Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

"You don't have to understand people's experiences to be kind. Kindness doesn't require logic, it requires grace."

Kindness is not a matter of intellectual comprehension; it's a matter of the heart.
We don't need to fully grasp the intricacies of another person's experiences to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement.

Kindness doesn't require logic, it requires grace—a willingness to extend compassion, understanding, and support, even when we don't fully understand the complexities of their situation.
It's about recognizing the shared humanity that binds us, the inherent worth and dignity that resides in every soul.
So, let us choose kindness, not because we understand, but because we care, because we believe in the power of compassion to heal, to uplift, and to make the world a little brighter, one act of grace at a time.

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?"

Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster the boss asked, "Is your Daddy home?"

"Yes", whispered the small voice.
"May I talk with him?" the man asked.

To the surprise of the boss, the small voice whispered, "No."

Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?"

"Yes," came the answer.

"May I talk with her?"

Again the small voice whispered, "No."

Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person who should be there watching over the child. "Is there any one there besides you?" the boss asked the child.

"Yes," whispered the child, "A policeman."

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked "May I speak with the policeman?"

"No, he's busy," whispered the child.

"Busy doing what?" asked the boss.

"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the whispered answer.

Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the ear piece on the phone the boss asked, "What is that noise?"

"A hello-copper," answered the whispering voice.

"What is going on there?" asked the boss, now alarmed. In an awed whispering voice the child answered, "The search team just landed the hello-copper."

Alarmed, concerned, and more than just a little frustrated, the boss asked, "Why are they there?"

Still whispering, the young voice replied along with a muffled giggle...
"They're looking for me."

Late start today. Lucky I didn't sleeep through the new month beginning. So far I have no idea what it's like outside, - except that it is still fairly dark.

Liked the new start up here.

The sun the SUN THE SUN -  tra la - haven't seen a bright sunrise in days that feels like weeks - the forecast suggests the sun will be with us for a few days and then back to rain and colder temps.

Bubble Loved the story of the youngster talking to the father's boss - that end was precious but oh how the parents must have been frantic...

Washer and dryer repaired - should have guessed - just shy of $600 that I was afraid that would be the cost and should have just gone ahead and purchased new - the simplest with no bells and whistles at Home Depot was $4 something I think $469 or maybe $489 but even if together they were $1,000 it would have only been $400 more and I'd have brand new appliances that in the future would be simpler to repair. Well it's done...!

Now if I can get the furnace mess straightened out - they did replace the thermostat and now when the heat comes on it finishes up with the AC coming on for a minute cooling the warm air - what happened to good craftsmanship in products - this is a Honeywell product - Is it also made outside the US by someone barely receiving subsistence pay?

Well at least the sun is out and that is something to smile about - hope y'all have a great day...

Sounds like a set up problem to me - very wasteful. Maybe heating and cooling differentials overlapping. Talk to the installer about it. Maybe they can make an adjustment (Which IMHO they should have checked when installing.).

Well, Good Morning Everyfriend!  I checked and it's still morning.  I've been running up and down the hall and getting stuff done and I think I might be ready for lunch and then an afternoon nap.  You don't think I might be getting OLD, do you?

It sounds like all of you are busy, too, doing whatever it is that you do!

I loved the new month opening. Thank you, BUBBLE!  You sure are good at that stuff and I always love the things you put into the openings!

Now I better get back to work or I'll never get my nap in.  I do have supper in a casserole ready to be baked when the time comes.  I sure hope I don't forget about it.  Enjoy the rest of your day and sneak back in here and tell us how you did that!   We're nosy!

Happy February Oneth!

I waited until Bubble had changed the page to a new month to explain why I haven't posted in quite a while.

I had no energy or appetite for quite a while.  Two weeks ago on Thursday, I was fixing dinner while son #2 was working on my new printer.  I suddenly felt weak, turned to grab my walker - and collapsed!  Fortunately, son was here.

He took me to the emergency room and they determined my sodium level was way too low. So they sent me to the hospital.
I spent the next two days having a saline drip into an I.V.  The staff was wonderful, and I was well taken care of.  Both sons spent time with me and son#1 spent the night - because son#2 was too tall to fit in the recliner chair provided ;)
On Saturday (2 weeks ago today), sodium level was back to normal (barely) and I was sent home. After seeing my regular physician, I went to son#1's home and spent three nights. (a big plus was that I was able to spend time with Great Grandson because they keep him during his mama's morning work hours)
Since then, I have been at home by myself and feeling pretty close to normal. "Normal" is changing.
I have reluctantly agreed to having a home care helper two afternoons a week. She starts next week and I'm not sure I have enough for her to do for the required 4 hours.  I have plenty of help with housekeeping and ordering groceries delivered - and neighbor is willing to take my trash bin out and bring it back in.  I still fix my meals - although I do use prepared foods a lot and have found two local places which delivers prepared meals that I can order from. I have to have blood tested regularly to see if sodium level stays within normal range. Ugh! My arm is constantly bruised! :tickedoff:

I don't fit with current trends because I need to eat more salt (almost everyone tries to avoid that) and doctors want me to gain about 5-6 pounds (when ads are constantly for weight loss!)

Not sure I have enough to post regularly but will read and check in once in a while.
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend  :smitten:

Thank you all, I am  delighted that you like the fresh page. I confess it is not easy to guess what will please, what will be of interest. I am glad when I succeed. Thank you for your appreciation.

Good mid-morning, nine fifty am with minus three, quite a difference from the overnight low of minus thirty-four. We're going back to more positive temperatures as the clouds return, holding in the heat.

Meet and greets went well, Farrah's fed and off napping. My morning routine was a bit rushed today, as I was watering my plants while doing meet and greets. Now, with coffee in hand, I'm off to see the internet.

Bubble, you always find the most interesting tidbits for each new month! Dorthy Parker, along with Winston Churchill are my favorites for go to quotes, neither suffered fools gladly.

Callie I answered you in Norm's about low in salt possibly from dehydration.

Jane, you and Amy are always so busy. I save up for sprints here and there and then back to simple household basics. I'm more of a tortoise in that regard. I do have an Amazon package due today, so will hopefully see that soon.

Amy

Well Patricia, you will be happy to know I didnt  do hardly a thing other than meals and sewing!

Callie , hope you are feeling better .

Enjoy your evening.

I had the day off from Cooper today and it was very quiet around here.  However, I did have a guest.  My daughter, Cindy's best friend from school and after, has been stopping by and dropping off things to eat and sticking around and chatting.  She also asks if I want to ride along to the store with here.  Next week she's planning a trip to a country store that is WAY out in the country and I'm going with her.  I went before and we had a fun trip!  I think she misses her parents and she's adopted me!  I'm delighted!

Supper was good tonight.  I got it ready earlier and just had to pop it in the oven.  It was fish filets in special sauce with potatoes cut up and added to the casserole and some corn in the corner.  I have enough for supper tomorrow and enough fish to freeze some for a later meal!

CALLIE, I'm sorry you've had such a rough time and aren't you luck that your son was there when you really needed him!  I'm glad to hear you are recovering and I hope the recovery continues!  You be very careful!

I didn't have Cooper today but I took two walks without him and it felt good!  I like him to lead the way but I think I did OK.  Two neighbors in cars stopped to ask where my doggie was!

I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way!  And don't forget to stop by and tell us how you did that!  We're still nosy!

Good midafternoon at three thirty-eight and plus two as we warm up with clouds and snow moving in. I just had breakfast at two pm and finished watering my plants and clearing out in order to refresh Farrah's kitty litter.

Yesterday, I made a large pot of bean soup with leftover ham from Christmas, and had two servings then and one today, with the remainder going into the freezer. I also had a snack 0f cheddar cheese one in the morning and next just now, so I'm probably good for the day.

My forty-nine years of working late afternoon and early evening or overnight have messed up my mealtimes. Even now, twelve years after retirement, I still don't even have any hunger pains until two or later in the afternoon. And yes, I habitually go to bed at ten pm and wake up at seven am.

My Amazon order arrived and while the box corner was damaged, the items inside were wrapped well and undamaged.

Good morning...

Calling for snow later this morning, I hope it is like a teenager and doesn't listen.   I really can't complain as so far the snow has all but one easy to move. Temp is -7°  so snow would be light/fine..I hope.

Jane, nice to get a day off but I am sure you missed your walking buddy.

Patricia, that soup sounds good a real stick to your ribs soup! That is one of our favourites.

Better see what needs ro be done and what I can leave and worry about tomorrow!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, happy groundhog day! "Punxsutawney Phil has declared that there will be an additional six weeks of winter instead of an early spring.

Every year on February 2, the groundhog emerges from his burrow to see whether or not he sees his own shadow as a way to predict the weather. This year was the 139th year in the history of the famous woodchuck doing so, also given the name Groundhog Day.

This year, he had seen his shadow resulting in the prediction of a longer winter." 😕

A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND ☃️

AMY, I can not agree more with you than to say PLEASE, for warmer weather to come our way‼️

THANK YOU BUBBLE, for our fresh start and the fun things you shared....especially the little girl story.  I have already shared it and everyone loves it‼️

CALLIE, sorry to read about your incident and the hospital stay.  Hope you continue to feel much better.

Belated Happy Birthday Wishes, BARB.  I am sad for you having to deal with repairs of washer/dryer but that darn thermostat.  Seems par for the course these days though.....no one seems to really know how to even program their own product 😩😩

This has been a stressful week personally and nationally with the horrific airplane incidents🙏

PATRICIA.......yummm bean soup....one of my very favorites😘

JANE, I enjoyed details regarding your stay with family and how you are getting settled back in at home.  What a delightful lady to bring you prepared meals and to stay and visit with you ❣️

I will be having my first cataract surgery this coming Thursday.  Everyone says it is nothing to stew over....how great I will see etc.etc.‼️ I am counting on this 😘

Enjoy your day.

Jenny, it's very simple, (soak, overnight); your dried pinto, navy and black beans, and dried yellow and green peas. I sautéd in butter, two small yellow onions, bacon bits and one garlic clove. Sprayed my Dutch oven with avocado oil, and added in beans, peas, and onion, and garlic, grind to your taste, black pepper, Kosher salt, and other to your taste seasonings.

Fill with water just to cover and cook on low for three hours before bringing it up to medium for the last two hours. I like to add a bit of large flake nutritional yeast for the last two hours. I use the Bob's Red Mill brand.

Of course this is all subjective, and it's one I've cobbled together and have added bits of this and that over time. But, it is a great soup, and you can add the meat of your choice or not.  I used the last of my Christmas ham, cut into chunks, but you do you. I generally add the meat I have available.

I rarely follow a recipe as written and generally change to what I have in hand.

I learned to ask this after an experience with rice many years ago.

Well, I did it again!  I fell asleep on the sofa and now I have to wake up and get myself ready for bed and I have to be up before the crack of dawn to meet Cooper and get his breakfast ready!  He'll be arriving a bit before 6 tomorrow morning!  So this is going to be a shortie!

It was a good day today!  Cathy is back from her stay in Texas and she sure does miss her new grandson.  But she's loaded with pictures and that helps me.  The only thing wrong with looking at all the pictures is that I want to grab him and hug him!  Lots of the family are coming to PA in April to help me celebrate 90 years on this earth but I don't think they're going to make it.  It's really hard to travel so far with a baby!  I'm planning to return to OKLA. with daughter Cindy and I'm thinking I might work in a trip to Houston from there.  I'm still thinking on that one!  In every picture I see, granddaughter, Natalie looks so happy!  I think this might be one of the most important things in her life so far!  This and her wedding sure are on the top!

I better head for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day yours!  And tell us how you did that!  We're still nosy!
