Rick, I rarely follow directions, I'm more of an eye it type, but I'll look to see if I can find a similar bag size. 20 ounces or one pound four ounces.

Amy might have a better idea of ingredient sizing.

The bottom portion is a link to a bean conversion calcutator;

https://earthtoveg.com/calc/beans/

Or:
1 can of beans, drained = 1½ cups cooked beans = 1/2 cup of dried beans
1 lb of dried beans = 2.5 to 3 lbs of cooked beans
1 lb of dried beans = 6 cups of cooked beans
1 15oz can of beans weighs roughly 10oz once drained of excess liquid

Most of my bagged beans are either 20 or like the dried peas 32 ounces. You might use a quarter of a 32 ounce size and soak either eight hours or overnight. Either way, you will probably have leftovers for your freezer.

patricia19

RAMMEL

So roughly a quarter of a bag of each type?

When I was in high school my dad left me a note to start dinner. Which in part had rice. I thought a cup of rice would cook up enough for three of us. That's only a third of a cup each  :2funny:

Go by the included size charts for rice and beans.

One cup rice requires two cups of water. Some examples for uncooked to cooked rice equivalences:

1 cup dry rice equals 2 cups of cooked rice.
2 cups of uncooked rice equal 4 cups of cooked rice.
3 cups of uncooked equal 6 cups of cooked rice.
4 cups equal 8 cups when cooked.
100 g of dry rice is 200 g of cooked rice.
250 g of dry rice equals 500 g of cooked rice.

Good afternoon, everyone!  I am new to this site and have been posting in the Norm's Bait and Tackle and happened to see Callie mention this place. I have been with Senior Learn book club for oh so many years, and now we are down to only a few who post every now and then.  PatH. suggested looking in on Norm's Bait and Tackle and I am so happy to see active posts daily.

Who can believe it is February already!  I'm so excited just thinking Spring is only 44 days to go!  :cheer:

Callie, I am so glad you had your son there when you passed out.  My hubby learned about 10 years ago he has low sodium which causes fainting.  They told him to drink Gatorade especially when he is out in the sun doing lawn work because sweating causes him to lose sodium. He has done well since learning this.  I told the doctor he is a big fast-food eater and the doctor said, "Leave him alone, he needs the sodium."  lol

Jane, I wish I had a dollar for every time I fall asleep on the couch and wake up to realize I need to go up to bed.  I just get so warm and cozy it's easy to drift off.  Now since I am new here, I have to ask about Cooper, I am understanding he is your dog and isn't with you all the time, is that correct?  (Being nosey.  lol)  :dogrunning:

Barb, Ughh... appliances and furnace problems can be so draining on the mind and pocketbook.  How sweet of your son to bring you a cake.  I hope Sally is feeling better very soon.  It seems everyone I talk to has had something. Not hearing Covid much, but viruses such as influenza A, and norovirus.  I am finally over mine which lasted a full 6 days and now I just need to get my strength back.

Today is bill paying day so I best get to doing it. I do love how I am able to do it online now so that takes the worry out of if the post office delivered them on time.  My hubby is a retired Postal Carrier and he is just shocked how the service is nothing like when he was there.  Que Sera, Sera
Ciao for now~

good late morning, it's eight degrees with dense fog out there and the snow plows were out all night, which made for a very erratic sleep. The seventh through the twelfth will be sunny, which means chilly again, but not too into the minuses.  I was going to do some business today but with the fog, will leave it until tomorrow.

Meet and greets ran overlong, more grousing about the weather, Farrah's fed and presently munching on some extra, and I'm on the couch debating what if any plans for today.

I hope everyone's having a good day, or at least better than mine, but it sounds as if everyone is still suffering through winter and looking ahead to spring.

BarbStAubrey

Goodness had a time trying to get into Seniors and Friends today - made two attempts and still had to wait after I finally got in to access a discussion

Well sun came out - was warmer all weekend - cold last night but it appears with the sun it will warm up again this afternoon - still problems with Thermostat - called Honeywell but did not have all the information they need so it appears I've need to track down this problem when Paul is free late this afternoon. I'm sure learning a lot about furnaces and duct work and air flow and thermostats.

Jane where bout's in Houston does your granddaughter live? North, South, East, West, a  community close by like Spring or Sugar Land or Deer Park?

Patricia that sounds like a good thick pot of soup - Mom did a lot of split pea soups using a ham bone - I tend to go with chicken and veggies more than anything - maybe I'll add rice or pasta.

Can't be polite but I just hate these PBS sitcom series that take place in the 50s and early 60s showing women's plight - brrrr and grrrr - lived through it as all of you have and hate those memories. Another one started last night - again a young women in theater with the usual humiliations with guys only seeing her as a creature of sex. Seeing this I'm in awe how Mary Tylor Moore pulled off her show although, it started in '70 and so by then the worst was over. We still could not open our own Bank account for another couple of years. I remember how my son could have a bank account and I couldn't grrr. Worst was in the early 70s washing machine broke and husband said go buy a new one - it is not worth fixing - and they would not sell it to me without a husband, uncle, father, or older brother - even calling for verification was not good enough saying it could be anyone - It was considered a big ticket item - I was furious and humiliated and of course that weekend went to another store to buy one and yes, with husband.

Well being so antsy watching and getting my ire up I ended up leaving my comfy spot and going to the kindle on my computer and cleared out some books I know I will never read - they seem to have been mostly freebee books that are available each month to Prime members and mostly a book in a mystery series or about something I really have no interest in. Got rid of 30 books that I know I will never read. What I really need to purge are my many needlework and knitting books - first need to look and see if they have any real value and if so attempt to sell them on Amazon - the rest either give them away or maybe box them up and see if I can sell them at a second hand books store that buys books. I'll only get about 25 cents each but hay that can add up.

Haha looks like I have spring clear/ning stirring - soon be time to see a few crocus peaking out at the world...

Ciaobella, - Seniors And Friends was set up sort of like a community. So there's many different discussions - all open for use. Finance, medical, humor, Soda Shop, which you've obviously found, --- etc. Post anywhere that interests you.
We also have dwindled in recent years, and are happy when someone new drops in.

I'm sure Jane will be along to fill you in on Cooper

Well I'm ready to hit the haystack but I'm going to be good and answer some questions first.  I got a lot done today and I've worn myself out.  But breakfast is ready for tomorrow.  I have a collection of "Jim's Egg Thingys" ready to eat and I'm looking forward to breakfast in the morning.  I also made some potatoes to go with the rest of the fish filets and I have two dinners frozen and one ready to eat tomorrow.

CLAOBELLA, Cooper is my granddaughter's doggie.  She took a job at the hospital about 3 months after I lost the second of my two Scottish Terriers and I was still trying to make up my mind if I was too old to get another one when I heard her tell someone that she didn't know what she'd do about Cooper because she couldn't go home for lunch.  She only gets a half hour.  I quickly volunteered to have her drop him off on her way to work and then pick him up on her way home.  So 5 days a week I have a doggie!  It's been working out great!  She's in her third year working at the hospital!

BARB STAUBREY, I have an address for my granddaughter but I'm not sure where it is.  Her address is Houston.  They just bought a house and moved there about 2 months before she gave birth to my 5th great grandchild....a boy named Isaac.  My SIL is a minister at a church in Houston and I'm sorry, the name of the church escapes me but when it's his turn to give the sermon, I can watch him and listen.  Natalie in a hospital.

Now I have to close my eyes.  If I don't, they'll just slam shut and I won't be able to find my way to bed.  Good night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed!

Oh my missed your post Ciaobella - did not scroll back far enough - I've about all my bills paid automatically - would not have done that years ago but now it is easy and the cost is what it is - so far it is working...

As to furnace costs - sheesh - being totally dependent on them is not going down easily - for years I felt I could trust but for the last few years I'm seeing making as much money as possible seems to be how services function grrr... of course it does not help that I don't know this house like the back of my hand as I did my Austin house that we had contracted to build and I knew every addition and fix over the years.

Jane my sister, a couple of years ago ran into not being allowed to adopt a dog from the humane society because of her age - most dog owners that I know usually have instructions and someone available to take care of the dog if something happens - I guess many do not think that far in advance but having a dog is such a comfort to those who live alone - I'm glad you have Cooper.

As to my question about where in Houston it is because - Houston is huge - larger than the states of Rhode Island, or Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, or Vermont and a bit smaller than Massachusetts. Houston is also bigger than the major cities of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix and San Diego. At spots crossing Houston, I-10, a major artery has 12 lanes. I'm just north of Houston in Magnolia but not by much since we are dealing with growth that like a creeping giant is gobbling us up.

OH how I know the closing of eyes - last night dozed off right here sitting in my chair at the computer - when I came to I closed off the lights and fell into my bed clothes and all... - one more email and then I'm off as well... goodnight...sleep well...

Good morning..

Seems I cannot ignore the snow this morning. Everything is ready to go except me.When the snow is done and Mr SB gassed up again I am going to go sew.

Yesterday I made our supper early so that when we came home from the Dr it was an easy fix.....chicken,pasta, onion, celery, garlic, cauliflower, mushroom soup, sour cream and cheese sauce with a Ritz cracker topping. We have leftovers for tonight!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jane, how nice of you to doggie sit 5 days a week for Cooper.  You must look forward to having him, yet not the full responsibility of having a dog of your own.  We have a 3 yr. old Australian Silky Terrier named Brinkley. (Named after the dog in one of my favorite movies You've Got Mail) After losing our 16 yr. old Shitsu I was not sure if I wanted to have another dog, but my hubby would not hear of it. He searched the internet daily looking and by chance my granddaughter's college friend's mother was looking to sell the two puppies of a litter and gave us a great price for Brinkley.  He is a barker but has become my shadow.  I am glad my hubby insisted on getting another puppy.

Rammel, thank you for the info. I loved Senior Learn when we read books and discussed them together, but it seems that is a thing of the past.  I do enjoy this format where you can drop in and share whatever topic you care to.

Amy, your dinner sounds yummy, and don't you love it when you have enough for the next day's dinner.  We do that a lot.  I have to watch my sodium intake 2100 mg a day, so eating out has diminished greatly for me in 2025.  I am happy to eat leftovers and tell hubby to go get himself fast food which he loves, if we don't feel like cooking.

Barb, I hope you get that furnace working correctly. Gosh does anyone "Spring clean" anymore besides us baby boomers?  I'm actually getting the urge to begin one room at a time.

I'm counting down til Spring!!  :cheer:

Well my daughter is making a quick visit from NC arriving on Thursday and leaving next Tuesday - she realized she had a short space of time between her commitments and found airline tickets at a low price and so voila...

Spring is not as far away for us however, like y'all I'm ready... We could get another cold front in February - some of the worst in recent years have taken place mid-February but so far nothing suggesting that is on the horizon - but for sure by first week in March if not sooner trees will be blooming and grass will be green

Well tons to do so I'm off - hope y'alls Day is the best...

Good morning, Amy, Jane and Rick; eight forty-four am, ten degrees and cloudy presently. I spent sometime yesterday paying bills and getting groceries, and today I have an Amazon package due and a scheduled morning haircut so another busy day.

I might be able to drop in later to see if anyone else has or had anything to say.

JaneS

Good Evening Everyfriend!  Cathy got rid of the blockage on my screen and I think I might be back in business.  It's been a busy day!  I got a lot done around here and Cooper and I had 3 walks before Frankie got here to pick him up.  She had a dr. appt. right after work so she was a bit later than I thought she was going to be.  We sneaked in a third quick walk and he had his supper here before she picked him up.

We're supposed to have BAD weather tomorrow....icy roads and lots of it!  Frankie is supposed to work but if the roads are really bad, she might be a bit late!

I started to get stuff out to make a casserole tomorrow and it turned into a dinner in the crock pot.  It's starting out with a venison roast and tomato sauce and green beans and carrots.  Some other stuff might be added.  We shall see.

Now I'm going to finish up the house stuff and hit the hay.  Even if Frankie is late, I'll be up at my usual 5 a.m.  I just can't seem to sleep in even if Cooper isn't coming and I don't have any other appointments.  Some things just don't seem to wear off!  I wish you all a good night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Whatever you do with your day, come by and tell us about it.  We're very interested....or is that word "nosy"?

Good morning.

So far no new snow. According to the news last night we are to get snow and freezing rain...no thank you.

Work around home and I have to also make mustard but that won't take long.

Jane, talked with David , he was in PA and transports  were ordered off the roads because of freezing rain. Hope you didn't get freezing rain or your walk could be in the back yard with Cooper.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

AMY, we DID get the freezing rain and I'm afraid our walk will be in the yard.  Cooper doesn't like that as much as going down the road but so far, I haven't heard any road-work trucks out there.  When I finish here, we're going to go out and check it out!

Yesterday, I ordered some refills of my eye drops at the local drug store and she informed that it would not be delivered until Friday because they would probably not be open today!

I'm off to check the road!  Cooper has asked me twice now so I think he has to go!  Have a good day Everyfriend!
