"I like to compare the holiday season with the way a child listens to a favorite story. The pleasure is in the familiar way the story begins, the anticipation of familiar turns it takes, the familiar moments of suspense, and the familiar climax and ending."—Fred Rogers. The holiday season is a great time to reflect on what you're grateful for (like the ability to do your favorite Christmas traditions).

All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)
Song by Alvin and the Chipmunks

Everybody stops and stares at me
These two teeth are gone as you can see
I don't know just who to blame for this catastrophe
But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as can be

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
My two front teeth
See my two front teeth
Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth
Then I could wish you, "Merry Christmas"

It seems so long since I could say
"Sister, Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be, if I could only whistle

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
My two front teeth
See my two front teeth
Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth
Then I could wish you, "Merry Christmas"

It seems so long since I could say
"Sister, Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be, if I could only whistle

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
My two front teeth
See my two front teeth
Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth
Then I could wish you, "Merry Christmas"

Good Morning!  BUBBLE, I'm with AMY!  We're just so happy to see you whenever we do!  The news is so bad from your area that we all worry about your safety.  And you are in my prayers daily!

I wish Everyfriend a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning...

Starting off at 33° with a high of 39° today.  We cleaned off the snow yesterday to get ready for snow tomorrow. The long trips the past couple of days made me lazy and now I need to play catch up. Will throw a beef barely soup on in the instant pot while I work about. First we need to pick up meds in town then home to work.

Jenny, a belated :hb3:  :hb3:  :hb3: to you, hope your day was special :hb2:  :hb2:  :hb2:

Better get a skip in my step...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Thanks for understanding. I am very lucky: I am in the safest town in the whole country I think. Far enough from the north and the south that rockets ( up to now) do not reach us.  Life in town continues as in normal time and the cafes lining the main street are still full of retirees enjoying their breakfast in a autumnal sun.
I myself prefer not to go out too much.

BUBBLE, I'm sure all of us worry about your safety!  I'm glad that you are where you are!

JENNY, I'm so sorry to have missed your birthday but it looks like everyone in your family is doing something special for you.  Enjoy your day and your family.  And I wish you well with your upcoming surgery.  If you can, let us know how that goes!  Prayers go out for you, too!

Cooper is going to take me for a walk in this 30 degree weather.  I'm not sure I'm up to this but he's insisting!  I'm off!

Good morning, I should post the same as Rick with nothing happening or scheduled for today. Another quiet day inside for me. I hate to venture out anymore in this ice and cold without a waiting ride.

Jenny, I hope you enjoyed your birthday, Happy Belated Birthday! And nice to hear you're enjoying family time and that all things go well for you on the sixth.

Happy Birthday, Jenny. :wave2:

Thanks, Bubble.  Stay safe.

Cold and dreary here.  I'm buried under a sweater,
a long sleeved shirt, a knit t-shirt, and a furry throw and listening to a book by Jan Karan.  I'm not going anywhere!  Except  to  go to the  kitchen  to fix sausage  and  waffles for  dinner.

THANK YOU ALL for the nice Birthday Greetings ‼️

We finished our Christmas Decorating today.  Bob got most of the boxes back down stairs until it is time to take them all back up and then down again‼️‼️

Thank you, BUBBLE for our nice new SODA SHOPPE. Everyday I pray for your safety as well as your family and your country🙏🙏🙏 I have to say it makes me feel a bit better when you tell of your location and it being about as safe as it can be from the horrible rockets.🙏

Burrrr PHYLLIS......IT isn't quite that cold here but it is chilly out and a storm is coming our way.  They say the mountains, especially the Southwest Moutainds will be getting a lot of accumulation, but not so much here in town.  Our granddaughter is dancing tonight at a tree lighting and I sure hope it would not be too cold and snowy for her.  Yummy sounding dinner....I would like to join you and David‼️

Must get ready to go watch the show‼️‼️

Have a good evening EVERYFRIEND 🦋🦋

Belated Birthday Greetings to Jenny!

Doctor said both hands (yes, the other one started hurting  :tickedoff: ) have osteoarthritis and tendinitis and I've been doing the right thing - wearing a soft brace on each hand, icing them, resting, etc.  Just have to wait it out. :'(

I can manage meals and personal stuff -  but can't twist (like lids or the ignition to the car) or squeeze tubes very well. I can now touch type on my compter keyboard but will stick with reading and expressions - are they "memes"? - on here for now.

Decorating?????  :o  I just now bagged/boxed the Fall things and put the pumpkins from the flower bed in the trash!!!!
Will get the next son who comes to bring in the tub of Christmas decorations and will see how far I get with those.

Hello Everyfriend!  I have no idea where this day has gone but I must have been busy because I really tired.

Tomorrow Cooper will be arriving at about 6:45 and will probably be spending the night with me.  Frankie has to pick up a new--er car tomorrow and her father is meeting her to help her get that done after work!  So I'll have a bedfellow tomorrow night!

JENNY, I have three boxes of decorations in my "junk room" (no basement in this house) and Cindy put the tree up before she left on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  I've been decorating stuff ever since they left!  The candles are in the windows; the lights are on the tree; the outside flags are up; the Christmas pillows are on the sofa; there are decorations in my bedroom; and some other "sitty-around" stuff is out.  I'm working on it!  Maybe that's what's making me tired!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow...or maybe a SAFE tomorrow in Israel!

Good morning..

We had a dusting of snow during the night, maybe 1-2 inches.

Laundry day plus finish cleaning out the old van and getting it ready to sell.
Didn't get that soup made yesterday as the floors were needing attention. So it may get made unless another project rears its head.

Callie, sorry to hear about your hands. Tendinitis is nasty amd makes using hands /arms painful.I used an epicondylitis brace when mine flared up, thankfully it hasn't flared up in a long time.

Better get the day started..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning!  AMY, we didn't have your snow but we had fog so bad I couldn't see to the other side of my yard!  It's better now but still bad.

When Frankie dropped off Cooper today she sounded like she should be back home in bed.  I didn't go near her but told her I hope her boss heard the same thing from her that I did.  He Boss DID!  She's back home in bed and I have Cooper unlimited!  We'll see what she's cooking up inside her!

I don't have any real plans for today but lots of stuff is shouting for attention.  I'd really like to get the Christmas decorating done but it's making progress between other stuff!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. Enjoy whatever life brings your way!

Good late morning from an icy, chill Interior at minus 6. It was minus 9 when I forced myself out of the covers this morning! In early March minus 6 will seem like a heat wave as I know what's coming with January and February! Having said that, Mother Nature's likely to throw an entirely different scenario our way.

I finally started that turkey this morning after putting it off. Five hours at 325° heats this old place. Yesterday we received notice that the bigwigs from the capital will be in town again for a structural inspection and we're asked to call in any needed repairs to maintenance now. That will be interesting as the main maintenance guy is very cat allergic as most building cat owners are aware. We're certainly not at the top of his list!

The inspections for my floor will be on the thirteenth and no time is set as they will be doing two floors each day. Should I mention that rents go up as repairs get stalled? Hmmmm.

Good morning..

A day of rest here..

Lunch has been taken care of thanks to Phyllis's 15 bean soup (finally got it made yesterday) and supper is breaded pork tenderloin with vegetables.,just heat and eat. :)

Not sure what else will happen, just know I would like to start a new sewing project so maybe that will pan out???

Jane, a lot of "stuff" shouts here also , some gets done others get duck tape till I am ready to do it. :))

Patricia, good luck on getting what needs done....notice that they do want their rent money on time??

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning All!  Cooper spent the night here but Frankie says she's going to pick him up today!  I'm hoping she waits until I'm home from church because she tested positive for COVID and I'd prefer that those germs stay outside.  Old people seem to be dying of this disease faster than young people.  I wonder if that was true of the diseases that passed when I was young!

I better go get ready for church!  Have a good day!

Good morning, minus 18 and clear outside which means no humidity, no heat out there, and possibilities of a deeper temperature plunge. Our proposed high will be minus 7 and tomorrow' will be supposedly minus 1/ minus 8. I shouldn't complain as I do live in the Arctic and the deeper cold keeps all those little nasty creatures, bad plants, poison ivies, and some viruses away. Then there's the 24/7 summer daylight. You can't have it both ways.

Amy, the more behind they get the more their hand is out, oddly enough.

Jane, enjoy your time with Cooper. And keep Frankie out of the house, Covid is a sneaky one and catches you unexpectedly.

Yesterday I cooked the turkey and promptly cut, carved, and deboned it before freezing the meat. Everyone's flush with turkeys and you can't give it away. It will be there when I've got a taste for it again.

Jane, I agree with Patricia.......no one in your house!! I think Frankie should leave you with the snuggler while she recuperates from this...saves her taking the Coop out.

We are getting rain, then snow and if qwe get a lot the Drs appointment qwill be cancelled for tomorrow. Right now we have our stomach full of Phyllis's 15 bean soup!! A hearty soup with veggies and beans.

Well, she came and took Cooper home but all her stuff was outside on the swing and all I had to do was open the door and let Cooper out and he ran right to her.  So I have the next 4 days all alone.  I miss him already!

I guess this will force me to get the work done around here!  Today went by pretty fast but I didn't get home from church until almost 12:15.  That took care of the morning.  I'm wondering what I did with the rest of the day!  I now have an "in-family" accountant.  My daughter Cathy is taking over my books and she's very particular about things like that.  She called me for info 4 times today!  And I've put her on name on my bank accounts so she can handle things when I go to find my parents and my puppies!

I sure hope you all had a good day and I sure hope those low temps stay in Alaska.  I'm not ready for winter!  Today, it rained all day here.  I'm kind of glad I didn't have to go for a walk in it with my doggy friend!  But I seem to have collected a bunch of footsteps inside!  Makes me wonder?

I think I'll go watch Perry Mason...or maybe sleep through Perry Mason!  I do that often!  Good Night Everyfriend!  Sleep well and wake refreshed to a new day!

Hello all you purveyors of wonderful food!  I tried a new recipe today.  I had been longing for some white bean soup.  First tasted it at my neighborhood home cooking style restaurant.Anyway, I made the recipe as I had printed it off, only using spinach instead of kale, which I didn't have on hand, and don't know if I like it or not.  The recipe is for White Bean Soup with Sausage and Kale.
I used sweet Italian sausage rather than the kielbasa it called for. It has onions, garlic, Italian seasoning, chicken broth, no-salt added diced tomatoes with canned Cannellini beans (white beans/navy beans basically. While the soup was really flavorful, I can already see where I can make other changes next time around.  I ate two fairly large bowls of it. So none will go to waste. Next time: More beans, less tomatoes. Spinach worked fine, but I may try kale next time (I figure I can always fish it out of the pot if I don't like it). I think this effort would go nice with some of the cold rainy weather you all are having.  It was 70 degrees here today. I meant to do a pan of cornbread muffins, but was too tired after all the prepping and gathering ingredients (I did beforehand mostly).  I'm having a nice glass of sweet iced tea with lemon. And getting ready to watch another football game.If anyone wants the recipe as I printed it off from somewhere, I will post in "What's for Dinner" later. Oh, the aroma filled the house, and I kept getting hungrier and hungrier.

Good morning...

Not sure what is happening today, will know better when day breaks. We were to head to the city and then a Dr appointment but if weather conditions are not nice we will stay put.

Last evening the branches were cracking under the weight of the ice and I thought we may lose power but it did stay on. Snow fell and covered up the ice which is good , walking won't be so treacherous.

Tome, yes please post your bean soup recipe. Have you tried Phyllis's 15 bean soup recipe? We are working on that one now, a nice hearty soup.

Jane, I am sure Cooper is going to miss his visits with you.

Patracie, I wish what happens in the clouds would stay in the clouds and not grace our driveway. :)

Better go see what the day will bring, enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good afternoon, 3:14 PM and minus 11 in the Interior. I was out most of the day with appointments and errands and tomorrow will be the same.

Later in the week or next, I'll be calling the Senior center regarding how their van schedules, cost, and procedures work. I do know you have to call 24 hours in advance to schedule your times and limitations.

Then the thirteenth is the big structural inspection.

With the Social Security increase, everyone is raising their bills and or lowering what we receive from them. I imagine we will be in the same place afterward that we were before.

As for Christmas, I'm not feeling it, very much in a Scrooge mode as there is so much end-of-year push and pull

Well, this was a busy day!  I got lots done and every time I sat down I thought of something that I had to get up and go do!  I think I'm finally all decorated and I have a bunch of gift but I have to get them together and see whats missing!

I mixed the peanut butter cups and the coconut cups and making them is on tomorrow's agenda.  That will keep me busy tomorrow and I hope I finish that job.  Right now, I'm tired way down past my toenails and way up above my hair.  I'm not even sure which is front and which is back!

PATRICIA, you have a lot of "stuff" going on in your life right now!  It doesn't sound much like a holiday in progress!  I hope it all goes well!

AMY, stay in and away from all that bad weather but please don't send it south.

I had a long phone conversation with my sister today and made plans to visit with her the first week of January.  She will turn 90 on January 3 and, if the weather cooperates, I'll be spending the day with her!  She's still living in her house and mostly taking care of herself but she doesn't drive any more either!

Now, I just looked out in the hall and the haystack has come after me!  I better close and jump in there!  I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow!  Make the the day your own!

Jane, Bri has been baking up a storm also and will do more today.

Patricia, hope the inspection goes well.Would'nt it be nice if everything that needed fixing got fixed??

Rick, good morning. Are you and your son watching Oak Island ? Maybe, just maybe the treasure will be found this year! Another good show is Brumuda Triangle : Into Cursed Waters.

It's a weekly event here. Keep in mind that what we are seeing happened during the past summer. So if they hit the jackpot I doubt we would be seeing it. It would have been all over the news. ------ But still fun to watch. The Bermuda Triangle has always been of interest to me. But I usually fall asleep in my recliner during it.

Good morning!  I am not very good at texting.
So, I will keep this short. I am still around but mostly confined to the wheelchair and that doesn't  fit at the desk where my lap top is.  Wish Bubble could
give me  some  lessons  on how to use it efficiently.
At least I can get around after a fashion.

It  is a beautiful sunny day here  but, getting colder tomorrow.  I have difficulty putting bean soup together now but I have discovered Amy's soups and they are very good.  (Not  our  Amy...at least,  I don't  think  so!) Get them delivered from Amazon and ready to heat.
We especially like the lentil.

Take care,  All.

Good morning again, I had thoughtlessly navigated away from my first post and had to begin a second time. It's warmed in that brief time from minus eleven to minus eight and still cloudy, so those clouds will hold some heat in and perhaps bring warmer temperatures.

It's nice to see you posting, Phyllis, I know what you mean about adjusting to new times and changes. I seem to always be black and bruised and having to be careful moving. And I love Amy's soup and always stock up on sales. They don't have the chemicals as other soups do, so I can enjoy them without worrying about an allergic reaction.

I have to go out again today for some last errands and hope not to go anywhere without a ride for a while afterward.

Perhaps that's what happened to the ships, Rick. They fell asleep. I'm not familiar with Oak Island. I sold my last television in 1997 and YouTube is fine for an alternative.

Amy told me about a kangaroo who went on the lam during a transfer in Canada. Authorities received many confused sighting reports during its brief escape, and it punched a cop when they pulled its tail during recapture.

Amy the structural inspection is on the thirteenth and no timeline set as they will be doing two floors a day while they're here. I don't expect any changes, repairs have gone downhill since Covid-19, when they let the majority of both maintenance and security go.

The one we usually get is allergic to cats, which more residents have than dogs, so he's in and out, blaming cats for his negligence. We're to call maintenance before the inspection, but I don't foresee any changes. The maintenance answering line is in Anchorage, so that adds more time in between.

Amy, my sister, purchased a new to her SUV for her upcoming summer's cross-country road trip with her two friends. They're ten years younger than me and still looking forward to getting out and about on multiple trips. Twenty years ago, they were in Europe more than they were in the US. So, she's also cleaning up her old car for resale.

Jane, I should be baking, but that's another thing I'm not doing more of. About the only baking I do anymore is carbs rather than sweets. How are you doing without Cooper, a bit rudderless?

CC, Amy's soups are available in many groceries. Look for them in the organic aisles. I don't shop at Walmart, but I've found them in both Safeway and Kroger's Fred Meyers.

It used to be one could go all day  AND all night, now I am happy just to go part of the day. :) Vehicle is ready to be sold, plus a few other needed to do jobs.

Rick, I really enjoy watching both shows and have also peeked into Skinwalker Ranch.

Patricia, that poor roo must have been so scared!! Thankfully the weather wasn't all that cold , I did chuckle when they said she hit a policeman though. That will teach him to touch a female without asking.. :2funny:

Phyllis, good to see you.you will get the hang of the wheelchair in time....just don't go popping wheelies in it!!  We have the transport wheelchair that Kyle used when taking chemo and it is light to get in and out of a vehicle....but has to be pushed from behind.

Howdy Doody EveryFriend!  This was a busy day!  I wonder if I keep going so I don't miss my little buddy?  I'm worn out again tonight.  I didn't get the PB cups and Coconut Cups done today because the bag I thought was the Christmas forms turned out to be Easter.  I spent another hour moving, checking boxes and replacing a lot of stuff.  I even chucked some of it in the garbage.  But now I found the Christmas one and I have everything laid out and ready to go tomorrow.

I talked to Frankie and she seems a bit better but she has a long way to go.  She says she and Cooper are enjoying just loafing together!

All of you, I've never heard of AMY'S SOUPS but I'm going to check them out!

Around here, the temps got up into the low 40s but are headed into the medium 30s overnight.  Not freezing temps tonight.  I'll take that!  PATRICIA, you can keep the freezing ones up there.  I don't think I'd ever leave my home if I lived where you do!

PHYLLIS, you can do it!  Make that chair serve you!  Don't let it boss you around!  It doesn't even have a brain.  You can win this one!

I'm doing a couple "Good Night" jobs when I finish here and then I'm heading for the haystack.  I have a big day tomorrow and I want to finish this part of the candy making.  I'm also trying to gather the Christmas gift in the spare bedroom so I can see what I have and what I still need.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  Make the day your own in every way!

I'm back, got home around four or four thirty, poorer, sadder and beat. Trudging from office, waiting in line or on a chair and then moving around to do it all over again. They don't make it easy on these old bones.

Then off to a nearby grocery to load up on fruit. Apples, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and golden raisins before collecting some chunky peanut butter for a recipe.

I talked to a friend, and she told me about seeing an influencer of some sort on YouTube who boiled honey, mixing it with chili. Has anyone else heard of or done that? I don't know if it's for a specific type of chili or a general addition. Supposedly it's good together.

I should go back out next week or so for groceries, but I think I'm going to hibernate.

I have continued to enjoy all of my Birthday celebrations‼️

We had a wonderful time at our grandson's birthday party on Saturday.  He had a wonderful time and when it was over mine started.  So much fun.

We enjoyed The Nutcracker Ballet on Sunday so much with Dr. Dave and Family.  My Birthday Dinner was at a beautiful restaurant and our table was the best view of our beautiful Colorado Mountains.

Tomorrow is my surgery.  I had some last minute calls that were rather annoying to say the least.  The surgeon s office called to tell me I needed to go to a medical supply store to be fitted and pick up my neck brace on my way to the hospital to check in.  I had specifically asked them last week at my pre-op appointment about the neck brace and they assured me it would be at the hospital for me.  After two more calls we went back to plan A....the company will come to me in pre-op and measure me there.  Shaking my head.......does anyone ever do their jobs these days?

It will all be good.....just want to get it done and start my healing process.

I will look forward to getting back in to the SS when I can.

Have a good evening EVERYFRIEND 🦋🦋

Good Morning to Everyfriend!  I'm checking in early so I can get busy on the jobs that are waiting.  Also, Cathy will be over later to help me set up the window candles that will then be automatic.  No running around window to window to turn them off before I collapse for the day.  And there is a remote control to turn them on.  She has them in her windows and helped me order them for my windows!

AMY, I didn't send you the snow.  It hasn't been cold enough to snow around here.  We've had a couple of rainy day but not even a threat of snow.  Maybe PATRICIA had something to do with it!

It's daylight now so I better go get dressed and get my morning walk in and put the chocolate on to melt.  I'm determined to finish the cups today and hopefully some lollypops to ship to Oklahoma for the kids!

JENNY, you are also in MY prayers!  I hope all goes will with your neck procedure and the healing process is rapid!  After all you've been through, you deserve a rapid recovery!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way

Good morning from a warmer and cloudy Interior at five above.

Jane, it wasn't me, although it may be later as conditions warm. So far, we are less than 72% of our normal seasonal snow pack. Now ice I would love to send elsewhere, we have had enough of that commodity! I'd love to have seen you busily counting each stray flake!

Jenny, I'm sending you healing wishes and hoping all goes well today. You've certainly been through the wringer medically the past few years. You deserve some healing time.

Amy, there you go wandering off again. You do lead a busy life, do you ever simply put your feet up and say, "Nope, not moving from here today."

She never said, Amy, why she was boiling honey to go with her chili, apart from the two went well together, or at least not that I was told. I did a search and was surprised to see the number of cooking links that popped up.

I thought these influencers were there to sell products by associating with and promoting various brands. My friend said there was a shot of heating chili with a wet sheen in the video. Evidently, this particular young woman travels the world couch-surfing but is now looking to settle again.

Her last settled period was three years in Toronto with a visa, but she is from Australia. I believe, she last spent time in Japan. She has a shop on Etsy, which evidently is mobile and pays well.

At that age, I was following my husband around various military bases and seeing more of the US. My younger sister, at that age, was traveling the world, seeing China, Australia, England, and France before settling with her then Italian boyfriend in Florence and attending a cooking institute. She calls herself an introvert, but she has more friends, ideas, and travels than I ever had or dreamed.

The only time I stepped out of the country was a day trip into Mexico.

I was going to make some bean soup today, probably a five bean as I have several varieties, but I never did get any cleaned and soaked, so that may be this weekend or later.

Well, AMY, I forgive you for the 1/2 snowflake!  We didn't get any more all day!  It happened just as I passed the place where the kids get the school bus and I looked at two little girls and said, "Do you see snowflakes?"  They both grinned all over their faces and said a big "YES"!  I bet they were disappointed!

I finished the pb cups and the coconut cups and I have all the stuff laid out for the lollypops and pretzels for the kids.   But I need a quick trip to the store for more chocolate before I can do them.  Cathy is taking me to the store tomorrow but I'm not sure when.  She's going to let me know in the morning!  If it's not until afternoon, I'll be working on Christmas wrapping in the morning.

Right now, I'm ready to collapse!  I'm not tired up the gazoo or down to my toenails.  I'm so tired I don't know where it starts or stops!  I'm ready to hop in but I have a couple things to finish up first!

PATRICIA, I'm going to check out those recipes, too.  I seem to remember someone in my family putting honey in something that surprised me and it was probably my Dad's Mom because they had bee hives on the farm.  That was something I didn't pick up!  But I like honey in some stuff that no one else I know uses it!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great tomorrow!  Make it your very own day special in every way!

Good morning, we never got any snow yesterday. We're back to minus two and clear.

I hope you're feeling good today, Jenny, after your procedure. I noticed you've been liking posts, again. I'm glad to see you back with us.

Not only that, but I see both Jane and Amy are back at it again today, those two must have some remarkable battery packs.

And both of you have snow. I never thought I'd say this...and I know what I'm inviting, but please send some our way. These icy clear days are beginning to wear on everyone here.

AccuWeather is predicting a large snow, wind and rainstorm beginning Friday from Michigan down and on to the Atlantic coast through the weekend. We're getting snow Friday morning too, an entire 0.01 inch! Then it's back to clear skies and no real snow. The insurance companies have been busier than usual this winter!

I use honey to sweeten various foods and drinks, and I cook with it. But those links showed numerous cooking ideas I've never heard of. Since I rarely bake other than biscuits and other carbs, I haven't had sugar in the house for over six months. I prefer local honey, but the bartering I and others were accustomed to is gone, as conditions and people have changed. Now, in the local health food stores and farmer's markets, I'm encountering sticker shock.

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends.

Unfortunately my surgery was cancelled.  I followed my PCP's list of meds that were OK to take and took my Metformin for diabetes...
The Anesthesiologist  did not like this and would not allow the surgery to proceed.  My blood sugar was higher than normal, which added to the issue. They did more blood work before I left the hospital and the results seem to be good enough that they might proceed as soon as it can be rescheduled🤷

Again , I thank you and appreciate all of your support😍.  I am of course EXTREMELY disappointed that it could not be done.  I have been on pins and needles FOR SUCH A LONG TIME and the thought of starting over is so hard to accept.

Yesterday after we got home I was exhausted.......I sat in my recliner and snoozed off and on the rest of the day.  Then
I went to bed and slept 8 more hours.  Today I am just trying to block this issue out and trying to move on to other important things and let the process takes its course.

Patricia, I loved the honey recipes you shared.  I have always made a pretty darn good chili, but the last couple of times it just didn't taste right.  I will try one of these recipes asap.  Thank you for sharing.

RAMMEL, I absolutely agree with you.  I have had experiences with this more than one time.  As much as the medical profession has dealt with diabetes it seems there is STILL a lot unknown about it.  I have always had strange issues with mine.  I have a rise in the early morning hours even when I am very careful of what I am eating the night before.
I am so sorry that you are dealing with shingles😩 I had my time with them, but a pack of steroids took care of mine.  I wonder why you have had them so long?  I still have the marks on my back from them after 5 years or so ago.

Rick, so sorry to read that. Shingles are VERY painful..thankfully I haven't had them but Kyle has plus friends have also dealt with them. Hope they soon go away for you.

Jane, have you found the stop button for the snow yet???

Everyone over 60 should get the shingles vaccine. I would encourage anyone to get it. The Flu comes, makes us miserable, then goes. This shingles just hangs around- messing up everything.
I can't imagine having it under the fingernails, or anywhere on the hands

That snow that you all were talking about tried to come here. All we got were a few flurries - and that's just fine.

Well, we only got about an inch and a half of snow altogether and once the road was cleared, my driveway took care of itself.  Cathy did pick me up to make a trip to WM and to the Starbucks store to pick up a gift for my SIL!

Then I spent the rest of the day making candy and about 15 minutes ago, I ran out of dipping chocolate with about 20 crackers to go and all the long pretzels to go.  I'm hoping my DIl is available for a quick trip to the country market tomorrow morning to get the last of the chocolate.  I have to have to Christmas stuff ready to go to Texas and Oklahoma and one or two other places by Monday or it will be late.  The only place that will REALLY matter is the Great Grands in OK!

Now, I'm ready to throw in the towel for today!  I'm ready to get some rest and a new start tomorrow.  And I just realized that I already threw in three towels...dish towels with chocolate all over them.  I threw them in the wash!

Now I know I'm tired!  I'm getting loopy!  Good night to all of you!  I'm saying a prayer for all of you.  I think we all need one!  Sleep well and wake to a good day tomorrow.

So sorry,  Rick.   I have had them, too,
and didn't think it was a fun thing to go through either.

Quiet and cloudy here.  With David's help I got my hair washed.   Feels much better.  He grumbled a little about not being a lady's maid but willingly helped me and did a good job.  It brightens my whole day to get my hair washed.  He  looked a bit disgruntled when I said something about trimming a couple of inches next time.
He will survive.   ::)

Not a speed demon yet, Amy, but I haven't run over anyone yet.   I have run into a chair or door jam, now and then.

PHYLLIS, I run into chairs and door jambs when I'm just walking.  I have to watch where I'm going.  Good for you getting a shampoo from your private "beautician"!

AMY, at least you spent the day making things that you can eat for/with meals!  I worked all day and my fridge is filled with candy!  I'm finished making it and tomorrow it will be packed for putting in Christmas boxes and bags!  All the lollys are in their bags and as soon as I finish cleaning up and find myself some supper, I'm going to sit down with "Perry Mason" and close the individual bags and then divide them into Christmas bags for presentation!  Some will go to Oklahoma and some will accompany me on my walks and be dropped off for my kid friends around here!

Sunday, my plan is church in the morning and pack boxes that need to be mailed in the afternoon because Cathy is heading for UPS on Monday and I'm grabbing onto the bumper of her car and going with her!

Now, I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow!  I might not make it back here tonight.  The tireds are creeping up on me!

The Tanana Valley temperatures will drop to 10 to 20 below tonight and Saturday, with 20 to 30 below possible by Sunday. The Northern Interior will see temperatures drop to 20 to 30 below on Saturday night and Sunday. A warming trend is expected over the Interior starting on Monday.

A colder airmass has now moved over the Interior. Clearing skies over the Southern Interior will allow surface temperatures to drop tonight. The Northern Interior have clouds and snow tonight and Saturday, but then clear Saturday night and Sunday allowing the temperatures over the Northern Interior to drop then. This weekend is expected to bring the coldest temperatures so far this year to the Interior.

Well, it sounds like most of us are dealing with various annoying problems this month. My latest is that my car will not pass inspection until my rear brakes are replaced. The front are not in good shape either, I think just the pads for them. So, another big bill to try and juggle. And here I had hoped not to spend a lot this year to help rebuild my reserves. Hah!

I need to take my sister to her surgeon's appt on Tuesday, my rear brakes won't be fixed until Wed. The mechanic assures me that it is okay to driver the car even though he said he is seeing metal on metal now. That seems rather disturbing to me. Maybe I should have Sue find one of her friends to take her?

Like Jane, we got just a little snow the other day which melted quickly. Today will be in the 50's. Tomorrow, instead of snow, we will be getting heavy rain all day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

MARAGAL, I think I'd think twice before driving a car with bad brakes!  If your sister has someone else to take her to the dr. that sounds like a good idea.  Seems like there's always something!

Frankie is still not allowed to go back to work but she has a couple of things to do today so I might have Cooper for a little bit.  And since my fridge is filled with candy that needs to be boxed or wrapped for Christmas gifts that's my agenda for the day!

PATRICIA, please keep that awful sounding weather up there where it belongs and don't get caught out in it.

MYCHEAL, nice to see you posting.  I'm glad to see that you are enjoying the season!

Now, I've finished my breakfast. It's time to get dressed and get started on the candy...again!  I'll be glad when it's finished and ready to go!  Enjoy your day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning...

Calling for rain sometime today. Busy day ahead with more baking after we get home from a craft show.

Jane ,are you taste testing all these goodies?

MG, we just went through a raft of repairs and now the vehicle is up for sale. We do have a backup vehicle and we can sell the other one in good conscience that all is good with it.

Mycheal, good to see you and hope all is well there.

Patricia, time to break out the lj's.  That bitter cold goes right through me!!

Work isn't getting done with me sitting here...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Could it be Long-Johns, Patricia?

I called Sue this morning to tell her I would rather not risk it. She was able to get a friend,  who live relatively close, to take her over. Cathy even lives on that side of the river and on the same side of Harrisburg.

Well, I think you're pretty lucky if the cold "goes right through you"!  Unfortunately, it stops everywhere there's a place to stop in my body...my hands, my feet, my seat, my ears, my nose, my front and back, my top and bottom, even my elbows get cold!.  How do you manage to make it go "right through you"?

I finished the candy about 15 minutes ago!  And now I'm having Shirley's Taco Soup for supper and then I'm going to clean off the dining room table!  Cooper came over in the late morning and Frankie goes back to work tomorrow.  She did a bunch of out-of-town errands with her father and she's not home yet so the Cooper-Snoop is spending the night with me.

MARSGAL, I'm glad you didn't go out driving with bad brakes.  Sounds like it wasn't a problem for your sister's friend!

AMY, the only candy that really tests me when I'm making it is the Coconut Cups.  I'm coconut NUT and these are my favorites.  I'm lucky that not a lot of my family likes them so I get to keep a big bunch of them.

Tomorrow's chore is packing the boxes to send to family I won't see this Christmas.  I have mixed feelings here because my oldest grandson who has lived many places in the world is coming home this Christmas from Mexico and bringing his new wife (I've only met her on the phone).  I'm delighted about that. But my Texans and Oklahomans will not be home and that's children, grandchildren and great grands!  BooHoo!

I think I better put this place in order pretty quick because I'm beginning to feel the busy-ness of the day!  Gettin' tired!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!  And if you have snow and ice, keep it where you are.  I don't want it!

Rain over night, haven't  looked out to see  if any snow left.

Meeting up with friends first thing this morning, then home to do more baking.

Jane, not only does the cold go right through you but we also have lazy winds that do the same. They are winds that would rather go through you than around you!!!

Better get the day started..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The rain has spread this far!  It's supposed to rain most of the day.  Cooper and I just took a morning walk and when he accomplished his business, he headed for home!  It's coming down pretty good and it's looks like it's been at it for a while.  Weather report says it's going to be around most of the day.  Thank goodness it's not "white" rain!

I'll be off to the showers in a few minutes to get myself ready for church.  When I come home from there, I'll be getting boxes ready to send to Oklahoma and Texas.  When that job is finished, I can concentrate on the "locals".

I hope all's well with all of you and I wish you a happy and productive day.  Do what you like best....if you have time!

Good morning, it's warmer at minus nineteen, we never did get below minus twenty-five or worse, and we're expecting more of that "white rain" this evening.

Special Weather Statement issued December 10 at 2:15AM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK

A strong frontal boundary is expected to bring snowy conditions for most of the Interior Monday morning into Tuesday. The first shot of snow on Monday will bring snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches, mostly north and west of Fairbanks. Gusty northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph along with snow and blowing snow will reduce visibility over higher terrain north of Fairbanks and along the Elliott, Steese and Dalton highways. The second shot of snow brings a better chance of accumulating snow for Fairbanks on Tuesday. Snow chances could linger into Wednesday for much of the Interior. There is still some uncertainity on amounts and timing of the snow Tuesday into Wednesday. Also, temperatures will moderate above zero for much of the area for the first half of the week.

Joanne, most of my spam lately has been packages not being able to be delivered. I'm not getting my packages from all the expensive places I never shop at. Oh no....what to do.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe December 1 , 2023
Post by: JaneS on December 10, 2023, 08:27:55 PM
My spam has been bills that I need to pay...just an amount and "click here to connect with the company and pay this past due bill".  And all of them are more than I would have spent in one place.  I hit "delete"!!!

I have one of my packages ready to mail and I told Cathy I wouldn't be ready tomorrow.  She said she won't either because she's still waiting for an order to come.  So we're going to hit WM and finish my shopping and maybe mail my one package.  And we're going to swing by the bank and do some business and then I hope I can finish the packages!  I don't want the kids in OK to miss theirs.

Frankie goes back to work tomorrow so I'll have Cooper regularly from now on!  I'll be getting my footsteps in taking him out.  And if the weather isn't wet, he'll take longer walks.  We did two today but as soon as he was finished, he RAN for home.  He doesn't like rain-walking any more than I do!

I put some peanut butter cups, coconut cups, peanut clusters and chocolate pretzels in the snack box.  Help yourself!  I'm just about ready to hit the hay!  Today was a busy day and I'm tired and ready to sleep!  I have to get something out of the freezer that I can do in the crock pot tomorrow to have for upcoming meals.

PATRICIA, please keep the snow where you are, or outside of your town will be fine!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make it your own day in every way!

Good morning, we've jumped overnight from minus 23 to plus 16 at 9:13 AM. No snow so far, but the clouds have moved in, so it's coming.

Nothing new here, I called maintenance with my list of woes and he, the one answering, didn't sound worried. I mentioned the structural inspection on the 13th. And he only said they'd do a fast in and out, not sounding too concerned.

If any of you are knowledgeable about sounds traveling during warm and cold weather, I have a question. I know that the arc of the sun and moon change during the seasons, but I noticed sound does as well. An example is the trains traveling through. The whistles as they pass crossings are louder and sound closer in the winter, and the sound seems to reverberate longer. Does this make sense?

Here is what the usual weather alert tells us about the coming winds and warm up;

Special Weather Statement issued December 11 at 5:14AM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK

A strong frontal boundary is bringing snow and blowing snow over the northern Interior today. Gusty northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph will reduce visibility over higher terrain north of Fairbanks and along the Elliott, Steese and Dalton highways. The second shot of snow brings a better chance of accumulating snow for Fairbanks on Tuesday. Snow will develop around Fairbanks late Monday night and continue into Tuesday. 3 to 5 inches expected around the Fairbanks area, and 6 to 10 inches over the Eastern and Northern Interior and down the Parks Highway near Denali. Snow likely to linger into into Wednesday over the Interior. Also temperatures will moderate above zero for much of the area for the first half of the week.

Well, I didn't get my packages all wrapped and packed for sending but I pretty much finished my shopping!  Tomorrow, I have to force myself to get the packages ready for the road and hopefully, Cathy will take me and/or them to the UPS and they'll be on the road!  Then I can relax and get the rest of them going.

Another complication kicked up its ugly head today.  The eye Dr. has been trying to get a special service to accept insurance for a treatment.  Today, they approved it.  It's complicated, hard to manage alone, and keeps one in the house all day.  I think Cooper's walks can be squeezed in but not much else.  I don't know why they couldn't have approved it at the end of Oct. when he first tried for it!  This is not a good time and it's not a short treatment.  I don't want to give it up because I want to see the world through my own eyes and this is supposed to be a good treatment!  What to do?  What to do?  What a day!!!

I'll think about that tomorrow!  She has to call back!  And once my packages are on the road, maybe I'll
"see" things differently!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!

We are off and running (driving) this morning back to the dealer to get a repair on this new to us vehicle. Hope we have enough time left in the day to do last min shopping.

Jane, take care of what you have, as you only have two eyes. This may throw a wrench in what you are doing now but in the end well worth it .

No new snow and I hope it holds off till we get back home. Neighbour is looking (spoiling) after the furkids for us.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Patricia, I think Amy is on to something about your sound question. Basically the speed of sound depends on air density which is affected by temperature. I believe there are a few modifying variables like humidity and altitude.

Good Morning!  My morning got off and running very early today.  I fell asleep early and I woke up early so instead of goofing off, I got started on the packages to mail.  Three out of four are ready to go and the stuff is sitting in the fourth box but it has to be neatly checked and packed with paper, taped and labeled.  I think that might happen after Cooper takes me for a walk.

AMY, it crossed my mind that there isn't much of the world I'm going to be seeing in the rest of my life and then my granddaughter sent me pictures on my phone of my 3 great grandkids and I love how they change from picture to picture so I've decided that whatever it takes I'm going to do the eye thing!

Right now, Cooper is telling me he's ready to walk but I won't go until it's (kindof) light out there.  I need to see where were are and what I'm doing!

I hope you all have a pleasant (or productive) day!  Keep on keeping on!  I love it when I come back later and a whole bunch of people have stopped by for visit!

Hello Everyfriend!  I mailed all my packages today and then I came home and relaxed for about 5 minutes before I got busy again.  I have all the rest of the family and friends bags out on the bed in the spare room and they are all started but only one is filled and I'm not a hundred percent sure that I'll even see that one.  Her mother said she was coming up and my other daughter (her aunt who lives here) said today that she heard she's not coming because of car problems.  So I guess we'll see.  She's old enough to appreciate a Christmas present whenever she gets it!

Frankie had an appointment after work and it was in the opposite direction from here.  When she was finished, she decided that she was worn out and asked if Cooper could spend the night.  So I have a bedfellow tonight!

I'm waiting on the arrival of two presents that are being shipped and one of them probably won't be here until Christmas Eve Day.  I wonder if even Amazon will deliver on Christmas Eve Day.  It's a Sunday!  Maybe my son will get a printout in his bag, too!  And I ordered a gift certificate for his wife and that hasn't arrived.  They might be getting an empty bag full of notes!  And now I can't find the ITunes card I bought for their daughter.  I have one more place to look!  OOPS!  I just remembered!  The card a guy told me to get wasn't actually an ITunes card and the checkout girl told me they only have those back in Electronics.  I didn't have a chance to go back there that day so I guess I'll have to make another trip to WM!

I better get back and finish up what I can today so I can hit the haystack early.  It feels like I've been up and busy a L  O  N  G time today!  I'm ready to lay my head on the pillow...if there is one in the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep, a happy and productive tomorrow and all kinds of happiness!

Thanks for all the help re sound waves. I've noticed that besides coming closer to earth's curve that the sun and the moon's arc changes even further, moving more to the north. That's an arctic view I suppose, not seen or noticed further south.

Besides being off the Internet, maintenance notified me that the requested repairs would not be done due to snow removal. I didn't see that much snow on the north side, but then I never walked over to the library for a southern view.

In any case, tomorrow is the structural inspection and when I reminded maintenance, they said no problem, it's strictly an in and out. I can't even get that from maintenance!

Good morning..

Lightly snowing at the moment, nothing to deal with righ now but  dance music may start later on.

We have to go back to the dealer when the parts come in for the vehicle.  We stopped at Krown Rust to make a date to get it undercoated and he said how about now!! So while they undercoated the vehicle I got to play with his Belgian Malinois.  He has two with him and the one is just like our Jesse, he can't hold his licker either.

Received a card from folks we worked for only to find out he passed in 2022, that was a shock! Then a phone call to say our nephew had not one but two strokes! He is coming along but to do nothing for a month is really going to be taxing as he is a farmer.

MG ,bundle up for that walk home.

Jane, I am up but I think my attem sneaked back to bed........maybe I should go join it? :))

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, plus 4 and cloudy, still snowing with wind but no real accumulation, we've had 0.02, it's more sleet than snow. Supposedly two to five inches today,
however, all this promised snow must be out of town, in the hills, ridges or highways.

No sign of structural inspecting, maintenance personnel or anyone wandering the hallways at 9:42 a.m.

My day will be spent playing on the computer and downloading more tubes and graphics. It's nice to wake up and turn it on to type in a destination and go. Monday night and Tuesday was spent first trying all my known things to do and then calling only to find my internet provider was bogged down.

Their "cheery" automation asked for my number and sent me a text link to their computer support assistance tech, who was able to pinpoint and solve my issue.

Callie, I must have dreamed of you last night. I woke up thinking of you doing your tour, but couldn't remember whether it was historical or not. I have no idea why, unless my brain was housekeeping.

Here's hoping Joanne gets her car back, Jane and Cooper have a good walk, and Amy avoids having to do any dances.

For Rick and anyone else checking in, I hope a good day for you too!

Frankie just picked up Cooper and I'm taking a short break and I like to see friends on my breaks!

AMY, did you follow your "attem" back to bed or did you hold up?

PATRICIA, good for you, back to computer use!  I'm wondering if they ever did the inspection?

I signed up for the special stuff to my eyes.  It's going to take a lot of extra time and I sure hope it does some good!  Now I better get back to work.  I still have a couple things to accomplish before I fall apart for the day!  Keep on keeping on!  It's the best thing to do!

Good afternoon at 4:38 P.m. and it's been sleeting all day and I have no idea about any accumulation.

The inspectors, one woman and three men, arrived a little after three, and it was an in and out as I was told. I purposely left it as is and was surprised to hear the woman remark about how clean it was. Perhaps, I've been too stressed and overdoing all this time?

In any case, I believe that's it for the year, and I'm not aware, or we haven't been told about any coming summer "improvement" projects.

Now, other than the expected yuletide celebrations such as church and school children caroling in the hallways, it should be quiet except for the fireworks displays from eight p.m. to one a.m. on the 21st. , for the winter solstice and again, same, for New Year's.

Morning Jane and all to come later.

I walked up yesterday afternoon and paid the ransom on my car. It is peacefully waiting in my drive for me to drive it over to my sister's place. Today, she wants the laundry and vacuuming done and the trash cans down to the bottom of the drive for tomorrow's pick-up. The doc told her on Tuesday that she is okay to drive, but still has to wear the back brace for another two months. She is allowed, however, to remove the extra back plate in the brace, which she did. She went out last evening for the annual Christmas dinner get-together with friends. I forget which one picked her up. Instead of going to Tavern-on-the-Hill here in Enola this year, they gathered at Progress Grill across town in Harrisburg. I am certain that I will be getting the run-down on the menu and prices when I see her later. Both are very pricey places. I declined the invite to tag along because my budget is way over stretched us to the several unexpected big bills this fall.

This morning is a cold 25o, only going to 46o today even though it will be sunny again. However, the next four days are forecast to be in the low to mid-50's.

Good morning, I'm awake early, it's 4:23 a.m. because I literally crashed early last night I was so tired.

We're back to the minuses, at minus 15 with an expected low of minus 29. Friday is back into the low pluses with another chance of snow, and not any real snow accumulation; 0.01 for the day after all that drama. I understand it stayed in the mountain passes.

For Friday, the 29th, it's back to minus 26 and lows again. January and February are our coldest months if all goes as usual, with March being our snowiest. But we all know how usual, goes these days with climate change, everything is up for grabs.

I lead a boring life if weather is the extent of this week's conversational topics.

The quiet between the hubbub of Thanksgiving, and Christmas, is expected, which suits me fine.

London is supposed to be in the heart of the snow belt, but so far this winter we have had only a few snowflakes.  I suspect that mother nature is saving up a big one in the near future for us.

Well, another busy day has ended.  The haystack is calling and my eyes don;t want to stay open!  So I'm going to hit the hay early tonight and maybe get an early start tomorrow.  I'm almost finished with the wrapping but Frankie doesn't work tomorrow and she's coming over to give Cooper a bath and she has a bunch of gifts to wrap sitting on a chair in my dining room.

Nice to see some of you here that aren't usually around...especially Mr. Radioman!  I hope all's well with you!  Do you still have your Santa suit?

Patricia, I love hearing about Alaska and if it's the weather, that's fine with me!  Keep it up!

I better get off here and into the haystack or I'll sit here on this hard chair and sleep.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way!

Good morning..

Another busy day in the making, or should I say baking. Need a few more cookies and that should be it. Laundry to make disappear and chase dust kangaroos! Before I can start that we have to pick up meds and more icing sugar.

Yesterday I looked out and saw a young man walking away from our door. I quickly went out to find he left a parcel at our door! Thanking him, I gathered up the parcel and like a kid wondered what could be in there! Opened the mystery parcel to find sweet goodies and wrapped gifts that will wait till the 25th.  In case you're wondering the sweet goodies are delicious and the note accompaning them said I HAD to share with Kyle.

Patricia, sometimes boring is good! Curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee and enjoy the day.

Don, we are also lucky. Snow has graced the west ,east and south of us. They have had more snow than us and I am north of you. This week has been mild but next week starting Monday we are to see snow.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I just finished my breakfast and I'm waiting for it to be light enough to take a long (lonely without Cooper) walk to get my day started!

AMY, goodies are always nice to get.  A while back, I found a package on my doorstep.  It contained some of my favorite goodies that only seem to be available way North of me and way South of me!  Enjoy yours and if it said "share", You  better share!

Just finished the last of my breakfast coffee!

We're also lucky with "no snow"!  It's not coming and it's not predicted!  I hope it stays away until the Mexican part of my family is safely back home and that won't be until New Year's Day!

About another 15 minutes and it will be light enough to walk.  I go get chores set up for the rest of the day and then take off.  I wish you all a good day.  Make it your own in every way!  But sneak in here and share it with us, too!

Good morning to all and not a good day for me. Last night, my Mr. Coffee stopped working. I went to get a cup and it was cold! So, It's going to be a hot tea time until it warms up enough for me to go out.

Presently, it's minus thirty here, and I'm so glad I'm retired. For those wondering, schools don't shut down unless the ice fog (Frozen particles of car exhaust and other chemicals in the air.); is terrible. Some years ago, a child, walking along the roadside, was killed when the driver literally didn't see her before hitting her.

Saturday is forecast higher plus temperatures and Tuesday following and through the week will be back into the minuses, altho not past the teens. This is actually not as bad as when I was growing up, with two-week periods of minus thirties through once minus seventies. Temperatures had moderated in the eighties and nineties to have severe cold days lasting only 24 to 48 hours before warming.

On the other hand, the summers in the arctic with the 24/7 daylight and freedom from pests such as snakes, fleas, ticks, poison ivies and poison oak, and other indignities, come as a result of the cold winter temperatures. Rabies is rare here for the same reasons. Although, it is found in the Southeast.
Coyotes have been found as far north as Denali, a hundred miles from here, but evidently the wolves are taking exception to them, so progress has been slowed.

As for me, I have my computer, some tea and the curtains closed to help shield from the cold air.

Amy, I'm jealous!

Weather and more options available in the nineties plus her years in Europe had her, my younger sister, leaving Alaska for good in 1989, except for brief visits. Out of three pioneering after WWII related families, I'm the only surviving Alaskan resident.

My lower fourth-eight state living time other than two years in Texas, at Fort Sam, (where my daughter was born for a grand total of $8.75 cents). Including an earlier Mexican day trip;  was spent in the southern areas of Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, and a couple of day trips through southern New Jersey.

I also had family trips on both coasts, Washington State, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico, and Florida at Mayport Naval station.

With two husbands, not at the same time; I spent most of the Vietnam War, before and after, in family quarters on stateside Army, navy and air force bases.

Well, I've done all the Christmas prep that I can do for now!  And I'm beat right down to my sox.  Everything under my sox is numb so I'm not sure if my feet are tired or not!  I guess I'll find out when I take them off!

I might mix up some cookies tomorrow.  There's one kind I miss if we don't have them and I can hear my mother saying "Aren't we going to have any Sand Tarts, this Christmas?"

I'm still waiting for delivery of two packages from Amazon and today is the first day they said for one of them.  It's not here yet!  I wonder how late they deliver!

I think I'll loaf tonight! Make your evening a good one!

Good morning all!

Santa just rode by on one of our fire engines, sirens and horns ablazin'.

Earlier this morning, I got my latest grocery order. The delivery man was making friends with my cats. He asked Oscar if he wanted treats, so I gave him the treat container to hand out a few. Of course, Shan glided in at a fast walk, not wanting to miss any.

Also, I got an email from Amazon that Quaker Oats has a recall out on their granola bars and cereal products for possible Salmonella. I had to fill out an online form, and upload a copy of my invoice and a photo of the Chewy box. Lucky me, I only just opened that box last night. Here is the website in case you have bought any and haven't been notified. https://www.quakergranolarecall.com/

Since I missed breakfast, I settled on a cherry turnover until lunch time. Maybe I will go make a cup of hot chocolate now.

MG, have to admit cherry turnover sounds good to me!! Healthy to as you are also getting fruit in it! One does not mention treat here, one has to spell it out or else both dogs will be up and prancing towards the treat jar!

Lloyd, good to see you and hope you do find your way back in. Please take care..

Sun is out, laundry will soon be blowing in the wind.

Well, it's nice to see all of you who have posted.  It's sounds like you are doing whatever is necessary.  I checked that website, MarsGal and I don't usually buy any of that stuff.  I do use the old-fashioned oatmeal that has to be cooked but that isn't on the list.

LLOYD, you be very careful when you're out on the road!  Keep your eyes peeled and watch for people who don't know what they're doing!

AMY, your weather doesn't sound like December!  Around my doggies and around Cooper, I do a lot of spelling.  Sometimes I tell him when I finish a certain thing I'm doing we'll G O for a W A L K.  He just keep looking at me.  But if I actually said it, he'd be at the door!

Well, I sure am not making a lot of progress today.  I decided to mix up Sand Tarts to bake later today and I took the butter out to soften.  I decided to try to hasten it and I overdid it so now my stove and microwave are as clean as they've ever been, there's other butter sitting in the bowl waiting and my kitchen floor got washed up!  I think I might even have to change my clothes.  I didn't check that yet.  Oh yes!  The rug in front of the kitchen sink is taking a bath in the washer and it asked the bathroom one to join it!  Not the day I expected but stuff got done that needed done.  Now we'll wait for the butter to soften in it's own time!

I think I'll go in the living room, sit down beside Cooper and maybe see a few tears!  Or maybe not!

Have a good rest of the day!  And wish me one, too!

Good morning, nine eighteen and plus four in the Interior! A big change from yesterday's thirty below, but not as warm as promised. Tuesday we will return to the deep freeze.

I spent yesterday with the usual daily chores and downloading new PSP tubes and graphics for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's season. I posted some last night in S&F's cards along with Bubble. And that will probably be a repeat for today. That's along with having the leftover chicken stew for lunch and perhaps dinner too.

It's nice to see Lloyd again and to hear Jane and Amy are also up and at 'em as my dad would say.

I was reading the other day that animals have a common species language and not only have proper names for each other and other animals they come into contact with, but also slang which the younger animals easily pick up and spread. I felt like saying a big DUH! to those researchers. Do humans still think they are a higher species?

In any case, with animals, those in regular human contact, have a separate language they use to communicate with humans that ferals haven't learned. For an example, cats, one I'm familiar with, use certain sounds only with humans, such as the "meow" sound they learn from older cats' human interaction. Dogs' bark types ring in intensity and length, whereas feral cats use an ennh or ahnet type suffix in their shorter vocalizations.

With familiarity, cats and dogs pick up both physical and verbal clues from their people. So using the word "treats" needs an accompanying human expression, tone or action or commonality in spelling out the words. This is also a human similarity.

OK, the haystack is calling!  I'm heading for the barn and climbing into the hay as soon as I close here!

PATRICIA, lots of animal communication knowledge there but you can actually see what you say that a dog understands.  All my dogs and now Cooper, too, know that a "cookie" is a special treat and it doesn't have to look like a cookie.  If he's out in the yard and I open the door and call, "Come get a cookie" he comes running.  If I just say, Cooper, come! he totally ignores me!

Frankie called to tell me she was on the way to pick him up after work today and when we went out to meet her, I found a package addressed to me on the porch.  Somehow, Santa knows this is where I live.  It was stuffed with goodies, some of them homemade and I loved it!  It kind of remade my day afer I had a butter mess to clean up!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!  And let us know what made you happy!

Jane, animal owners and lovers have long understood these things, even perhaps the names and slang used among the various species. But to researchers everything is new because they, not the owners or lovers, discovered and published.

I didn't know about the youngsters and slang nor names for other species, but it makes sense.

I have not posted about my doctors appointment regarding why I was not able to have my surgery. The appointment went very well and my doctor assured me I was indeed told to take my Metformin and he would tell me to again as there is no problem with it before surgery.  He said he told my surgeon Metformin is safe and that I am definitely well controlled with my A1c being where it is. So once again I have been cleared for surgery.  Mind you it will be late January before they can schedule me again😩😩

This being said, I fell that night here at home and have hurt my "good" shoulder. I simply lost my balance and down I went. After a trip to urgent care, I know it is not dislocated but it appears to be a bone fragment that was seen. X-rays do not show tissue or muscle so they were not able to see if my already damaged rotator cuff is ok.  I made an appointment with my shoulder surgeon for Monday morning to follow up.

I am trying to type with my left hand so this has taken me forever to type this.

MY BEST TO YOU ALL‼️

Good Morning to Everyone who has shown up and who will show up!  This is going to be a busy day!  First Cooper will arrive, eat his breakfast and then want to take me for a walk.  These days, we have to wait for daylight and it takes longer than usual!

Jenny, it's always nice to "see" you pop in but I sure wish your news was better!  I'll be keeping you in my prayers and hoping that you can soon feel better!  Please be careful!

After all that is done, I'll be heading for the shower to get myself ready for church!  Cathy will be coming by to drop me off at the church!  And I won't be home from there until about noon.  Hopefully, the friend who will be bringing me home will make a quick stop at the bookstore in town to pick up a book they are holding for me.  I need it for a gift!

Then this afternoon, Cathy and I are going to a Christmas Concert!  We go to this one every year and I love it!  They sing all the old familiar Christmas music and one of the musicians is the former Principal at the school where I used to work as his secretary.  It's always nice to see him!

And if I have any energy left after all that,I'll be baking the Sand Tart Cookies before I collapse for the day!  I just finished my coffee so I better go get dressed to meet Cooper.  He'll be here in about a half hour!  I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way.  (You can see that's what I do!)

A welcomed day of rest here. Managed to get most of the work, baking done yesterday to today is an easy day.

Another mild day ,temp is 40° with rain later on but this following week we are back into freezing temps. Not as cold  as Patricias area but colder than what we have been experiencing.

Jane, sounds like another busy day for you.do you remember the saying "Don't cry over spilled milk"? Now you can "Don't cry over spilled butter"  That would not be nice to have to clean up!!  Jane forgot to add, nice to have a smart Santa that knows where we live.!

Patricia, I once stopped at a riding stable and the owner was in a dither, his horses didn't come home for lunch. I ask him to point me in the direction he thought they went and said I would go look, he then told me to call out "DINNER TIME". Do you know how foolish one feels going through thepasture and wooded area hollering "DINNER TIME". Well is worked, out of the think group of trees  anout 10 horses polked their heads and following me back. Me, I was shaking my head all the way back...owner was happy so that was the main thiing.

Jenny, going to put you in a bubble so you don't hurt yourself. As Jane said prayers your way and hope surgey is soon and you finally get some relief.

Rick, have you been experiencing warmer temps your way?

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, I'm just getting to the computer. I've done the usual daily chores, meet and greets, and watered my plants and did a quick room by room pickup. And here I am checking up on everyone here.

At 9:31, it's plus 17 and snowing. Between yesterday and today it's been more and more snow with the graders and dump trucks with their accompanying beeps have been busy the last two nights.

Also, we had two hours of fireworks coming from the river where the city holds its celebrations. I get so upset because the only upcoming holiday is the winter solstice, on the 21st., not the 16th.

The winter solstice is when we begin to regain all the light we've lost. The reason for my upset is they don't celebrate the occasion but the cash flow. Almost every minor holiday is celebrated not for the reason or on the actual date but made easier for shoppers and merchants.

Just stopping by to say....

Good Night Everyfriend!  It's been a busy and a GOOD day.  We said Goodbye to our priest this morning.  Christmas will be her last service with us.  She's retiring and she deserves every minute of her retirement.  She's a hard worker and a good priest.  I hope our next one will be as good!

We stopped on the way home to pick up a book that they were supposed to be holding for me at the local bookstore that is associated with Bucknell University.  No one that was there could find it and the nice lady that was trying to help me looked on line.  She said that she could have it at my house by Tuesday if I wanted her to order it.  I thought she meant to order it through the company that serves the store so I said, "Fine, go ahead and order it. And when I asked if there was a shipping fe she said there wasn't.  She had ordered it through her own association with Amazon.  Isn't that amazing?  I gave her a hug and my money.  I've heard nothing but good about this lady from everyone I know.  She does get things done!

When I got home, I had my lunch and then Cathy arrived and did some stuff on my computer and then we went to a Christmas Concert given by a local music group.  They do about 4 concerts a year for different occasions and they are terrific!  It was dark when we got home.  And I was tired so after I made some supper I decided that I was tired and I wasn't going to bake the cookies.  So I read the paper and did the crossword puzzle.  The cookies will get made tomorrow.

It was a busy day.  And JENNY is now on the prayer list at my church so maybe things will change as the prayers go out for her!

I did my eye warmer thing and when the timer went off to say I was finished, I didn't get up.  My eyes just refused to open so I got in a little nap.  Now I'll be up early tomorrow morning and get my day on the way!

PHEW!  The is one day that just kept going on!

We're supposed to have bad rain for the next two days and there are flood warnings out.  I'm not close enough to major water to have to worry about myself but it's a worry for lots of the people in this area!

PATRICIA, I don't like the sound of your weather and I don't like AMY's upcoming weather either.  Maybe we all relaxed too much!

OK, enough of that!  I'm off to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way.  I'll be sharing mine with Cooper again tomorrow!

Good morning.

Another mild day ,temp is 37° with the possibility  of snow tonight. We certainly had a  of rain yesterday, will help fill ponds and wells.

Not sure how today will play out. We went to go out yesterday and the garage door wouldn't open. The big spring broke and no way could we open that door. I left a message to the folks that installed it and have yet to hear back. Thankfully we didn't take the insurance off the other van and it is outside so can use it.

Better shake a leg and get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

My youngest granddaughter turned 17 today!  I almost forgot but her mother is going to stop by and pick up her card (with money in it).  And later I'll text her in person.

AMY, that's a bummer about the garage door but lucky you have the old vehicle to use!

I'm off to the cookie dough!  Have a good day Everyfriend!  Watch out for the bad weather.  We have RAIN big time!

Good morning, 8:11 presently, plus 8 and cloudy with more of that white stuff expected soon. Tomorrow we are to plunge back into the minuses with clear skies, and so it will go until March.

We did have a friend, Myrna, having a spell that ended up with her in the hospital. She wasn't on our meet and greets, and two people went to check on her. We're waiting to hear, but thanks to our meet and greets, she's getting care she needs.

Today will be another day of chores, computer and my Kindle.

Good Morning Everyfriend,  I'm having some computer problems and I can't see very well what I'm doing so you'll have to forgive any glaring errors.

I finished my cookies yesterday and after I got them packed up and ready for eating and everything cleaned up and put away, I collapsed!  I went in on the sofa to put the warmer pad on my eyes that I have to do 4 times a day and I woke up 2 plus hours later and went to bed.  It was a productive but tiring day.

Right now, I'm waiting for Cooper's arrival and having my breakfast.  Cathy will be over later and I'm expecting the arrival of different eye care.  It will be arriving packed in dry ice and needs to be refrigerated on arrival.  There's also a video to watch to learn it's use.  I'm a bit nervous about this but if it helps me see better, I'm all in favor of it!  Wish me wll.  I'm pretty sure I'll need help and good wishes will help!

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Take it and make it your own in every way!

Good morning...
Mixed up day in the making here. THe lads came yesterday and cobbled up a fix
on the garage door till they could come today with the proper springs to fix it.

We did get the snow that they were calling for, difficult to say how much as it is wind swept but will know better when light out and we go out.

Jane, prayers that all this eye care works  for you. Don't give up on it!! Amazing what modern medicine can do!

Patricia, good that the Meet and Greets found her or should I say Guardian  Angels.

Better go see if I dance or not.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from the Interior at a cloudy minus seven.

Lloyd, so nice to see you here again!

Myrna is safe and home again. She, had heart arrhythmia, which was new to her, was treated, tested and arrived back home four hours later, wiser and poorer. We may not be able to hang out as we used to and will do again in warmer summer weather, but our meets and greets keep us together and connected.

Today will be another one filled with small chores, computer time, and whatever comes to mind. I don't have plans to put anything by, as I'm trying to use up what I have. And what I have is a preponderance of rice, various dried beans, chicken, pork, one squash, three small russets, one small, one large yellow onion and a thawing chuck roast. Oh, and one bag of Turkey still in the freezer.

I also buy the large bag of Irish and Scottish long cooking oatmeal. I wish I'd tried them years ago. Likewise, I don't buy cold cereal, it's full of processed sugar, salt and chemicals, the same with powdered mixes. My doctor likes to say that convenience is killing people.

Sorry for preaching, but he's right.

Good morning.  My left hand pecking is getting a bit easier to do🤣🤣🤣

I thank you ALL again for your thoughts and prayers.  HEAVYDUTY bubble wrap is definitely something I sure could use😩😩😩  I am just feeling so disappointed in my self, as I have truly been as careful as I can possibly be to keep myself in a UPRIGHT position.  As you all know, no matter how careful we are in just one nano second we can find ourselves on the ground 😡😡😡. My orthopedic doctor has assured me that my spine issue is definitely a reason why I am having sever balance issues🤷

No word on my neck surgery as of yet.

Yesterday I did go to see the orthopedic surgeon that did my left shoulder surgeries.  He looked at the X-rays taken at the urgent care and agreed the minor looking bone chip seen is not anything to worry about right now.  I will be getting a MRI this coming Thursday and hopefully it will not show any other serious damage, i.e. rotator cuff issues either.  I feel it is improving a bit each day, and I am trying to move it as much as I can without too much pain.  I was told to take it easy but to get going on physical therapy right away.  I have made the decision that PT is not in my best interest until I her the results of the MRI.   I can assure you without a doubt that if someone were to try to rotate my arm they would need some very heavy duty earplugs as my screams would definitely be deafening ‼️‼️‼️‼️

I wish you all a good rest of your day and forgive me for not commenting on each of your posts.  I love reading all the news and I think of each of you as I am reading your posts🥰🥰

Good Night Everyfriend!

JENNY, so nice to see you posting but I wish your news was better!  You sure are going through a lot of pain and dr. visits theses days!  I hope they soon are able to help you!

I start my new eye treatment tomorrow and with all I have to do to my eyes, it' doesn't seem like I'll be getting much more done.  I still don't know what the new ones will do to my current sight while I'm doing them but I sure hope they improve my sight for time to come!  The boxes came today and I have enough for the next two weeks ready to go starting tomorrow morning.  I don't know how much I'll be on line so if you don't see me, I'm still around...just not posting...and maybe not reading!  We shall see!

Now I'm doing all the stuff I have to do before I can hit the hay!  And among other things, my phone decided it needs me to enter a password.   I've NEVER had a password to use that phone and it won't listen to me.  If the river was close by, I'd send it for a swim!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't let anyone take it away from you!

Have a good day Everyfriend  I'll be back if I can.  I have to do the drops 8 times a day...I think!  What fun!

Finished up the rest of the shopping in the city, nice to get back home. Just to make sure we didn't over speand  on th holiday the oil truck came along. :tickedoff:   Oh well.

Jane, beautiful greatgrands!! Lots of fun watching them grow up.

Patricia, good to hear that your friend is back home. I also agree with your Dr.....we eat way too many chemiclas in our food. One should just go back to basics..

Time to put my feet up for a bit..

I'm totally done in today!  I'm ready for the haystack even if it's not ready for me.  with all this stuff I have to do to my eyes, I don't have time to rest in between.  I have to get stuff done!  I seem to be moving all the time!  But I do think the new eye drops are helping.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed all the way up to my elbows and my toes crossed all the way up to my knees!  Maybe that's why I can't get around any faster!

AMY, good you got the garage doors fixed.  Not being able to get stuff in and out is not fun!

I better go do more drops!  I'm not only doing new ones I have to keep up the old ones too!  I feel like that's all I'm doing!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way!

Good morning..

We are back into crisper weather ,temp  is 12° at the moment .The past two days one didn't really need a coat on, just a sweatshirt and vest.

Finishing the last minute gift wrapping and make a bean salad, we have to deliver a gift but that may happen tomorrow.

Jane, I am just thankful that the garage door didn't break and come down on us when we would be driving through!! Take time to rest today.

Patricia, food today is not tasting as good as it once did. Turnips are blah..no flavour like they used to have. I miss the farm raised chickens, beef and pork. Now everything is full of chemicals and it is just not the same.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe December 1 , 2023

Amy, a few thoughts about the facts on chemically produced foods.

One, it shortens our lives, causes diseases and prevents vitamins and minerals absorption in our bodies. Diet foods, especially diet sodas, are increasingly being linked to heart attacks after excessive use.

Two, food allergies have increased worldwide from 3% averages in the sixties, to one in four in the nineties. In the US, food allergies prevalence has increased to 50%. Over the past two decades, food allergies have increased, notably among children. Research indicates that the prevalence of food allergies in children has increased by 1% to 2% per decade. Each year, around 200,000 individuals seek emergency care due to allergic reactions.

Three, children absorb chemicals from their mother's placenta before birth, and bodies being disinterred for various reasons after five years show fewer signs of decay due to chemical preservatives.

"Nine foods cause most food allergy reactions. They are milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, fish, and shellfish.

As of 2021, about 20 million people have food allergies in the U.S.1,2
        About 16 million (6.2%) U.S. adults have food allergies.1
        About 4 million (5.8%) U.S. children have food allergies.2
In 2021, 7.6% of non-Hispanic Black children had food allergies, compared to 5.5% of non-Hispanic white children.2
Food allergy has increased among U.S. children over the past 20 years, with the greatest increase in Black children.11
Milk is the most common allergen for children, followed by eggs and peanut.12
Shellfish is the most common allergen for adults, followed by peanuts and tree nut.12
Sesame is a rising food allergy. It impacts an estimated 1 million people in the United States.13 It was declared a major allergen in the United States in 2021."

Chemicals added to food to preserve shelf life are common practice with foods in developed countries, and more people, especially children, are reacting to these chemicals, some starting with formula.

Rick, yes our life span has increased but I am going to say it is more to modern medicine. My cousin passed  just a little after her 8 year birthday from leukemia, I strongly believe that if it had of been now and not back in the 70's she would still be here.

Remember your Mom's cooking and how good it tasted from scratch? I think todays young ones have lost a lot of the ability to do what your Mom or my Mom did in cooking.  FWIW

6.5% of adults have allergies?  That must mean 93.% do not.
5.8% of children?  That must mean 94.2% do not.
However, I have two grandchildren who are completely gluten-intolerant and one that was diagnosed as severely allergic to black pepper.  He can eat any other kind of pepper but not black; how many "avoid" sodium by using black pepper instead of salt?

How in the world did we manage to get to our ages when we drank unpasteurized milk, had eggs for supper several times a week and "lived" on peanut butter/jelly sandwiches?

Jenny, I'm so sorry about your "owies" and hope the surgery gets done and is succesful.

My hands are better but still can't do some motions - like twisting open a doorknob (fortunately, most of mine are handles) or opening a jar - even with my jar opener.

I sent a group text to everyone in my family asking for suggestions on stores and restaurants where they would like gift cards? Everyone answered and I ordered cards on-line.  They have all arrived and are packaged in small gift sacks.

The point is that none of those had tons of chemicals used in processing, stabilizing, and transporting.

Not everyone is going to get sick, the same as some people lived through pandemics, wars, and natural disasters. It's primarily coincidence and the law of averages.

Should we ignore those who did?

I have several of those "handy items" lying untouched in the kitchen drawer, as none of them worked for me.  May be I'm just weird.  My very best things are my garden gloves, with the "silicone" grips on the palms.  I use them for everything, and I have those little squares (I dont know what they're made of), but one in my right hand, and one in my left (for the underside of the jar or bottle), works like a charm. Gloves are also great for turning the door knobs! Wish you better luck with finding something that helps you, Callie!

Thanks, Rammel.  I have one similar to that.  My current difficulty is the motion of twisting my hand in that way for any reason. It's better and my family/neighbors are very helpful.

Patricia, I certainly do believe people who have reactions to food additives, etc. should have help.  A lot of things are now labeled they don't have this or that and restaurants, etc. are offering more choices.  I'd swear my NYC granddaughter and her gluten-intolerant friend know every gluten-free restaurant and bakery on the island of Manhattan! ;)

Onward and Upward!

Good chilly morning everyone. It is cloudy and still only 38o outside.

Got a Christmas present from the trash haulers today, two nice new shiny green trash containers with the flip-top lids. The only problem is that the recycle bin is so much smaller than the open top container I already have. Oh, and they are wheeled which will make it difficult to store on my porch, and to find a suitable place to park them where it won't be a pain pain carting them across my lumpy lawn. So, okay, two problems. The really nice thing is that they have lids. I only have one old container with a lid and it has a hole in the bottom. I rarely use it for the afore mentioned wheel vs. lawn difficulty. Mostly I put the trash out in trash bags a few hours before they arrive in the morning. No problems with critter raiding unless I park them on the porch overnight.

A nephew of mine is getting married very shortly. They have put it off way too long, especially since his future MIL has cancer. Apparently all the treatment options have been exhausted and she isn't expected to live too much longer. She wants so badly to see them married before she passes. If she is unable leave the hospital, they will have the ceremony in the hospital room.

Sue, her friend Dody, and I will be will be doing Christmas day dinner at Red Lobster this year. I don't think any of the big holiday buffets ever made a comeback after the COVID business.

Speaking of which, UPMC is now requiring masks in their facilities again. I haven't heard of any big outbreaks in this area, although I know there is an uptick nationwide. I guess they don't want to take any chances. After the new year I need to get bloodwork done prior to a visit to my cardiologist later in January. I didn't initiate the visit, so I guess he just wants to make sure the cholesterol medicine is working well. I have not seen him in two years.

Everyone, have a wonderful Christmas Holiday weekend.

Good late morning. We had a lengthy meet and greets, and talked of the new covid strain, the RSV outbreak in the city, difficulties in going anywhere, and more of the same.

Claire is miserable in North Pole, and is on multiple waiting lists locally. We sound, as a group, the same as I remember the old folks gossiping in my youth. The same as others who've known each other forty or more years.

I hear you, Callie, but when a simple lunch of Hormel's microwavable spaghetti sends you to the emergency room and a bill of over four thousand, you tend to notice. And now, as you said, onward.

Patricia, I also hear you. At the only colon scan I've ever had, two diverticula were discovered. "Prescription" was "figure out what bothers you and don't eat it".  I knew small kernels (rice, corn, nuts, etc.) were forbidden but I discovered that raw vegetables upset me. (A good friend said, "Oh, I don't know what I'd do without my salad twice a day." I told her that she might rethink that if she got terrible intestinal cramps!) I haven't had the type of salad served with almost every meal in 15 years. However, I enjoy a canned green bean salad, cold canned beets and occasionally micro some baby carrots just past the raw stage.

Miss Ellen is on her way home.  Flight from LaGuardia left on time and so was the layover flight from Atlanta.  Can't wait to see her.
Unfortunately, thunderstorms are predicted for late tomorrow and overnight.  Hope that doesn't spoil family plans for my birthday. I was told to be ready to go at 4:30 but not why - and I can't get anyone to give me a hint.  :buck2:

I've put a bag of frozen vegetables for stew and some leftover round steak in the slow cooker. Sure smells good!

Wishing a Great Day to Everyfriend.

Busy day ahead, kids are coming and we will have our big meal at noon. While here David is going to put the struts and wiper blades on the vehicle for us. Knowing they will have turkey for Christmas we are goingto have ham, scalloped potatoes, parsnips and carrots mashed together, baked beans and a salad.

Patrica's computer crashed and she won't be on line until January. Hope Claire is soon back with all her friends.

Jane, soon all these busy days will be overwith.....eye drop wise and baking etc wise.

MG, weather here has been crazy, now we are heading back into warmer temps. Today is either rain or snow! Masks are being worn here by some but I think it is wise to mask up.

Callie, bet that stew also tasted good! Comfort food.

Better get moving..

AMY, have a wonderful day with your family!  Tell David I said Merry Christmas and please include his wonderful lady in that!  And Merry Christmas to you and KYLE!  I think today is the day that I get to see my KYLE or maybe it's tomorrow.  I'm so mixed up with all this eye stuff that's going on that I just let CATHY remind me when it's time to do something like gathering for family stuff!

I'm off to get things put together.  I'm trying to stay (sort of) neat before daughter CHRISTY and her hubby arrive.  They will be staying at my house and my grandson from Mexico and his family will be staying at Cathy's but that won't be until the day after Christmas.

If I sound all mixed up, I am!  Enjoy whatever you all are doing!

At this time of year we have to be able to adjust when we plan a special dinner.  I remember the first Christmas after I was married, my sister and her husband came up the morning before Christmas and my Parents and my kid sister were supposed to arrive in on Christmas Eve.  Mom was going to help me cook and serve my first Family Christmas Dinner.  IT SNOWED...and SNOWED....and SNOWED on Christmas Eve Day.  When Mom called to say they would be up as soon as they could, I panicked!  I remember my words! "What am I going to do about dinner?"  An my Mom's answer was "Well, you're going to cook it and if we're not there, you are all going to eat it and think of us."  When I told Margie, she said, "I don't know how to bake a ham, do you?"  We both learned!  And my parents made it in time to eat with us.  We learned in a hurry!

At least, you're the great cook in this situation!  You know exactly what to do!  Merry Christmas to all of you!

And Merry Christmas to anyone else who peeks in!

Jane, not sure about tomorrow if the kids will be here, will just have to wait and see. Lots of better days to travel.

Good Morning Everyfriend, It's 39 degrees here and heading for a high of 45 in late afternoon!

RAMMEL, I was married in 1955 so it would have been that Christmas that we had the heavy snowfall!

I'm off to my daughter, Cathy's later today for brunch and Christmas with them, my grandson and his Bride-to-Be!  They are leaving in early morning to return to Philadelphia to have Christnas with her mother!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE TO ALL MY FRIENDS!

Good morning

Looks like there will be a dance this morning.snow has stopped but what is there has to be cleaned away.

Not sure what the kids are doing, will know later on this morning. I know they got the freezing rain but haven't heard if they also got the snow.Hope weather permits them to come  but rather have them safe and have our Christmas on another day.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and safe travelling for those on the highways.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The dance is done for now. Jesse bless his heart will go to the wood pile, grab a chunk and bring it in the house but there are times he will just drop it! One year I hit a chunk and broke a shear and they are not fun to replace. This time I heard the clunk and stopped before I got into it. No harm done.

Kids are on their way so I had better get busy and get the meal finished...lots of food  if you want to set in..

Phyllis, may you also have a wonderful Christmas../b]

Merry Christmas!!

Good morning...

Warmer weather is back with us, with a high of 39° today.

Kids came yesterday ,David put the new struts and windshield wipers on for us. He makes it look like childs play. We all didn't need any supper after the meal at noon..

Today is rest....coast the day away. Snow has gone down from yesterday and with the milder weather may disappear more.It is a white Christmas in this area.

Enjoy your day  and stay safe.

Merry Christmas to all of you.  It's quiet in the residence as you might expect with many residents going home to their families. Those of us left behind will be treated to a roast turkey supper with all the fixings.

We have enjoyed doing "almost" nothing. Friends dropped in to exchange gifts and spoil the dogs. This is the first Christmas without their dog and we always bought for him along with Callie the cat. Neighbour laughed when both dogs started squeaking their toys... he said pay back :)))

Phone calls, emails and really don't need anythnig to eat as we have been nibbled all afternoon!!

Don, Merry Christmas to you. I think you are having a green Christmas your way.

Enjoy your evening..

Good "Day after Christmas" Morning to Everyfriend!  My family is on the way from Maryland this morning and that includes my grandson, his fairly new wife and stepson!  I'm in the process of preparing for their arrival.  I've never met Daniel's wife and son...only talked on the phone!  I'm really looking forward to meeting them!

I don't know if I'll have much time this week to spend on the computer.  Don't worry if you don't see me.  Between special visitors, getting ready to go back with them, and still doing my eyes, it's a busy time!  I wish you all a whole bunch of good days to come!  Make these your own days in every way!

Good morning..

Possibility of rain around 10 this morning. Taking stock of what is needed to pick up in town then home to corral up the dust kangaroos.

After today only 5 days left before we say goodbye to 2023, even time has roller skates on. Looking back it has been a good year, have had some little bumps along the way but for the most part it was ok.

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning. Been raining here too. But looks like we missed some of the real heavy rain. Thankful it's not snow. Seems to be a lull now between the two holidays. All's quiet around here.

Good morning.

Another liquid sunshine day here...no snow but the winter is not over with yet!

We had a fun day with family yesterday and have one more on the 4th. After that it is running for Dr appointments for Kyle and my friend.

I think today I shall coast, lots of leftovers to enjoy.  Alaways something yelling to be done and it may or may not get done. I am itching to get back at making a log cabin quilt, finally got all the cutting done now to just put it together.

Rick ,we have been getting  gentle rains here, no snow now but lots of fog!

Jane, if you peek in,enjoy your time with family.

Patricia, it was great talking with you and yes Patricia, you do have a cute accent :)

Phyliss ,hope you and David had a nice Christmas.

Better get the day started...need to go feed Callie and give her tummy rubs.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Still wet here and absolutely nothing at all planned - except devouring some goodies I see in the kitchen.

Thank you, AMY.  Christmas was very quiet and really just another day but we got through it.  Do you put a small red piece at the center of your log cabin square to represent that the center of the cabin is the fireplace?  Some of the old quilters over in the Appalachians do. Log cabin quilts are one of my favorite patterns. I think they are one of the fun ones to do and don't make you want to tear your hair out with frustration.  lol

Good morning

Another mild day and likey more misty rain..

Work around home today, not sure if laundry will be dried on the solar dryer or not.

Made potato bacon soup and that will be lunch.

Neighbours are home but will be going to sons so I get to give Calie her supper and play for a bit. She is such a funny cat, I had a tiny bit of meat left in the container so went to wiggle in with it and she bunts your hand away! Neighbour said if you are sitting on the rocking chair ,Callie will wiggle in behind you and keeps pushing with her feet till she alone has the chair!!

Phyllis, yes red for the centre and some people will even use yellow . This one called for blue but I used red instead and will do it in the barn raising pattern...or not. Will see when all 80 blocks are done, using 1 1/2 inch logs that end up 1 inch .

Rick,  my goodness that is a chore to have!! We also have some goodies left and need to do that. The things we have to do.

Jane , is with her company,Patricia is without her computer. :( You both are misssed.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning..

Sunday, the last day of 2023, a year of tragedy all over the world. Wars, flood ,fires and not one we wish to see for a long time or never. This past year we have lost friends, neighbours and pets. Some will be still dealing with cancers but hopefully will beat it. I think it is time for the world to have peace and peace in our hearts.

Happy New Year to you and may 2024 be a healthy prosperous  year..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Happy New Year to all.  It's been a quiet week here in the residence and nothing is planned for new year's eve. It's been a dull, dreary week here in london with no sign of Winter.   It just doesn't seem like winter. I wish you all the very best for 2024

HAPPY NEW YEAR WISHES to ALL. I certainly hope to have MUCH better health this coming year and I hope you ALL do too.

Bob and both have some kind of a respiratory bug.  Seems most around here do.....but we hoped to not be one of them.

Very concerned about the possibility of me not being able to pass my pre-op surgery physical on the 4th the way I am currently feeling 🤧🤧 My surgery is scheduled for the 10th.  🤞🤞
Nothing I can do about it, darn it.

I have heard nothing from the doctor about my Shoulder MRI.  It is doing better and better everyday but still can not lift my arm up or out to do anything 😩😩😩

Holding very positive thoughts and saying prayers for you with your eyes, JANE and you CALLIE with your hands.

Have a good last few hours of this momentous last day of the year 123123‼️‼️
