. I had a few but there's no way I can eat them all. I sure hope they don't spoil!
I might not be back to say Good Night so....Good Night to anyone who shows up!
I guess you didn't see me sneak in and out. Just grabbed a brownie and left - left no foot prints. It's been a real lazy day here - filled mostly with naps/TV.
Rick ,you must be wearing your sneakers! :2funny:
Jane, it is 61° here at the moment, I like this cooler weather. Great for sleeping!!
My lazy day was lovely!!
I, too am saying good night.
Enjoy your evening.
Good morning..
Another cool morning. A freezer needs dealing with today, clean it and see what all is or isn't in there..
Supper is bbq chicken, scalloped potates and a veggie, haven't decided on that yet with peach cobbler for dessert.
Sitting here thinking about the work won't get it done. :(
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
It is cloudy and muggy and the forecasters keep telling us it is going to rain but it hasn't yet. We need it badly but I hope it holds off for awhile since the repairmen are here repairing siding and damage from squirrels and raccoons. I'll be glad to get it done before something else has to be fixed. Painting of house and deck will be next, I think.
Other than that it is the usual laundry day and tidying up.
Take care, All.
Good morning, it seems we're hogging all the rain this Fall. Yesterday's low was 58, with a high of 63. Right now, it's 49 degrees and wet.
Yesterday was dull, with hours of moving computer info around from one external drive to another. Today will, unfortunately, be more of the same. I'm amazed at the dated information lurking in crevices and corners. Some of it as far back as 1998.
I need to do another house vacuuming sometime this week and clean my freezer. Thanks, Amy, for the reminder.

Good Afternoon!
Good Evening! And....
Good Night!
I've had a good day. Made Spaghetti and ate a lot of it! Let Cooper take me for 3 walks! Cleaned up the kitchen! Worked a crossword puzzle! Read a couple chapters of my book! Talked to all my kids on the computer and got a new picture of my youngest Great Grandson!
I think that's all but maybe I missed a few things.
PHYLLIS, I hope you get the stuff done on your house before something else "hollers" for attention!
It was a nice day here, too, AMY, but it did make it to 80 for about an hour then moved back down the thermometer. Our nights have all been in the low 60s and it does make sleeping easier!
Frankie is off tomorrow so I won't have Cooper. I'm thinking what I should get into while I have a little extra time. Hmmmmmm?
Have a good rest of the day and a Good Night! RICK, raid the cookies any time!
I WISH ANOTHER "GOOD MORNING" TO EVERYFRIEND!
Good morning..
Starting out at 40° and it will climb!
Work order was changed yesterday and outside work was done then in to bake bread and a cobbler. Maybe today or maybe not yesterdays work will get done. :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good day to anyone passing by. Starting a bit cooler, and that's good. Rain and thunderstorms predicted for this evening and through the night.

Another week up and running (away from me)‼️‼️
I managed to loose another post so I will do my best to concentrate so I do not loose another one😩🤪🤪
I had a bit of sadness to deal with last week, but I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and I am up and running again.
Worried about those in the path of Hurricane Idalia.....
Loved and laughed over your sayings AMY‼️ Thanks‼️
Not much else to talk about. Have a good day EVERYFRIEND.

I think my favorite is "Sometimes it takes me all day to get nothing done!" But they are really ALL good!
I made pumpkin pie today and left some in the Soda Shoppe. Eat it before it has a chance to spoil! I think it's pretty good!
Got a lot done but it probably doesn't show! Tomorrow we're heading for the Farmers Market and then I'll have tomatoes to do!
Good night! Sweet dreams!
Good night (after a piece of that pie).
Good morning..
Dark out there! No storm or rain like they had predicted over night, maybe today??
Not sure what is happening today, if I can get an appointment for Babe we will be taking her up to see why she is having trouble with one ear.
Jane, thank you for the delicious pumpkin pie!! I did put a dab of whipping cream on mine. After saying no more cucumbers I bought a 1/2 bushel to another recipe of icicle pickles. I know the lady is going to ask me if I made them so needed to do them to be able to say yes.
Patricia, if I can get the photo my friend sent me , I will try and post it. She and the dog were on a walk and saw a bear fishing..big black bear and thankfully he was more interested in eating his fish than them!!
Early start to the day today..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend and a special GOOD Morning to you, AMY. Interesting...I had some whipping cream on my pie, too! I wonder if RICK found it!
I'm up and attem early because Cooper will be here at 6:45 and I need to be ready to meet his needs so I can get a shower and into clean clothes and ready to head for the Farmers Market when Cathy says shes ready to go! All she said was "Wednesday morning" so I'm not sure yet!
We had a rain storm during the night and I had to run around closing windows and bringing in pads from the porch chairs. Then I had to change my jammies because it was blowing and I got pretty wet. All's well now and the garden got a nice watering!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow

I'm not a lover of whipped cream, so had my pie without it.
Everything is wet outside so guess we had rain during the night. Slight drizzle now and just above 70. Will be watching the Florida news about the hurricane.
We also had a nice rain here, much needed for the plants. We managed to get an appointment for the vet and will soon be going as it is almost a 2 hour drive.
Rick, you're not alone on not liking whipped cream, Kyle isn't a fan either..
Good morning, 53 and more rain at 7:54 in the morning. Thankfully, they're promising sunshine for September other than the first week. Nothing is planned here except finishing a few delayed chores and computer cleanouts.
Amy, I saw your photo and hope it was zoomed. Grizzly and black bears are roaming about, trying to bulk up for the winter. In 2019, they had to shoot a black bear and two cubs because the mama bear had ripped off the lid of a large chest freezer in someone's open garage, and she and her yearling cubs had become a nuisance in the neighborhood. In 2021, a black bear chased and killed a sixteen-year-old boy during a cross-country race. They follow the moose and other animals into the city outskirts during fall, and kids are driven to bus stops where they wait for the bus in cars.
Goodnight Everyfriend!
Good morning.
Fall is putting its feet closer to us, 38° sweater weather!
Babe came home with an antibiotic for 5 days to take. I cut the pill in half, yes it is big and wrap it in a piece of cheese and then the game begins.
Work around home today and get outside jobs wrapped up.May pull the beets, will see how the day goes.
Patricia, wild animals are to be respected, they were here first then people built homes. The next door neibour got a surprise when a bear went in and rumaged around his garage!
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning One and All! I've been up and attem for a bit. Cooper spent the night so we had our breakfast together and then I got dressed and we went for a walk. Now he's out in the front yard doing his thing and I've been in the kitchen getting my tomatoes on and cooking down to make sauce. It will be canned later today. And the dishwasher is pretty full! It will get a run today.
AMY, I thought it was cold here at 59 degrees. I'm not ready for the 30s yet! I think I might be able live with a permanant 50s, 60s and once and a while into the 70s. But I'll take whatever comes.
I'm going to go get the canner and the jars and lids ready next! It'll take a couple hours for the tomatoes to turn into tomato sauce so I have some time!
AMY, I hope your four-legged friend feels better soon. I know how hard it is to get pills into them. I used to pick out something I knew they loved to eat and stick the pills in that. I worked for my doggies!
Cooper loves being out in my yard but he sure does find lots to bark at out there. We're working on the "no barking" thing and when he doesn't bark, I wonder if he somehow got out and I keep going to the door to check on him. I'm not sure if it's easier if he barks or nicer if he doesn't!
i've just about finished my second cup of coffee so I better get a "wiggle on" or I won't be ready whe the sauce is! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.
Cool, calm, and quiet here. Down just below 60 last night. Seems we very often have the same weather conditions as Jane. But then, --- I think I am just a bit East of her.
I'm going to have a Bill paying day today. Time to write out some checks for my creditors - keep them happy. Then, if the weather continues as is, some time "resting" on the (small) front porch.
The hurricane passed us by. A little bit of wind and a nice gentle rain...which we needed....and now the sun is out. Also, the repair company finished up repairing all of the animal damage just before the rain started and what is even better...they did a great job. I cringed when I handed over final check but that is part of the joy of dealing with house upkeep. The company was prompt, business-like, did a good job, and cleaned up everything before they left. I'll call them again.
The world is looking brighter to me today.
Take care, All.
Some baking done, some potatoes dug and now to sew:) Still have two trugs with potatoes in them to do but they can wait. Saved out the tiny potatoes to wash off ,leave whole and have with supper tonight.
Phyllis, that sounds like a great company to hang onto plus recommend them to others.
Jane, so far the pill in the cheese is working, when it doesn't then it is a choice of peanut butter or a slice of meat. What we don't do to get meds in them!!
The tomato sauce is all done and sitting on the dining room table. Tomorrow morning the jars will be wiped and labeled and put on the shelves to be ready to use when the snow flies!
RICK, I think you might be a 3 to 4 hour drive from where I live. The weather probably passes through here and hits you on it's way to the ocean!
I'm off to the haystack. I'm worn out right down to the floor so I'm hitting the haystack on the way! Sleep well and wake up ready for the day! I have to be up to meet Cooper at 6:45. Today he spent the whole day out in the yard. He only asked to come in once and he got a drink of water and was right back outside! He's not going to like it when winter shows up!
Last couple of days have been a bit cRaZy around here.
Yesterday I had to go to the same pain center where I received epidural shots last May. I thought my doctor could just set them up again... but NO. A new reevaluation had to be done before I could get more steroid shots for my painful back/hip/leg done. I was a bit perturbed about having to do this. That being said, I had a VERY thorough exam done by a very kind professional PA-C. Way more questions asked and exam done that told me more about the condition of my lower back AND my neck issues. I was SO HAPPY I went. I was to schedule an appointment (first available was the end of October) to get lower back done ASAP. BIG emphasis put on me getting on a wait list for cancellations. The Good Lord was watching out for me....they just had a cancellation that I could go to if we would drive about 45 minutes to the South in Colorado Springs. We jumped on it immediately.
The drive down is always a fun thing to do......anytime I can view Pikes Peak and the towers on the chapel at the Air Force Academy I am in awe! The appointment went smoothly and with any hope I will get a good ride out of these shots. They are quite uncomfortable, as many of you might know, but I have a very strong threshold for pain and I only oohed a couple of times as quietly as possible. Tonight I am having quite a few moving serges of pain in a few spots that RE the troubled ones.....so just hoping it will be much better tomorrow 🤪🤪🥰🥰
PHYLLIS, so glad you had minimal issues from Idalia at your home. I feel your pain for the cost of repairs at your home. Everything costs so much to get done these days. We are going to be doing the same thing shortly here at our home. A couple of neighbors have just finished repairs on siding from " critters" of some kind. Our HOA does the painting that we are more than due for, but all repairs are our responsibility 😩
AMY, I just saw a joke about doggies discussing pills being hidden in something....so funny but unfortunately I did not snag it🤪🤪. Hope the pills have Babe covered well so no infections ‼️‼️
Dr. Dave will bring Lola and Mönch over early tomorrow morning to spend the weekend with us as he and his kiddos are going to CA to visit our youngest son and DIL.
I am about to head off to bed.....not feeling too great. Pleasant dreams to all and please enjoy my piece of Pumpkin Pie....with cream or without....as it is not one of the things I am willing to waste my calories on....but THANK YOU JANE for sharing.
